(Twitchy and I are putting party decorations around the office when I see the readers.)
KW: Hey, everyone in Fanfic Land. It's your raising writer kathmanw19 with a brand new story up my sleeve. Now, you're probably wondering what we're doing decorating the place. Well Twitchy and I are having an office welcome party for a good friend of mine. She is an accomplished writer here on this site and one of my favorites. (I look at my watch.) I wonder where she is. Twitchy, are you sure you gave her the right address?
Twitchy: Uh, yeah. I'm not dumb. She might be just a bit late, don't worry.
(*DING DONG*)
Twitchy: Didn't know we got a doorbell.
(Enter the beautiful and amazing TheMasterKat)
KW: Kat, you're here!
MK: Yeah, sorry I was late. There was a bit of traffic getting here.
KW: Welcome to my office. Btw, I added a security system to keep a certain merc with a mouth at bay.
MK: Thanks. Sheesh, can't he be happy with the couple of appearances he's getting?
WK: Now you probably know who this is. but for those who don't? First, wow. Really? Second, this is TheMasterKat, who is most famous for the Total Drama Everything story franchise and its spin-offs. Now in this fanfiction, we are going into space and time. That's right, we are going Doctor Who!
Twitchy: Wow.
MK: This story takes place between Series 3 and 4 of the current version of Doctor Who, so basically during the 10th Doctor's run.
KW: Now some of you readers are wondering: why are we doing this? Well this series serves two purposes. One, to see if we can do a full, original Doctor Who series with its own episodes and enemies. And two, as you probably know last week was the Series 16 (or series 1, depending on who you ask) finale of Doctor Who, and we won't get a new episode until the holidays in December. Naturally, for some Whovians who've seen every episode they need time to kill until the Christmas special airs.
MK: My reason for doing this with Kath is simple. I was interested in the idea when he told me about it, it was something I had never tried before, and I figured it would be fun. So far, it is. I am really excited to see where this goes.
KW: But the difference is that the companions are characters from various forms of media. So we have some from animated shows, some from live-action shows, some from video games, and some from movies. And there are a lot. Here is the list of the companions.
1. Pearl (Steven Universe)
2. Belle (Disney's Beauty and The Beast)
3. Scooby Doo (Scooby Doo)
4. Bugs Bunny (Looney Tunes)
5. Tigger (Winnie the Pooh)
6. WALL-E (WALL-E)
7. Frankie Foster (Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends)
8. Chihiro (Spirited Away)
9. Star Butterfly (Star vs the Forces of Evil)
10. Dipper Pines (Gravity Falls)
11. Sokka (Avatar: The Last Airbender)
12. Gwen Tennyson (Ben 10)
13. Murdock (The A-Team)
14. Elsa (Disney's Frozen)
15. Tess (Jak and Daxter)
16. Daxter (Jak and Daxter)
17. Sam (Sam & Max)
18. Max (Sam & Max)
19. Cosmo (Sonic X)
20. Jessica (Craig of the Creek)
21. Parker (Leverage)
22. Riley (Inside Out)
23. Ed (Ed, Edd n Eddy)
24. Double D (Ed, Edd n Eddy)
25. Eddy (Ed, Edd n Eddy)
26. Judy Hopps (Zootopia)
27. Johnny Two Teeth (Sam and Max)
28. Mirabel (Encanto)
29. Camillo (Encanto)
KW: I know what you're probably thinking. That's a whole lot of companions. If I do this right, this story could be really good. And we could maybe be as good as RTD, Moffat, and Chibnall.
MK: Also, this story is officially considered canon for both of our respective writings, meaning this takes place in the same universe for both of us. And yes, this DOES take place after Deadpool's Adventure with The Doctor: The Time Dragon.
KW: That pretty much covers everything. But before we get into the story, here is the disclaimer.
Disclaimer: I do not own Doctor Who nor the characters from the show nor the companions as they belong to their respective owners (BBC, Disney, Sega, Nickelodeon, Studio Ghibli, Cartoon Network, Naughty Dog, NBC Universal, TNT, Sam Purcell and TellTale)
Now enjoy the story!
The TARDIS
The hums of the console reverberated through the room as he fiddled with the controls, his brown trench coat hanging on the nearby railing behind him. He seemed pretty focused at the moment, which was necessary. Getting anywhere in the universe took a large amount of focus while piloting the TARDIS. And having had plenty of experience, the Tenth Doctor knew how to focus better than most anyone among the stars.
That didn't mean there wasn't anything the Doctor couldn't get out of his head at the moment.
Not too long ago, the Doctor had bid a fond farewell to Martha Jones, his previous companion. She made the decision to leave the TARDIS in order to both look after her family after they had been tortured by the Master, and to also get over her romantic feelings for the Doctor, which he had never spotted. He hoped whatever she was doing out there, she would be okay. He owed her that much.
But what happened after weighed even more heavily on his mind. He had stowed away onto a cruise liner/spaceship modeled after the original RMS Titanic, discovering a sinister plot onboard to crash land the ship on Earth, destroying all life on the planet. The Doctor had promised to save everyone onboard the ship. He failed. One particular death still gnawed on his mind, a maid working on the ship who gave her life to help the Doctor save the world. Before this, they had promised to travel together.
Her name was Astrid.
And as he looked around the empty console room, the Doctor sighed.
"I know, Old Girl," he told the TARDIS. "But I keep saying it. I don't need anyone else right now. I like traveling this way. Just me and my little blue box."
Pausing his current fixation on the controls, he reached for his coat and put it on. The perfect item to wear when running. The tail end flapping behind him? Add some slow motion, and cue the dramatic sequence. Plus, the coat worked well with his pinstriped suit, red Converse, and messy brown hair.
He returned to the controls, a destination finally on his mind. But just as he was about to set course, the TARDIS lurched, throwing the Doctor off balance, hanging onto the railing to keep from being thrown onto the floor.
"What was that?"
Carefully, he checked the monitor to see what was outside. He gasped to see that his beloved time/space ship was currently caught in a tractor beam. Quickly, he opened the door (the TARDIS providing an air bubble to protect from the vacuum of space) and looked up.
The TARDIS was currently being pulled into a large spaceship. Hurriedly, he ran back inside and tried to steer the ship out of there. But the beam was too strong, even for it. However, he didn't care. His natural curiosity and sense of adventure was taking hold, and he found himself looking forward to discovering what was on the ship.
The TARDIS was finally docked inside the ship, and two guards walked in, stalking their way towards the Doctor. That was the first discovery.
"Hello. I'm the Doctor. Did you need me for something? You seem pretty eager to get me onboar-"
THUNK!
The second discovery was a swift club straight to the back of his head.

Doctor Who:
Home Away From Home
By kathmanw19 and TheMasterKat
As the Doctor's consciousness returned, he became aware of something sitting on his chest. He opened his eyes and focused his vision on the new disturbance, only to find himself face to face with an orange weasel-like face.
"Hey, there he is!" the "weasel" said before he called out behind him. "Hey, look alive everyone! New guy has returned to the land of the living."
The "weasel" jumped off as the Doctor sat up, still a little disoriented as he beheld a large group sitting in the room with him. But he suddenly became alert when a blonde woman suddenly came charging at him.
"He's mine!"
Two other people from the group, a woman with long brunette hair and a man with a wild glint in his eye, rushed over and grabbed the blonde's arms, holding her back.
"That's enough," said another woman, a redhead wearing a green jacket, as she walked over and helped the Doctor stand up.
"Sorry about that. I think this whole mess has left some of us a little paranoid. Anyway, how are you feeling?"
The Doctor smiled at the woman beside him. "Not too bad, given I did just get whacked in the head and nearly tackled. Thanks."
A boy with a yellow shirt and small chin whispered to the boy in the black hat standing next to him. "Sweet, he's British. I gotta ask him if he's met royalty."
"Anyway, where are we?" the Doctor asked. "What is this place?" He saw that he and the group were in a large room, the walls lined with bars.
"It's hell," the man with the wild look said, earning an elbow to the side from the brunette.
"Don't listen to him," said a redheaded girl in a blue shirt and capris. "Though I guess it's not a bad way to look at it. We're all in the ship's brig."
"In other words, spaceship jail," said a bipedal dog in a suit and fedora.
"Oh, so we're basically prisoners," the Doctor said. "Brilliant. Just what I needed, to be a prisoner."
In the corner, a tall, bipedal rabbit laughed. "Yeah, none of us enjoy it either," he said in a thick New York accent. "But what we want to know is, who the heck are you?"
The Doctor paused. He really didn't know what to tell this group. He didn't really know any of them, so telling them his true identity was a little complicated at the moment. He was in the middle of formulating a good lie when a voice suddenly rang up amongst the crowd.
"Wait."
Everyone looked to see the source of the voice. It had come from a pale woman standing in the corner, with short hair and an outfit somewhat reminiscent of a ballerina. A pearl was embedded in the center of her forehead. She walked over to where the Doctor stood and sized him up, her gaze a mix of curiosity and suspicion.
"You look human," she said. "And yet, you're anything but. I can tell. I can also sense something I thought was long lost. I didn't think it was possible, but here you are. Tell me, are you a Time Lord?"
The Doctor tried not to react. 'How did she know?'
"Yeah, I know about the Time Lords. I didn't expect to possibly meet one here," the woman said, a little bashful. "I've heard so much about your people. Some good…and some bad. And the bad stuff is PRETTY bad, not gonna lie."
As the ballerina-like woman studied the Doctor, he studied her right back. It was clicking for him as well. The realization came in full when he saw the pearl on her head.
"You're a Gem!"
The woman extended her hand towards him and smiled, though the look of suspicion never left her eyes. "Name's Pearl."
Hesitantly, the Doctor accepted the handshake. "Nice to meet you, Pearl."
"Hold on," said a ten-year-old girl of Japanese descent standing near Frankie. "What's a Time Lord?"
"Yeah, is that what you are?" said another rabbit, this time a female in a cop's uniform. "Is that some title you give yourself? Weird."
Pearl bit her lip. "Sorry if I gave up your identity. I don't know if you were wanting to hide it or not. I guess you might as well tell everyone."
The Doctor sighed. "Guess that cat's out of the bag."
(Meanwhile…)
"How are the prisoners?"
One of the guards saluted. "All accounted for in their cell."
"Tell me, what number are we at now?"
"After this latest capture, we are at thirty, sir."
The man standing in the cockpit beside the captain huffed. "My collection needs to be bigger than this. Thirty is just not enough. I want more! Find me a new target."
"Yes, sir.
The mystery mastermind nodded and looked out the window. "Ah, my own personal collection, gathered from all over the universe. Oh, the marvels it will bring me and my guests."
(Back in the brig…)
"So I just wanna make sure I have this straight," said the boy in the black sock hat. "You're from a planet called Gallifrey-"
"Yes."
"-and you're part of an ancient alien species called Time Lords-"
"Got it."
"-pioneers of space and time-"
"On the money."
"And you call yourself 'the Doctor'?"
"That about sums it up, yes."
In the group, the Doctor could see a mix of bewilderment, awe, and disbelief. "If you were telling me this BEFORE I got locked up in here, I would say you're nuts," said a boy of around fifteen with a warrior's ponytail. "But since I'm currently imprisoned on an alien spaceship and surrounded by robots, rabbits, and plant girls, I think the benefit of the doubt is necessary here. Still pretty wild, though."
"Thank you," the Doctor said. "But what I want to know is who the rest of you are."
"Why would you need to know that?" the curly-haired boy wearing a baseball cap asked.
"Gee, I don't know. Maybe with all of us stuck here on some spaceship, with some of you clearly still giving me the stink eye-" He looks at the blonde that tried to tackle him. "-I think a little trust might be called for."
Everyone else shrugged. ""Okay, so who wants to start?" the bunny cop asked.
"Don't look at me," Pearl replied. "I've had my turn."
After a few seconds, a blonde girl of about thirteen stepped towards the Doctor and outstretched her hand. She was wearing a blue dress and seemed to exude wonder and excitement.
"Hi there. Name's Star Butterfly. Nice ta meetcha."
The Doctor slowly shook her hand. "Hello there." He looked at her more closely. "You're a Mewman, aren't you? From the Mewni Dimension?"
Star nodded enthusiastically, zooming back and forth as she stared at the Doctor.. "Uh huh. Part of the Butterfly Kingdom. I'm actually their princess. But what about you? Time Lord? Oh, I remember. Someone at school taught us about you guys. But wait, aren't you all dead? Hey, Doctor guy. Are you dead?"
"Uh star, he is talking to and I can hear two of his heart beating so pretty sure he is not dead." Pearl said
"Two hearts? Huh. Guess he IS an alien." Someone said
" oh sorry my bad " star said
" it ok I thought i was the last of kind until…" the Doctor said until he flashback to the master return and his death then he shook it off " never mind"
Finally, she got bored and stepped away, much to the Doctor's relief. Next was a girl seemingly made out of plants. She bowed nervously.
"H-hello. I'm Cosmo."
The Doctor looked at her. "I don't think I've seen a lot of your species. But hey, don't be shy."
"Sorry, I don't get the chance often to talk to anyone outside my own people."
Next up were the sock hat boy and his two companions: the short one from earlier who asked if the Doctor had met royalty, and a rather tall boy with a goofy look on his face.
"It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Doctor," the sock hat boy said, offering a handshake. My name is Edd, short for Eddward. And these are my friends, Ed and Eddy."
"Wait, you all have the same name? Are all of your names literally Edward?"
"It's a little confusing, we understand. My name is spelled with two d's, so everyone calls me Double D."
Before the Doctor said anything else, he noticed the goofy-faced boy looking right at him.
"Uh, can I help you?" he asked, before Edd suddenly wrapped his arms in a crushing bear hug and lifted him off the floor.
"REAL ALIEN! REAL ALIEN!"
"Yeah, forgot to mention Ed's an idiot," Eddy said.
"Which comic book are you in?"
"Please, put me down!"
Eddy suddenly burst into laughter. "This is the most fun I've had since I got stuck on this dumb ship. Does anyone have a camera? This is just pure gold right here." He wiped a tear. "Good times, guys. Good times."
Double D rolled his eyes and turned to face Ed. "Ed, down," he ordered in a stern voice. "Gently."
Glumly, Ed placed the Doctor back on the ground, firmly on his feet. He even went the extra mile by brushing him off.
"Pardon, he is very enthusiastic about aliens and monsters," Double D whispered.
The Doctor nodded, still recovering from the bear hug. "I can see that."
"For what it's worth, he's done that to everyone here that isn't from Earth," Pearl admitted.
"My arms are still numb," Star added.
Next to introduce themselves were a Latin duo, a girl with curly hair and glasses and a boy with similar hair.
"Hello," the girl said. "I'm Mirabel Madrigal, and this is my cousin Camilo."
"Hola," Camilo greeted.
The Doctor smiled. "Pleasure."
Camilo grinned. "Check this out," he said as his form shifted until it settled into a form identical to the Doctor's. The real Doctor nodded, impressed.
"You know, that looks really good on you," the Doctor said. "Quite handsome, I say."
"Nah, I don't think so," the Camilo!Doctor responded. "Your hair isn't ginger."
The real Doctor's face fell as Camilo shifted back to normal. "Wow, way to throw that one back at me…"
Next to introduce themselves was a box-like robot covered in rust, its big eyes surveying the room and its new occupant. He rolled his way to the Doctor, offering him a light bulb.
"WAAAAALLLLLEEEEEE!"
The Doctor noticed the name, WALL-E, on the robot's metal surface as he shook the robot's claw-like hand. "WALL-E, eh? Hello there. Not a bad bit of machinery. Looks like you've been through hell though."
WALL-E stared at him. "Dooooc…tor."
"I wonder what would happen if you met K-9."
The bunny cop was next. She flashed her badge and introduced herself. "Judy Hopps. Zootopia Police Department, 1st Precinct."
"A rabbit who's also a cop. I think I've met a few like that on some other planets?"
"Seriously?" Judy asked. "Because I'm the first rabbit ever to wear a Zootopia police uniform. You have got to tell me about those other places."
"Will do."
The other rabbit, the tall one, was next. Once he was in front of the Doctor, he pulled out a carrot. "Name's Bugs Bunny," he said, taking a bite out of his snack. "Eh, what's up, Doc?"
The Doctor blinked, surprised. "I don't think that catchphrase has ever been done with such perfect timing as it has right now."
"Right? I almost never get to say it to a doctor, much less an alien one."
Next up was the boy in the baseball cap. "I'm Dipper. Funny, you don't look much like a doctor."
"Do I have to look like one?"
"Sir, if you want to keep that name, I say it's a good piece of advice."
Eddy giggled. "Doc got burned."
"Alright," the Doctor said, his voice betraying his wounded pride. "Thanks for that."
Next to introduce themselves was the redheaded woman. "Believe it or not, I've dealt with even weirder beings than these," she said. "I run day-to-day operations at a place for imaginary friends."
"Imaginary…friends?"
"Yeah. Didn't you have one as a kid?"
The Doctor shrugged. "Possibly."
"Then you get it. Name's Frankie."
"Nickname for Frances, I presume?"
"Yep. Please don't call me Frances. I already have one guy with a British accent doing so, I don't need another."
"Noted."
Just then, the Doctor began to hear a growling from the corner, which was obscured by a strange shadow. "Hey, what's that sound?" he asked, slowly approaching its source.
Dipper stepped in front of him to block his way. "Uh, Doc? Just a quick warning for you. Trust me, you do NOT wanna go over there?"
The Doctor ignored this and continued moving towards the corner. "You don't know what I've seen out there," he said. "I'm sure there's nothing to worry about. What could possibly be scary-"
"WOO HOO HOO!"
"What the-"
Before the Doctor had time to react to the voice, he was suddenly pounced on and knocked to the ground by an orange blur. He looked up to see a creature that gave the appearance of a stuffed tiger.
"Hey, I tried to warn you," Dipper said while shaking his head and trying not to laugh.
"He's literally done this with every one of us," Frankie added.
"Who-" the Doctor began to ask.
"T-I-double 'guh'-er, that spells Tigger!" the tiger exclaimed. "Tigger's my name, and bouncin's my game!"
"Great, now will you please get off me?"
Tigger laughed. "You remind me of ol' Long Ear when you say that," he said as he bounced off the Doctor.
An eleven-year-old girl with sandy blonde hair walked up to take her turn as the Doctor stood up. "Hi. I'm Riley. What's up?"
"Oh, nothing much. Currently trapped in a jail cell amongst some of the strangest company I've seen in a long time. Oh yes, and I just got tackled by a stuffed tiger."
Riley laughed. "Try being near everyone for the past week like I have."
"So, Doctor whatever," said the teenager in a warrior wolf tail . "Can't say I ever believed aliens were a thing. But then again, I live in a place where lemurs fly. In fact, you're pretty average compared to what my friends back home and I have seen."
The Doctor smiled, taking that as a challenge. "Careful. Anything is possible in space and time. I know."
"Sure, fine. Name's Sokka, of the Southern Water Tribe."
"Pleasure."
The next introduction was a double package. They were anthropomorphic animals; an Irish Wolfhound wearing a gray suit and matching fedora, and a white rabbit with long, stick-up ears that went well with his excited expression.
"Top of the morning to you," said the dog. "I'm Sam, and he's Max. We're-"
"-the Freelance Police. You both are vigilantes who bring criminals to justice across the universe. Yes, I've heard of you both before."
"Our reputations precede us," Sam said. "Nice."
Max growled. "Speak for yourself. We got to do that to everyone else, and then we met the one guy who actually knows us. You have any idea how much I wanted to do that intro?"
The young brunette woman stepped forward and dipped into a low curtsey. "Bonjour, Doctor. My name's Belle."
The Doctor shook her hand. "French greeting AND French name."
"Is it that obvious?" Belle asked with a smile. "I live in the French countryside with my father."
The pilot with the wild look was next. "Howdy," he greeted. "Name's Murdock. Pilot of the A-Team, and proud crazy person. But don't let that stop ya. I think you're a swell guy, Doc. Let's be friends."
The Doctor groaned. "Great. Another Deadpool."
Hearing this, Double D muttered, "Wait, how does he know Deadpool?"
The next introduction came from probably the smallest of the whole group: a gray rat. He ran up and jumped onto the Doctor's shoulder.
"Name's Jimmy. And yeah, I'm a rat. But hey, don't let that intimidate you."
"I deal with Daleks regularly. Nothing intimidates me."
"Jimmy is here know me and Max given his home is in our office" Sam added
He jumped off and ran back to the group, letting the Japanese girl take her turn. "Uh, hello. I'm Chihiro."
"Hello. You seem nervous. Don't be, I'm not here to hurt anybody."
Chihiro nodded. "I know. I just didn't think I would end up in another weird problem."
"Another?"
"Nevermind."
Next was the blonde woman who had tried to tackle the Doctor earlier. "Sup. Name's Parker. And I don't like you."
The Doctor raised an eyebrow. "At least you're honest."
"I'm more than honest, buddy," the woman said, holding up a wallet-like object in her hand. Seeing this, the Doctor quickly checked his pockets.
He stared at Parker with a mix of admiration and annoyance. "Not bad," he said, swiping the wallet back from her.
"Go ahead and take it back. All it had was a piece of blank paper."
'Yes, and that's all you need to know.'
The next member of the group was a ten-year-old redheaded girl.
"Hi, I'm Gwen," she said, shaking the Doctor's hand. "And finally, an alien who looks human."
"Are you saying you've met aliens before?"
"Don't ask."
The Doctor chose not to press the subject for now. "Okay then." However, he DID detect something about the girl. Something…unique.
Next was a girl of about six or seven. "I'm Jessica Williams, future queen of Wall Street?"
"Wall Street? Of all things?"
"Uh huh. I follow the stock market every day, and learn all I can."
The Doctor shrugged. "Quite ambitious for your age, also admirable."
The "weasel" stepped forward, joined by another of the same species, apparently female. "Hey there, buddy. Name's Daxter, and this lovely lady here is my girl Tess."
"Hi," Tess said, waving.
The Doctor was puzzled by this one, particularly their appearances. "A pair of weasels?"
"WEASEL?!"
Daxter then jumped onto the Doctor's chest and promptly smacked him in the face.
"OW!"
"We're ottsels. Ott. Sel. Get it right."
He jumped off, leaving the Doctor rubbing his sore cheek.
"Sorry, he gets pretty angry whenever someone calls us weasels," Tess pointed out.
"I've known him from before we were captured," Double D admitted. "And I tried to warn everyone here not to call him a weasel. Murdock and Parker didn't listen."
A woman with white hair and an icy-blue dress stepped forward and bowed in respect. "Greetings, Doctor. I am Elsa, Queen of Arendelle. That, and I possess the powers of cryomancy. So there's that."
The Doctor bowed to her right back. "Your Majesty."
"Please, we have already taken care of the formalities. Just call me Elsa."
Star whispered to Daxter, "Hey, he did hear I'm a princess, right? How come I didn't get that kind of treatment?"
"Sorry, but you kinda don't give off the whole princess vibe," Daxter replied.
"HEY!"
Finally, a large, brown Great Dane rushed over to the Doctor, seemingly filled with excitement. He jumped up and quickly licked the Doctor's face.
"Rooby Doo! Hi."
The Doctor wiped his face with his arm. "Uh, hello. Scooby Doo? Did I get that right?"
Scooby nodded. "Reah." He laughed.
The Doctor looked around at the group. "So, is that everyone?" he asked.
"I think so," Frankie said
"Sweet, we all know each other," Sokka said. "Now we all get to grow old in this messed up cell together. So, has anyone come up with any more games to play yet?"
"Can we keep playing 'Twenty Questions'?" Max asked.
"Please, no," Parker groaned. "If I have to sit through another round of 'Twenty Questions', I'm gonna throw myself off the ship."
"Good luck with that," Murdock snarked. "Do you see an airlock in here? I definitely don't. But please, you're welcome to try. Make my day. Or at least my few seconds, because I'm pretty sure you would get the rest of us killed in the attempt too."
The Doctor rolled his eyes. "There's still more I want to know. How did you all come to be here? And do you know anything about whoever captured all of us?"
"We've all been brought here one by one or with our friends," Belle explained. "I think Tess and Daxter were the first, they've been here for a few weeks already."
The Doctor looked at the ottsels, alarmed. "A few weeks?!"
"I was the last one before you, Doctor," Chihiro said. "They brought me here just yesterday."
"And can any of you remember where you were and what you were doing before you were abducted?"
Murdock laughed. "Oh man. Buddy, do we have some stories for you? Let us weave you the tales of how the members of this esteemed company all wound up stuck on a spaceship, in a giant cell, with only a loaf of bread and water a day, and one bathroom that we've all been sharing."
In the form of a flashback montage, the group told their stories to the Doctor about how they were captured. Some of the stories made enough sense: Parker was whisked away during a heist, Belle was caught by surprise while engrossed in a book, the Eds were caught while working on their latest scam, and Judy was in the middle of beat patrol. Others were more humorous: Daxter had been captured while in the bathroom, Sam and Max were knocked out right after Sam had won the battle over who would answer the phone, Scooby was completely frozen in fear when they had rushed in, and Jessica had been freaking out about an accidental deviation in her routine. Murdock couldn't even remember how he was captured; he had been asleep on a desk (don't ask) when it happened.
"Okay, that all DOES sound awful," the Doctor stated. "Embarrassing for some of you."
"Yeah, tell me about it," Daxter complained. "I was just chilling in the bathroom, doing my business, and they just rushed in. It was humiliating. I'm glad my babe and I were first."
"Anyway, we've all been trying to get out of here from the start," Elsa explained. "Unfortunately, everyone's weapons and tools were confiscated when we got here, and this cell neutralizes any and all powers."
"And we know almost nothing about who captured us in the first place," Dipper continued. "All we have is what we've picked up from overhearing snippets of the guards' conversations. What we do know for sure is the guy's name: the Collector."
"That sounds evil," the Doctor said. "Was 'the Kidnapper' taken?"
Eddy laughed. "Yeah, bet you'll never guess what the guy's collecting."
"Us," Riley finished.
The Doctor sat down on the ground, thinking. "The Collector… Why would he want to 'collect' random people across the universe? None of us have anything obvious in common. Or do we? I barely know any of you. How should I know?"
"So I guess we all know each other now," Sokka said. "Now what?"
Hearing this, the Doctor stood up. "Isn't it obvious? We're going to get out of here, and then we're going to put an end to the Collectors little scheme."
"Wait, why do we have to deal with him?" Parker asked. "Why not just get out of the brig and blow this dump?"
Quickly, the Doctor did a headcount of everyone in the room, including himself. "Twenty-eight, twenty-nine, thirty! Yes! Right now, there are thirty people in this cell. But we all still have plenty of space to walk around. We all could be asleep on our backs and not notice each other. This means the Collector has plenty of room in here to stuff more innocent people if he wishes. Never mind the fact that a number of people are here already. This is something I cannot stand. I can't just sit back while he continues to take people across the universe from their everyday lives. Therefore, I think we know what the plan is now. Two things. One, we need to get the hell out of this brig. And B, or I guess two, find this Collector and stop him. Ugh, I still can't do bloody lists."
"Is this guy for real?" Eddy whispered.
"I am definitely for real, Eddy," the Doctor said. "I promise, on my honor, I'll get everyone out of here."
Everyone looked at him, surprised. That was a pretty bold claim for a guy to make, especially a guy they barely knew.
"Yeah, good luck with the door," Daxter said. "We've all tried pounding on that thing, and it won't budge."
The Doctor ran over to the cell door, examining it. "Hmmmmm…. Reinforced metal." To the amusement of everyone else, he then gave the door a small lick. "Well, he's not from Earth. There's nowhere on Earth with this kind of metal." He looked at the lock. "Yeah, that looks like a pretty tough nut to crack. Completely immune to any conventional types of lockpicking. Can't be broken either. The metal's too strong for that."
He turned his attention to the rest of the group. "What all have you tried to get past the door?"
"Mostly just pounding on it like there was no tomorrow," Eddy said. "Not even Lumpy (Ed) could do it, and he can uproot trees without effort."
"Some of us tried lockpicking," Jessica added. "Didn't work, that lock broke everything we could find."
"And they confiscated everything but the clothes on our backs when they threw us in here," Murdock added. And I had some cool stuff in my pockets. Random joke wrappers, a toy lollipop, the $20 I still have to pay B.A., toenails from my favorite finger-"
However, the Doctor then picked up what Murdock had just said. "Everything?" he asked.
"Yeah. What of it?"
In response, the Doctor pulled the wallet-like device from his pocket; the same one Parker had swiped from him earlier.
"Wait, did they miss something when they searched you?" Sokka asked. "But they didn't miss anything in our pockets with us."
A new theory was running through the Doctor's mind, and he was about to test it. Quickly, he checked his other pockets and began pulling a bunch of random stuff out, stuff that would normally never fit in pockets of that size: glasses, some hats, a very colorful scarf, some books, etc. The group watched, in awe at the Doctor's pocket sizes.
Finally, he found the item he was looking for: his trusty and iconic sonic screwdriver. He quickly kissed it and showed it to the group.
"This…is our ticket out of here."
"I have so many questions," Double D said. "First, how did all that fit in your pockets?"
The Doctor shrugged. "They're just bigger on the inside."
"Okay, but does this mean they DIDN'T search you?" Gwen asked. "Why didn't they search you?"
The Doctor smiled. "Parker, you said there was a malfunction they went and fixed before they threw me in here?"
"Yeah."
"I bet they went and took care of the malfunction, but in all of the excitement, they just threw me in here and completely forgot to search me. Common mistake, it could happen to anything. Anyway, this bad boy is my sonic screwdriver. It puts Swiss army knives to shame. There are over a thousand settings on this it doesn't work on wood for weird reason, And my favorite is the one that unlocks any lock I point it at."
"Any lock?" Frankie asked, skeptical.
"Yep."
"Then what are we waiting for?" Max asked. "Let's get out of here, kick the Collector in the jewels, and call it a day
" you crack me up little buddy!" Sam said
The Doctor put his finger to his lips. "Shhh." Quietly, he pointed the sonic screwdriver at the lock on the cell door.
Click!
As the door unlocked, a few people began to cheer, but the Doctor shushed them again as he slowly opened the door and popped his head out of the cell. After about two seconds, he moved back into the cell, closing and locking the door again.
"Two guards right outside the door," he said.
Murdock raised his hand. "Do you mind if I take care of this?"
"If you think you can," the Doctor said, unlocking the door again.
This time, it was Murdock who slowly poked his head out the door, seeing a guard each on either side. Smiling, he stepped out of the cell. Then, in just five seconds, he elbowed the first guard hard in the back, knocking him unconscious, then punched the other guard in the gut and floored him as well.
Most of the others looked in awe as Murdock dragged the two unconscious guards into a nearby closet. The Doctor, however, was annoyed. "Have you never heard of a simple distraction, like throwing a rock or using a mouse to get past them?"
"Not my style, Doc," Murdock said with a cheeky grin.
The Doctor sighed. "Whatever."
"So what's next?" Mirabel asked.
In response, the Doctor looked outside the cell again. "I suppose it's getting back everything that was confiscated."
Parker immediately jumped up in excitement. "Leave this one to me, Doc. Breaking in and taking stuff, that's kinda my thing. I'll have everyone's stuff back in ten minutes, tops."
"Well…as long as you have the enthusiasm…but can you do it without being spotted?"
"Oh, totally. This is the kind of stuff I was born to do. And being cooped up in here, I'm itching to get out and do something."
The Doctor nodded. "In that case, good luck."
Parker nodded back. "Ten minutes, time me," she said as she ran out the door.
Everyone else decided to wait back in the brig while Parker did her thing. The Doctor sat down against the wall, near Pearl and Belle. In particular, Pearl's appearance was of great interest to him. 'What's a Gem doing here?'
"Not exactly something a Time Lord does, getting captured," Pearl suddenly said, breaking the Doctor's train of thought. "I thought you guys were smart enough to avoid that kind of thing."
"Smart enough to avoid getting captured? Hardly. I prefer to save my brain for the escape."
Pearl nodded. "Neat."
That was all the evidence needed for the Doctor to confirm his suspicions about Pearl: that she simply didn't trust him at all. No doubt, Pearl knew plenty about the Time Lords. Of course, the Doctor was probably the first to admit that his own kind were never the most straightforward and morally sound souls in the universe.
Not that the Gems were much better. The Doctor had heard enough about the corruption of the Diamonds to last several lifetimes. And he knew it. But it seemed he was a lot better at hiding his knowledge of this than Pearl was at hiding her knowledge of the Time Lords.
Deciding not to worry about Pearl for a bit, the Doctor turned his attention to Belle.
(Just a quick note from kath and TMK: For Belle, this takes place before the events of Beauty and the Beast.)
"So, the French countryside?"
Belle nodded. "I live in this small town, bustling but beautiful. My father, Maurice, is an inventor, and has done everything he can to give me a good life. His inventions…don't always work, but he never stops trying. And he instilled within me a strong desire to learn from an early age."
The Doctor nodded in return. "And the town where you live…are you happy there?"
"Most of the time…," Bele began to say before she stopped herself.
"You don't have to say anything if you don't want to."
"No, it's fine. Anyway, one of my favorite things in the world is books. I visit the library every day. Give me a good enough book, and I'm gone. I mean it. Unfortunately, I'm kinda the black sheep back home. Many of the people in my town, mostly the men, think women should be content with being housewives, not allowed to learn about the world. Everyone treats me as an oddball, all except people like the librarian and my father, who don't care what the others think. The worst is Gaston. He's a complete brute."
"That bad?"
"Oh yeah. Literally every girl in our village swoons over him, it's ridiculous. He spends his time bragging about some major kill he made during a hunt, or how he'll one day have me as his beautiful trophy. If I'm gonna find someone one day, I want it to be someone who values my mind, not my face. Someone who will be there, watching out for me when I need them, and who I can talk to."
The Doctor gave a small grin. "Sounds like you're looking for a real keeper."
"And before you ask, don't worry. I can tell you're not looking for that kind of thing right now."
"That obvious?"
"The look in your eyes said it all when I talked about what I wanted out of a guy."
The Doctor nodded. "Do you think you ever WILL find him?"
"One day. Until then, I have my father, along with the greatest authors of all time."
The two shared a nod. The Doctor then took a moment to ponder about the people in the group. 'They're all so different, but they also seem to have forged a strong bond with one another. That makes sense, given the situation they were thrust in. But I have to say, these people are strong. There are a number of kids here, but most are acting strong for their age. I don't know if they were like that when they arrived. Really, I don't know if EVERYONE was this strong when they were thrown in here. But now, they're taking this all in stride. No doubt, I have found some good people here. I wonder…'
Just then, there was a knock on the door. Carefully, the Doctor scanned it first with his screwdriver, then unlocked the door. In came Parker, dragging a large, stuffed burlap sack.
"Good job, Parker!" Frankie exclaimed.
"And that was only eight minutes," the Doctor said, impressed.
Parker set the sack down on the floor. "What can I say? I'm good. Now, everybody come search for your junk."
Everyone began digging through the pile, searching for their lost items. Star found her magic wand, hugging it tightly. Murdock and Parker each were reunited with their own tools and weapons.
"Come on, I know you guys are in here somewhere," Sokka said as he searched.
Finally, he pulled out his metal bladed boomerang, and then a sheathed jian sword. He unsheathed the sword to inspect it, revealing a stunning black blade.
"My babies! Oh, how I've missed you!"
"Wait, may I see the sword?" the Doctor asked.
"Uh, sure."
He handed the sword to the Doctor, who examined it for a few seconds. Next to him, the Eds were all drooling at the sight of it. Then, the Doctor asked, "Is this made from a meteorite?"
"Uh huh. Wait, how did you know?"
"General texture of the blade, a certain feel when I hold it, things like that. You own a sword made out of a meteorite?"
"Uh huh. My teacher asked me to find a good metal so he could forge it. It just so happened this stuff crash landed near where we were staying the night before. I brought back some of the meteorite, and he forged this bad boy for me."
The Doctor nodded as he handed the sword back, an impressed look on his face. "Not bad."
Nearby, Star was twirling her wand, a large lollipop-shaped object with wings on its sides. "I thought I had lost you," she told it before explaining, "My mom gave me this wand on my birthday, and it's my job to protect this thing. And this bad boy's helped me out a lot already."
"So is that it?" Daxter asked. "Are we ready to stick it to that Collector guy and get out of here?"
"Almost," the Doctor said. "For starters, I think it's too risky to have this big of a group leave the brig at once to go after the Collector. We're gonna get jumbled and lost quickly. I think we need to divide up into groups. I think five groups of six oughta do it. Then, each group takes a different path. Some will head straight for the Collector, while others will serve another purpose."
"Good thing I picked these up too," Parker said, reaching into the bag and pulling out several walkie talkies. "There's five here, one for each group. Believe me, I didn't plan that."
"Brilliant," the Doctor said. "In that case, let's decide our groups and allons-y!"
Everyone gave him a weird look except Belle.
"He's saying 'let's go' in French," Belle quickly explained.
"Ohhhhhhh," everyone else said.
As the discussion for groups began, Eddy elbowed Double D. "How many people are here again?" he whispered.
"Thirty."
"And it seriously took thirty people before we finally scored one that can get us out of here? That's actually kinda sad."
"Hey, the thirtieth time's the charm, right?"
(Later…)
After deciding on the five groups, each group left the brig separately, each one meant to fulfill a certain part of the plan. Each group would eventually reach the Collector, but some of them had to fulfill their task first.
Group 1 was Scooby, Tess, Murdock, Johnny, Sokka, and Camillo. Deemed the wackiest group of the bunch and the first group out the door, they were tasked as the distraction: simply cause as much mayhem as possible and draw attention away from everyone else.
Group 2 consisted of Parker, Dipper, Chihiro, Cosmo, Star, and Bugs. They had been tasked with shutting off the security systems on the ship.
Group 3 was made up of the Eds, Gwen, Judy, and Elsa. They were headed straight for the bridge, where they assumed the Collector currently was.
Group 4 had MIrabel, Sam, Riley, Max, Jessica, and WALL-E. Probably the weakest group in terms of strength and powers, they were thus given the simplest task: finding the surveillance room, where they would call out all warnings to the other groups.
Finally, Group 5 consisted of the Doctor, Pearl, Daxter, Belle, Tigger, and Frankie. Similar to Group 2, they were gonna head straight for the Collector. As the last group to leave, they relocked the brig door behind them as they crept down the hallway.
(Group 1…)
Murdock leaned back against the wall, a crazed grin on his face.
"So, mayhem… I can't say I ever thought I would be following the orders of an alien limey. But hey, I guess that only means I don't understand this gosh darn world the way I thought. But he wants us to go nuts. And there's no one here who is better at that than me."
Scooby looked at him. "Reah?"
"Yeah."
"That's some pretty big talk," Tess warned. "I'm sure we all have the ability to wreck things, that's why we're in this group together. We definitely got the best task, I think."
"So what are we wrecking first?" Sokka asked.
Scooby then stood up on his hind legs and whispered something in Murdock's ear.
Murdock smiled again, appearing to like the idea. "Hmmm…"
…
That was how the group found themselves in the ship's cafeteria, watching in disgust and awe as Scooby inhaled every bit of food he could find in the pantries and fridges.
"You seriously wanted to make a pit stop for this?" Camillo asked.
"When you force a major glutton like Scooby to survive on just bread and water, it's only a matter of time before he breaks," said Tess. "Just be grateful we got the food into him now."
Sitting at a nearby chair with his legs on the adjacent table, Murdock chuckled and sipped the space wine he had found. "Eh. A dog eating chocolate and other stuff you shouldn't give to a dog, and said dog handling it like a champ? You have to admit, we've all seen weirder today alone."
Standing on Sokka's shoulder and munching on a chunk of cheese he had found, Johnny shrugged. "Can't argue with you there. But hey, I'm just rolling with it."
"Oh boy," Sokka moaned. "I hope this doesn't end badly for me."
(Group 2…)
Bugs inhaled deeply, then exhaled in pure satisfaction. "This rabbit ain't meant to be caged up with a bunch of other yahoos, ya hear? Oh, how amazing it feels to be out and about."
Parker jumped up in excitement. "EEEEH! We get to escape this crazy insane downer place, and stick it to the guy who captured us along the way. I've been wanting this so badly that I've been practicing my one-liner against the Collector the past two days. I'm kinda torn between 'You messed with the wrong thief' and 'We're the Collectors now, time to pay up'."
"Ooh, definitely the second one," Star said, nodding enthusiastically.
Cosmo seemed more reserved about the situation. "I hope I can be of use somehow. I'm not used to this kind of thing. This is a little…overwhelming for me."
Dipper patted her shoulder. "You'll be fine, Cosmo. I never had a doubt that we would eventually get out of here. Now, we have that chance."
"All thanks to a weird British alien," Chihiro pointed out.
"And you know what?" Dipper added. "We're not gonna let him down. Now let's find out how to shut down the security systems."
(Group 3…)
"I GOT TO MEET REAL ALIENS!"
"Ed, I know you're excited, but we still have a job to do," Double D warned. "We need to find where the Collector might be. Best guess? Probably the ship's bridge. That's usually where the captain is anyway."
Gwen looked around. "I wish we had a directory or something. It's a big ship, you're generally supposed to have one."
"Ha!" Eddy exclaimed. "Like we need a directory. I have a perfect sense of direction. All we have to do is take every left turn, and we'll make it."
"Isn't that for mazes?" Elsa asked.
"You're saying this isn't a maze?"
Double D rolled his eyes.
"Hey! I know where we're going."
"Then how come we've passed that same door three times now?" Double D asked, pointing at the door next to them.
Eddy looked at the door for several seconds, then groaned. "Trial and error, alright? You should know all about that, you're the smart one." He looked down one hallway. "The bridge is this way, guys."
"You know we already tried that path, right?" Judy asked. "And didn't it lead to a dead end?"
Eddy looked at her. "Well…maybe it won't this time…"
Sighing in frustration, Judy began walking again. "Maybe you should let someone with a bit of training in finding the right direction lead. I'm just saying. At least until we hear from Group 4."
With that, everyone began following Judy, Eddy grumbling behind her.
(Group 4…)
Pretty quickly, the group found the surveillance room. Just like the brig, two guards stood by either side of the door, guarding the room. That was before anyone they were gonna possibly find inside the room itself.
"Looks like we're not getting in without making their acquaintance," Sam said, poking his head around the corner to look at the guards.
"Any ideas?" Mirabel asked.
Jessica smiled. "Well, maybe we can send out one of us as bait. Obviously, WALL-E would be the obvious choice, since he can probably take it better than us. We can just send him out there, and-"
"Hey, I hate to interrupt the strategizing," Maz interrupted. "But I just took out the guards for us."
Shocked, the group looked to see the guards on the floor, knocked out. As they rushed to grab them and hide them in the nearest closet, they shared glances and let their jaws drop. Well, except Sam. He was used to it.
"What?" Max asked. "Ya never seen a cute wittle wabbit kicking so much ass before?"
"I live in a family where most of us have special powers, and that STILL surprised me," said Mirabel.
"Meh," Sam said.
Riley cracked the door open to see three crew members sitting in the surveillance room, all asleep. "I was wondering why they haven't spotted us yet. The Collector needs to hire a better crew."
Once the sleeping crew members were safely in the closet, the group were safely able to check out the camera feeds without hindrance. Sam pulled the walkie-talkie out of his pocket and turned it on.
"This is Group 4. We're in the surveillance room. Anybody copy?"
(Group 5…)
"Good job, guys," the Doctor said into his group's walkie-talkie. "You guys stay there and call everything. Guards, directions, all of it. When we're ready, we'll call for you."
He put the walkie-talkie back into his coat pocket, then faced the other. "We finally have our eyes in the sky," he told them.
"I hope we can get to the Collector soon," Daxter said. "Do you have any idea what it's like being stuck in one room with all you yahoos the past few weeks?"
"Gee, thanks," Frankie said sarcastically.
Behind them, Tigger was bouncing up a storm down the hallway. "Tigger, can you keep it down?" Belle asked. "We're trying to keep a low profile."
"I know, but I haven't been this happy in weeks. YIPPEE! I feel so free!"
"I do believe that's the general idea," Pearl said.
The Doctor chuckled despite himself. 'Where did the Collector find these people?'
Just then, Bugs' voice rang out through the walkie-talkie. "Doctor, it's Bugs. We have a problem!"
The Doctor pulled the device back out of his pocket. "What is it, Bugs?"
(Group 2…)
""Uh, Doc? There might be a teeny little problem getting to the door into the main engine room."
"What's that?"
Dipper snatched the device from Bugs' hand. "Because the hallway that leads to the door has a laser field!"
Indeed, the hallway was lined with several pink lasers, all bouncing off the surfaces and creating a veritable maze.
"Are they 'detect you when you break them' laser beams? Or 'slice you in half' laser beams?"
Dipper gulped. "Both."
The other end of the line was silent for a moment, until the group heard the Doctor say, "Okay, that IS serious."
Parker smiled, looking at the laser field. "Not a problem. Leave this one to me."
"Are you sure?" Cosmo asked.
"Please, this is second nature to me."
(Group 4…)
Sam was looking at the monitors, examining Group 2's location. "Parker, I see a panel where you might be able to deactivate the lasers. But it's on the other side of the hallway."
(Group 2…)
"Wait, how are you gonna get across?" Dipper asked the thief.
Parker gave him a mischievous grin as she stretched. "Kid, I'm a thief. I've been breaking into and escaping from stuff since I was a kid. Dodging high tech security systems to get the goods is what I live for."
Once she was done stretching, she turned to face the lasers. "Alrighty, guys. Watch and learn."
With a skillful leap, she front-flipped into the lasers, landing on her hands with poise. Her grin now bigger, she then executed several more flips and somersaults as she swiftly avoided the lasers. The rest of her group watched in awe; Dipper, Cosmo, Chihiro, and Star let their jaws hang in surprise, while Bug took out a bundle of carrots and began munching on them while he watched the spectacle, eating them as if they were popcorn.
Before long, Parker had reached the end of the hallway. Her smile still wide on her face, she opened the panel and flipped the switch. Instantly, the lasers shut off. She beheld her group's shocked faces with satisfaction.
"Piece of cake," she said as she skipped into the engine room.
Amongst the group, Star finally broke the silence. "Woah…"
"She did something amazing, didn't she?" the Doctor asked through the walkie-talkie.
"Yeah," Chihiro replied into the device, her voice squeaking a little.
"Come on, you slow pokes! Time's a' wastin'!"
Parker's shout broke everyone out of their daze, and they followed her into the engine room
(Group 3…)
"Jackpot!" Eddy exclaimed, having stumbled upon a room filled with treasure: gold coins, trophies, jewels, etc.
"Eddy, there's no time!" Double D exclaimed. "We have to keep moving."
His friend didn't listen as he beheld the bounty in front of him. Sighing, Gwen and Double D began pulling him away from the room.
"Oh, come on. Five more minutes? Please?"
Double D shook his head. "Eddy, no."
Eddy's hands gripped the frame for dear life. "But it's treasure!"
"We have a job to do!"
"No, leave me here!"
Finally, Gwen and Double D pulled Eddy off the doorframe and promptly dragged him, moaning with sadness, from the room.
"Don't worry, my babies. Daddy will come back for youuuuuuu!" he cried out
A couple minutes later, the group approached a large, red door.
"You guys think this is it?" Judy asked.
"Gee, I wonder what else this giant stinkin' door could possibly be," Eddy said sarcastically.
Elsa reached out to the handle to open the door, but found to her dismay that it wouldn't open.
"Locked," she said.
The group looked through the small window on the door, trying to make out the Collector inside. However, they couldn't spot a single person within the bridge. Eddy began pounding on the door with all his might.
"Hey! Collector guy! Open up!"
Judy spotted a card scanner on the side of the door. "Shoot. Any idea where the nearest crew member might be?"
"Finally, we get to punch out an alien," Eddy said. "Count me in."
Ed grinned. "More aliens
(Group 5…)
"So, Frankie, you said you take care of…imaginary friends?" the Doctor asked.
Frankie nodded. "Where I come from, imaginary friends are real, and they come to life when someone, usually a child, imagines them into existence. But just like everywhere else, the kids who create them one day have to give them up. So my grandma, Madame Foster, founded Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends. It's a foster home (and yes, I get the name synergy and stuff) where we take in imaginary friends and give them a place to live until they're adopted by another kid willing to give them a home."
"That's…really noble of your grandmother to do so. Pardon me for asking, but is she still around?"
"Yep. And honestly still fit for her age. She's also one of the few who never really gave up her imaginary friend. Speaking of whom, Mr. Herriman handles business affairs at the house. Imagine a cross between a rabbit and a butler, and you get Mr. Herriman."
The Doctor's eyes widened. "A rabbit butler?"
"Yeah, but don't call him a butler. And if you ever meet him, be careful he doesn't drive you nuts. He once gathered the whole house to give everyone a lecture on why every single picture frame on our walls must always be realigned if they're crooked. That's the stingy stick-in-the-mud we're talking about here.
"And don't even get me started on my own job. I'm the primary caregiver for everyone in the house. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy my job most of the time. But I never really have a lot of free time, and it was only recently that Mr. Herriman actually started to realize how much I do around the house. After a recent adventure involving a trunk, we've managed to come to an understanding, and I've been getting a lot more help with the chores than I used to. Still, it's never completely easy, especially with some of the troublemakers."
"I'll bet."
The Doctor looked down to face Daxter, who was walking next to him. "So what's your story?"
"Me? Oh, nothing major. I used to be human, but my buddy Jak and I snuck off to the Forbidden Misty Island, and I got turned into an ottsel. We went on a quest to try and fix it, but eventually, I decided I kinda like the look. Tess is amazing. We fell for each other, and she became an ottsel for me. As for Jak and I, we still travel together and kick butt. Or he does. I provide the humor that keeps us sane."
"Of course, there always has to be some humor in every adventure. Otherwise, you'll just go mad from it all." Granted, there was such a thing as TOO much humor sometimes, as the Doctor had seen.
(Group 1…)
"Take that, Collector!" Murdock ranted as he trashed his way around the ship's rec room. He took a chair and threw it against the wall, denting it.
"You know we're still in space, right?" Sokka asked.
"Don't care!" the pilot exclaimed as he smashed the room's TV screen.
"Why am I not surprised that this place still somehow has TV?" Tess asked.
After a few minutes of the rest of the group watching Murdock's cathartic tirade, Murdock collapsed into a chair, tired but satisfied.
"Feel better?" Johnny asked.
"Yeah. That felt good."
With the latest step in causing mayhem now complete, the group left the rec room to find their next mark. However, as they rounded a corner, Sokka pulled everyone back to avoid being spotted by two crewmembers walking down the hallway.
With the latest step in causing mayhem now complete, the group left the rec room to find their next mark. However, as they rounded a corner, Sokka pulled everyone back to avoid being spotted by two crewmembers walking down the hallway.
"Ruh roh," Scooby whispered.
Poking their heads around the corner, they saw the two crewmembers stop and lean against the wall, engaging in conversation.
"Great, they could be there for days," Camillo complained.
"Well, at least they don't see us," Sokka quipped, trying to bring levity to the situation. Everyone glared at him.
Sokka groaned and said, "Well excuse me for trying to keep us calm. That's important right now. Keeping calm."
"Have you forgotten who you're talking to?" Murdock asked. "I'm a military pilot. Pretty sure 'keeping calm' is part of the job."
"Dude, you literally trashed the rec room just for the fun of it not five minutes ago," Tess pointed out.
"It's a selective calmness. And I just didn't feel like using it back there."
"Clearly."
Murdock laughed. "You think I can't be calm? I've seen some messed-up things that none of you would be able to comprehend with your teeny little minds."
"Uh, I only recently helped end a century-long war spanning an entire planet," Sokka said.
"Does your home have ottsels?" Tess asked.
"Or a family with special powers?" Camillo continued.
"Or talking dogs and rats?" Jimmy asked, referring to himself and Scooby.
Murdock could hardly believe it. The rest of the group had one-upped him. "Well…I'm still a pilot. Ha!"
Tess looked past Murdock's shoulder. "Uh, Murdock?"
"What? Gonna show me up again?"
"Look behind you."
Murdock turned around and bumped right into the two crewmembers, having been led to the group by their arguing. Johnny sighed. "Of course. Sokka, you owe me five bucks. I told you we couldn't make it through without being spotted."
"Hold on, I got this," Murdock said, looking at the crew. "Hey there. Listen, you probably heard this from me earlier, but I have a certain talent with flying aircraft. Spacecraft? No different, really. I would very much like to look at your bridge and cockpit, actually. Surely you wouldn't let down an aviation enthusiast onboard a ship like this, would you?"
The two crewmembers stared blankly at the pilot for several seconds as Murdock gave his best (and very bad) good-natured grin. Then, one of the crewmembers brought his watch communicator to his face.
"Guards? Some of the prisoners escaped." He looked back at the group. "All of you, hands up! Now!"
The group raised the hands into the air as several guards came rushing in from the hallways and surrounded them. Sokka turned his head in every direction, his composure failing as Scooby began shaking next to him.
Sokka tried to smile. "We have…to remain…calm…"
Scooby kept shaking and eventually screamed.
"CALM, SCOOBY-DOO! YOU"RE NOT BEING CALM!"
In response, Scooby took his paw and slapped Sokka in the face.
"I needed that."
SLAP!
"I needed that too."
PUNCH!
"You're pushing your luck, Scoob!"
A terrified Scooby then barrelled past the guards and rushed down the hallway. The others took the chance while the guards were knocked down and ran off after him.
"Why does it have to be us that runs into trouble?" Johnny asked, looking behind him as the guards began to give chase.
"I don't know, but we better call for backup," Camillo warned.
(Group 5…)
"Everyone!" Sokka screamed. "We've been spotted, there are guards chasing us. We need backup!"
"How many are there?" the Doctor asked into the walkie-talkie.
"At least ten, we think," Camillo answered.
The Doctor sighed. Already, some of his friends were in danger. The cycle continued. "Alright, where are you guys now?"
"We don't know, we're too busy running for our lives!" Tess exclaimed.
Daxter gasped. "Tess!"
(Group 4…)
"We're watching the chase now," Sam said via his group's device. "They're on the upper level, looks like they just ran past the door to the bridge."
(Group 5…)
"Hold on, Tess! I'm coming!"
Within seconds, Daxter was suddenly pushing his entire group against each other, their feet skidding on the floor as he (surprisingly fast for a guy his size) pushed them all down the hallway.
"Would you slow down please?" Belle asked.
"Fat chance!"
"We're on our way," the Doctor said into the walkie-talkie, amazingly calm for a guy being pushed down a hallway and sandwiched between a stuffed tiger and a Gem. "Don't leave that floor. And Sam, don't lose them."
"Gotcha," Sam said as the line shut off.
"Anyone else want to point out that we're getting dragged by an ottsel, or whatever he is?" Pearl asked.
Frankie laughed. "This is just Tuesday for me."
Tigger was having the time of his life. "WHEEEEEEEE! DAXTER, YOU SHOULD COMBINE THIS WITH BOUNCIN'!"
"Please don't," Belle pleaded.
(Group 3…)
"I'm glad they didn't send ALL the guards over there," Eddy said with a laugh as he retrieved the key card from the guard Ed had just knocked out.
As the group turned, Elsa suddenly pushed them all back to avoid the stampede that was Group 1 running for their lives, and the guards in pursuit. Thankfully, the guards were too focused on the group they were chasing to worry about the group they had just run past.
"Okay, steering clear of that," said Gwen.
"Except we're still on the same floor that the bridge is on," Judy stated.
Just then, another group came down the hallway: Group 5. "Where is she?" Daxter asked as he pushed the rest of the group in front of him.
Group 3 all pointed down the hallway in the direction the stampede had gone, all while trying hard not to laugh at the sight before them.
"Thanks," Daxter said as he ran off, still pushing the others in his group.
(Group 1…)
"Do these guys ever get tired?" Tess asked. "We've been running for ages."
"How should we know?" Johnny asked as they turned down another hallway. However, the group's eyes widened with horror as the hallway turned out to be a dead end. They stopped at the end of it, then turned to face the guards.
"End of the line, prisoners," one of the guards said. "Hands up, get down on the ground."
"So, which one of us are we sacrificing first?" Murdock joked, earning a bunch of stares from everyone else.
The group didn't even have the chance to follow the guard's demands when suddenly, Tigger jumped up from behind the squad and landed feet first on the guard in question, knocking him down. "Woo-ho-ho!" Tigger laughed.
Some of the other guards pointed their guns at the tiger and pulled the trigger, but found their guns had been mysteriously jammed.
"It's not firing!" a guard exclaimed. "Why isn't it firing?"
Then the Doctor's voice rang out. "Oh, that's my bad," he said with a cheeky grin, sonic screwdriver in hand. "Not a real big fan of guns. But I AM a big fan of surprises, like this one: Frankie, Belle, now!"
Frankie and Belle quickly jumped up onto two guards' backs and held them still, giving Tigger time to bounce on them and knock them out. Pearl and Daxter then joined Group 1 to help take out the rest of them.
What followed was a crazy scuffle between the guards and the Doctor's new friends. Since they were close range, Sokka used his sword to defend against their batons before using the handle to knock them out. Pearl blasted them with shots from her spear, also knocking them out, while Murdock resorted to good-old-fashioned fisticuffs. Camillo used his shift ability to turn into one of the guards, confusing them and allowing the others to take them out. Tess and Daxter rode on Scooby's back like a horse as he barrelled through the guards, all while he screamed in fear.
Soon, the entire squad of guards had been knocked out, giving everyone else time to breathe.
"Is everyone alright?" Pearl asked.
"Couldn't be better," Sokka said proudly.
Murdock shrugged. "I could've taken out the whole group with my eyes closed."
"Uh huh, sure," said Camillo.
"I don't think that was every guard," the Doctor explained. "But we've thinned it down. Maybe a little too much. Something just seemed too perfect about this."
"Now that I think of it, we haven't seen any guard before this," Belle said.
"Exactly. They might be trying to catch us off guard."
"Well, any ideas?" Johnny asked. "You're the genius here."
The Doctor thought for a moment. "We need to get everyone else together, for starters. Safety in numbers."
He pulled out the walkie-talkie and began, "Everyone, it's the Doctor. Groups 1 and 5 are close to the bridge. We need everyone up here to join us."
"Funny you should say that," Double D answered back. "Because we have a key card to get in. Although I guess if you're nearby with the sonic screwdriver, it doesn't matter anymore."
"No, hold onto it. You might need it later." He turned to look at the others with him. "Well, what are you waiting for? Allons-y!"
He ran off down the hallway, leaving the others to follow. "Does he just like that phrase?" Sokka asked, confused.
(Later…)
"So you said you looked through the window and couldn't spot anyone?" Belle asked as the whole group came together outside the bridge, while the Doctor set to work on the lock.
"I would've thought somebody would be in there," said Judy. "Normally, the ship's bridge should have at least a few people manning it. So why would the bridge here not have anybody?"
Dipper shrugged, "Maybe they sent everyone they could when they learned we escaped."
"Or it could be a trap," the Doctor said before turning his head to look at the group. "I doubt he was just going to leave us to the guards once he found out we broke out of the brig. This just seems too perfect."
"So then why are we still opening up the bridge door?" Pearl asked. "Pretty sure that's where the trap is."
The sonic screwdriver successfully unlocked the door as the Doctor smiled. "I am far too curious to see where this leads us."
Pearl stared at him, exasperated. "That's not the kind of outlook I would have if I were leading thirty people directly into a trap. You're CURIOUS? How about the rest of us?"
"Do you have a better plan, Pearl?" the Doctor asked. "If we don't get into the bridge, we might never be able to escape, nor can we stop the Collector's schemes."
"So you're just gonna bumble in there without a second thought?"
"Yep. Take it or leave it."
"But-"
"You heard me, Pearl."
"But Doctor-"
Suddenly, the Doctor turned to look straight at Pearl, his eyes filled with intensity.
"I already promised I would get all of us safely out of here. You know who I am, Pearl. You know what I went through, what my people went through. Nobody else in this universe should ever have to suffer the same fate. Do you honestly believe I would let anything like that happen again, much less to all of you? I said I would get us all out, and that's what I'm going to do, no matter how many "traps" I have to get through to do it."
He stepped aside, allowing for the door to be opened. "After you."
Pearl stared at him in silence before nodding and opening the door. The Doctor, looking satisfied, followed after her. The rest of the group, all silent, followed him in one at a time.
Soon, everyone was standing on the ship's bridge, surrounded by the various unfamiliar controls. The Doctor looked at the group. "We need a few people on lookout, in case the Collector or anyone else shows up."
Murdock, Parker, and Ed all nodded and went to stand by the door, while everyone else began searching the room. Visually, it looked just like the ideal command center for your average spaceship. The controls were the same red and gold that had lined the walls of the rest of the ship, with a gold colored steering mechanism. Looking through the large window, the group saw that they were currently orbiting a small planet with many mountains and canyons. In the background, nothing but millions of stars amongst the dark void of Outer Space. Needless to say, most of the group were in complete awe.
In particular, the kids in the group couldn't get enough of the sight. "Incredible," Double D whispered. "So many pictures, every book I've read about Space, it all just doesn't compare to the real thing."
"Doctor, what part of space are we in?" Chihiro asked, jumping up in excitement.
The Doctor smiled at her. "Based on that planet down there, and what I'm seeing on the instruments in here, we're currently tucked away in the Nordanus Galaxy. Millions of light-years away from Earth."
The Earthlings in the group let their jaws hang slightly.
"And the planet down there?" Dipper asked.
"Sejanus. Same atmosphere as Earth, but largely uninhabited."
Riley leaned forward as far as she could towards the window. "You know what's crazy?" she asked, mainly addressing the kids in the group. "We all get to say we've actually gone to Space. What other kid gets to say that, huh?"
(Inside Reilly's mind…)
Riley's group of Emotions watched Riley's view of the planet below from the Headquarters inside her brain. All of them were just as in awe as the group outside her mind at the moment, none of them saying a word. Joy had a huge smile on her face as she beheld it. Sadness gave a small smile of her own while wiping away a few tears with a tissue. Anger nodded his head in approval. Fear, slightly hiding behind Anger, took a peek that left his mouth agape. And Disgust didn't really have much to say against it.
Nearby, a memory orb was created, which quickly changed into a new core memory.
(Back outside…)
At this point, all of the kids were fixated on the view through the window. The Doctor, fascinated by this, watched them with a small grin.
'Looking at them, I think these kids are probably the strongest in this whole group. I would think the experiences they've had on this ship would break any normal child. But these kids? They're unbreakable. They remind me of Susan a little…"
Frankie waved her hand across the Doctor's face. "Hey! Earth to Doctor!"
The Doctor shook his head as his mind was brought back to the group. Nodding, he spoke to the group as a whole.
"Alright, we've been looking out there long enough. We need to get back to the task at hand and find the Collector. Everyone, start searching. Drawers, shelves, go crazy."
The adults immediately set to work, while the kids all groaned at having to stop just admiring the view before they began searching as well.
'At least I know they're still kids.'
"So what exactly are we looking for here?" Mirabel asked.
"Anything that might tell us where the Collector is," the Doctor said, scanning the room with his screwdriver. "Maybe a bit on why he's collecting people like us from across time and space."
Sam looked around, shaking his head. "You know, for a spaceship bridge, I was kinda expecting something out of Star Trek."
"Meh, you and I both know Star Wars is better," Max retorted.
Some members of the group were searching through the various drawers, containing various files.
"Ugh, another vacation report," Sokka moaned. "I don't know about the rest of you, but I really don't want to hear about that trip that Guard…" He looked at the file again. "...Guard #52 took on this random planet called…" He checked the file. "Skateeno."
"His vacation would've been awful," the Doctor commented. "Skateeno's hotels are among the lowest-rated in the universe."
Sokka let out a small laugh, then went back to the files before turning his attention to a series of books. Then one of them caught his eye when he spotted the label and read it aloud.
"'Collection History and Plan'"
He looked at the Doctor. "Hey, Doc? I think I found something."
"Another vacation report?"
"Nope."
Sokka handed the file to the Doctor, who put on a pair of glasses from his pocket. Opening the book up to a random page, the first thing he saw was a picture of a short alien resembling something between a squid, a worm, and a Daddy Longlegs.
"That thing looks like those worm guys from Men in Black," Frankie said, looking over the Doctor's shoulder.
"That's exactly what those are." Reading the report, the Doctor nodded. "Just as I suspected. We weren't the first people the Collector has targeted."
"I'm surprised we didn't see one of their species here,"
Johnny shuddered upon hearing this. "And I was starting to really feel special. I wonder who else this clown has captured.
The Doctor flipped through several more pages of the book, catching glimpses of several species he recognized. However, his blood went cold the instant he spotted a picture with a red X slashed across it.
"Are you okay?" Belle asked, noticing the Doctor's rigid expression.
The Doctor took a moment to answer. "I know…not everyone here is an adult…hasn't watched many movies outside of kids' movies…"
Sokka shook his head, realizing where the Doctor was going with this. "No, you're not keeping this from any of us."
"It's not pretty."
"Doc, we've already had to sit in a brig for up to a month and fight off those guards ourselves," Eddy pointed out. "It's already too late."
Conceding the point, the Doctor returned to the page he was on as he began to explain. "Each picture is of the specific specimen that the Collector has taken. The one I'm on now is from Krylon-80. But it says here that he and some other prisoners tried to flee. When they were caught…this poor boy and the others in the group were all ejected into space."
Everyone gasped.
"It gets worse. According to the report…Jessica, how old are you?"
Jessica raised her eyebrow. "Weird. But I just turned seven."
"Just as I thought. Comparing the years of his planet to those on Earth, he was no older than 7 when he was killed."
Silence filled the room as the group digested the information.
"Just a boy, and the Collector killed him," Pearl whispered.
Still in shock from the latest revelation, the Doctor continued to flip through the pages. And the story only got worse from there as he and the others discovered more of what the Collector had been doing to his captives: torture. The Collector would apparently torture his prisoners into either submission or death. Some beings were subjected to electric shocks. Others were nearly drowned when they disobeyed as a lesson to them and the other prisoners. One poor woman from a planet only a million miles away had bled to death after being subjected to days of torture just because she had tried to steal extra food.
Before long, everyone had been stunned into silence from hearing of the atrocities the Collector had committed. Even Murdock was unnerved.
"I will admit I'm not the most stable person in the universe," Murdock muttered. "But this guy? He takes it to a whole new level."
"And sadly, he's tame compared to what I've seen," the Doctor added.
"But why?" Sam asked. "Why harm all these innocent people?"
To find the answer, the Doctor returned to the beginning of the book, where he found just what he was looking for.
Project: Menagerie
Planet: Sejanus
Goal: At least one of every species in the universe
Mission: To start the universe's largest zoo, containing one of every species, where the great figures of space can come and see the wonders of the universe all on one planet. Come one, come all, to the Collector's Universal Zoo of Wonders!
"A zoo?" Star asked. "Laaaaaame!"
"He calls himself a collector," Bugs said, munching on another carrot, though this time with anger. "But ya know, I think the better term for this guy would be 'poacher'."
"He's literally thrown lives away just so he can start up some kind of zoo?" Mirabel asked.
The Doctor nodded. "He captured all of us so that we could be part of his little tourist attraction."
Just then, the window blacked out, becoming a screen as the camera feed turned on to show the Collector giving a sinister grin.
"Tourist attraction? Oh, nothing so bland as that. Merely a family-friendly place where you can see the universe on a single planet."
Everyone turned around to watch the screen as the Collector began to clap slowly.
"Bravo, ladies and gentlemen. I'm genuinely quite impressed that you managed to escape the brig and make it this far. But then again, with someone like the Doctor on your side, I suppose that was never considered a challenge."
"I assume you're the Collector?" the Doctor asked.
The Collector grinned evilly. "Correct. I don't need to guess in order to know who you are, however. You're the Doctor. The last of the Time Lords. I must admit, it is a pleasure to be speaking to you now. You see, I am a rather big fan of your work, and tales of your exploits were always my favorite growing up. So when I spotted your TARDIS floating in the middle of space, I knew I needed you in my collection. The last of your kind, the famed wanderer of space and time. How could I possibly resist such a prize?"
"Yeah, we know what you've been doing with your so-called 'prizes'," Sam said, holding up the book.
"How long have you been doing this?" the Doctor asked.
The Collector shrugged. "A long time now, Doctor. It's hard to say. You see, I've been fascinated with the vast diversity of the universe for as long as I can remember. So many glorious species, all from different walks of life. Even as a child, I knew I wanted to find a way to bring them all together. And now, I have that chance. Beings from across the universe, in the palm of my hand."
"So you ripped people from their homes just for some childhood ambition to run a zoo?" Riley asked in disbelief. "Dude, you're sick."
"Am I really? For truly, what harm is there in fulfilling one's childhood ambitions to run a zoo? What harm is there in collecting the species, many of whom are in a constant struggle for survival on their own planets, and providing for them with food, shelter, and happiness?"
Pearl gave a sarcastic laugh. "Happiness?" Sam handed the book to her. "We read your little report here. There wasn't a single species in here that neither the Doctor nor I recognized. Nearly all of them are peaceful. The people you captured, they wouldn't have harmed a fly. And you went and took their lives away from them!"
"I provided them food! Homes! Safety!"
"You killed them!" Camillo exclaimed.
Near the back of the group, Sokka and Bugs were trying to restrain a fuming Murdock as he struggled to reach the screen. "When I find you, I'm gonna tear you apart and use your blood to water my flowers! Think of the most excruciating pain you've ever experienced, and then multiply it by cancer. Yeah, that's what I'm gonna do to ya!"
"Seriously, what happened to you in Vietnam, man?" Max asked.
Murdock glared at him. "Everything."
"And everyone says I have issues?"
Parker shrugged before saying casually, "I'm gonna be honest, I was about two seconds away from making the same rant. But Murdock beat me to it."
"There's something wrong with you two," Judy said as she looked at Parker and Murdock.
The Doctor ignored the bickering behind him. "Don't you realize what you're doing?" he asked. "You said you provided new homes and safety? Tell me, where does all of the torture fit into that?"
The Collector shrugged. "Sometimes, I must do what is necessary to rein in my collection when they get a bit…unruly. So what if my methods of discipline are a bit…dodgy? It is all in the name of keeping the collection safe and ready for when my zoo opens on the planet below."
But the Doctor had heard enough. He let his sonic screwdriver fall out of his sleeve before catching it in his hand.
"Let everyone go. Now."
"Or what?"
"Don't test me. You know what I'm capable of. Otherwise, you'd be here in person instead of hiding behind your little camera feed."
The Collector laughed. "Are you saying I'm scared of you?"
The Doctor smirked. "You said it, not me."
But the Collector kept laughing as everyone's attention returned to the screen. "You know, as intelligent as you claim to be, you seem to have missed something important."
Suddenly, the Doctor realized, then looked back at the group. "Everyone to the door." But just then, the exit then slammed shut, trapping the group inside.
"You see," the Collector said, holding up a small remorse with a single button, "what makes any of you think that after you learned the secrets of my collection, I would just let a single one of you live? If I wanted to let you live, I wouldn't have left the book in the bridge."
"You left it here as a trap for us," the Doctor confirmed.
"Correct, Doctor. And I must say, this is my favorite trap. You and your friends weren't the first of my collection to make it this far. And I already can't wait for the next person to do so."
With that, he pressed the button.
Suddenly, several side panel on the walls opened up, revealing several small closets with a number of different aliens nestled inside each one. Each alien climbed out and began walking slowly toward the group. WALL-E began shaking in fear, while Daxter and Tess held hands.
"Of course, I was gonna have the rest of my collection on the ship," the Collector explained. "I'm not a fool."
Double D noticed each alien was wearing an ankle bracelet with a beeping red light. "Are those control devices?"
"Well, I suppose I decided that mind control was a lot less messy than torture," the Collector admitted.
Then he addressed the aliens under his control. "Kill them however you wish. Their planets all still have many other specimens to choose from. Their deaths will be of no consequence. But leave the Doctor alive. He is too valuable a prize to lose."
As the mind-controlled army neared closer to the group, Scooby suddenly screamed in sheer terror, before bolting away from the group and right through the sealed door, smashing a Scooby-shaped hole right through the metal without even so much as breaking stride.
"Why didn't he do that in the brig?" Daxter asked in exasperation.
The army continued to get closer, and the Doctor looked at the group. "Don't worry, I have a plan."
"Really?" Cosmo asked hopefully. "What?"
"Just this!" the Doctor said as he ran through the Scooby hole and out into the hallway.
"Wow, great plan," Daxter said, not even bothering to hide the sarcasm.
"Well come on!"
Everyone began running through the hole as fast as they could until they were in the hallway, where they continued running..
In the bridge, the Collector on screen huffed in frustration before opening the door remotely.
"After them! Kill the others, but bring the Doctor to me alive!"
The army ran out into the hallway as the screen shut off and was turned back into a window.
(In the hallway…)
"THIS is your plan?" Pearl asked the Doctor in shock as the group ran away from the Collector's army. "Just running for the hills?"
"Believe it or not, it works a whole lot better than at first glance!"
"Yeah, it's working like a charm right now!"
"I sometimes add other details. Like this one." The Doctor looked at the rest of the group. "Everyone split up! Confuse the army. Doesn't matter who you go with, just go!"
Realizing what he was asking, the group immediately began splintering off as they ran down separate hallways. Soon, it was only the Doctor running straight down the central hallway, or so he thought. Little did he know, Frankie remained right behind him.
(Montage Time!)
Star and Elsa turned one corner as fast as they could, trying to outrun the two rather muscular brainwashed aliens pursuing them. Elsa looked behind her and noticed that their pursuers were gaining on them.
"We just had to get the buff ones," Star complained. "What do we do?"
Elsa smiled. "We have our powers back, remember? Let's use them."
With that, she turned around and shot out a blast of ice and snow from her hands onto the floor behind her, creating a slick surface. One of the chasers quickly ran into it and began sliding down the hallway, crashing headfirst into a wall and creating a giant hole. The other chaser, however, had avoided the ice and was still gaining on the girls.
"My turn," Star cheered, readying her wand. "Cupcake Blast!"
A stream of concussive cupcakes fired out of Star's wand, hitting the second chaser right in the face with a powerful force, strong enough to launch him off his feet and back across the hallway, crashing into another wall. Elsa and Star paused their run to witness the sight, with Star hugging her wand fondly.
"Oh, how I missed you."
"Not bad, Star," Elsa said.
"Thanks, you too." They high-fived and continued running.
…
"The Collector CAN'T be serious!" Max exclaimed.
Bugs, Judy, and Max couldn't believe what they were being chased by. The alien looked just like Elmer Fudd! Gun and everything. The only differences were that he had an even bigger chin, and a few scales on his skin.
"I'm huntin' wabbit!"
"You okay, Bugs?" Judy asked.
"Gettin' some major traumatic flashbacks here!"
"Come on, Bugs. You're a toon!"
"I know. Time to prove it."
Bugs pulled out a carrot from out of nowhere. Then, just like a dart, he threw it into the barrel of the chaser's gun right as he pulled the trigger.
BOOM!
A classic flash of light and a smoke cloud erupted as the gun exploded. When it did, the chaser was covered in black soot, holding a gun that had been peeled from the tip of the barrel like a banana.
"I have always wanted to see that happen!" Max cheered, cackling loudly as the rabbits continued to run.
However, Elmer Fudd soon recovered. Within moments, he was on their tail again. However, the rabbits came across a hallway of paintings.
"I have an idea," Max said, suddenly pulling his friends toward one of the paintings. In the blink of an eye, the three were suddenly transported inside the painting, with Elmer Fudd jumping in after them.
The painting they ended up in was done in a Surreal style, which soon showed when their running suddenly became very slow.
"This…is…new…," Judy tried to say despite the painting slowing her speech.
…
Scooby, Daxter, Tess, Sokka, Pearl, and Riley were being chased by a particularly scary-looking alien prisoner-one that looked very familiar to Scooby. They looked like a disguise he had helped thwart before.
"Oh yeah, didn't you say you met some crooks who posed as aliens to defend a gold mine?" Daxter asked Scooby as they ran.
(TMK's Note: See Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders)
"Reah! Rhey were crazy!"
"Can't there ever be an actually nice alien?" Sokka moaned.
"Hey!" Pearl exclaimed.
"Sorry."
The tree creature continued to chase them through a long hallway with several door on either wall. Lo and behold, this led to the classic gag where Scooby and friends are all over a hallway, going in through one door and coming out through another. That gag. This continued until Tess jumped out of a door and smacked the tree in the face with a bat, knocking the tree creature to the ground.
"Nice one, Tess!' Riley cheered.
"That's my girl!" Daxter yelled.
…
Murdock and Parker were being chased down by a mixed group of the brainwashed alien prisoners, all armed with various weapons.
"I'm gonna have you all arrested for stalking!" Parker shouted at the pursuers.
Just then, as Murdock and Parker ran into another hallway, they found it to be a dead end with a single door at that end. The two ran to the door as fast as they could, and Murdock kicked the door open, letting the two run right into the room and slam the door into the enemies' faces.
But that wasn't the end of it, because five minutes later, the door opened again. Murdock and Parker were now armed with a few weapons they picked up while in that room. While not quite different from the weapons the group had, the difference was the wild look in their eyes, the kind of look that said one thing plain to the aliens chasing them.
Try it. I dare you.
Suddenly, the tables were turned. The pursuers suddenly ran off, back down the hallway as Murdock and Parker began chasing them down in turn. The pursuers were now the pursued.
Watching the events from the safe room, the Collector's eye twitched has his brainwashed forces were now being the ones chased themselves.
…
With a new gun that appeared out of nowhere, Elmer Fudd followed the rabbits into another painting, where he spotted a parent wheeling their infant in a carriage. Elmer opened the carriage's cover, suspecting a trap. All he found was an adorable infant rabbit.
"Shhhh!"
Elmer was already taken. "Awww."
Just then, the infant began to cry. "WAAAAAH!" Before Fudd could comprehend, the infant, now revealed to be Bugs in disguise, bit his nose off while Jody quickly grabbed Fudd and put him in an arm lock.
"You done?" Max asked, smirking.
Elmer Fudd nodded, terrified, as the rabbits jumped out of the painting. Bugs then lifted the painting off its hook, turned it around, and hung it on the wall backwards, trapping Elmer inside.
"Not bad for a few 'wascally wabbits'," Bugs joked before looking right at the fourth wall and eating another carrot.
"Guess Doctor Who fanfics can include slapstick too. And more than one master of the fourth wall."
…
The Eds, Mirabel, Camillo, Jessica, Gwen, Chihiro, and Dipper were all in one large group as they evaded the equally large group pursuing them, with Ed also carrying WALL-E. Ed was also the one freaking out the most.
"TROUBLE! BAD! BIG!"
At that point, he suddenly lifted up every single one of the other kids in his group and carried them down the hallway, all without even so much as breaking stride or losing speed.
"How is he doing this?" Jessica asked.
"Lumpy's lifted trees before," Eddy said as a matter-of-fact. "Roots and all."
Mirabel laughed. "I should introduce you to my sister."
Just then, Double D noticed Ed approach the same room full of treasure that had distracted Eddy earlier. "Hey Ed, can we get some ammunition please?"
Ed burst through the door and set everyone down, letting everyone grab certain heavy objects in the room to throw at their pursuers. Quickly, the onslaught began as vases, bags of money, and other heavy valuable items were thrown at the brainwashed group, slowing down until they all began slipping off the loot or hitting their heads, eventually leading to them all being knocked out cold.
"That was amazing!" Chihiro cheered.
Double D smiled. "Let's go, everyone," he said before turning his attention to Eddy, who was once again trying to stuff his pockets with the treasure.
"Eddy, the Collector likely stole all of that. Put it down!"
Eddy sighed and turned out his pockets, letting the coins roll out.
"All of it," Double D ordered.
Reluctantly, Eddy shook his legs until more coins fell out of his pant legs.
"Thank you," Double D said. "Now let's go."
…
Seeing his own collection get taken down by a ragtag group of kids and weirdos made the Collector livid. On one feed, he had spotted Cosmo and Johnny smash a vase right on an enemy's face. On another, Belle had managed to trap an enemy and lock him inside a closet.
And the Collector was furious at it all.
"Why is it always so hard to find good help these days?" he complained. "I can't rely on these idiots even when they literally have no choice but to do what I say. Guess I have to take matters into my own hands."
(Meanwhile…)
"Frankie, I thought I told you and the others to split off and distract the prisoners."
"Honestly, I'm surprised you didn't realize I was following you sooner."
The Doctor sighed. "The Collector will NOT show us any mercy when I find him, and will likely use you in some way to get me to surrender. You need to head back to the others."
"Fat chance, Doc," Frankie responded. "I'm not leaving you to handle this by yourself. What if you need backup?"
"Well, what if I don't? Besides, from what I've noticed, you're not exactly known amongst the group for combat ability."
Frankie laughed. "Doc, I've been working at Foster's my whole life, where I singlehandedly care for every imaginary friend who walks through our front doors. One in particular, her name is Duchess. She has a total cow if she's not carried down into the dining room for breakfast at exactly 8:00, or when her pillows aren't fluffed properly, or even when her bath water is 'lukewarm' instead of 'tepid'; oh yeah, and she once tried to have another imaginary friend killed just because a kid wanted to adopt him instead of her. If I can handle her, I can handle anything the Collector's got."
"That bad?"
"I'll show you the picture later. But I think you get the point. I'm coming with you, whether you like it or not."
'Even one of the more normal ones in this group. No special powers, no combat prowess, more or less average for a human. And yet, she's probably one I don't want to anger. Maybe, neither will the Collector.'
"Alright," the Doctor said begrudgingly. "But if the Collector kills us, I'm blaming you."
"Don't know how that's gonna work if we're dead, but okay. But how do we even find the Collector's room?"
The Doctor smiled as they walked down the hallway. "Oh, I've already been working that out. See, if he was able to talk to us, then it's likely he's in a room with its own monitor. The ship already has a surveillance room, but maybe he had his own personal room. What kind of poacher would he be if he didn't keep a close eye on his prisoners?"
"Okay, but where would that be?"
"Oh, just somewhere. Somewhere like…"
His eyes widened. "Hey Frankie, fancy a trip back to the bridge?"
"What for?"
"You'll see."
He ran off, leaving Frankie to follow him. A few minutes later, they were climbing through the hole Scooby had made earlier back into the ship's bridge.
"Now, this is the Collector's ship," the Doctor asked. "And since it's his ship, he'll have to have easy access to the bridge. But it would have to be a way in which none of his guards or prisoners could possibly figure it out. Not a matter of just walking down the halls between rooms. Nooooo…." He pulled out his sonic and pointed it at the walls, circling the room. "...this has to be far more surreptitious."
He ran to the bookcase where they had found the logs earlier, then searched the sides and back until he found a small button. Pressing it, the bookcase swung wide, revealing a small door on the side of the panel.
"Not bad, Doc," Frankie said. "But wait, if he's in a surveillance room, then he knows we're about to find him."
"Yeah, not exactly a good situation for the element of surprise. Guess we're doing this face to face."
He opened the door, revealing a low tunnel. Frankie and the Doctor entered and began walking down the path. After about thirty seconds, they came to a second door.
"Here goes," Frankie said. "Doc, if this goes wrong, thanks for at least making this NOT the worst day ever."
"Likewise," the Doctor said as he opened the door.
As the Doctor and Frankie entered the room, there he was. The Collector, sitting in a posh chair and twirling a glass of wine in hand, was staring right at them.
"Hello, Doctor."
The Doctor and Frankie stared at him, neither of them wanting to say a word.
"And of course, you little red-haired friend. It is a pleasure to meet you both at last.
The Doctor nodded, finding his voice again. "The Collector, I presume. Also known as Tepi Colaon of the Grime Galaxy."
"Yeah, we did a little digging into your past," Frankie added.
The Collector's eye brow rose at her remark, visibly showing amusement. "I'm surprised you know that my dear," he said, sipping on the wine.
"Hey, you're the one who let us snoop around the bridge," Frankie pointed out.
The Collector sighed as he returned his attention to the Doctor, engaging him in an intense stare off.
"So, we already got one villain speech out of you. Is it time for another?" the Doctor asked.
The Collector gave a small laugh. "I was hoping you would find out where I am. You truly do live up to your reputation, Doctor. The ultimate prize for my collection, standing before me now. I must confess, I am a little…what's the word? You know, that word humans use when you're in awe over someone very famous?"
"Starstruck?" Frankie asked.
"Yes. Precisely. Starstruck. Once again, I let you do as you pleased despite knowing well what you were up to. This time, it was mainly so I had the chance to meet my ultimate prize in person."
"Gee, I feel so warm and fuzzy inside," the Doctor said sarcastically. "I always wanted a stalker."
(Meanwhile…)
Dipper and the others in his group were running down a hallway now, trying to get as much distance from their pursuers as possible. After a few moments, they decided the coast was clear for the time being, and Ed put everyone down.
"I hope the other kids here are alright," Dipper said with a worried tone in his voice. "Even with the Doctor, I feel like us kids would have a much better shot of making it out of here if we stick together."
"Come on, you've seen Sokka," Camillo said with a confident tone in his voice. "He probably has more experience than some of the adults. Besides, did you see that sword?"
"Yeah, I wonder how many jawbreakers I can get if I sell that sword," Eddy said.
"Eddy, are you serious?" Double D asked. "I think there are more important things to worry about right now than jawbreakers."
"That is a matter of opinion."
Chihiro looked at the corner. "Wait, guys. Someone's coming."
The others nodded as they creeped towards the corner. But when they looked to see who was coming, they all sighed in relief.
"Star! Cosmo!" Dipper exclaimed as he and Chihiro went up to hug them.
"Wait, I thought Star was with Elsa and Cosmo with Belle," Mirabel said. "What are you guys doing here now?"
"Well..." Cosmo started to explain before Star interrupted.
"Belle and Elsa are providing distractions, they sent us here to give us a chance to help you out."
Jessica giggled. "You want to see Sokka. Don't you, Star?"
"Noooooo," Star said, clearly blushing.
"Oh come on, we all noticed you looking at him the whole time we were together in the brig," Eddy teased, while Ed laughed behind him.
(AN: Just to point out, this takes place before the end of Star vs The Forces of Evil.)
"You know I have my powers back and can totally turn your head literally upside down, right?" Star pointed out, glaring daggers at Eddy.
Just then, footsteps came thundering towards the group, seemingly in a hurry. In an instant, Sokka and Riley came running in, both out of breath. The others looked at them, concerned, until they realized what the panic was about.
"Guys, run!" Sokka shouted.
"What?" Chihiro called out.
"Just run!" Riley yelled back.
That's when the rest of the group noticed the large, muscle-bound brainwashed alien come barrelling towards them. Immediately, the kids all high-tailed it down the hallway, trying to outrun their new pursuer.
However, it wasn't long before they ended up at a dead end, with the prisoner gaining on them. With no doors nearby to escape into, the group had a difficult time deciding what to do to escape their new situation. But as they tried to think, Cosmo noticed something…off. There was something about the pursuer that gave her pause.
Just as she realized what it was, Ed suddenly charged right at the prisoner at high speeds, just like a raging bull.
"NO HURTING ED'S FRIENDS!"
He rammed into the pursuer head-on, sending them flying into the wall, momentarily dazed.
"Excellent job, Ed!" Double D cheered as the group ran back down the hallway to get away from the prisoner. Once they were a few minutes away, they took a second to catch their breath.
"That should buy us some time," Dipper said. "Now what?"
That's when Mirabel noticed Cosmo's face. She appeared to be in tears. "Cosmo? What's wrong?"
"Did you see the pain in his eyes?" Cosmo quietly asked.
Everyone was stunned by the question. They all looked at Cosmo, trying to gauge out what she meant.
"He was in pain. Physical, probably. But also emotional, I think. He didn't want to hurt us. But he didn't have a say in the matter. All of his free will was taken from him, but the person in there wishes he can stop before it's too late. Just imagine what this whole situation is doing to him."
More silence. Then Dipper looked at everyone. "We need to free them. Somehow."
"But how?" Camillo asked.
"If the Collector could brainwash people, I'm pretty sure he had a control room. You know, one specifically for controlling his prisoners' every move. If we can find it and hack into the mainframe, we can override the brainwashing and return everyone to normal."
Hearing the distant sounds of the muscle-bound prisoner beginning to recover, Mirabel nodded. "Then what are we waiting for? Let's go!"
The kids then ran off again, searching for the control room.
(Back in the Collector's room…)
"So what makes you think you or your little friends could possibly stand a chance against me?" the Collector asked. "I have captured and subjugated many beings across the universe, many of whom are physically far superior to anyone from the group I locked you with. In fact, I recall almost half of that group to be mere children. Doctor, I fail to see how you OR them could somehow be a threat to my plans."
"The view must be great from that horse of yours," Frankie muttered.
The Doctor maintained his eye contact with the Collector. "For someone who's heard of me, you sure don't seem very smart. If you had any bit of common sense, you would realize that your plans are impossible to pull off. Your goals are unachievable. You will never see your little 'menagerie' being completed. Right now, you would be better off if you released all prisoners and left this galaxy for good. It's not too late to leave here with your freedom, and possibly life, intact."
If the Doctor's intention was to make the Collector laugh, then he certainly succeeded. "Have you forgotten who has the advantage here? Ships. Weaponry. My own slave army. My victory is already written. You can't stop me, Doctor. None of you can."
"Oh, we can and we will. We MUST. Why? Because the pain you cause is unforgivable. Do you know what I see in you, Tepi? Not a man but a child, a child who is still trap in his own sick, twisted mind. You have zero feeling for others, you don't know how many people you hurt, how many families you have torn apart, how much pain you've caused, both physically and mentally. You think this is game? Well game over. We are taking back control and ending this charade once and for all. So I'm giving you one last chance, Tepi Colaon. Surrender, and give up this madness."
The Collector stared silently, seemingly into the Doctor's soul. For a moment, he seemed to be considering it as the Doctor and Frankie watched him anxiously.
Suddenly, the Doctor noticed the Collector inching his hand to the sword sitting on his belt. His eyes widening, the Doctor quickly ducked as the Collector rushed forward and swung his sword straight at him, the sword making a wide berth right where the Doctor's head had previously been.
"I WILL not be humiliated! Not by you, or any of those 'friends' of yours. I am the Collector, one of the most feared criminals in the galaxy. And no one, whether they be human, Gem, Time Lord, ANYTHING, will stop me. I'll build my zoo, even if I have to raze the entire universe to do it."
The Doctor sighed. "A sword? Really?"
"Where's Sokka when you need him?" Frankie moaned.
"Guess I was right," the Doctor mocked. "Not quite as smart as you make yourself out to be."
At that remark, the Collector smiled and whispered, just loud enough for only the Doctor to hear, "Far smarter than you are, Mr. 'Last of the Time Lords'."
The Doctor paused. What did the Collector mean by that?
"And I aim to prove it!"
Pulling a remote out, the Collector then hit a button, opening a hidden door in the wall that revealed a tall robot, built to look like a muscular male human and holding a sword in his right hand.
"Direct confrontation is beneath me," the Collector explained. "Why bother when I have the means to make my own fighters? I say it's time we match my technological might against the revered intelligence of the Time Lords."
The robot advanced menacingly towards the Doctor, who began to reach for his sonic and back away towards the door.
Frankie looked around, seeing the Collector still with his own sword in hand, and had a reckless identity. Without a second thought, she tackled him to the ground and wrestled the sword out of his hands. "Doctor, catch!" she stated as she threw her newfound friend the sword.
Just as the Doctor caught the sword, the Collector stood up and began trying to force her off. "Meddling little human!" he exclaimed as he threw Frankie off of him and into the wall, knocking her unconscious.
"Frankie!" The Doctor was shocked. Now it was getting personal. But for now, he had bigger problems as he deflected the robot's blow. He tried to run towards Frankie, but the robot attacked again, blocking the path. Reacting quickly, the Doctor tried to pull out his sonic screwdriver, but was once again blocked as the sonic went flying out of his hands and across the room.
"Like I would give you the chance to pull off your usual tricks," the Collector taunted. "Come on, Doctor. Aren't you going to fight back?"
Left with little other choice, the Doctor continued to parry and defend himself against the robot, trying to find an opening to get to Frankie.
(Meanwhile…)
"There it is!" Camillo asked as they ran towards a room with the sign "Mind Room" by the side. The kids all looked behind them; the muscular prisoner from earlier was still chasing them.
Quickly, the kids opened the door and ran inside, closing the door behind them. "We'll hold the door as long as we can," Sokka said to Dipper, Double D, and Jessica (probably the three smartest kids). "You guys focus on that hack."
Dipper, Double D, and Jessica ran to the computers. Chihiro and Cosmo joined them, as they were unsure of their ability to help. "So we find a way to shut off the mind control. Anything else?" Jessica asked.
"Calling the galactic police," Double D said. "Once we've beaten the Collector, we'll have someone to give them."
""And maybe decrypt any information we can find about him," Dipper added. "There's no way what we found on the bridge was everything. Anything we can learn and tell the Doctor might help."
"Oh, is that all?" Eddy asked as he and the others pushed desks and other objects in front of the door to barricade it. "Take your time. No hurry here. Just our lives on the line, is all."
"You guys CAN get into the network, right?" Cosmo asked.
Dipper smiled. "Count on it."
As the other kids barricaded the door, they all jumped as the brainwashed prisoner pushed against it. While the barricade held, a number of items were jostled.
"Seriously, you guys are on the clock," Eddy said.
"Ed, Star, if that barricade gives way, you guys know what to do," Double D said without turning away from the monitors.
"You got it," Star said, readying her wand.
"Ed is a beast, ready to defend," Ed saluted.
Double D nodded as he focused on the hacking. So far, he and the others were making progress, but they were running out of time as the prisoner continued to push against the door and barricade, weakening them both that much more.
"How are you guys doing?" Camillo asked nervously after a particularly violent push caused the barricade to jump.
"Almost there," Dipper answered.
A prompt for a four-digit number code appeared on the screen. "Okay, this should be the last one," Jessica said as they began running through the hacking process to find the code.
"HURRY!" Riley shouted.
Just then, Sokka noticed it had been longer than usual since the last push. "Everybody down!" he shouted as everyone not at the monitors dived away from the barricade.
BOOM!
The barricade was shattered, and the door along with it as the prisoner stood in the doorway, ready to strike. Ed and Star, as promised, stood in front of him to defend their friends. The prisoner rushed towards them, and…
"DONE!" Dipper shouted.
Sure enough, the ankle bracelet on the prisoner undid itself and fell off, and the prisoner stopped dead in his tracks. He looked around, looking both confused and terrified.
"Am I…free?" he asked.
Mirabel ran up to him. "Sir, are you alright?" she asked.
The man silently nodded.
"It's alright. You're free now. Do you have a name?"
Once again, there was a nod. "Borlon. My name's Borlon, from the planet Escal-20." Tears began to fall down the man's face. "You all are just kids, and I could've killed you. What else has that monster made me do?"
"It's not your fault," Chihiro said. "You didn't know what you were doing. What matters is that it's over, and you'll be home soon."
Mirabel smiled. "Don't worry. We're gonna make sure you get home, and the Collector gets brought to justice. But first, there are a number of fellow prisoners here that had their minds controlled. Can you make sure they're all safe? We've turned all ankle bracelets off, they should be free as well. Just please make sure they're unharmed."
Borlon nodded. "I'll do my best."
"I'll go with him so he doesn't mistake our guys for the others," Sokka said. Mirabel nodded, and Sokka led the emotional Borlon from the room.
"We've also gotten word out to the galactic police," Jessica said. "They'll be waiting on the planet down below. We'll just get Murdock to fly us down there, they'll arrest the Collector, make sure the other prisoners are well taken care of, and everything should be good."
Double D nodded. "That just leaves the information. Looks like a lot of it is corrupted though. Guess the Collector figured something like this might happen one day."
"Is there anything we CAN look at?" Cosmo asked.
"I'm looking now," Double D replied. "Here we go. One undamaged file. Looks like a letter that someone sent the Collector some time ago."
He opened the file, letting himself and the rest of the kids read the letter. And when they finished, their eyes widened.
"Well, how about that?" Eddy asked.
(Meanwhile…)
Thankfully, Frankie was already recovering as the sword robot relentlessly pursued the Doctor. Sitting up and shaking away the cobwebs, she noticed a spare sword sitting next to her. Grinning, she snatched it, ran behind the robot, and jumped onto its back, trying to pull it away. She jumped off once the robot had taken several steps backwards, then ran to rejoin the Doctor as he looked at her, impressed.
"Hey, what did I miss?" Frankie asked.
"Robot trying to kill me. Pretty standard."
The Collector, seeing this, was furious. "You had better say your prayers, both of you. This robot is programmed with four hundred thousand different sword-fighting styles from across the universe."
"Four hundred thousand?" the Doctor asked. "Is that all?"
The robot continued to advance, forcing the Doctor and Frankie to hide behind a desk. "Hey, where's your sonic?" Frankie asked.
"No idea," the Doctor admitted.
"Cool. I'll grab the robot's attention, you just focus on finding it."
"What?"
"Trust me, Doctor. I actually learned a lot about distractions working at Foster's."
The Doctor sighed and nodded. At this point, he had no choice. "Just be careful, alright?"
"Okay."
Frankie then jumped out, holding her sword. "Hey, ugly! I take care of hundreds of imaginary friends every day singlehandedly, and you don't hold a candle to any one of them!"
Hearing this, the robot began to engage Frankie in a sword fight while the Doctor crept around, trying to find his sonic. The Collector noticed the Doctor sneaking and tried to rally the robot towards him.
"Ignore the woman. Go after the Doctor!"
Frankie heard this and quickly landed a few strikes from her sword against the robot's own, keeping its attention on her, while the Doctor poked his head under several desks and chairs, trying to spot any sign of his precious tool.
At one point, the robot was once again pushed to go after the Doctor, who thankfully reacted and blocked his strike with the sword he still had in his own hands. Frankie landed a good strike on the robot's back, gaining its attention again and allowing the Doctor to continue his search.
"Why are you wasting time?" the Collector demanded. "The Doctor is your target!"
"Anything yet?" Frankie asked. "I don't know how much longer I can hold him off."
"Working on it!" the Doctor shouted.
"Oh, for the love of…" The Collector had run out of patience. "Just do away with her! Quickly!"
The robot began to fight more aggressively, to the point where every block Frankie nearly made her lose her balance. "Seriously, hurry!" she exclaimed.
"I need a minute!" the Doctor shouted back before he finally spotted something metallic poking behind a bookcase. Quickly, he jumped at the device and grabbed it, then pointed it at the robot.
To his immense relief, the familiar buzzing of his sonic screwdriver rang out as the robot began shorting out, smoke billowing from the inside before, with a loud groan, it stopped completely, leaving Frankie gasping for breath as she backed away. She and the Doctor looked at the now dead robot, then at each other, before finally settling their gazes on the now livid Collector.
"Impossible… I built that robot to be the ultimate fighter! You two vile beings! I will personally make sure you two suffer the most pain out of anyone I have ever taken in for my zoo." He stood up and pointed his own sword at them, but then Frankie rushed forward and kicked the sword out of his hand, the recoil of which also knocked the Collector to the ground. Before he could stand up, a sword came right up to his face, the Doctor forcing him to stay down. Frankie moved behind the Collector, pointing her own sword at him.
"You caused the deaths of countless beings across the universe, ripped many others from their homes and families, and took away your prisoners' free will. And you expect me to just let you get away with it? Let's see how you like having everything you've held dear disappear in the blink of an eye."
Frankie looked at him. "Wait. You're not about to kill him, are you?"
The Doctor never broke his stare off the Collector. "You saw the list, you understand what he's done. A monster like him doesn't deserve to live another second. You know this, Frankie."
Frankie shook her head. "That's not your decision to make, Doctor. He needs to face justice for everyone he's hurt. Doctor, he's helpless at this point. We can turn him in without hassle."
"This ISN'T up for debate, Frankie!" the Doctor exclaimed. "He's not the first one I've met who only seeks to destroy lives. And he won't be the last. I've already given him a chance, and he didn't take it. As far as I'm concerned, he can rot. He deserves that much."
"But if you kill him, you're taking a life. A living, breathing person. How is that any better than what the Collector himself has done? If you kill him right now, you're no better than he is."
The Doctor paused. He knew there was truth in Frankie's words, and yet he still wanted nothing more than to run that sword right through the Collector's heart and avenge everyone whose lives he had ruined.
"Doctor, look at him. He's scared. Scared for his own life. Don't do it."
Frankie's words were taking hold. The Doctor looked down at the Collector and nodded. With a flourish of his sonic, the blade on the sword the Doctor held was instantly melted through until it broke in two. He threw the pieces off to the side.
Just then, the walkie-talkie he still held rang out. 'Doctor, it's Dipper. We've managed to free the prisoners of their mind control, and we've called the police to wait on Sejanus down below. I have more, but it's best if we tell you that part in person.'
"Alright, just hang tight," the Doctor said into the device. "We've taken care of the Collector, we'll have Murdock fly the ship down so the police can arrest him." He looked at the Collector. "You're about to pay for every single crime you've committed. There's no use running now." However, he and Frankie noticed something chilling.
The Collector was laughing.
"What's so funny?" Frankie asked.
"You two seriously think I'm just gonna go quietly? Accept defeat? Ask yourselves this: was it really a smart idea to destroy my robot?"
Just then, sirens began ringing out through the entire ship: "WARNING! ENGINE FAILURE! PLEASE RESTART ENGINES! COLLISION IS IMMINENT!"
"What's going on?" Frankie asked.
"My robot had a failsafe," the Collector explained. "The moment you two destroyed it, its computer sent a signal to the ship's engines. That signal turned them off."
"What?" the Doctor exclaimed. "You snake!"
"Too bad there's only one escape pod on this ship, and only I know where it is!"
Suddenly, the Collector stood up and forced Frankie's sword out of her hand, tossing it aside. "What a shame, Doctor. You would have become probably the main draw for my zoo. At least now I can tell the story of how I caused the demise of the legendary Doctor!" With a final cackle, he ran out the door. The Doctor and Frankie ran out into the hallway, hoping to catch him before it was too late.
"Rejoin the others, I'll catch him!" the Doctor ordered. Frankie nodded, and the two ran off in opposite directions.
The Doctor followed the Collector, going by subtle glances and the sound of footsteps, until he reached a series of doors, all locked. "Of course," the Doctor muttered, using his sonic screwdriver to undo each lock in quick succession. Once he took care of the final lock, he ran as fast as he could into the escape pod bay.
However, he entered just in time to see the lone escape pod fly off into space. He sighed as he spotted the Collector, laughing his face off.
"Doc, it's Dipper. Uh, what the heck just happened? We heard the sirens. Is the ship REALLY about to crash?"
"Hey, it's Murdock. What the hell is going on?!"
"This is Elsa. We need to get out of here, and fast!"
The Doctor spoke into the walkie-talkie, "Tell me something I don't know."
"What about the escape pods?" Parker asked.
"The Collector's already left with the only one. Speaking of which, Dipper, think you can-"
"Hack into the escape pod's computer so it lands on Sejanus, where the police are waiting?" Dipper finished. "Count on me. I'll also have the door locked until the cops find him."
"Hey, I'm with the other prisoners,' Sokka explained. 'We managed to free them from their mind control."
"Good. Do they know any other means of escape?"
"Let me ask…. Yeah, they said the Collector has a private hangar. Apparently, he collects spaceships too. Should be just enough for the other prisoners to escape. They actually know where it is."
"Brilliant. Get the other prisoners to that hangar and off the ship, then join the rest of us once you're done. Now, Pearl and Double D, you two need to head for the engine room and jumpstart those engines, get them running again."
"Wait, what?" Pearl asked.
"Pearl, would you please just trust me?!"
Silence.
"Everyone else, regroup on the bridge. If we do this right, then we're all making it out alive, and the Collector will be the one cowering in terror." With that, the Doctor turned off the walkie-talkie and ran off towards the bridge.
(Meanwhile…)
Borlon broke down the door leading into the private hangar. "Yes! Knew it!"
Sokka nodded, then faced the formerly mind-controlled prisoners. "Everyone, take a ship and get out of here as fast as you can. Go to Sejanus, just down below. The police will be able to help you guys there."
Borlon nodded. "We owe you and your friends our thanks."
"Better thank the Doctor, not me. Now go!"
The other prisoners ran into the hangar and began to board the ships. Taking a moment to watch them go, Sokka spotted a suspicious blue phone booth.
"Now what kind of ship is that?" he asked. "Actually, I don't want to know."
(On the bridge…)
The Doctor ran through the Scooby hole and entered the bridge. By that point, everyone who wasn't still busy had gathered there as well (including Dipper, after finishing his hacking job).
When the group looked out the window, they were surprised to the that the planet Sejanus had gotten a lot bigger in appearance, and seemed to be getting only bigger as the ship sped towards it at top speeds.
"How much time do we have until impact?" Sam asked.
"By the looks of it, about ten minutes tops," the Doctor replied. "Hopefully, Pearl and Double D will get the engines running in time."
He looked at Murdock. "But with or without working engines, we still need to land safely. I could use a pilot to help me out."
Murdock grinned. "Well, I thought you'd never ask."
He then rushed into the pilot's seat, studying the controls. "You know I've never flown an alien spaceship before. I could end up crashing and sentencing us all to horrible deaths. But oh well. At least if this goes south, I can go out flying this bad boy. Now hold on to your hats, guys! Or anything else if you don't have hats!"
Grasping the steering mechanism, he immediately began trying to show down the ship, searching for anything resembling brakes.
"I'll join you," the Doctor said, getting into the copilot's seat.
"Hey, Doctor?" Dipper asked.
"Make it quick, I'm busy helping land a spaceship right now."
"I know, but I still have to tell you what else we found in this place's network. Did you know where the Collector came from?"
"The Grime Galaxy. Why?"
Dipper bit his lip. "Yeah, that's what I thought. I read about the people who built this ship, and not a single planet in the Grime Galaxy builds ships in this style. No galaxy within a trillion miles of Grime does."
The Doctor raised an eyebrow. "Then how did he get his hands on this one?"
"Getting to that. We found a letter addressed to Tepi Colaon, aka the Collector, thanking him for his help. It looks like in exchange for that help, the Collector's friend gave him the ship, the men, the technology, everything so he could build his zoo."
The Doctor smiled slightly. "Huh. A mysterious benefactor. And the plot thickens."
Then he shook his head. "We can't worry about that now. We still have a ship to land."
He and Murdock continued to work in tandem, trying to straighten out the ship as much as possible.
(In the engine room…)
"Am I glad I kept that keycard?" Double D asked as he and Pearl ran into the room quickly finding how much of a mess had been made. A fire had broken out, and there was a power cord dangling from the ceiling.
"Okay, what kind of signal did that robot send?" Double D asked.
Pearl looked at the engines. "Not a single engine is running. Any ideas?"
"Hmmm… Is there some kind of fuse box in here?"
They searched around for anything resembling a fuse box and found nothing. Double D tapped his chin, trying to think.
"You wouldn't happen to have some kind of power to channel electricity, would you?"
The Gem shook her head. "Trust me, I wish."
Then she gasped. "Wait a minute! I DO have a power source we can use. Us Gems can use ourselves to power machines and other objects. Maybe I can give the ship the kickstart it needs."
Double D smiled. "You're a walking, talking power source? Amazing. When this is over, I officially have a million questions to ask about your species. Do you eat? Do you breathe? How long do your people live?"
"Double D, focus!"
Taking out her spear, Pearl pried open the access panel on the engine, and the two immediately ducked to avoid the sparks flying everywhere.
"Okay, so you said once that your real self is the gemstone on your forehead, and that your body is more of a projection. If you retreat back into your gem, I think you'll be able to fit inside the panel."
Pearl nodded. "If this works, I should be able to get the engines running so that we can land."
"Then let's do it."
With a final nod, Pearl's body retreated back into her gem. Double D picked the gem up and gently placed it in the access panel. He stood there, waiting for a few minutes while using his shirt to block out the smoke from the fire.
(On the bridge…)
"Not good," the Doctor said. "We're about to go into atmospheric reentry."
Sokka ran in, out of breath. "Good news, guys. All the other prisoners have escaped the ship and are headed for Sejanus down below. I made sure the were a safe distance from the ship's path in case this goes south."
"Might as well be going south!" Murdock shouted. "Everybody hold onto something!"
Everyone grabbed the nearest sturdy objects they could find while the ship entered the planet's atmosphere, indicated by the cone of flames now circling it. The ship rumbled violently, and it was all everyone could do to hold on for dear life.
All the while, the Doctor and Murdock were pulling the steering wheels as far back as they could to try and level it out.
(In the engine room…)
There weren't a lot of things Double D could hold on to without having to deal with the fire, which thankfully hadn't gotten truly wild yet, though he was careful not to get within five feet of it. He watched as the little object that was Pearl began to glow, beginning her energy conversion.
Suddenly, a shower of sparks erupted from the panel, and that was when Double D became on high alert again. Something was still wrong. Looking inside the panel, he noticed that one of the wires within had been severed, hindering the speed in which Pearl could power the engines. And at the moment, time was of the essence.
Checking his pockets, he found the plastic wrapper left behind from right before he and his friends were kidnapped. Normally, he abhorred carrying trash on him. And the entire time he had been on the ship, that attitude continued. But now, what he saw in that wrapper was an opportunity.
Carefully, he took the two parts of the wire and held them as close together as possible. Then, he took plastic and wrapped the wire with it, completing the circuit. He stood back, crossing his fingers.
"Please work, please work, please work…"
(On the bridge…)
Everyone collectively held their breaths as the ship neared the surface of Sejanus. By this point, the ship had survived the atmosphere, but was still headed straight for the surface at break-neck speeds.
"You guys gonna hurry up and straighten the stupid ship?!" Eddy shouted.
"Gravity's taken hold," the Doctor explained. "We can't straighten it anymore than this now without power."
"And at the angle we're at, we're all still gonna bite it," Murdock said grimly.
"Hey, don't say that," Belle snided. "We have children in here."
"Don't worry, I get it," said Jessica, not letting go of WALL-E's hand. "If we end up dying in the next minute or so, I just want to say that it's been a pleasure being with you all."
Bugs nodded his head and pulled out a carrot. "Likewise. I just hope this carrot is the best one I'll ever have."
Ed and Eddy shared a fist bump and nodded at each other, while Daxter and Tess held onto each other. Everyone braced themselves for either safety, or the end. Murdock and the Doctor continued trying to pull the ship back, hoping for the best.
Then…
The hum of various instruments rang throughout the room, and suddenly, the ship was instantly leveled out as the Doctor and Murdock pulled the ship back, so now it was flying safely across Sejanus' landscape.
"Holy cow!" Daxter exclaimed.
"Was that what I thought it was?" Riley asked.
(In the engine room…)
"YES! MAGNIFICENT!"
Double D cheered as the engines cranked along at full blast, having plenty of power thanks to Pearl. He had seen the engines begin to glow, but only when he felt the ship level out did he allow himself to relax. The plan had worked. Everyone was safe.
He pulled out the walkie-talkie from his hat and turned it on to talk to the Doctor. "The engines are running again. Is it safe to land?"
"Murdock and I are flying the ship towards the spot where the police are waiting. We should be able to land in a few minutes. How's Pearl? I bet you had to use her as the energy source."
"Of course, you likely know about Gems. But she should be fine once I pull her out of the panel. Speaking of which, is it safe to do so?"
"Go ahead. There will easily be enough residual power once you remove her for us to land safely."
Carefully, Double D removed the gem from the panel and placed it on the ground, where it quickly reformed into Pearl.
"Did we do it?" she asked.
"Absolutely," Double D said. "Hey, the Doctor's on the line."
"Are you alright, Pearl?"
Pearl laughed. "I'll be fine. Just a little drained. I can't remember the last time I had to be a power source for anything."
'Good work, you two. Come join us back on the bridge.'
The line went dead, and with a final thumbs-up, Double D and Pearl exited the engine room.
(Five minutes later…)
The ramp for the cargo hold lowered, allowing the entire group to finally step off the ship. Ed immediately ran off the ramp and began kissing the ground.
"ALIEN DIRT! SWEET, SWEET ALIEN DIRT!"
Eddy rolled his eyes at him while holding onto his stomach tightly. "Ugh…I think I left my stomach back there."
Sokka stepped gingerly on the ground and promptly collapsed out of relief. He lay there, smiling to himself. "I'm alive…," he muttered. "Wait until Aang and the others hear about this."
Star was also on the ground. "That…was…awesome…," she muttered, still somewhat dazed.
A few feet away, Murdock was jumping and shouting with joy. "I LANDED AN ALIEN SPACESHIP!"
"Is it me, or did we just go from being prisoners on a spaceship to stepping foot on an uncharted planet light-years away from home?" Max asked. "Best freaking day ever."
"You crack me up little buddy" Sam grim as he took off his hat to wipe the sweat off his brow.
The Doctor smiled. "You lot are taking your first planet other than Earth really well."
"After spending ages in that brig, you can't be surprised," Bugs said, finishing his carrot. "Right now, I couldn't care less if this were another planet, or my house. Just feels good."
Riley looked around. "So, think the Collector's landed already?" she asked.
Sure enough, the familiar roar of an aircraft rang through as everyone spotted the Collector's escape pod, its parachute deployed so it safely floated down.
"Right on target," the Doctor said, still smiling.
(In the escape pod…)
The Collector finally breathed a sigh of relief within the escape pod as it landed, all windows within it closed so he couldn't see where he was. It was a shame, however, since now he would have to start his collection all over again. He supposed that was on him. After all, he thought it would be a smart idea to bully the Doctor into submission. Oh well. At least now he could proudly claim that he had been the one to finally put an end to the Time Lords.
As for rebuilding his collection, he knew that would take time, since he no longer had a ship OR crew. He supposed he would have to write to his previous supplier and get them to help him again. After all, how hard could it be? No, once he got out of the escape pod, he would simply start over. The thought comforted him as he reached out to open the door.
Unfortunately, it was still locked.
"What the…?"
He struggled with the handle, but the door remained shut. At one point, he tried bracing himself with his food on the wall. Nothing. He was just about to contemplate prying it open when the door suddenly swung wide.
Smiling, the Collector poked his head out…only to be immediately surrounded by a number of armed police officers of the Nordanus Galaxy, their blasters all loaded, their sights trained right at the Collector's head.
"Hands up! Now!"
Hesitantly, the Collector raised his hands above his head.
"Tepi Colaon of the Grime Galaxy, in accordance with the Shadow Proclamation, we are placing you under arrest. The charges are (among others): murder, attempted murder, kidnapping, illegal distribution of weapons, and illegal and cruel use of mind control. Do NOT try to run. We have you surrounded."
The Collector groaned. "A zoo. That's all I wanted. Was that too much to ask?"
(Thirty minutes later…)
It was confirmed that all of the prisoners the Collector had mind controlled were able to reach Sejanus safely, and they wasted no time in giving the police their statements, all wanting to see their former tormentor get what he deserved. The Doctor and his group were offered to give statements as well, but they declined at the Doctor's advice. As far as he was concerned, he and the others had fulfilled their job. This was in the police's hands now.
Except for one matter.
Once all statements had been taken, the police led the Collector (wearing a special, unbreakable set of handcuffs) to one of their ships, ready to take him to the Nordanus Galactic Penetentiary. But before he stepped into the ship, the Doctor cleared his throat.
"Hey!"
The Collector glared at him. "What do you want?"
"I do still have one question." The Doctor looked at the officers. "Do you mind?"
The officers hesitated before nodding and letting the Collector walk closer (with their guns still trained on him just in case).
"Haven't you caused enough damage for one day?" the Collector sneered. "My ambitions are ruined because of you. That zoo, a place where all can gather to see the universe's finest, will never happen now because of you. What more do you want from me?"
The Doctor glared back. "You secret partner. The one who gave you the ship and tech. Who are they?"
This actually wasn't what the Collector expected. He chuckled softly before answering, "Why bother? They're not going to try and bust me out of prison…if that's the least I'm sentenced to."
"Just tell me. I want to know."
The Collector nodded. "Of course. You're curious. I suppose I can tell you, might as well since the information is useless to me now."
He stepped forward. "But why just say it straight? No, after what you did to me, leaving your head spinning is at least some revenge I can dish out. So how about you take this clue, and do with it what you will. But first, I must warn you: I have already given you the clue."
The Doctor stared. "What do you mean?"
Before he could comprehend what he meant, the Collector stood in front of him and leaned forward to his ear. That's when he whispered probably the one thing the Doctor was least expecting.
"Do you honestly believe you and the Master were the only ones to survive the Time War?"
"Far smarter than you are, Mr. 'Last of the Time Lords'."
The Doctor went rigid. Of all the things he figured he would hear, this was the absolute last thing he expected. Moving back, the Collector smiled, apparently satisfied with the state he had put him in. He leaned forward again to whisper one more sentence.
"Beware of the Mad Lady."
With his clue given, the Collector stepped back as the Doctor looked at him in horror. As the police took the Collector away, he began to laugh hysterically, knowing he had at least managed to scare the Doctor. He was still laughing when he was finally taken off the planet on one of the police's ships.
Sighing, the Doctor ran his hand through his hair as he watched the ship with the Collector on it fly off, bound for prison. "I hate it when they get all cryptic," he muttered.
"Doctor, are you okay?" Frankie asked.
Breaking out of his train of thought, he nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine."
"You sure?"
"Of course…anyway, is there anything else you need us for, officers?"
The officer in charge shook his head. "Not at all sir, except that we don't exactly have your name yet."
The Doctor took out his psychic paper and showed it to the officer. "Freelance investigator, I was trapped on the ship along with everyone else. Just call me 'the Doctor'."
"You've got to be kidding me," Parker quietly seethed. "'Piece of paper' my foot."
"I see," said the officer. "Don't worry about the prisoners the Collector had brainwashed. Once we're done here, they'll be taken to a refugee shelter until they're recovered, after which we'll ensure their safe travels back to their homes and families. We can take you and your group to the refugee shelter as well, if you wish."
"No thank you. We'll manage from here. Now, if you don't mind, may we go back onto the Collector's ship to grab something?"
The officer looked at him. "Are you sure? We're about to take it with us as evidence."
The Doctor smiled. "Don't worry, officer. We'll be out of there before you know it."
Knowing he likely wouldn't change his mind, the officer nodded. "Very well."
Satisfied, the Doctor turned to face the group, particularly Sokka. "Now, where is that private hangar?"
(Back on the ship…)
"This is gonna be a great one to tell my future kids one day," Eddy boasted as the group followed Sokka down the ship's hallway. "'There I was, face-to-face with dozens of mind-controlled soldiers. I knew I had to think fast in order to survive. I was amazing out there. Death stared me right in the face, and I stared right back like it was nothing.'"
"That's what you plan to tell them?" Double D asked.
"And what will you be telling them, Sockhead? Actually, what will you be telling Gaz about this?"
Double D glared at him. "The truth. She's met aliens, she'll believe me."
Ed leaned over them. "I got to meet real life aliens! Aww, my tummy feels all warm and gooey inside!"
Riley stared at him. "Ew."
Murdock was skipping. "I don't know about you guys, but I plan to just lord this over my teammates. Got to meet aliens, help defeat a criminal, and land an alien spaceship. Beat that, Hannibal!"
The Doctor couldn't help but laugh. 'Without a doubt, these are some of the weirdest, most ridiculous people I have ever come across in my travels. And I suppose that's what makes them all amazing.'
Sokka opened the door to the hangar. "Are you sure your ship's in here?" he asked the Doctor. "All the ships in the hangar were taken by the other prisoners earlier."
"Not all of them," the Doctor replied.
As they walked in, Jessica looked around. Despite the hangar now appearing devoid of ships, there were a ton of boxes littered around the place, creating a big mess. "Wow, the Collector was seriously nearing hoarder territory in here."
"Come on, it has to be around here somewhere," the Doctor muttered before his eyes lit up. "Yes!" He ran up to the familiar blue police box, the same one Sokka had spotted earlier.
He gave the door a quiet pet, then turned back around and beheld the dumbstruck faces of the group.
"Wait, THAT'S your ship?" Daxter asked, his eye twitching.
"Yep," the Doctor said, popping the "p". "Impressive, right?"
"Not the word I would use," Dipper replied skeptically.
"He travels around in a box?" Parker asked. "And people call ME nuts."
The Doctor ignored her and took his key out, unlocking the door, opening it, and stepping inside the box before looking at the group.
"Well? Are you lot coming in or not?"
"In there?" Sokka asked incredulously. "You can't be serious."
The Doctor grinned. "Want to try?"
Sighing, Sokka stepped inside. Though the others couldn't see him, they could make out his gasp of surprise.
"Guys! You have to see this!"
"Are you nuts?" Frankie shouted back. "We can't all fit in that thing!"
"Oh, trust me. You will."
Shrugging, the rest of the group began to file in. The Doctor smiled, saying to himself, "Oh, this is my favorite part."
One by one, the people in the group stepped inside, each wearing looks of pure surprise on their faces.
"No way," Frankie muttered.
"B-but it's just a box," Sokka said.
"I think we're past 'box' at this point," Double D pointed out.
Gwen looked all over the place in pure wonder. "Holy cow, it's bigger on the inside."
"And…mark," the Doctor muttered to himself.
Belle also couldn't stop running around. Instantly, she ran back outside and began circling the box several times before running back in. "This is beyond incredible!"
"Is this done by trans-dimensional engineering?" Double D asked, staring at the console. "Outstanding. And I thought that was just a myth."
The Doctor smiled before speaking to the group, "This ship is called the TARDIS. That's 'Time And Relative Dimension In Space'. It's a two-in-one spaceship and time machine, and it's how I get from Point A to Point B in a matter of seconds, anywhere in time and space."
Star was jumping up and down. "This is so cool! Can I drive?"
"No," the Doctor instantly replied.
As everyone admired the console room, the Doctor entered in a list of coordinates he had gotten from the bridge earlier, the ones leading to everyone's proper homes. But he knew he couldn't just leave it at that. The group had proven themselves today, probably saving him just as much as he had saved them. It was time to make the offer he had been considering all day.
"Since the Collector input the times and places and planets of where you lot were abducted, I can get you all back to your respective homes no problem. Or….."
"Or what?" Belle ask
A smile spread across the Doctor's face. "We can go the long way around."
"Uh, what would happen if we chose the long way?" Camillo asked.
"Oh, nothing special. Just visiting various planets, going back in time to meet famous people throughout history, saving the world once or twice, saving civilization from extinction, etc. That, and there is a heck of a lot of running!"
"But you'll get us back to our homes?" Pearl asked, sounding a little skeptical.
"Yep I promise you all," the Doctor answered. "So what do you say?"
A few members of the group shrugged at each other, currently unsure of the route to take. But a few were getting glints of excitement in their eyes.
"Well, it might be okay," Sam said pondering
"But if you all say yes, I should warn you, you are gonna see a lot of things, some you might not want to see. Monsters from the past, aliens from the future, and even to the place where your worst nightmare comes true. There WILL be danger, plenty of it. There might be times when you'll have to rely on yourselves. But it will be worth it in the end. It will not be calm, quiet, or safe, but I can guarantee what it will be for you: the trip of a lifetime.
"But I can't force any of you to say yes. That's your decision to make. If you would rather head straight home, I'll respect that decision. So I ask again. What do you all say? Would you like to explore the universe with me?"
For several seconds, the Doctor looked at each member of the group individually, trying to figure out what they were all thinking. A few looked around at the others, while another few stared at the ground in quiet contemplation.
After a tense period of silence, a small white paw raised up into the air. The Doctor's face brightened.
"I'm in," said Max.
Instantly, Sam raised up his hand/paw as well. "If he's in, I'm in. Someone's gotta make sure Max stays out of trouble, you know."
Johnny, sitting on Sam's shoulder, raised his own hand. "Hey, should be fun. Can't say I ever traveled with an alien with a weird sense of fashion and a fancy accent. But hey, what's life without living?"
The Doctor nodded. "Who else?"
Frankie's hand shot up. "Count me in. It'll be nice to get away from Foster's for a bit."
Belle nodded. "Space travel is something that isn't even thought of in my time. Like I would pass up a chance like this."
The Eds cheered. "Space adventures, here we come!" Eddy exclaimed.
"More aliens!" Ed shouted.
"Do you have any journals here?" Double D asked. "If I'm going to be traveling across time and space, I want to document some of it."
Dipper high fived Double D. "We'll both document everything. I'm more than ready for this."
"WAAALLLLEEEE!" WALL-E nodded his little head.
"I'm in, Roctor," Scooby said, looking a little nervous but still certain.
Parker shrugged. "Sure. Why not?"
"YESYESYES!" Star cheered. "I get to travel around space!"
Elsa smiled. "This is an opportunity very few people have ever had. I would be foolish to pass it up."
Mirabel and Camillo both gave their thumbs up. "Both of us are going," Mirabel stated. "I'm willing to protect my cousin, and he's willing to protect me. Even into the depths of space, apparently."
Tigger began bouncing off the walls, left and right. "Pupupu! This Tigger is ready to bounce all across time and space."
Murdock shook the Doctor's hand vigorously. "If you need a second pilot on this trip, I'm your guy. It's time to 'boldly go where no one has gone before'."
"First few minutes, and we already have Star Trek references," Gwen pointed out. "But you know, I've wanted to see the kind of stuff my grandpa talks about. And maybe get away from his cooking too, so you know. Bonus."
Bugs pulled out another carrot. "How could I possibly resist?" he asked both the Doctor AND the audience.
"I NEED to see how other planets and time periods handle law enforcement," said Judy. "Kinda wish I had asked the cops earlier a few questions, but whatever. Now I'll have plenty of chances."
Cosmo rubbed her leaf hands together nervously. "Well, I know I'll have some people looking out for me at least. I guess I'm brave enough to do this."
Sokka raised his boomerang in salute. "If today was anything to go by, this group is gonna need some born leaders and fighters. I'm in."
Daxter raised his hand. "I'll get in on that action."
Tess smiled as she held Daxter's hand. "And I'll stick with you through it all."
"I'm in," said Jessica.
(Inside Riley's mind…)
"Please, no," Fear whined. "The Doctor said it would be dangerous."
"Come on, where's your sense of wonder?" Anger asked. "We're gonna make sure Riley takes time and space by storm."
Disgust shrugged her shoulders. "Yeah, and end up in a bunch of messed up situations where we get covered in space muck? No thanks."
"Okay, but at the same time, we might be able to help out a lot of people," Sadness reminded them. "The people whom the Collector had brainwashed, they seemed almost broken. There might be more people like that we can help.
Everyone looked at Joy. "What do you think?" Fear asked.
Joy smiled. "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. There's no way we can say no here. I say let's do it."
(Back in the TARDIS…)
"Me too," Riley said. "Sounds like it's gonna be the time of my life."
Chihiro gave a small nod. "I guess it's not the weirdest thing that's happened to me. I'd be more than happy to join in."
That only left one person who had yet to accept the Doctor's offer. Everyone looked at Pearl, waiting for an answer. Evidently, she was still skeptical of a number of things, including the Doctor's true intentions.
Finally, she turned to face the group. "You guys are going to need more than one expert on alien life, especially with a group this big. I bring in thousands of years worth of experience protecting Earth and doing my own exploration of the stars. You guys will need all the help you can get out there. And I suppose I wouldn't mind being that help. So I'm in too."
The Doctor's smile widened. "Brilliant. Everyone, welcome to the TARDIS."
Everyone cheered.
Time and space, here we come!" Daxter shouted, swinging off the catwalk in excitement.
The Doctor laughed as he turned to the console and set the ship to just fly around the Time Vortex, listening as the group mingled, and a few small arguments were already breaking out over where their first trip would be.
"Can we go to the Hundred Years' War?" Dipper asked.
"No, I want to see Earth 25,000 years from my time," Jessica stated.
Murdock shook his head. "I want a planet. And not a desert one like the one we just left. Something with a jungle. Yeah. With…with aliens who have chainsaws for hair and listen to freedom rock!"
"No, we should go to whatever place in the universe makes the best jawbreakers," Eddy demanded. "Just to warn you guys, the candy store in my town has some high standards. REALLY high."
The Doctor laughed to himself. This group was already proving to be some of the rowdiest companions he had ever met. And he couldn't wait to get started. But first, he had one more task to finish.
(Then…)
A Message from The Doctor:
"Greetings. I am the Doctor, a Time Lord from the planet of Gallifrey, within the constellation of Kasterborous. If you are watching this message, know that it is regarding the well being of a loved one or friend who has recently disappeared inexplicably. You want answers. Hopefully, what I'm about to say will ease your worries."
(In the town of Peach Creek…)
Jimmy, Sarah, Nazz, Kevin, Rolf, Jonny, and the Kanker sisters were watching the message on TV together (let's face it, the Eds still made things interesting for these guys).
"Your friends or loved ones were kidnapped by an intergalactic poacher called 'the Collector', who had the intent to keep them for a sort of 'zoo' he was hoping to build. They weren't the only ones who were taken. Rest assured, I have rescued them from the Collector's clutches, and they are safe with me on my TARDIS ship."
(In Zootopia…)
Nick Wild and the rest of Zootopia's 1st Precinct watched the message on the TV in the Police Station's break room.
"For the time being, they have agreed to stay with me on the TARDIS and join my travels. However, I have made a promise to them that they would all return to their homes safely, and I make that same promise to you now."
(In Haven City…)
Jak, Keira, and Samos view the message on a hologram screen.
"I will protect them with all my might, and I will eventually bring them home safe and sound."
(In 18th century France…)
In lieu of screens, Belle's father Maurice instead got the Doctor's message as a letter.
"Now, I understand if it seems impossible to believe me. Let's be honest, you really don't know who I really am. Why trust a complete stranger? But in this case, I do need you to trust me, and to believe in the impossible."
A few more people and groups related to someone currently on the TARDIS were shown watching or reading the message, from Elsa's sister Anna, to the Madrigal household, to the A-Team, to Dipper's sister Mabel, and many others before finally showing the Doctor and his new group of companions, all looking out towards the deep reaches of space as the Doctor closed his message.
"If there is one thing I have learned in my travels, it's that the impossible IS possible. All you have to do is look towards the night sky. That is my advice to you now. Just simply look towards the night sky…and believe."
He ended the message with a smile.

KW and MK: Woah…
MK: That was awesome!
(I see that Twitchy's jaw is still dropped, and I close his mouth,)
Twitchy: That was a hell of a way to start the series.
KW: Yeah, and some of you might be wondering: who is the mad lady? And what does she have to do with the Doctor?
Twitchy: That's exactly what I'm thinking.
MK: Well all will be revealed over the the course of the series. But for now, we will give you all a sneak peek at what happening next on Doctor Who Series 3.5.
KW: ROLL FILM!
(Next time on Doctor Who!)
The TARDIS materialized in a sandy alleyway.
"Egypt, 1925," the Doctor informed the group.
"We're actually joining an expedition into an Egyptian pyramid?" Dipper asked, clearly excited.
…
"So are all of you joining the tour?" a guide asked the group.
"Yes, we are," the Doctor replied.
…
Double D was examining some hieroglyphics. "'To all who enter my tomb, beware the stars.'"
…
The lid was pushed off the sarcophagus, revealing a tall mummy in pharoah's garb.
"You fools!" the guide shouted. "You will surely bring the mummy's wrath upon yourselves!"
…
"Does anyone else hear clicking?" Frankie asked.
Bugs pointed the torch to the floor, revealing a large swarm of scarab beetles.
…
The mummy pharaoh's eyes hit up as he rose from his sarcophagus.
"THOSE WHO ENTER MY TOMB SHALL FACE THE WRATH OF THE STARS!"
(End sneak peak)
KW: That's right, guys. Next time, the Doctor and the Tardis crew have landed in Egypt in the 1920s, and they are going to explore a recently unearthed pyramid. But with the Doctor's luck, it's not going to be all fun and games as they encounter an evil that is more evil than Sutekh.
MK: Next time, in the chapter "Unearthed". Before that, however, be on the lookout for an Interlude, a smaller chapter that kinda leads into the next. This one will just be the group settling into the TARDIS, having some fun, and the Doctor having some important discussions with a couple of his new companions.
KW: Now if you've got any questions or ideas regarding the series like what the companions' themes are, leave a review or DM either of us.
MK: And if you want to share your thoughts on this episode, we would love to hear from you. Who knows? Your comments might be posted in the next chapter!
KW: BUT! Don't send any kind of mean comments or troll comments, because this is a no troller zone. If you do, we will print out those mean comments and shred it with our paper shredder. So don't even think about it, troll. Step away from the keyboard.
(I do an "I got my eyes on you" gesture towards the trolls of the Internet.)
MK: Anyway… Be sure to fave this story and follow it so you're alerted to updates. Also, you can go check out my own stories, including Total Drama Everything. Currently, I am working on Deadpool's Adventure with The Doctor: The Time Dragon, which I admittedly haven't updated in a hot minute, but I am working on it and hope to release a new chapter soon.
(We heard a loud "Yay!" coming from outside, which leaves us dumbfounded.)
KW: Was that…?
MK: Yep.
KW: Man, he's got good hearing. Anyway, this will also not be the last time Kat and I do an collab, so keep an eye for more future works in the TDE franchise universe.
MK: Thank you so much for reading, and we will see you next time!
All three of us: BYE!
