Most of the books given to Harry were made by an author called 'Zygmunt Budge'. He seemed like a well known potioneer from the 1400's.
Many of his books had been about creature inheritances or "Half-Breeds" as he called them. Mostly it was how potions could help them.
The first one he picked up was ""Potions Magik on Half Breeds" as he touched the book it automatically flipped onto a page.
"Growing Pains on Other Limbs" was the title.
'Right on the nose I guess' Harry thought, he then heard rustling.
Draco was on the ladder he was hanging on the side to try and get a book that looked to be in French.
"Want me to push you a little closer?" Harry asked.
"No, it's okay. Focus on your books." Draco gritted.
Harry hummed but watched Draco with a careful eye, something in the back of his mind was screaming at him to move.
Then Draco was falling from a height of a few metres.
Many things happened at once.
Salazar had a shocked expression as he witnessed Harry's pupils turn to slits as he moved at unseeable speeds.
One minute he was sitting in the chair and the other he was catching Draco falling as soon as he slipped.
Harry lifted his arms as he caught Draco, a grunt escaped him.
Draco was shaking but flashed him a small smile "H-Heavy am I Potter?" He was stuttering.
Harry watched Draco with a careful and powerful gaze, he seemed there but not.
Harry's head tilted as he rattled towards Draco.
"Harry what?-"
The more he looked at the other he noticed certain things.
Harry's eyes were glowing as his pupils were fixed towards him, his hair had slight green static energy appearing every once in a while.
He looked. Well, Wild.
As if the human half was not present at all.
Harry carefully put Draco on his feet.
Draco watched Harry move his weight from side to side as he looked around in a flickery manner.
"Harry?" Draco questioned, unsure on what to do.
Harry's attention was focused on him immediately, his pupil would flutter different sizes as he was focusing.
"Harry, do you want to sit down on your chair?" He asked
Harry thought for a second he then made a sound almost like a whirring as he walked towards the chair.
Then two books floated in front of Draco from the shelf behind him.
One was the French book he was reaching for, and the other was "Instincts by Barret Fae."
The Fae's were a well known pureblood family that all died out due to inbreeding in the late 1800's, although Barret was the most successful as an author.
The book then turned towards a page on half avians.
"Half avians are well known to have stronger instincts compared to any other half breed, this is due to them being shown more in humans (eg, centaurs). This can cause them to be very bird-like and can cause their human half to turn dormant while the bird gains control.
Most avians call this state "bird brain". Avians are unaware or have a fuzzy sense of what their bird counterpart has done while in control.
Being "bird brained" is very common throughout avians and is a well known phenomenon. Avians are known to be very joyful and protective with their "flock" (info can be found on page 103). You and the avian will have to wait for their human counterpart to return back to control"
Draco looked towards Harry and grabbed the book.
"Are we allowed to take books with us?" He asked Salazar.
"Of course, but make sure to bring them back and care for them. Most of these are rare and hard to find." Salazar had answered.
Draco then configured a scrap piece of paper on the floor into a small book holding bag and he put his and Harry's books into it.
Harry was watching him with a fond expression, his head was in his arms over the table.
Draco smiled at Harry, "What's the matter?"
Harry grinned and giggled, he seemed childlike.
'Well it would make sense his 'bird side' is very new..' he thought.
Harry's eyes were flickering to all the different books, he then landed back on Draco.
The static around his hair had slowed down significantly, it was every few minutes you would see some travelling on certain sections.
"Why do you think his hair is static like that?" Draco asked as he turned towards Salazar.
Salazar contemplated, "it's either his magical storage is overflowing and showing in small ways because of less restraint on it. Or because he is more childlike and has less control on his magic"
'His power is very… volatile, he must keep it under very tight chains to not harm anyone..' Draco thought as he remembered the night before.
"W'z goin' on?" Harry muttered after a minute of so, his English had a slight chirp to it as his pupils were not yet spherical.
Draco walked towards him and put a comforting hand on the back of his shoulder, "your okay, it's just apart of your inheritance"
Harry looked at him with half lidded eyes, it looked like he was struggling to speak with him and stay awake. "I d'n w'nna.."
"It's okay to let go, it's only us here." Draco had muttered,
Harry looked at Draco, his pupils slowly turned to a slit again, he was fighting against his avian side.
Draco 'accio'ed his chair towards them and sat down. He rubbed circles into Harry's back.
"Draco I c'nt" harry slurred.
"You can, it will be good for you to relax into this slowly, it's new and scary but it's okay" Draco answered, rewording what the avian book had said.
Slytherin was avidly watching in the portrait with interest as he saw the two interact. Fate did not want them to act how they were before, but somehow, someway. Someone changed their original fate. It was hard to get the timeline to the original story, but fate had managed with help of other deities and gods.
He watched harry's arm spasm,
"Harry you are only hurting yourself, let go" Draco said.
"N't safe," he murmured into his arms.
"Why not?"
Harry shook in reply, a croon sounding from deep in his throat.
"Let me help you"
Harry looked at Draco and the surrounding library.
"Too big…" he said, his voice soft and returning to a chip-like manner.
"You want a smaller room?" Asked Draco.
Harry's cheeks flushed, his pupils becoming shrinking to the thin shape it was before as he became non-verbal again apart from bird noises.
"Will dimming the lights help?" Salazar asked, he watched Harry's eyes snap towards him.
Harry nodded slightly. Then suddenly the library became dark apart from the lamp on the table.
Draco looked up and saw Salazar leaving his portrait.
As Draco looked at Harry he could see how he held himself with less anxiety.
"Safe?" Draco asked.
Harry made a short chittering noise in response.
Harry's gaze was back to being fixated on him, almost like he was admiring him.
Harry's gaze wandered towards his hair after a minute or so. Draco watched as Harry's eyes darted to his arm.
His left arm to be exact.
Harry's hand then darted to catch it. It made Draco jump and lean away. Harry paused, hovering above it.
Harry's head tilted at Draco almost like asking for permission to touch his arm. Draco nodded his head slowly.
He then softly grabbed Draco's arm and lifted up the sleeve to reveal the dark mark.
Harry prodded and pressed against it, looking for something.
He started to hiss in parseltongue and the mark would answer back. Harry's eyebrow furrowed with whatever the snake had said.
His hand then glowed a vibrant green, Draco grunted in pain as Harry placed it onto the mark. As quick as the pain began it stopped quicker.
Harry lifted his hand to show his porcelain skin blank like a canvas.
"What.." Draco's lip trembled as his eyes began to become fuzzy.
Harry crooned and hugged Draco, he rubbed his back and placed his head on Draco's shoulder trying to convey his comfort through actions rather than the usual thoughts.
Draco was a quiet crier, it was drilled into him by his father. 'Malfoys do not cry' he would say.
Harry started to play with Draco's hair, his fingers running through it softly.
"'S okay d'co" he muttered
"Thank you so much" was whispered back.
Harry crooned at him in response.
They both sat together for a while, books forgotten. It was very comfortable. They enjoyed each others presence for a few minutes.
Harry's head twitched a little as he blinked a few times, "I'm back" he said with a slight smile.
Draco wetly chucked "welcome back Scarface."
Harry lifted his hand "tempus" he said.
1:47pm floated in the air.
"Do you want to go back?" He asked Draco.
"Yeah of course."
The lights brightened as they both stood up, Harry grabbed Draco's book bag and was going to exit the same way they came in.
"Surely you're not going that way?" A voice said.
Harry jumped as he looked up towards Salazar.
"Are there other exits?" Harry asked.
"Of course"
As soon as that sentence was uttered a door had the fire in the fireplace had been extinguished and a appeared behind it, "that should lead straight towards your dorm"
"How?" Draco asked with awe painting his face
"Well Hogwarts is magical isn't she?" Salazar replied.
Harry smiled "we will see you soon Mr Slytherin."
Both Draco and Harry left, they got to the other end of the corridor and opened the door.
They stepped back into their living room through their own fireplace. "I love magic," Harry said under his breath.
Harry watched the door close and disappear, then placed the book bag onto the coffee table.
Harry heavily sat on the sofa and picked out the book Draco had "Draco, what the fuck was all that about"
"All what?"
"You know what"
Draco held his wand and had the pages turn to the passsge he read.
Harry's eyebrows lifted as he continued reading.
"Avians are very social creatures and tend to have very large 'flocks' if one is anti-social or very closed off it could be because of upbringing.
Avians are social but it is very hard to pass their gifts onto their offspring so their families/flocks may have a mixed matched image. This is normal especially if any other creature blood is competing, for example if someone had both Veela and Harpy blood the Veela would be most likely to win as they are stronger and have more efficient genes.
Creature genes do not necessarily react the same way as human genes. Punnett tables are unreliable and inheritances are completely unable to be predicted compared to how you would predict a baby with blue or brown eyes.
There are only a handful of avian races, this is because it's harder to mix a fire eagle avian with a Veela. Most mixed race babies are most likely to have no inheritance or gain a recessive gene inheritance instead of being a mix of their parents. So most avians tend to stay with their own race."
Harry was fixated on the book it had so much information on many different things. It is mostly an avian centric book.
"Hey Draco? Did the Faes have any avian blood?"
"Most likely, it was either that or Fae blood. There was a reason why they were inbred and it definitely was not to keep the blood pure like the black or gaunt family."
Harry hummed and rubbed his eyes. His stomach grumbled as he was reminded about lunch.
"Hey we still need food"
As he said that there was a knock on his door.
"Harry mate are you in there?" A very muffled Ron shouted.
"Uh, yeah mate I am" he said nervously, he did not want to see them today.
'The younger two weasleys and the muggleborn knew about a few of his plans' Death ringed in his mind.
'How much did they know? How fake did they make themselves around his presence..' He thought.
He felt slightly betrayed by them. He wanted to avoid them at all costs. But he thought about how he never knew himself so.. how much would they really know, how much did he let on and give.
"Is it alright if I come in?" Ron asked
"Erm yeah hold on I'll get the door now" Harry said as he hurriedly put the books onto the shelves.
Draco raised an eyebrow but walked towards the kitchen.
Harry went to the door and opened it.
"Hiya mate" he said with a forced smile.
"Heya Harry! I was just wondering if me and Hermione can come in for a bit. We haven't seen you in ages" he moaned, Harry then saw Hermione next to Ron.
Harry looked behind him and saw Draco putting tea on the coffee table.
"Yeah alright c'mon in" he stepped to the side as Ron and Hermionie walked into their dorm.
All three of them sat on the sofa, draco then went back to the kitchen.
"What do we have to eat?" Harry asked as he turned to his direction.
Draco turned towards them "I'm not sure what do you want?"
Ron's mouth was slightly open and Hermione elbowed him.
"Wh-" Ron's jaw then snapped closed.
"Honestly Malfoy we don't mind we can have snacks if you have any here?" Hermionie said with a smile.
"We have biscuits if that's okay?" Harry said
Draco went back into the kitchen and grabbed a few biscuit packets placed them onto the table.
"Erm- well.." Ron started.
Draco raised an eyebrow.
"Thanks Malfoy" hermionie said cheerfully. Too cheerfully on Harry's opinion.
"I'm going to go see what Zabini is doing." He tilted his head towards Harry then left.
"Jesus mate… bit anti social ain't he?" Ron laughed.
"Hm.. not really he's been fine so far to be honest" Harry said his left eye twitched a little as something screamed in the back of his mind towards Ron.
"Has he? That's good I was becoming sick of your yearly obsession with him" hermionie said
"I was not obsessed with him!" Harry yelled with a slight blush.
"Also have you been in the sun mate?" Asked Ron, his eyes roaming his skin.
"How it's September in Scotland there is no sun"
"You've become… more tanned?"
Harry then berated himself in his head. He completely forgot the fact his appearance had changed.
"Am I mate? It could be the lighting" he chuckled nervously
"No Harry he's right.. you look very different." Hermionie said.
"Harry what did you do?" Hermionie said with a furrowed brow.
He had an argument with himself in his mind.
'They are your closest friends they deserve to know!'
'But dumble-'
'This is the perfect chance to figure out how much they let on you idiot!'
Harry sighed and lifted his hand, it was second nature to him now. A piece of paper flew towards them.
The paper itself was already charmed to only show certain sections Harry would want them to see, he let them see the creature's inheritance and the blocks he had on him. He didn't want them to figure out his other powers or his social inheritances just yet.
Harry grabbed it then passed it to the other two. "Read that" he said.
As they read the blood test their mouths opened wider and wider.
"He changed your personality?" Hermionie screeched.
"What- phoenix- He.." Ron stuttered.
Harry felt a small jolt in the back of his head, the words "fake" and "lies" rang though his mind almost chanting.
Harry then realised that he could feel small bursts of their emotions, although they were small enough to only register a few.
Hermionie looked at him. "Oh Harry.." she stood up and sat next to him then hugged him.
Harry's hands shook as he hugged her back, he felt sick. He felt ill and tired from everything he knew, what they thought he did not know.
"That bastard had no right to doing this, this is illegal and psychotic what the hell was he thinking" Ron raged. Although most of it was fueled to be directed towards Harry rather than Dumbledore.
"Mate if I knew I would've hit him towards china I couldn't care less if he was on his deathbed" Ron lied. Lied to his own face, his own 'friend'.
Harry felt ill, he felt like something was scratching under his skin. He didn't want to let it out, it felt angry and violent.
Ron then put a hand on his shoulder "Do you want to show us what you got?"
Harry wiped his eyes, he was seething beneath the small smile he had shot towards them as he lied "nothing has shown up yet"
"Although I have started to… I think the book will explain it better" Harry said
'Might as well see how long they will keep this to themselves' he thought as he grabbed Fae's book. He flicked onto the avian page and let them both read the passage.
Hook.
"Has this happened yet?" Hermione said
"Yeah it happened this morning"
"Why? What caused it."
"It's so embarrassing Malfoy fell off the ladder in the libra- oh I haven't told you that" he said with a sly smile
He then recounted his and Malfoy's visit to Salazar's Library.
"Jesus mate you are dropping bombs on us today" Ron groaned with his head in his hands, although bursts of resentment and jealousy radiated off of him
Harry chucked dryly.
"As I was saying Malfoy fell off the ladder a couple metres off the ground, fair play to him he helped me out when it happened. He's the one who got the book"
"Really?" Hermione said shocked
"Well yeah, we have a truce thing going on with each other.."
Hermionie looked thoughtful, "I wonder why you, well your instincts, reacted to him so violently"
Harry shrugged his shoulders. Silently he thought why his instincts are reacting so strongly towards them.
"I also wonder what you're like when you become that way.."
"Well I'm not sure how to make it happen to be honest"
"There must be a way I'll try and see in the book"
Ron and Harry chatted for a little while as Hermione looked through the avian section.
"I think I found something, you definitely can't force it to happen but it's easy to prompt it" she then began to read the paragraph out.
'Avians are unable to force their instincts to show, although very many things can trigger it.
Sometimes if an avian is calm with its family or "flock" the instincts will show up in little ways like purring or becoming non verbal, or they will completely take control.'
"That's so… odd I've never really heard of half avians having this not even from people in my family" Ron said
"I don't know.. I wouldn't want the whole world to know that I turn into a bird over certain things" Harry replied.
Line..
Ron hummed and nodded his head "neither would I to be honest"
Harry could feel Ron thinking many words of "Use against" "trigger" ran in Harry's mind.
"Anyways, I'm not sure what I did when my 'instincts' took over" Harry added thoughtfully
Sinker…
"Well I don't envy you mate nor hermione I'd rather stay the same" Ron chuckled. He casted a quick glance at Hermione.
"I definitely would rather just have dragon scales on my skin rather than what Harry is getting," she replied.
Harry grinned at them both, "Anyways, I'm really busy guys I need to find something in the Room of Requirements"
They both nodded and he led them out of their dorm. Harry left a few minutes after them to take a stroll around the castle.
