A/N: Shorter note this time, I do try to keep my promises!
1. This is NOT a sequel to "It could never work". This is a spin-off/AU where the animatronics are actually sentient and have feelings and emotions and all that jazz.
2. The points from "It could never work" also apply here except for points 2 and 3. Still no creepy dead ghost children though.
3. Please read my other story named "It could never work" before you read this because it's kinda important for a little bit of backstory.
4. Backstory is that all of the animatronics facial recognition stuff was tampered with, except for Mangle. This is because it was assumed that she would be too broken to do anything (i.e kill the night guard).
Anyways I hope you like it!
Mangle - or Toy Foxy as she was once called before she was, well, mangled - didn't understand why the other animatronics were trying to kill the night guard. He seemed nice enough and he never showed up in her sex offender database, so by all accounts he was fine. But the others didn't see it that way. They claimed that he was a predator and that he was a threat to the children. Mangle disagreed with that statement. If he truly was a threat, then why didn't he show up in the database? Their facial recognition software was state of the art and had never failed them before.
Unfortunately Mangle couldn't express those thoughts on account of her broken voicebox. She constantly emitted strange static noises and whilst the other animatronics had gotten used to it, she couldn't speak properly and had to instead communicate with vague hand gestures and body language. It was frustrating that she couldn't speak, especially because her purpose was literally to talk. She was originally intended to tell stories to young children in Kid's Cove whilst the older kids were hanging out with Toy Freddy and the others.
For a while, life was normal until suddenly some kids had the bright idea to take her apart. Having her pieces of her body ripped from her endoskeleton was extremely painful (and also the first time that she felt true pain in her life) but she couldn't let that show in order to not frighten the children so she forced herself to smile and let them do what they wanted. For the first few weeks, the staff always returned to put her back together. It no longer hurt as much as it used to as she got used to the pain and she could always count on the fact that the mechanics would fix her. But then they suddenly stopped.
On the first day without being fixed, she assumed that they had forgotten or they were busy with something else. Her costume was heavily damaged, with holes, dents and scratches everywhere.
On the second day without being fixed, she wondered if they had gotten sick or perhaps injured and couldn't help her. Her costume was nearly destroyed entirely, ripped to pieces as her endoskeleton was exposed. Only her head and her hands and feet had survived the damage.
On the third day without being fixed, she hoped that they were coming back. She didn't even care why they had stopped fixing her, she just wanted the pain to end. Her exposed endoskeleton was extremely sensitive and the high pain tolerance that she had built up over the weeks was suddenly useless as she focused all of her energy on making it through the day.
On the fourth day without being fixed, she had lost almost all hope. Her voicebox was damaged and the only noises that she could make was static. One of her eyeballs had also been ripped out of its socket.
The fifth day was the worst day of her life. She had completely given up on the hope that anyone would fix her. But then she heard adult voices outside of the door to Kid's Cove. She silently crawled closer to listen. She could tell that they were talking about her.
The voices were of a man and a woman. The man explained to the woman that Toy Foxy was severely damaged and that the damage needed to be fixed immediately before it became irreperable. The woman scoffed and told the man that it wasn't necessary and to just wait until the animatronic breaks down to scrap it. Mangle's metaphorical heart sank. The man said something intelligible. The woman laughed and made a comment about Toy Foxy's mangled appearance. The man laughed as well and joked that they should call it "the Mangle" from now on. Mangle had stayed silent for a moment, then crawled back to Kid's Cove and started sobbing on the floor, although it couldn't be heard over the static noise that she constantly emitted.
From that day onward, she was no longer Toy Foxy. She was now the Mangle.
But that was the past. She had gotten used to her new name and eventually she even started referring to herself as Mangle, although only in her head. She was still unable to speak after all.
Mangle shook herself out of her thoughts and emerged from her spot on the floor. It was the fourth night and she wanted to see the night guard again She was strangely fascinated with him. He was a young man, probably in his 20's with brown hair and brown eyes. He had dark bags under his eyes from a lack of sleep and he looked exhausted every time she had seen him. She jumped up to the ceiling and started making her way to the vent that she usually used. She ignored old Chica who was in the same party room and crawled into the vent.
Evan Morris was, in fact, incredibly exhausted. It was 3 AM and he hadn't had much sleep in days. He checked the cameras, used the vent lights and checked the hallway. Foxy had been annoyingly persistent today but the flashlight always took care of him. He could've sworn he heard the old fox mutter something to himself when he retreated but Evan decided that he was probably just hearing things.
He started winding up the music box and checked the party room cameras. He saw Bonnie in one of the Party Rooms and flipped to the left vent's camera. He saw nothing there and put down the tablet and flashed his flashlight at the hall. Freddy was standing there and Evan quickly put on his Freddy Fazbear mask. Freddy continued staring at him for a minute then walked away without making a sound.
Evan heard something in the right vents and quickly checked the camera. He saw nothing there and when he put the tablet down, he saw Mangle climbing out of the vent entrance. He yelped and put his mask on. Mangle crawled over towards him, seemingly unaffected by the mask trick. He started shaking in fear. Mangle inched closer until she was close enough to touch him. She reached out an arm and took his Freddy mask off and stared into his eyes.
He knew it was stupid and wasn't going to work and might in fact piss her off, but people don't tend to make rational decisions when they are about to die. "P-please don't kill me! Please! I beg you, please!" he shouted, slowly leaning away from her towards the back of his chair. Mangle blinked at him and probably tried to say something but it was drowned out by the static. She looked annoyed (wait... annoyed?) for a moment and then went back to her neutral expression. She nodded at him and turned around and started crawling back into the vent. Evan stared at the vent in shock. She just... let him go?
A/N: I know it's short, but I promise the next chapter will be longer. I haven't slept well recently and I don't have the energy to write anymore right now so I decided to leave it off at a cliffhanger. Please review and tell me what I did good and what I could have done better and all that. Also unlike "It could never work", this will be a multi-chapter fic because I have neither the time nor the energy to write everything in one sitting. But stay tuned for the next part, as it will include Mangle's POV of the encounter. Anyways I hope you liked it! :)
Cya!
