It was just a regular day. Before 8 o'clock, the school was completely vacant. No teachers, no students, no nothing. Just lockers, doors and windows that remained unopened.
However, there was news to the class the day before. Calypso told them that a new student was coming to the class. Interestingly, the Australian shepherd also added that this student used to be part of their class back in year 1!
The class was in shock. No one remembered someone 10 years ago, except for Snickers.
Snickers has a memory unlike anyone, he knows lots of things back in year 1. But the fact that Calypso knew about someone coming back after ten years is absolutely beyond belief.
Fast forward to the day after telling the class about the newbie, Snickers came just after 8.
Now Snickers is not the type of guy to come early. He always comes before the first period bell rings. But when he is early, it is often because he is excited about new students arriving.
Whenever he sees a new face, he kindly greets them with a smile or a handshake.
And that's what he did.
A few minutes later, Winton came. Winton and Snickers are very good friends as they are rather unique.
Winton is unique as he is the shortest in class while Snickers is the longest. Therefore, they are called the Unique Duo.
After 8:45am, everyone came. Well, not really everyone because of the new student.
"Any idea where the new student is?", Winton wondered.
"I think he or she is not here yet.", Snickers replied.
"Alright then.", Winton said, eventually still waiting.
The bell rang, Winton and Snickers walked themselves to their class.
The first period just went like any other period. It was normal. Then, Calypso's phone rang. It was the principal. The principal called her because the new student had arrived.
Following this call, Calypso looked at everyone in class.
"Okay class, our new student is just outside the office. Please be nice alright?", Calypso kindly said to everyone.
"Okay Calypso!", everyone said listening.
With this, Calypso walked out of the classroom to greet the new student.
After she left, Snickers said: "Hey guys! What do you think the student is? A he or a she?"
The whole class aside from him, shrugged with confusion.
"Okay, then I have no clue.", Snickers sarcastically said.
Outside of the classroom, Calypso waited for the new dog to arrive. She didn't expect for this dog to come later than anybody. But, thankfully, she didn't have to wait. The new student walked up the slope onto the school grounds. The student was a german shepherd.
"Hello Gruber.", replied Calypso.
"Hallo!", Gruber responded.
"Its nice to meet you again after ten years.", he continued.
"Good to meet you too again Gruber.", Calypso happily exclaimed.
"Now, I will take you to your class okay?", she answered afterwards.
"Okay miss!", Gruber answered back.
The two walked through the corridors and hallways just talking about their lives before. Gruber said that for the past ten years, he had been living in Germany and also studying there, Specifically, in the city of Frankfurt. He speaks fluent German but also French and English. But, aside from speaking three languages, he has an interesting talent. He is actually quite known in his area in Frankfurt as he and his father sells german sausages.
That talk was as long enough as a walk from the entrance to their class.
"This is your new class Gruber, Year 11C.", responded Calypso.
"Oh wow. That looks nice.", Gruber said in awe.
He knocks on the door, which is heard inside instantly. Snickers heard the knock and went towards the door.
"Oh! Hello!", Snickers said surprised.
"Hallo!", Gruber replied.
"What's you're name?", Snickers questioned.
"Gruber! Gruber Shepherd!", he answered.
Snickers was shocked. He had a pretty good memory, knowing many things from the past school days he had.
"Gruber! Its nice to see you again!", happily said the dachshund before giving him a handshake.
"You too! I still knew all of you when I was residing in Germany!", the german shepherd happily said.
Later, Gruber entered the classroom with smiles and greetings from his new classmates.
However, after meeting everyone, someone caught the german shepherd's attention. Winton.
He noticed that Winton was still the shortest in class even by just a few inches. But, Gruber was so interested as the bulldog was still having that talent at making people laugh even by being goofy.
"Hey Winton!", Gruber said approaching him.
"Oh hi Gruber!", Winton excitingly said.
"Why are you here?", he continued.
"Well, I want to see how are you doing.", Gruber responded.
"Oh I'm doing good!", Winton replied.
"It still hurts being the shortest...", the bulldog continued.
"I know...", Gruber added.
"How was Germany?", Winton said.
"Oh it was pretty good!", Gruber responded with a smile.
"What is it like?", Winton questioned being curious.
"No one speaks English, they all speak German.", Gruber continued.
"Wow.", Winton replied with awe.
"Can you speak German?", he continued.
"Not really much.", Gruber mumbled.
"What was that?", Winton replied.
"Nothing!", Gruber uttered.
The two dogs talked for over the whole period as Calypso said that the class can have one period off.
Eventually, two periods later, Gruber had an idea. He went to a nearby stump, grabbed a metal tray and put german sausages on it?
What was going on?
It turns out, even in Frankfurt, he still wants to give his german sausages to his new classmates before moving to Brisbane.
He also brought out ketchup, mustard and barbecue sauce bottles as toppings for the german sausages. And yes, that includes buns.
After setting up his custom shop, it caught the eye of Bluey. Although Bluey doesn't have a better memory in her past than Snickers, she still knows how good his food was.
"What's going on here?", Bluey said curious.
"My german sausages! I am giving them to all my friends!", Gruber replied happily.
"Can I have one with ketchup?", Bluey responded.
"Coming right up!", Gruber answered.
He assembled the sausage on the bun later squirting ketchup from the bottle.
"Here you go Bluey!", Gruber replied, giving the german sausage to her.
After giving it to her, Bluey took a small bite and it was like heaven. The sausage was salted perfectly, the ketchup was sweet and the bun was, well a bun. But Bluey thought that it was the best german sausage she had tasted.
"This is so good!", Bluey replied happily.
"Aw thanks!", Gruber answered back.
"German sausages, get your german sausages!", Gruber shouted to everyone across the field and school.
Immediately, one by one, his classmates came lining up for german sausages.
After a few minutes, every sausage was sold out. Snickers and Winton approached the german shepherd as he was packing his things.
"That was delicious!", Snickers uttered.
"Oh thank you!", Gruber responded with a beam.
"You know, you're pretty unique!", Winton acknowledged.
"R- really?", Gruber said.
"Yes! We're a duo! Me and Winton!", Snickers said happily.
"What makes you two unique?", Gruber replied.
Winton said: "He's the longest, I'm the shortest and you're the best at cooking!"
"Wait, why are you saying that I'm the best at cooking?", Gruber said with a baffled expression.
"You're unique!", Snickers said.
"You have an interesting talent on making delightful treats for us!", the dachshund continued.
"So, that means I'm part of your duo?", the german shepherd said.
"No! You're part of our... trio!", Winton excitingly said.
"Its a deal!", he later said.
Gruber gasped in shock, he didn't have lots of friends in Germany, let alone in a group of friends.
Of course, he accepted the deal. He wanted to be part of a friend group.
"Sure! I would love to be part of it!", Gruber said.
From that day onwards, the Unique Duo became the Unique Trio.
With Snickers being the longest or the tallest, Winton being the shortest and Gruber being the best cook in the class.
Despite their differences, the one difference that won't be changed is their friendship.
