The Floraroma Contest
The next morning, everyone wakes up and go to the Pokemon Center's cafeteria to have breakfast.
"Today's the day." said Stella.
"The day I get my first ribbon!" said Dawn.
"Only if you can make it past me." said Stella.
"Then that's what I'll do." said Dawn.
"That's the spirit, you two." said Lincoln.
"Just do your best and try to have fun." said Sam.
"We will." Dawn and Stella say in unison.
After the group finishes eating, they all head over to the Contest Hall; once there, they see Kenny standing in front of the main doors.
"Hey, Kenny!" said Luna, getting Kenny's attention.
"Hi, everybody." Kenny replies.
"How are you doing?" asked Clyde.
"I'm doing good." said Kenny. "I'll be doing even better when I win the contest today."
"I'll be the one winning it today!" said Dawn.
"Sure you will." said Kenny in a sarcastic voice, making Dawn frown.
"We should get ready." said Stella. Dawn nods in response and everyone enters the contest hall. While Lincoln, Luna, Sam, and Clyde head for the spectator bleachers; Dawn and Stella head for the girls' changing room to get into their contest attire.
Later in the waiting room, Dawn and Stella were waiting for the Performance Stage of the contest.
"I can't wait to go on." said Stella.
"Me, too." said Dawn.
"I wish the two of you good luck." Kenny's voice says from behind them, making the two look to see him wearing a matador outfit. "And trust me, you'll need it."
"Oh, really?" asked Dawn.
"Talk is cheap." said Stella.
"We'll see." said Kenny as the girls glare at him, making Kenny nervous.
On the stage, Marian was talking into the microphone to the audience.
"Hello, everybody; and welcome to the Floaroma Town Pokemon Contest." said Marian. "Today, coordinators will be competing in order to win the Floaroma Ribbon. And here we have our panel of judges."
"I am eagerly waiting to see what today's coordinators show us today." said Raoul Contesta.
"Today should be very remarkable." said Mr. Sumiko.
"I hope everyone has a fun time today." said Nurse Joy.
"And let's get started with the Performance Stage!" said Marian.
The contest begins as coordinators start showing impressive displays of their Pokemon's skills to the judges.
"Next up, we have Kenny from Twinleaf Town." said Marian. Kenny walks out onto the stage and tosses a pokeball, releasing a tan colored Pokemon that looked like a large Abra with long whiskers, and holding two spoons, followed by red confetti.
"What's that?" asked Sam as she uses her pokedex on Kenny's Pokemon.
"Alakazam, the Psi Pokemon, and the final form of Abra. Its highly developed brain is on par with a supercomputer. It can use all forms of psychic abilities." said Sam's pokedex.
"Lisa would like that Pokemon." said Lincoln.
"Well she has that Abra with her." said Luna. "But how is she going to evolve it?"
"We'll figure something out." said Lincoln.
Back on the stage, Kenny has his Alakazam use Light Screen to box itself in, then uses a dark ball of energy to destroy its self-made prison, shocking everyone, but Alakazam teleports out of harm's way at the last second; it then uses a move to levitate itself, making a fireworks display. Everyone cheers for Kenny's performance.
"Such a spectacular performance." said Raoul Contesta.
"Remarkable." said Mr Sumiko.
"The Alakazam's timing with its Teleport move really shows the skill of both itself and the trainer." said Nurse Joy.
"And up next, we have Dawn!" said Marian. Dawn walks out onto the stage and lets out her Sylveon who emerges in a shower of hearts; everyone was in awe of the Pokemon's beauty.
"Okay, Sylveon; use Swift!" said Dawn. Sylveon releases a bunch of stars into the air. "Now hop on them to get as high as you can while using Fairy Wind!" Sylveon does so, and as she uses the attack Dawn wants it to, the Swift stars get pulled behind her, turning pink in the process. "Now big finish!" Sylveon uses another Swift attack on the first one, making them break apart into smaller pink and white stars that shower down as she lightly lands on the stage.
"Such an amazing combination of moves." said Raoul Contesta.
"Remarkable." said Mr Sumiko.
"The natural beauty of the Pokemon really adds to the appeal of the combination of moves." said Nurse Joy.
Back in Royal Woods at the Loud house, everyone was cheering for Dawn's performance.
"That was amazing!" said Rita.
"Sylveon is so cute!" said Leni.
"Lincoln better get me one!" said Lola.
"He said he will, sweetie." said Lynn Sr.
A few more coordinators come out on stage before it was Stella's turn. She tosses her pokeball, letting out her Roselia in a shower of flower petals.
"Roselia, use Leech Seed!" said Stella. Roselia releases a bunch of seeds into the floor which sprout vines that shoot straight up; Roselia hops on top of them and uses her will to make them twist into the shape of a sprout. "Now use Stun Spore!" Roselia releases a spray of pollen that coats the vines, making them yellow and sparkly. She then has the vines wrap around her body, then she wills them to turn into a blooming rose with her on top of it.
"What a beautiful performance." said Raoul Contesta.
"Remarkable." said Mr. Sumiko.
"The performance truly shows the skill of Roselia and the creativity of her trainer." said Nurse Joy.
"That was awesome!" said Lincoln.
"It sure was!" said Clyde.
Once the rest of the coordinators did their performances, the judges make their decisions for who goes on to the Battle Stage.
In the lobby, the group meets up and watches the screen in anticipation to see who goes on to the next round; a minute later, the chosen coordinators were displayed, and everyone sees that Dawn, Stella, Kenny, and a random trainer have all advanced.
"Yes!" said Dawn.
"We did it!" said Stella as she hugs Lincoln.
"Congratulations, you two!" said Luna.
"You two were awesome!" said Clyde.
"I'll admit they were okay." Kenny's voice says from behind them, making them look to see him standing.
"We were more than okay!" said Dawn.
"Yeah!" said Stella.
"We'll just show you how good we are in the Battle Stage!" said Dawn.
"I'll see you then, and bring your A-games." said Kenny.
"We planned on doing that!" said Stella.
"We'll make your A-game look like an F minus-game!" said Dawn.
"I'd like to see that." said Kenny.
"You'll see it all right!" said Dawn. Kenny smirks before walking away.
"Can you believe that guy?" asked Stella.
"Don't let him get to you, Stella." said Lincoln.
"Actions speak louder than words." said Sam.
"Especially at me and Lincoln's house." said Luna.
"We'll show Kenny what being a coordinator's all about!" said Dawn.
Moments later, Dawn and a girl named Beatrice were on the Battle Stage. Stella, and Kenny were watching on a monitor while Lincoln, Sam, Luna, and Clyde were watching in the audience.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, we are here at the Battle Performance stage of the Floraroma Pokemon Contest." said Marian. "For this round, it will be Dawn from Sandgem Town and Beatrice from right here in Floraroma Town." Dawn and Beatrice each pull out a pokeball.
"Combee, go!" said Beatrice, throwing a pokeball, releasing a Pokemon that looked like three yellow hexagons with faces in each one and a pair of insect wings, followed by flower petals. Sam takes out her pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Combee, the Tiny Bee Pokemon. They collect and deliver honey to their colony. At night, they cluster to form a beehive and sleep." said Sam's pokedex. Back at Royal Woods, the Louds, and the Zhaus were watching.
"Oh, that Pokemon looks so cute." said Lola with glee.
"Hey! We're cheering for Dawn!" said Lana. Back at Floraroma Town Contest Hall.
"Pachirisu, spotlight!" said Dawn, throwing Pachirisu's pokeball and releasing her, followed by hearts.
"O-M-Gosh! That Pokemon is totes adorbs!" said Leni.
"It literally is." said Lori. Back at the Contest Hall.
"Pachirisu, Quick Attack!" said Dawn. Pachirisu charges at Combee with incredible speed and rams it, knocking it back; Beatrice's points dropped.
"Combee, Bug Bite!" said Beatrice. Combee flies at Pachirisu and bites her, damaging her, causing Dawn's points to also drop.
"Okay, Pachirisu, use Spark!" said Dawn. Pachirisu becomes surrounded by electricity; she charges at Combee and rams it, dealing super effective damage; Combee begins to twitch.
"I think Pachirisu's paralyzed." said Lincoln. Beatrice loses more points.
"Combee, use Struggle Bug!" said Beatrice. Unfortunately, paralysis stops Combee from attacking, resulting in Beatrice losing points for a failed attack.
"Pachirisu, use Quick Attack once more!" said Dawn. Pachirisu charges at Combee and rams it, knocking it to the ground with swirly eyes.
"Combee is unable to battle. Pachirisu wins. Dawn will advance to the final round." said an official.
"You did it, Pachirisu." said Dawn. Pachirisu runs around, excitedly.
"Way to go, Dawn!" said Lincoln.
"You were incredible." said Sam. Beatrice returns Combee to its pokeball.
"Guess there's always the next contest." said Beatrice.
"For the next round, we have Stella from Sandgem Town going against Kenny from Twinleaf Town." said Marian. Stella and Kenny both walk onto the stage.
"Now you're about to see what a real coordinator can do." said Kenny.
"I already saw Dawn in action, thank you very much." replied Stella, making Kenny smirk.
"It appears both coordinators are ready! Let the battle begin!" said Marian.
"Roselia, go!" said Stella, throwing Roselia's pokeball and releasing her, followed by flower petals.
"Alakazam, go!" said Kenny, throwing Alakazam's pokeball and releasing it, followed by red confetti.
"Okay, Roselia, use Magical Leaf!" said Stella. Roselia spreads her arms and releases glowing green leaves from her body; they hit Alakazam, damaging him, and decreasing Kenny points.
"Okay, Alakazam, use Psybeam!" said Kenny. Alakazam crosses its spoons together and releases a multicolored beam of energy from them, hitting Roselia, and dealing super effective damage; Stella's points decreases greatly.
"Roselia, Stun Spore!" said Stella. Roselia releases orange powder from her roses towards Alakazam.
"Alakazam, Teleport!" said Kenny. Alakazam vanishes, causing Stun Spore to miss, and lowering Stella's points. "Now use Confusion!" Alakazam appears in front of Roselia and its eyes glowed purple; Roselia gets lifted up from the stage and gets slammed down onto it, dealing super effective damage, and lowering Stella's points even more.
"Roselia, Mega Drain!" said Dawn. Roselia fires a green beam of energy from one of her roses and it hits Alakazam, hitting it, and damaging him, draining some of its energy, and healing some of Roselia's wounds; Kenny's points decrease.
"Alakazam, Psycho Cut!" said Kenny. Alakazam swings one of its spoons, releasing a purple, crescent-shaped blade of energy from it; it hits Roselia, dealing super effective damage, and knocking Roselia to the stage floor. A buzzer suddenly rings out.
"Time's up!" said Marian. Stella and Kenny both look at the monitor; they saw that Kenny had more points than Stella. "It would appear Kenny is the winner. Kenny will now advance to the final round where he will face Dawn." Back at Royal Woods.
"Oh, poor Stella." said Mrs. Zhau.
"She did her best." said Rita. Back at the Floraroma Contest Hall, Stella drops to her knees and returns Roselia to her pokeball.
"It's okay, Roselia; there's always the next contest." said Stella.
"Yeah, you did pretty good." said Kenny.
Later, in the dressing room, Stella was finished changing into her regular attire when she hears knocking on the door.
"Stella, it's us." said Lincoln.
"Come in." replied Stella. The door opens and Lincoln, Clyde, Luna, Sam, and Dawn walk inside.
"Are you all right, Stella?" asked Lincoln.
"I'll be okay." said Stella.
"I'm sure with more training, you'll beat Kenny." said Lincoln.
"Thanks, Lincoln." said Stella before kissing Lincoln on the lips. "For now, that will be my consolation prize."
"No need to worry, Stella; Lincoln will be a big help." said Dawn. "Just leave Kenny to me for now."
Later, on the Battle Stage, Dawn and Kenny were walking onto it.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, it is the final round of the Floraroma Pokemon Contest as Dawn will face Kenny." said Marian. "Whoever wins this one will be leaving with the Floraroma Ribbon." Dawn and Kenny each pull out a pokeball.
"Sylveon, spotlight!" said Dawn, throwing Sylveon's pokeball and releases her, followed by a swirl of white ribbons.
"Prinplup, go!" said Kenny, throwing a pokeball and releasing a Prinplup, followed by bubbles.
"Okay, Sylveon, Disarming Voice!" said Dawn. Sylveon lets out a loud shriek, releasing a beam of purple hearts from her mouth and it hits Prinplup, dealing damage, and lowering Kenny's points.
"Prinplup, Metal Claw!" said Kenny. Prinplup charges at Sylveon while one of its flippers turns metal and it slashes Sylveon with it, dealing super effective damage, and lowering Dawn's points.
"Sylveon, Sand Attack!" said Dawn. Sylveon turns and kicks sand into Prinplup's eyes, lowering its accuracy.
"Prinplup, Bubble Beam!" said Kenny. Prinplup fires a beam of bubbles out of its beak at Sylveon, but misses, causing Kenny's points to lower.
"Sylveon, Swift!" said Dawn. Sylveon releases stars from her body and they hit Prinplup, damaging it, and Kenny loses more points.
"Prinplup, Metal Claw!" said Kenny. Prinplup charges at Sylveon and slashes her, causing super effective damage and causing Dawn to lose points.
"Quick Attack!" said Dawn. Sylveon charges at Prinplup and rams it, landing a critical hit, knocking Prinplup to the ground, and causing Kenny to lose more points; Prinplup struggles to get up.
"Prinplup, Bubble Beam!" said Kenny. Prinplup fires a beam of bubbles at Sylveon.
"Sylveon, Swift!" said Dawn. Sylveon releases stars from her body; the bubbles and stars crash against each other, cancelling each other out, causing both coordinators to lose points. "Now use Disarming Voice!" Sylveon lets out a loud shriek and releases a beam of purple hearts at Prinplup, hitting it, and causing Kenny's points to decrease.
"Prinplup, Met..." Kenny began to say when the buzzer went out.
"Time is up!" said Marian. "Now let's see who the winner is." Dawn and Kenny both look at the screen to see their points. "It was a close match, but the winner of the Floraroma Pokemon Contest is Dawn."
"Dawn did it!" said Clyde.
"Way to go, Dawn!" said Sam. Dawn looks with a stunned look on her face until it was replaced by joy.
"Yippee!" cheered Dawn. Kenny looks with a shocked look on his face before smiling; he then looks at his Prinplup.
"Don't worry, Prinplup; we'll be ready for the next contest." said Kenny. He and his Prinplup both walk over to Dawn. "You didn't do too bad."
"Thanks, Kenny." said Dawn.
"But don't think you'll beat me next time." said Kenny. "Until then, see ya, Dee Dee."
"Stop calling me Dee Dee!" said Dawn. Kenny smirks and walks away. Later at the Floraroma Contest Hall, Dawn and Sylveon were standing next to each other while Raoul Contesta holds out a flat box, containing a gold, triangle-shaped object with orange and white ribbons on it towards Dawn; she takes it out of the box.
"I just won the Floraroma Contest Ribbon!" cheered Dawn, holding up the ribbon.
Later, after Dawn changed into her regular attire, she meets the others in the lobby.
"Congrats, Dawn." said Luna.
"You were great, Dawn." said Lincoln.
"Thanks, Lincoln." said Dawn, running to Lincoln and hugging him, making Stella growl and pull Lincoln away from her.
"I may have lost in this contest, but I'll be prepared for the next one." said Stella.
"So will I." replied Dawn.
With the Floraroma Pokemon Contest ending in Dawn's victory, the group focuses on getting to Eterna City where Lincoln's next gym battle awaits him, as well as Stella and Dawn's next contest. What else will they experience as their Sinnoh adventure continues?
