Author's Note:

First and foremost, my thanks to RandomKritic, he left a very kind review. It's these kinds of things that keep me going on this story.

Also, I will be changing my updating style. What I will probably do from now on is write several chapters before uploading them all together. This does mean longer waits for each upload. Though I assume you're all used to that given my shoddy upload schedule.

Chapter 21: Layout

The soft noise of Six grumbling was the only sound that graced him and his guide.

Miss Huey was currently showing him around the campus which was his technical last task of the day. Of course, neither of them really wanted to speak so it was a rather quiet and boring trip.

Sure, he had done his job for Ozpin and made sure no one noticed him. Apparently, the headmaster wasn't satisfied with that which meant he still had to do this chore as well. It was rather pointless as he had already studied the infrastructure and blueprints of the campus. He knew where everything was at.

It was interesting to note some of the details that weren't on the blueprints but it wasn't anything that made this trip worth it so far.

Luckily, Goodwitch had given his Pip-Boy access to the cameras on the local network. Well, at least the ones showing public areas. It made it easier to do both his jobs.

One hand idly fiddled with the flower Carmine had given him on his vest while he watched the camera feed on his Pip-Boy. The current ceremony in the theatre room was organizing the students into teams. Something he'd have to keep in mind for Ozpin's new task for him.

Joshua couldn't believe that Ozpin had essentially tricked him into this. It was irritating. Having to look at each individual pair and team in the class and prepare to spar with them was a lot of effort. Not to mention a lot of risks involved if his lack of Aura was discovered. The thought was pushed to the back of his mind as his new direct boss spoke to him.

"This is the area your route runs through," she said while turning to him. The two were currently in near the classrooms. That meant he was placed a distance away from Ozpin's office, this would make it harder to gain access but it was only a minor problem.

"In the morning, you'll make sure that nothing out of the ordinary is on your route, afterward you can head to the monitor room." The Faunus' eyes glanced at the hand on his vest as she asked, "that little flower mean something to you?"

His helmet turned to meet her gaze as he finally glanced up from his Pip-Boy. Six knew it was rather rude but he was distracted by seeing Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang all put into a single team. All the problems were together now which was both a blessing and a curse. It would be easier to monitor them together but if they all got to talking…

"It was a gift, that's all," Ulysses replied while moving his hand away from the flower.

Sensing the finality in his voice, Huey shrugged before turning away. "When you're not working your route, you'll be at the monitor room," she began while pointing towards a window. Outside the window in an adjacent building to the one they were currently in was a grey metal door.

"You'll need your badge to get in," she continued before pointing to the rank badge on his vest. "Don't lose it."

The Courier held up a thumb in response which caused his boss to turn away. "You'll patrol your route once in the morning and once when you close at night. When you're not on your route, you'll be monitoring the cameras for any suspicious activity and putting a stop to it, whether that's a student or otherwise."

It all seemed straightforward enough to him. Keep everyone out of trouble. The two walked into the cafeteria before she turned to him.

"Other than that… During lunch or in between periods you may have to stand somewhere public where the students see you. Just to dissuade anyone from doing anything too foolish."

The woman turned her head towards him, her sunglasses giving off a more serious expression. "And make sure you don't do anything foolish as well. Understand?"

"Listen lady, I know I'm the "big bad mercenary" but I'll behave, promise." The words that left Six's mouth were a lie in more ways than one.

The Faunus paused while tapping her foot on the ground. Her tone shifted to something more relaxed as she continued, "other than any emergencies or special tasks that might pop up. That's it."

A scroll was produced from Huey's pocket as she activated the holographic screen and began tapping. A few moments later and his Pip-Boy buzzed. The fact his "scroll" number had been given to seemingly all the staff was going to make this annoying.

Moreover, he was going to need to be very careful as the "Mimic" from now on. If people saw the villain wearing the same device on his wrist as "Ulysses House," it was going to get bad. Luckily no recordings of him had a good shot of his wrist so far.

"You have my number in case you have any questions, do try not to waste my time with simple things." After she spoke, the head of security turned away from him and began walking. "Feel free to have the rest of the day off after you sit in on the rest of the ceremony. Ozpin's orders."

Of course, Ozpin would want him to sit in on this. Why was the headmaster treating him like a child?

"Thanks for showing me around boss," Joshua said before heading towards the auditorium. His "boss" didn't grace him with a response. She was all business that one.

The trip to the auditorium was quick with only one minor stop on the way there. After all, the facilities for the campus were closed until tomorrow.

It was frustrating, none of the facilities at Beacon would open up until the actual first day of classes the next morning which meant he'd have to wait until tomorrow evening to work on the transportalponder.

Well, technically not legally open. The workshop at Beacon served as the area to help forge and create tools, weapons, and armor. While it wasn't open today, he had access to the cameras that monitored it and knew where they were at.

This gave him enough information to slip inside through the back where there were no cameras. From there he simply grabbed some items he'd need so he could work on a little project he had in store.

And now here he was, sitting in on the last few team announcements. It wasn't anything he cared about so he pulled up his Pip-Boy.

Six was leaning against a wall in the back of the room so he wasn't scared of anyone monitoring him as he activated his secure line. It was time to give Roman an update.

"This is 6, I've got my schedule and access to the camera network on campus. Only the public stuff right now. I'll attempt to gain access to other schedules and the private camera network later."

After typing his message and hitting send, he glanced back up. The last team was being announced, some group he didn't recognize.

Six blinked as he realized something, he had the actual luxury of just sitting around and waiting. That wasn't something he often got to do in the Mojave or before that. The Wasteland in general was an unforgiving place that meant you always needed to be working.

His helmet glanced over several occupants of the room as he realized just how blessed they all were. How blessed he was to even be here without a worry for getting food or stopping raiders.

Then his Pip-Boy buzzed and he was snapped back to reality as he looked down.

"Hey, hey, my second favorite employee. Glad to hear things are going well. Keep up the good work, we'd really like those schedules but no rush! We've got plenty of time to get this done. Neo says hi. Enjoy your stay in "high-life" at Beacon. I know you miss us!"

Roman was just as obnoxious over text as he was in person. Six rolled his eyes under his helmet as he typed out, "will do."

That's all he'd send for right now, there wasn't much else he needed to say and Joshua wasn't in the mood for a chat with the conman.

A round of applause drew his gaze upward. The last team was stepping off stage which meant the ceremony must finally be finishing up.

Well, he sat in on it, time to head back to his room. He needed to monitor some of the cameras for information gathering and complete that side project of his.

The Courier leaned off the wall and began walking towards one of the exits before he was cut off by a red blur that zoomed past him. This was quickly followed by Yang and Blake rushing past him. He doubted they even recognized him, that was for the best.

Then came the final member of there team who stopped and turned towards him. The Courier made sure to clear his throat so he could do that same professional tone he used earlier.

House placed both hands behind in his back in a disciplined posture as Weiss spoke to him. "You're… That one security guard that brought my luggage to me, right?"

Ah, so that's what this was about. "Yes ma'am, was there something else you needed?"

His question caused the white-themed girl to shake her head before responding, "no, I just wanted to say thank you. You have a good day."

"Of course, you too ma'am," he said while maintaining his posture even as she turned away.

The girl got a few feet away before turning back to him and taking a closer look. After a few moments she spoke. "You seem… Familiar. Have we met before?"

Six's hands clenched together as he internally panicked for a moment. "No ma'am, I don't believe we've ever met," Joshua responded, doing his best to remain neutral.

Weiss shook her head and blinked a few times. As she turned away, she muttered, "right, of course, sorry to keep you." The former Heiress took off after her friends after she spoke.

Joshua let out a sigh as he was left to his own thoughts. This was going to be a long school year. Still, at least the mission wasn't over on day one.

His footsteps blended in with the noise of students leaving as Joshua left the auditorium. It was time to work on his project.
