Harry walked into his dorm and closed the door behind him. It was pretty late when he came back to the dorms.
He was pretty drained, especially with the whole creature thing and his 'friends'. Harry was ready to just put his feet up and relax, he is glad he has a lesson to look forward to in the morning.
As he walked in he saw Draco sitting on the sofa, his feet propped up on the coffee table, a book in his hand with the other one holding a porcelain cup filled with tea.
Something switched in Harry's mind as he saw the comforting environment. His shoulders relaxed with the heat of the fire as his consciousness slipped away, something else gaining control instead.
"Alright, scarhead?" Asked Draco, he looked at Harry.
Draco looked closer and saw how Harry's pupils were blown, you could slightly see the green shining through the edges.
He sighed as he put his cup down "that book wasn't lying about this being easy to trigger" he muttered.
He then looked at Harry "what's the matter now big guy?"
Harry titled his head and walked towards him then sat on the sofa.
Harry then made a chirping noise, his whole body language was like it was questioning Draco.
Draco's eyes furrowed "what?.."
Harry then huffed at him as he started to become agitated, his brow furrowed slightly. He slightly opened his arms.
"You want to.. hug?" Draco asked, his eyebrow raising in disbelief.
Harry made a humming noise back at him. Draco placed a bookmark on his page (he doesn't bunny ear thank you very much) and closed the book, putting it on the table.
"Come here then Scarface you big baby." He said, a slight flush was warming his face.
He watched Harry's face screw up, he was fighting himself again, his pupils shrinking and dilating rapidly.
"It's okay, you can if you really want to" Draco said softly
Harry might as well have jumped on Draco with how quick he hugged him, they both ended up lying down on the sofa.
Harry's eyes drooped as he watched the small fire flicker. His breathing slowed as he listened to Draco's heart. Harry hummed again, although it was soft, almost song-like.
Draco watched Harry, he put a hand in his hair and softly began to play with it. His fingers would wrap around Harry's curls, they were softer than what they look. His own eyes began to feel heavy as they both relaxed into the sofa.
Draco stiffened slightly as Harry's hands then went underneath Draco's shirt, although he relaxed as Harry wrapped his arms around Draco's torso, his green eyes darted to Draco, he looked content but aware of how intimate he was being.
Draco smiled at Harry softly silently saying that he was okay with the action, it's bizarre how they are both so content and.. comfortable in each other's presence.
A soft rumbling began to come from Harry, his chest was vibrating with the soft sound. Draco could feel how Harry's eyes were exploring him, his hands would twitch like they wanted to do the same thing.
'instincts will show up in little ways like purring' Draco remembered from the book.
The blond softly closed his eyes, he could feel Harry's breathing even out as he started to fall asleep.
After a few minutes Draco followed after, the rumbling becoming something to focus on instead of the pop recurring thoughts from previous years.
- - - -
Harry woke up on top of something, 'I'm getting deja vu' he thought as his pillow was breathing.
He cracked an eye open, and saw Draco sleeping beneath him. 'Oh for fuck sake what did I do?' He screamed in his mind, he cannot remember anything from last night, only vague snippets of emotions and blurry memories.
He looked to the side and saw '6:32 am' already floating in the air. He softly raised his head, he didn't want to get up, but alas it is a Monday morning.
He huffed, and slowly peeled himself off Draco. Harry then walked towards the bedroom to grab clothes for his shower.
"'Arry?.." he heard Draco mutter
"Yeah?"
"What's 'a 'ime"
"6:32 in the morning"
Draco groaned and slowly sat up. "M'kay.."
"I'm going to have a shower"
Draco nodded his head in response
Harry walked into the bathroom and locked the door. The feathers have travelled down to the middle of his back and have gone further to his right arm, almost touching the starting of it.
He then jumped into the shower, it is cold like he normally has it to make sure he quickly washes instead of being lazy in a warm one, Vernon gave him a lashing when he spent nearly ten minutes having a shower.
'Wasting my well earned water you freak!' He screamed as his face became a violent plum colour.
Harry blinked away the memory and focused on finishing his shower.
Harry wrapped the maroon towel around his middle, he brushed his teeth and then inspected his shoulder and back. He didn't see any irritation on his skin around the feathers, overall they looked healthy in his opinion.
He shrugged and put his white polo shirt on then pulled his outer robe on top of it. Finally he slipped his trousers on and neatly tied his tie.
He brushed his hair, although it was no use seeing as it made it look worse rather than better.
'Ah well' he sniggered at his reflection.
Harry then checked the time '6:45 am' ; it left enough time for Draco to quickly have a shower.
He wandered out of the bathroom then checked his school bag to see if he had enough equipment with him, it became a habit to check after one to many arguments with Hermione about leaving his quills.he busied himself around the room, cleaning up the dust on his side of the room and even setting Draco's bed for him.
He put his bag on his shoulder, as he walked into the living room he saw Draco who was fully dressed and ready to leave.
Draco raised an eyebrow as he saw the state of Harry's hair,
"Potter, have you ever heard of gel? You know what, I'll show you how to properly manage that nest over the weekend. Deal?"
Harry chuckled at Draco,
"What would I owe you if you blessed me with your knowledge oh great one"
The blonde laughed at Harry,
"You will only owe me the favour of actually looking good during the week"
Harry dramatically gasped as he put a hand on his chest he started to show his inner Sirius Black,
"I don't look good? Are you saying I'm ugly Draco!"
He pressed his body against the doorframe, he was leaning over like he was in pain.
"I can't- my luscious hair was violated! Violated I tell you! My poor heart can't take this."
They both laughed loudly, they felt carefree.
Harry wiped away tears and took off his glasses.
He turned serious, he could see clearly without them.
"What..." Harry muttered as he turned to Draco.
Harry's mouth opened, he saw things better without them, Draco's face wasn't just pale and smooth, it also had freckles that dotted around his face like stars. His eyes were a mesmerising grey tone that had flecks of blue bleeding in them.
"Oh my god.." Harry put a hand on his mouth, he then grinned. He grinned wide.
"Harry what.."
"I can see! I can see without these grimy things!" He yelled in excitement.
Draco looked at him, "really? Wait, can you see better?"
Harry nodded his head so quickly that it nearly flew off his shoulders. "I mean it makes sense seeing as I have healing properties now.. this means my inheritance has formed even more. I wonder what it will be like when it is 100%"
He shook his head and laughed again, mostly out of shock. "I need- oh my god… let's get down the breakfast oh Merlin." He said, placing his glasses on the table.
"Together?" Asked Draco, his eyebrow raised.
"You know what, let's give this castle something to talk about. I'm in one of them moods to fuck with them all" He grinned slyly. Draco smirked with him.
They both left the year eight tower together shoulder to shoulder. When they reached the busier corridors of the castle many of the students that watched the twos rivalry stood and stared. Nearly everyone's eyes were bulging out of their skull with how shocked they looked.
Harry laughed towards Draco, both were animatedly talking with one another talking about anything and everything.
"Is that Malfoy and potter?"
"No way your lying that can't be them"
"Wonder what his father thinks about that!"
"Is Potter under the imperius curse?"
"Don't be stupid he can fight that off easy"
"Oh my Merlin.."
Harry placed a hand on his forehead dramatically, "Oh Malfoy don't brainwash me pleasee!" He wailed.
Many students' faces dropped as they realised that both Harry and Draco were… getting along?
Draco laughed with his body, his head tilted back slightly as his shoulders shook.
"Scarface, there is nothing in there to brainwash" He said, a small nearly unseeable blush on his face. The only times he had been boisterous like this in the corridors was when he would harass the golden trio.
People stared at them both like they were from a completely different universe.
"Am I in a different timeline?"
"This can't be real"
"I think these edibles are still in my system…"
They both walked into the great hall together, as soon as they stepped foot through the door shoulder to shoulder most of the pupils in the great hall stopped talking.
Harry took a look at the teachers table and saw all of them looking, Mcgonagall had turned white as a sheet and held her chest.
"What the fuck." Was audibly heard by one of the ex-Slytherins on the eight year table.
Harry had to take deep breaths walking to the table as he tried his hardest not to laugh, both him and Draco sat in their normal seats.
He turned towards Ron who was next to him and said "So.. What a Monday." He said trying to keep a smile from showing on his face as his voice echoed in the great hall.
After a few seconds most of the great hall went back to talking, most likely gossiping about them both.
"What on earth was that about? And where are your glasses!" Asked hermione. Ron shook his head in agreement.
"Well… I was in a funny mood to be honest." He grinned "I also don't need them anymore, I can see clearly"
The song "I can see clearly now" started to play in Harry's head and he started to hum to the tune, it reminded him of the time he was on liquid luck.
Hermionies hair wasn't just a brown with frizzy curls, her hair had many different colours of dark browns and blacks. Her eyes are a fierce amber that had green in the middle of her iris. Her face had dark freckles that matched her toned skin perfectly. The scales that looked like they blended into her skin actually stood out, they were bright and had a iridescent colour to them.
Ron's hair had many different tones of red and oranges scattered through it, he had a few small scars on his hands and arms and in areas of his neck from the brains in the ministry. His eyes instead of being just a dull blue were actually bright, it was like he had white paint strokes going through his iris.
"This is so cool.. this is how people normally see?" He muttered to them as his eyes jumped from one person to the next finally settling on the pile of toast on a massive plate. He grabbed a few for breakfast.
"You've never seen? Your acting like the prescription the opticians gave you didn't help." Hermionie said with a snarky tone.
"Opticians? Have you met the dursleys? They grabbed glasses from one of Vernon's family members and shoved them on my face." He said, his happy mood starting to deteriorate as the conversation developed more serious.
"Can we talk about something else." He said his face hardened as he became more uncomfortable.
The trio had an uncomfortable atmosphere, Harry huffed, he quickly ate his toast and stood up.
"I left something in my dorm, you'll see me in DADA" he lied through his teeth
He left the great hall with a fast pace, he found himself on the outskirts of the forbidden forest.
The forest felt, alive? There was a humming feeling coming from the forest that he never felt before. It was like the trees and ferns tried to talk with him.
'Angry? No? Hm?'
Something said in the back of his head. He paused and looked around, he didn't see anyone around him. He turned to the trees.
"What?"
He then saw a black crow hop towards him in the corner of his eye.
'Angry? Hm?' It said again in the back of his head.
"How?.." he leaned down towards it. "How are you talking to me?"
Its head swivelled as it looked at him.
'Not Death? Huh?'
Then it clicked in Harry's head.
"Oh! No uhm, I'm the Master of Death." It felt like he was telling the bird his biggest secret.
He heard wings flapping then suddenly he had claws digging into his shoulder.
'Master! Happy. Long time, lonely.' It had said, the feathers ruffled slightly.
Harry smiled sadly as he remembered hedwig, he then softly petted the crows head.
"You've been lonely have you bud?" He said softly, animals have always been his kryptonite.
'lonely. No human'
"I understand, my bird is gone as well. Lonely" he had said back.
'Lonely?' It had chirped sadly, it had drawn a slow sullen noise from deep in Harry's chest.
'Bird? How? Hm?' Its head tilted towards him.
"I'm part bird yes, phoenix" he said back
The bird hopped from one foot to the other.
'Together? Death said. Hm?' The bird asked.
Harry was frozen, he didn't want to move on from his other counterpart yet. Although this one seemed to be handpicked for him. His hand reached towards the bird again as he petted it. The fact he could talk to it might make his feather problems easier to manage rather than reading though many different books.
"When we are both ready we can" he replied
'Crow not ready. Told him.'
"Me neither, what is your name by the way? I didn't ask."
'Name.. My human called Marax. You? Hm?'
"Marax.. that's a very fitting name. Mine is Harry or Hadrian."
'Hadrian, Death's token.' Marax told him.
"Death's token?"
'You protected, token. Like star child, yours.'
"Star child?"
'Mhm! Star child, your token'
Harry's brow furrowed "I haven't got a token"
'Mhm! Fate, star child yours.'
"Fate?.. star child…" he pondered but no matter how he had tried to make sense of what Marax had said, he had no clue who 'star child' is.
"Listen Marax, I have to get to my class, is it alright if you stay here or if you go where the owls are?"
'Owls, food, yes. Wait for Harry.'
Harry nodded his head and then the bird took flight. His legs moved on autopilot as he walked to DADA.
Harry trudged up to the castle entrance, he wiped his shoes and then made his way to Lupins class.
Everyone was lining up outside ready for the doors to open. He walked to Hermione and Ron then stood next to them.
He engaged with idle conversation with them both as he tried to figure out who 'star child' could be.
After a minute or so, Remus opened the door.
"Good morning everyone" he said with a smile, he moved to the side of the doors to let everyone inside.
It took a few seconds for people to settle down, as Remus waited he had started to write on the black board.
Everyone had stopped talking and turned to take at the front of the classroom ready for the bizarre lesson he had planned for them.
"Now this lesson may be controversial for some of you, but in my opinion I think it is something that everyone should know about," he said as he pulled away from the board.
'Creature inheritances' was written at the top.
Many gasps and murmurs rang through the classroom, Harry stiffened as did many others in the classroom,
"I know, this is a very.. closed practice between families. So no one will be forced to say or speak about their inheritances if they have any." Many students had exhaled the breath they were holding.
"Although, if you want to talk about or say you have an inheritance. You can now, it may help others who have no idea what these things are." He continued.
Hermionie looked around, she then slowly raised her hand. Many looked at her in shock, even Remus looked taken aback.
"Yes miss Granger?"
"Uhm, well I found out over the holidays that I erm. I have an.. inheritance."
Many (mainly purebloods) started to whisper,
"A mudblood with creature blood?"
"What in Merlin's name?"
"How on earth…"
"Would you like to elaborate on your inheritance?" Remus asked, raising his voice above the whispers.
"Well, it isn't very strong. I have dragon scales littered across my body and they act as permanent armour and make my skin tougher than usual" she explained.
"Now, that is a very good example of how inheritances can influence people in different ways. They can form like Miss Grangers in a very insignificant manner and only boost certain things. Although, they can also show extravagantly and change many different things like appearance, diet and even bone structure."
An ex-Hufflepuff then raised their hand, Harry then recognised him as Wayne Hopkins.
"Yes Mr Hopkins?"
"Well," Hopkins cleared his throat, "I have a small vampire inheritance, it completely changed my diet to eat mostly uncooked meat and I can't eat garlic, uhm it also changed my teeth and skin complexion."
"Yes another good example, thanks for explaining Mr Hopkins"
Harry pondered on saying something, but he didn't want people coming to him for things like pheonix tears and he didn't want it to become another thing people fixate on about him.
Many other students had explained their minor changes due to their inheritances.
"Now, as you can all see apart from Miss Granger nearly everyone who has a creature inheritance is a half-blood or a pureblood. This is because they are more likely to have a type of creature blood in them. Most of the creature population are half veelas, Half Faes, Half Goblins or any other creatures who have a type of humanity in them. Someone like Miss Granger is more rare to find as the creature is not human-like at all.
Creatures are also hard to mix together, to find someone who is a mix of two creatures is difficult because ninety-nine percent of the time one part of their creature blood overpowers the other and makes an appearance."
Harry pondered on his own inheritance, it wasn't a perfect mix. But they both work together. The basilisk made him an earth phoenix, although his whole inheritance has not shown yet so he does not know if he will gain any type of power from his basilisk half.
Remus watched his clock on the wall strike 8:40, "and that is today's lesson complete, if anyone has any questions please ask. Also come to me if any of you want to have more information on their creatures or about how creature inheritances started to show. Have a good day everyone!"
It was break next, and Harry was intrigued to talk to his new.. companion?
