Peter was at the Daily Bugle looking over some pictures he had taken of Spider-Man and Ghost Spider. Selling these pictures was now his only income as MJ suddenly got blacklisted from every modelling agency, and if that wasn't bad, they had been evicted from their apartment.

He strongly suspected that Jonathan Caesar was to blame for this, but sadly, he had no proof. The man clearly had many contacts despite being in prison. He seriously couldn't believe his luck; the only good thing that had ever happened to him in years was marrying MJ.

"You right, Peter?" Robbie asked as he walked up to him.

Peter sighed. "I'm fine, Robbie; I just got a lot of problems at home."

Robbie nodded sympathetically. "I take it that both you and your wife are still reeling from Jonathan Caesar. Still can't believe that he kidnapped a wife just so he could marry."

"To think she was right under my nose the entire time," said Peter frustratingly. "I knew there was something off about Caesar with the way that he talked to MJ, but I just assumed it was my jealousy."

"Guess that's the price of marrying a beautiful supermodel," Robbie smiled.

"She's not a supermodel now she's been blacklisted," said Peter. "So my only income is selling these pictures to JJ, and that's barely scraping us by. Not to mention, it is putting a lot of pressure on Aunt May. Since we've been evicted, we have had to stay with her and MJ's cousin Kristy."

"I wish I could help you, son, but Jonah is the one who controlled the cheques."

"I appreciated Robbie, but I'm starting to think that I was born under an unlucky star. First, my parents died in a plane crash; my uncle was then murdered; my girlfriend got tossed off a bridge and died and now this mess."

Robbie placed a hand on his shoulder. "You've certainly been through a lot more than anyone your age should ever go through, but count your blessings. Your supersmart, you have a beautiful wife and a lovely aunt."

Peter nodded. "Thanks, Robbie, but I'm starting to think that I need a new career. I am really starting to consider getting my PhD."

"I would go for it, son," Robbie encouraged.

"Yeah, but if I'm going to continue paying the bills, I'm going to need a much better job," Peter sighed. "I appreciate Jonah giving me this chance, but to be honest, I don't see myself staying here for the duration."

Robbie nodded. "Don't worry about Jonah; despite his bluster, he truly cares about his employees. You know he was the one who wanted us to print about your wife's abduction. Though he claims that Ghost Spider was working with the kidnappers."

Peter chuckled. "When Ghost Spider first appeared, I thought he was gonna blow a blood vessel."

"Parker!" Jonah roared from his office. "Get your sorry hiding in here now!"

"Coming, JJ!" Peter yelled and dashed towards his office.

Once inside, he immediately presented his photos to JJ.

"Rubbish! Boring!" he grumbled as he flipped through them. "Are these really the best you can offer?"

"If you don't want them, I can take them away," Peter shrugged.

"No, I'll take them here is $300," he said, handing Peter the cheque.

"You're as generous as always, JJ," Peter sighed, knowing the photos would work more than this.

"What was that?" Jonah asked.

"Nothing," said Peter.

"Then get out!" Jonah barked.

Peter left the office, and Robbie entered a few seconds later.

"I seriously don't get that kid," Jonah grumbled. "Any news on this Ghost Spider? Was she working with that creep Caesar?"

Robbie sighed. "Jonah, she rescued Peter's wife; I very much doubt she had anything to do with her kidnapping."

"Then how did she find her so quickly?" Jonah questioned.

"You said the same thing about Spider-Man sabotaging your son's space capsule," Robbie reminded him.

"Bad enough, there was one web-slinging menace; now there's a second one, and this one is a woman," Jonah grunted. "What's next, spider kids swinging around Manhattan?"

Gwen had just heard that Felicia Hardy was back in town, and she suspected she might try to rekindle what she had with Peter. Nationally, she was concerned that she might harm MJ in some way, so she began searching for her.

Then, one night, she saw Felicia breaking into Peter and MJ's old apartment and instantly followed her inside.

"I'm afraid they've been evicted," said Gwen as she sat at the window.

Felicia, in her Black Cat costume, turned on her. "Ah, you must be the Ghost Spider. I've heard so much about you're the Spider's new partner in crime."

"I am," she said, folding her arms. "And I know who you are, Felicia Hardy."

"I don't suppose you'll tell me where the Spider is?" Black Cat asked.

"He and his wife are currently living with his aunt after being evicted from this place," Ghost Spider informed her. "And I would appreciate it if you try not to rip MJ to shreds."

Black Cat snarled. "I disappeared a few months, and suddenly, he's married to some ordinary woman."

"I would hardly call MJ ordinary," said Ghost Spider. "And you're not the only one who has feelings for Peter."

Black Cat looked at her curiously. "You're into the Spider as well?"

"No, I'm into the man behind the mask," Ghost Spider corrected and then chuckled. "I'm into Peter Parker, and you're into Spider-Man, but neither of us like the other guy."

"I still do find it hard to believe that Spider-Man was some college nerd," Black Cat admitted.

"And I blamed Spider-Man for my father's death," Gwen sighed. "I was completely shocked when I discovered that he was my boyfriend, and it killed me."

Black Cat looked at her suspiciously. "What do you mean by that?

"I'm saying it really did kill me," she said. "Believe it or not, I died, but a powerful wizard brought me back. I think you had prior experience with Doctor Strange."

"More than a little," said Black Cat, looking a little uncomfortable. "But why were you brought back, and why haven't you tried getting back together with the Spider?"

"Because I was given a mission to make sure that his marriage to MJ remains intact," Gwen informed her.

Grew began to explain everything to Felicia, including the fact that she had both Peter's and MJ's memories and that a powerful demon had been manipulating their lives.

Black Cat looked at her as if she were insane, and Gwen had to admit that it sounded crazy.

"You expect me to believe that the devil has been manipulating their lives out of fear that a child of theirs would vanquish him?"

"He's not the devil that someone else, but essentially yes."

"I think that mask of yours is gripping your skull too tightly."

"Felicia, we live in a world where the impossible seems to happen on a daily basis. Now, after all the things that have happened in the past few years, you can't say that this is the craziest thing you've ever heard."

"Okay, point taken," Black Cat conceded. So, what? Do you want me to stay out of their lives?"

"You could try being friends with MJ," said Gwen.

"I've never really had any friends," said Black Cat. "Besides, what makes you think she wants to be friends with me?"

"I don't know, but you could try."

Gwen then left Felicia. She didn't know whether she would have been successful in convincing her to be friends with MJ, but she had to try.

Harry was finally released from the mental institution and married Liz Allan. He even had a son, whom he named Normie. Unfortunately, that was not the end of the Green Goblin. He began experimenting with a new formula and became convinced that his father was a good man, and Peter resented his family.

The new serum increased his strength but also drove him deep into madness. In one instance, he kidnapped his wife, his son, and his wife's stepbrother and announced that he was going to continue the Green Goblin legacy. Both Peter and Gwen intervened and took him down.

Peter tried to get Harry some help, but he was instead transferred to the Vault. Equally unfortunate, his wife refused to testify against him, and he was soon released without evidence.

Gwen knew very well that Harry, at some point, died as he was replaced by a clone created by his father. She had a strong suspicion that it had something to do with the Green Goblin formula he exposed himself to and instantly began working on an antidote.

Fortunately, she was able to get access to a laboratory to work on that thanks to no small part from Nick Fury.

"You're quite sure this is going to help?" Fury asked as she watched her create the antidote.

"I don't know, but I don't believe it could hurt," she said.

"The guy flies around on a glider following pumpkin bombs all over the place," Fury reminded her. "He's also insane."

"That's mostly down to his father; the Harry I knew was timid and had a good heart," she said. "It's not his fault that he had an abusive father who belittled him every single chance he got."

"I will concede the Norman Osborn is a nasty piece of work," Fury admitted.

"I'm just trying to free Harry from his father's shadow; he's got a wife and a son. Even if this doesn't help Peter, I feel as if I've helped Harry."

"But are you sure you'll be able to create an antidote for this new goblin serum?"

"I've got Peter's memories, and there was a time when he created an antidote for the goblin serum. I should be able to create an antidote from his memories and Norman's notes, which your agents required for me."

"I hope you know what you're doing," said Fury as he walked out of the room.

Gwen sighed. "So do I."

Over the next few weeks, Harry became slightly more unstable. He even kidnapped MJ and took him to the Brooklyn Bridge. Fortunately, MJ convinced him to stand down by pointing out that he, she, and Peter all came from slightly broken families.

Harry took her back home to the new apartment, which, ironically, he gave Peter. Peter was less than happy to see him, and it nearly led to a fight. MJ was able to convince him to stand down, and Harry left, but neither of them knew how to help him.

Fortunately, Gwen finished her antidote for the goblin formula and quickly approached Peter to inform.

"You sure this will work?" he asked doubtfully as he looked at the antidote.

"There's only one way to find out," she said.

"It could kill him," Peter pointed out.

"He's gonna get himself killed; you've seen how unstable he then," she pointed out. "I fear that the new goblin serum he exposed himself to is slowly killing him; this may be the only way to cure him."

"Why do you want to help Harry?" Peter asked curiously. "I mean, you hardly know him."

"Actually, I do," said Gwen.

Peter sighed. "Another one of your secrets?"

"And I wish I didn't have to hide anything from you, but he knew, of all people, how important it is to keep secrets. I mean, you still haven't told your aunt that you're Spider-Man."

"Leave my aunt out of his."

"Look, it's not just Harry. I'm concerned about it; it's also his wife and son," said Gwen. "Do you really want his son to grow up without a father?"

Peter sighed. "All right, I'll trust you on this."

Once Peter got into costume, they began making their way to Harry's apartment, and Peter could not help but look at Ghost Spider.

She claimed that she knew Harry and that her father was a member of the police, plus there was something familiar about her voice. There was also the fact that she appeared to be quite a skilled scientist if she was able to make this antidote.

However, he was brought out of his thoughts when they reached Harry's apartment, but no sooner had they landed on the roof his spider-sense triggered.

"Uh, oh," he said and looked at Ghost Spider. "You sense that too?"

"I'm afraid so," she nodded.

Then, suddenly bursting out of the skylight, Harry was riding on his glider in his Green Goblin outfit.

"I knew I should have ended you, Petey, when I have a chance!" Harry yelled as he threw a pumpkin bomb at him. "The same goes for your sidekick?"

"Partner!" Ghost Spider corrected. "I'm a little too old to be anyone's sidekick."

"Not really the time, Ghost Spider," said Peter, quickly jumping at Harry and punching him across the face. "Also, I'll take more than a pumpkin bomb to take me out, Har! And to be brutally honest, you don't have it in you!"

Harry quickly recovered and slammed a powerful blow at Peter. "You still don't understand; my father's formula has transformed me." He then began putting his hands around Peter's throat. "I've now got the strength to crush you like the insignificant insect that you are!"

"Spiders are arachnids, not insects!" Ghost Spider yelled, pulling him off Peter.

They soon began finding themselves in a three-way wrestling match and accidentally fell through the skylight, landing in Harry's apartment building.

"Harry, we only came here to help!" Ghost Spider pleaded.

"The help Peter gave my father when he murdered him in cold blood?" Harry roared as he tossed her into the wall.

"I didn't kill your father; he killed himself!" Peter yelled, grabbing hold of him from behind.

Harry, however, managed to grab hold of him and slammed him onto the floor. "Lies! Well, it doesn't matter because this is where it ends." He then grabbed his glider, and a blade shot out of its mouth. "I'm going to kill you the same way you killed my father!"

He then slammed his glider down towards Peter, but thankfully, he was able to roll out of the way in time. He then quickly fired some webbing, wrapping it around Harry's waist and wrapping his arms.

"All you're doing is repeating your father's mistakes, Harry," said Peter. "It's time for this cycle to end."

"Never!" Harry yelled as he snapped free from the webs. "It'll never end!"

Ghost Spider then performed a roundhouse kick, but Harry caught and tossed her over to Peter.

"Have to admit the new goblin serum is a lot stronger than the last," said Peter.

"Which means the side effects are even worse," said Ghost Spider. "We need to end this once and for all, if we're to save him."

"I don't need saving!" said Harry as he launched himself at them. He then knocked Ghost Spider aside and injected Peter with something from his gloves. "I think you're the ones who need saving, not me."

Peter suddenly felt groggy and barely able to remain conscious; he soon realised that he had been drugged.

Harry then pulled out a detonator. "This is where it ends, old friend. In two minutes, this entire building will go up in flames and take us with it."

He leaned against the wall and pulled off his mask, looking exhausted. "Let's face it, Peter, people like us are toxic. The people around us would be far better off without us."

"Harry, don't do this," Ghost Spider pleaded. "Believe me, life is too precious to be thrown away. You have to accept the good with the bad. And what about your son? Are you going to leave him fatherless?"

"He would be better off without me," said Harry, and then his eyes widened as he realized something. "Oh no, Mary Jane… Norman, they're still in the house!"

"What?!" Peter gasped.

"What have I done?" said Harry, horrified. "Oh, by God, what have I done?"

"We've got to get them out of here," said Ghost Spider. "I'll grab Peter. You grab MJ and your son."

Harry nodded and immediately jumped on his glider and took off.

Ghost Spider grabbed Peter and exited through the window. They just saw Harry flying out of the main door carrying MJ and his son, and about 30 seconds later, the entire building exploded.

"That was too close," said Ghost Spider.

"I nearly killed my son," said Harry, horrified and then suddenly collapsed.

"Harry?" MJ gasped she held onto Normie. "What's happening to him?"

"Just as I fear the new goblin formula, it's overtaxing his body," said Ghost Spider. "He's dying."

"The antidote," said Peter desperately.

Ghost Spider pulled out the antidote and poured it into Harry's mouth. "I hope it works."

"If it doesn't, I'm sorry for everything," said Harry weakly. "And Peter, you are my best friend."

He then closed his eyes and went silent for a brief moment, thinking he had died, but Ghost Spider placed her fingers against his neck and could feel a pulse.

"He's alive, but it seems as if he's in a coma," she said.

"Will he wake up?" Peter asked.

"Only time will tell."
