Chapter 31

Children

Bella

After I took a shower, I went to my room.

Emmett had said goodbye to my dad earlier and was driving the Jeep home.

Of course, he was now sitting in my room again. I hopped onto his lap and wrapped my arms around him.

"Oh Emmett, please come next time too. Then it will be twice as much fun," I begged him.

"If you're going to ask me so nicely, I'll come with you next time," he said, giving me a kiss on the tip of my nose.

As I was with the wolves today, it occurred to me that Emmett was actually quite similar to them. If he had the same dark skin as they did, you could easily mistake him for one of the pack. Like them, he was huge and muscular, outspoken and funny, and up for any scuffle. I chuckled softly at the thought of what he would say if he knew I was comparing him to the wolves.

"Why are you giggling like a little schoolgirl?", he asked me.

"I was just thinking about what Jacob called Edward," I lied offhandedly.

He looked at me questioningly.

"Jerkward," I laughed, and he shook with laughter because he wasn't allowed to laugh out loud because of Charlie. "What do you want to do tomorrow?", I asked him.

"How about we go to my house?", he suggested. "Esmé would like to talk to you sometime. I don't know why. She said it's about women's issues," he added.

I wonder what Esmé wanted to talk to me about.

I crawled off his legs and into my bed.

Emmett lay down behind me and pulled me to him.

"Good, then we'll go to your place tomorrow. You owe me a rematch at 'Mortal Kombat' anyway," I said, turning my head so I could kiss him. "Good night, my Teddy," I whispered, snuggling closer to his naked torso.

"Sleep tight."

He gave me three little kisses on my back, and I shuddered slightly at the feeling.

The sun and swimming had made me tired, and I quickly fell asleep.

When there was a knock on the door, I woke up and looked at the door.

Emmett stood behind the door grinning at me as my dad opened the door and Emmett pressed himself against the wall to avoid detection.

Of course, he could have just disappeared out the window for a moment, but that was probably too boring for him.

"Hi, Dad, what are you doing so early?", I asked and yawned.

"Bella, it's almost noon. It's half past eleven. I thought I'd see if you were still asleep," he said, amused, and closed the door again.

Emmett came over to me on the bed, propped his arms to my left and right, and kissed me gently.

His tongue ran over my lower lip, and I granted him entry. He stroked over my belly up to my breasts. I sighed softly and arched my back. He pulled up my T-shirt and licked my breasts with his tongue. I already felt the tingling in my abdomen and pressed my hips against his.

I stroked over his muscular chest.

He sighed and rolled off of me.

I looked at him pleadingly.

"Sorry Bella, but you know we can't with your dad here," he said.

What? First he made me horny and then he just left me lying there? That would give revenge.

I sat on him and could clearly feel his member under the boxers. I circled a little with my hips.

"Bell ... ahh ..." he sighed.

I smiled and put on an innocent face.

"What is it, Emmy?", I asked in a sweet innocent voice, while I felt exactly how his penis got harder under me.

I stroked his muscular chest.

He lifted me up by the hips and laid me next to him on the bed.

"You're driving me crazy!", he whined and sat up.

The bulge in his pants was clearly visible.

"You drove me just as crazy," I justified myself and sat up to get dressed.

When I finished, Emmett disappeared out the window.

"Dad, I'm going to the Cullens," I informed him and walked out to my truck.

When I was out of sight of our house, I heard Emmett jump on the truck and climb into the passenger seat as I drove.

"Very human."

"Come on, no one saw," he said with a grin.

I rolled my eyes.

When we arrived at the Cullens, Alice and Jasper were in front of the TV.

"Hi, Bella," they greeted me.

Alice came prancing up to me and hugged me.

We sat down with them and watched the 'Jerry Springer Show' for about twenty minutes when Esmé stood in the doorway and cleared her throat. She looked over at me. Her look was thoughtful.

"Bella ... dear, could I talk to you alone for a moment?", she asked.

I got up and ran after her, outside into the woods.

She probably wanted to be far enough away so the others couldn't hear her.

She stopped in a small clearing with a felled tree. She sat down on the tree, although she did not need to sit down.

"Come and sit down, dear," she kindly invited me.

Her voice was so warm and motherly.

I sat down with her, eager to hear what she had to say.

"Bella, Emmett wants to turn you into a vampire and, of course, we're all very excited that you can then join our family forever. But there's something you need to think about," she said, taking my hand in hers. "Do you know my history before Carlisle turned me?" she asked me.

I shook my head.

"Edward only told me you fell off a cliff."

That's all I knew, and I wasn't sure what she was getting at.

"So fallen doesn't quite cover it. I jumped, dear," she said, a little ashamed.

Did you mean that Esmé wanted to kill herself? I couldn't imagine that such a kind-hearted soul could take her own life. Why? I didn't want to ask, because she would surely tell me the reason.

"I had just turned twenty-six when my greatest wish came true. I found out I was pregnant. It was going to be a boy."

Her hands slid to her flat stomach as if automatically. Her eyes shone as she talked about the baby.

"We already had a name ... Gabriel." Silence reigned briefly. "I couldn't hold him in my arms even once. Immediately after birth, it was determined that something was wrong with his heart. They tried to save him, but the resources at the time were limited. He passed away and I didn't want to live with the void he left behind. Carlisle found me then and saved my life and transformed me. Now I have my adopted children as a substitute. But I could never forget the desire to have my own child, even though it is impossible," she said sadly.

I was horrified by this story and felt incredibly sorry for Esmé. Slowly I understood what she was getting at.

"Bella, you still have that opportunity. You could have your own children and be a real mother to them. I know you're still young and not thinking about kids yet. But in a few years?"

I didn't know what to say.

"It almost broke Rosalie inside that she was stuck in a body that couldn't change. A body that could never carry a child. And it tortured me to see her like that. I don't want you to suffer like that someday. Please think about it," she said then and stood up.

"Esmé ... thank you for telling me all this," I said, not knowing what else to say.

We walked back together, and my thoughts circled.

She was right. I would definitely like to have children someday. But not yet. But I didn't want to stay human until I was thirty and Emmett still looked twenty, just to have kids. Besides, Emmett was already a vampire and even if I stayed human, I couldn't have children by him. Esmé had given me a lot to think about.
