Chapter 4
Adjusting and Dealing
Author's Note: Thank you all so much for following my story all of you, thank you all so much. And I know the bullying is extreme but I did that on purpose, again, sometimes, some people have gone through extreme bullying, and I am doing this like an example. I'm doing this for shock factor and reasons, why people wouldn't want to return home really.
But standing up for yourself can help a lot, and standing up to a bully is amazing. But, sometimes doing that can make it worse from a bully.
I am still thinking on what else to do in the future, living, and moving on from a civilian, let's see how this works out, so here we go!
*Smack*
That is what was heard, and felt in the whole room, and part of the huge house. Jaune, was smacked by his father, who was angry and disappointed. The family who were there, looked on with shock, the Arc Patriarch never raised a hand to his children like that, unless if it was spanking, or other kinds of discipline, but never like this.
When Jaune got in his sister, all gave him some kind of ear full, saying how dumb he was, how foolish he was, did he have a death wish, do you know how worried we were, etc. The same with his mother with a turn speaking too, with a hug, and tears, showing how scared she was for him. Jaune appreciated it, but he wished that they would praise him for something. But, then there was Nathaniel, who just walked up to his son and slapped him.
"You absolute fool! I told you not to go, I told you that you were not going to be a huntsman! Do you know how worried, we all were?!" Nate yelled at his son for doing what he did. Jaune was a little shocked himself, but kept a straight face when his father yelled at him, it was nothing new of saying you can't do this.
"Dad, this was my dream, I had to take a risk, I wanted a chance, and you never gave me it, none of you did." Jaune spoke evenly, looking at his father in the eye.
Nate was still angry at his son, and he let it be known. "I knew you were going to do something like this, I just didn't know when, all the money you saved up, I knew something was up. And, I knew you wouldn't try to get into an Academy by legal means, I had a feeling you did something like that, when I seen the acceptance letter." Nate said while in anger, but kept his voice in check. "How did you do it Jaune, how were you accepted?" Nate pressed. Everyone was quiet, and Jaune could hear his heart beat in his ears, he was so terrified right now, but he pressed on and spoke.
"I bought some fake transcripts to get in, I turned them in before initiation." Jaune said in low monotone voice, looking down in frustration, disappointment, and fear. Jaune's mother and sister gasped from what they heard. They didn't expect their awkward son/ brother to do that.
Nate was quiet and looked at him in silent rage, and disappointment. Then he let out a chuckle. "Heh, it's a good thing that the academies upped their security. I'm glad they caught on that your transcripts were faked. Initiation would have been the death of you son. Ozpin liked to teach initiates landing strategies, I'm glad that they stopped you and sent you home, your lucky you weren't arrested, he probably pitied you, unprepared, and hopeful, but your safe now. You can go back to school in a few days to calm your mind down, hopefully you will find a good career in the future, and by home the better." Nathaniel said, in a calm voice, and about to leave the room, when Jaune looked at him with shock and then it turned to rage, and told him out flat.
"I survived Initiation." Jaune said to his father His looked back at him "Wha" "I SURVIVED INTITIATION!" Jaune yelled at his father. Shocking his sisters, mother, and his father. "I was launched off that cliff, scared out of my mind. And, I would have died, but I was saved by someone." Jaune revealed. "You should have ran away Jaune, you can't do what hunters do, there are reasons why we hunters can do what we do, you probably seen it, you probably had to run and hide from the grim that had to be a scary experience son." Nathaneil said to Jaune with some sympathy.
"I have my aura unlocked." Jaune revealed
His family was in utter shocked. "That friend who saved me found me, and told me about aura and what it does for us, I have it unlocked thanks to her, thanks to her, and others I was able to survive and fight, and support them during all of this. I had fought side by side with them, I helped kill a grim, I lead them to victory, I survived, but I failed because, I couldn't find a partner, and get a relic to pass. But, damn it, dad, I did something. I was given a chance from some great people I met over there, and I was told, I have potential. I had what it takes, and you stomped on my dream, and never let me be more!" Jaune finished with angry tears in his eyes.
Everything was quiet, until his father sighed. "Son, I know I didn't indulge in your little dream. But you don't need to lie to me."
Jaune's eyes widen, his father didn't believe a word he said.
"I know your desperate to be something your not, or can never be, but you just didn't have skill, or resolve, you always gave up on other things almost easily you, would have just dropped that like usual. But, being this desperate to show that you want to be a huntsman by lying to me is just really disappointing Jaune." Nate was about to continue when he seen his son glowing, his jaw dropped, and eyes widened, he couldn't believe it. Then he has seen Jaune fish out his scroll, and showed him pictures, of two girls both red heads hugging him, and posed with him.
"These are the two girls who believed in me, and the one with the crimson hair unlocked my aura for me and she said, I have a lot of it, it truly helped during our fight. And, I was attacked by a beowolf on the way home, thankfully only one, while I helped to kill a grim at Beacon, I killed this one on my own, so tell me father." Jaune said to his father with such conviction, and righteous fury. "Tell me I am ready!" Jaune yelled to his father. They stood their silent for a minute with his father looking down, not saying a word. Jaune shook his head about to head to his room to cry silently, and sleep.
"I was afraid you know?" Nate said to his son, while Jaune still had his back to his father. "I was afraid of losing you. I have seen huntsmen and huntresses die in the field, even younger ones, almost those around your ages, crying for their mothers, or fathers as they died." Nate said starting to have a shaky voice. "I was there, for their final moments, and every time I have seen them as my own children." "I lost my own team mate, and I couldn't help!" He spoke his tears starting to show, and go down. "I have seen them as any of your sisters, none of them had shown any interest in being a huntress, and I was ok with that, I was happy and relieved, but then you were interested I instantly seen those dead hunters, and I saw you dying, I was afraid of losing you!" His voice had risen, and shocking his family, they have never seen this man cry, only those to have see him cry was his wife, and his oldest. Nathenial was always the rock of the family, and to see him crumble was hard to watch.
"I can't see you risking your life, while others are just as capable, even more so. You don't need to risk your life for others, let them handle it son." Nate said to him, he fell to his knees crying a little now. All was silent, and Jaune walked to his father and gave him a hug, and he hugged back. Hoping he was getting through his son, hoping that he understood. But to his shock his son stood firm and heard it in his voice.
"I'm so sorry that you went through that dad, truly I am. But, I knew what I was getting into. I heard about the issues that people went through. I heard other hunters stories, I was shocked and disgusted." Jaune said to his father. "I did research on what has been happening in other places around the world, how the grim kill, and others kill, and robbed, and done other unspeakable things to others." Jaune said his voice getting fiercer.
"And you know what I thought?" Jaune questioned, not just his father, but everyone in the room. "I felt that I can do something, that I can make a difference for them regardless of the consequences. The Arc lineage was always viewed with heroism, and doing great works. I felt this as my calling, I felt that I can honor our ancestors, and be a hero that people could have." Jaune said now releasing his father. "And don't say anything about me being a fool of me being a hero, I am aware of the implications, I was ready to risk it so, others can still have their families to go home to. I have all of you, and we haven't lost anyone, thank the gods, but others, don't have that happiness or relief of a home with others, and I wanted to give them something!" Jaune raised his voice looking at his wide eyed family.
"But, you didn't support me, or even talked to me about it, if it is something that I really want to do, a father, a mother is suppose to support their children, I know some things are not meant to be supported, like crime, gangs, and the like." Jaune paused.
"But, when it's something beneficial towards others, we are meant to be supported, even in that fear." Jaune said to his family, then directly looked at his dad. "But, you dad, were so adamant on what you wanted me to do, and never gave me a choice to be better." Jaune said to his dad with a scowl.
"I'm disappointed in you dad, how dare you say let others die for me, and let me live with that. Others may have that mind set, but not me. I didn't want to be the one sitting on the sidelines while others die for me. I want to fight by them, so everyone can go home to their families! I'm just so disappointed in you dad, mom, all of you, I thought that you were all better than that." Jaune said in a disappointed tone, as he walked out of the room to go to his room.
His family just stood there in thought, and felt shame. Shame in themselves for thinking that someone else will do it, and essentially saying; 'it's not my problem'. None more than Nathenial, he was supposed to protect all humans and faunus alike, but he left out of fear. But what's done is done, his son failed, he couldn't get in. And right now he doesn't know what to do for his son right now, none of them do.
The next morning Jaune didn't leave his room. And, his sisters tried to get him to come out but, he ignored them. They couldn't blame him, they weren't there for him when they needed him to fulfill a dream. But, he always showed support in their endeavors, and they spat on his dream.
His mom was the same, trying to use loving words towards him, saying that she will always love him. All of it was true, just anything to get her son talking, and open up to them like he used to. It was night time, and Jaune hasn't said a word to any of them. They all tried again, but his father. His father was almost as quiet as he was.
Jaune left Crocea Mors outside of his room, and brought it down to put it back on their mantle. He was just staring at that ancestral blade. Thinking of all the stories it was in, and all the good it had done for all of Remnant. He had a feeling that this blade would just pick up dust if Jaune did give up his dream, and now it looks like it will. He felt like the worst parent, and man in the world right now. He kept replaying everything his son said to him, and he admitted that his son was right. He was really ok with others dying just to keep him safe. Ok with parents grieving their children, and children grieving their parents. Having the mindset, it's not my problem, so I don't care.
Just thinking that made him sick to his stomach. How could he think that, when he became a huntsman to do the same as Jaune, his motives weren't as amazing as his son's at the time, but, he swore to protect everyone, no matter the cost. And, now here he is breaking that vow, and an Arc never goes back on his word. He then gave sigh, and got up and went to his son's room.
He knocked on his son's door, and then spoke. "Jaune it's me, can I come in?" No sound no indication of him getting up. Nate sighed and started to talk. "Jaune, I know that I ruined a lot of things for you, and never believed in you, but I didn't want to see you hurt, and I was afraid to lose you." Nathenial started. "I just saw being a huntsman as a profession that just ends in death, but hearing what you said, it really made me think, and then I remembered something….I went back on my word." Jaune was listening, and widened his eyes, his father always told him on an Arc keeping their word. And, hearing him confess that, he was shocked.
"When you become a huntsman, you take a vow, to always protect, and serve, all of humanity, human and faunus alike. And, I have abandoned that ideal, by thinking that others can serve and die for us, which is why I don't do missions. I'm afraid of leaving you all in alone in this world, and wanted others to do the work, so I won't lose any of you." Nathenial confessed.
"I was being selfish of those who had lost their friends and family, and I'm sorry for playing down the severity of their plight, and I'm sorry for not giving you a chance to do something, I'm sorry not being more for you, all of you. I was willing to hide you away from the world, thinking a farmer, or a househusband will keep you safe. But, I'm not blind of what happens to you at school, I kept a mentality, at least he's safe, and when he graduates they will be gone, and he will be safe at home."
Nathenial paused, to take a breath and continue with a shacky voice.
"I'm so sorry, for how I dealt with it. I'm so sorry for not believing in you. And, I'm so sorry for not giving you a chance." Nathenial finished as he was now crying. "And, from now on Jaune, I will try to be better, and support you more, and if I am failing, I will continue to try to be better! I will always be there for you Jaune, This I Swear, As An Arc!" Nathenial Yelled out, crying his eyes out now. After 30 seconds of silence, the door opened and Jaune walked out with some tears in his eyes himself.
"Dad, you really hurt me for all these years. For not letting me to do something greater than myself. It really hurt so much, almost to the chance of me hating you." Jaune said. "But, I wanted to prove you wrong, that I can do this, and that I can be something more than what I am now. When you told me your reasons, on not training me, it nearly made me walk out the door, and hate you for the rest of my life." Jaune confessed to his father. Nate grew wide eyed in fear. He grew in fear, of losing his son forever, because of his own actions.
"But, hearing how concerned you were about me, I understood your fears, I am not a father, and I don't know if I would be anytime soon, or a husband anytime soon, with how things turned out here." Jaune said, with his father flinching, in the back of his mind, he and his wife were going to introduce Jaune to someone of their choosing, but that was before the conversation they had yesterday. It was to keep him safe in his mind.
But that was then and this is now, another guilty file to add to his conscious, and he knows he deserves to feel guilty, and will accept it.
"But, knowing now that are truly wanting to be better. And to truly show that you care, it made me happy, and relieved." Jaune finished, his father was about to hug him, but he was stopped by Jaune by holding his hand up. "But, dad, you have lost my trust in you." Jaune said looking directly into his father's eyes. "You were willing to let people die, and not care about what will happen with your actions. It is really messed dad, you will have to earn that back with me, and I have lost almost all respect for you, but if you are willing to change, and to be better. Then I will try to." Jaune then allowed his father to hug him.
The women in the house listened and gave tears of sorrow at first and then tears of joy. They started to make up, but they knew that, Jaune has lost his trust, and respect for them too, and will have to work back into his good graces again.
As they ended their hug, Nate started talking again. "I'm your willing to hear me out again son truly, but there are somethings you will have to do now since your aura is unlocked, and going to a civilian school." Nate said to him looking a bit sheepish. Jaune rose an eyebrow, not liking on where this is going. "Follow me please." Nate said to his son, as they went to the armory in the house. Where he and his wife keeps their weapons, as he went behind his desk to pick up a box, Jaune felt dread. Nathenial pulled out two cuffs, not chained together, but small enough to look like a sweat band for wrists.
He held them out to Jaune and said. "These are Aura Repressors, the military, and police uses kinds like this, but these are less constrictive, and dare I say aggressive. These are used for civilians who can't control their aura properly, or in your case going to a civilian school. It's so you won't hurt others and get yourself in trouble, so for the time being you're going to have to wear these." Nate finished, looking a little sheepish.
Jaune gave a deadpanned look at his father, at that moment he lost all respect for his father.
Author's Note: Thank you all so much for reading this chapter. I can feel that story isn't as well written as others I have seen, it seems over the top but it's how I wanted it to be. I did have some complaints about the bullying, but again, I did that to an extreme for dramatic reasons, and you will see it again, but after a while things might go differently. I am thinking of writing to see how Beacon is doing this teams RWBY, and PINR, we will see how Ilia will react to Weiss, and how things will grow with Pyrrha, and Ruby talking Jaune, and how their teams react to it. I will tell you now, Pyrrha's team will be more welcoming, but RWBY, you will have to wait and see.
See you all soon, and May God Continue To Bless You All
