Chapter 0: Part I: Before the Beginning
Long ago, before time began, there was a council of beings that governed the Omniverse. This council was referred to as the Original Powers. The Original Powers consisted of eight beings:
Reul Ghorm, the goddess of fairies
Ninjor, the god of ninjitsu
The twins, Poseidon and Ursula, the gods of the sea
Nyx, the goddess of fate
Daimyo, the god of battle
Flora, the goddess of nature
Kronos, the god of time and life, and the leader of the Original Powers
The Original Powers governed from a dimension known as the Hall of Legends. Time did not run the same in the Hall of Legends as it did the rest of the Omniverse, it ran much faster, days in the Hall of Legends would only be seconds elsewhere. The Hall of Legends primarily existed for the Original Powers to look over the Omniverse, but they each had their own realms to take of.
Kronos had Mount Olympus, where he ruled over those who had passed on and finished their business in the Underworld. He had two sons, Zeus and Hades. Zeus was in charge of Mount Olympus when Kronos was absence, while Hades had been given control of the Underworld. Another inhabitant of the Mount Olympus was a young man named Simon, who Kronos was personally training in the use of time magic. Mount Olympus was also the home to countless minor gods, such as Thor, Loki, Cupid, Moltor, and Furious.
Ruel Ghorm had the Fairy Realm, a pocket dimension located in the Fairy Tale Realm. She lived in the Fairy Realm with her fairies, with a fairy named Tiger Lily as her second in command.
Ninjor had the Temple of Power. Unlike the most of the rest of the Original Powers, Ninjor was a loner, he lived in his Temple alone.
Poseidon and Ursula did not have one set realm, but would move from ocean to ocean and from realm to realm. Despite being twins, they took on forms that looked radically different, Poseidon taking on the form of a merman and Ursula taking on the form of a cecaelia.
Nyx guarded the Well of Wonders, which existed in every realm as a result of the magical waters that run within all the realms. Like Ninjor, she was a loner.
Daimyo has the Battle Nexus, a realm close to the center of the Omniverse. The Battle Nexus did not have many native inhabitants, Gyoji being the primary inhabitant. Daimyo trusted Gyoji with keeping an eye on the Battle Nexus when he couldn't be there. While the Battle Nexus didn't have many native inhabitants, the Daimyo often held tournaments to allow people to safely test their skills against others. Once every three years, Daimyo held a massive tournament inviting the best of the best to compete to try and prove themselves to be the greatest fighter in the Omniverse. Daimyo tried to learn as many fighting techniques as possible and teach them to others, in order to make the Battle Nexus tournaments even more impressive. Daimyo even managed to convince Ninjor to teach him ninjitsu.
Flora had a pocket dimension where she lived with other tree nymphs
The Hall of Legends was protected by the Sentinel Knight. The Original Powers forged a sword called Excelsior and gave it to him to wield.
The Original Powers tried to avoid directly interacting with the Omniverse at large, worried their tremendous power could accidentally tremendous harm to the very fabric of the Omniverse. However, some interacted more than others. Ninjor refused any contact outside the Original Powers. Nyx would occasionally help people with the Well of Wonders, but only if that was their Fate. Ruel Ghorm and her fairies would be the most likely to help people, but only to grant simple wishes, and only in certain circumstances. Daimyo interacted most often with the people of the Omniverse, but even he rarely used his magic to actually help people, but would only teach them new skills.
The Original Powers do create two artifacts to help the inhabitants of the Omniverse in times of great need: the Holy Grail and the Corona Aurora. The Holy Grail was placed in the desert in the Fairy Tale Realm, with a spell on it that only allowed those it deemed worthy to drink from. Drinking from the Grail would given immortality and magic on level with the Original Powers. The Corona Aurora had the ability to temporarily grant the wearer magic similar to the Original Powers, but only while they wore it. It was placed on Mount Olympus and would be given out only in times of great need.
The was only one Law of Magic: no one could force someone to fall in love, not even a god. The power to bring back the dead and time magic was heavily restricted by Kronos, but he did occasionally allow someone else to learn it.
The Omniverse went on like this for as long anyone could remember, until things started to change…
"What have you got there, brother?" Hades asked Zeus
"The Original Powers took one of my lightning bolts and each put a bit of magic into it" Zeus said "turning it into a crystal with great power"
"What do you need that for?" Hades asked
"To more effectively guard Mount Olympus when Father is away" Zeus said "Could you imagine what would happen if the Corona Aurora fell into the wrong hands"
"Indeed" Hades said "excuse me, I need to go see Father"
Later, Hades meets with Kronos
"Father" said Hades "I'd like to get something similar to Zeus' Olympian Crystal"
"Whatever for?" Kronos asked
"To help him protect Mount Olympus" Hades said
"That's not your job" Kronos said
"Then to protect the Underworld" Hades said
"From who? And to protect what?" Kronos asked "no one wants to conquer the Underworld and even if they did, there's not much they can do, everyone's already dead. You don't want the Olympian Crystal for the sake of protecting anything, you merely want power for the sake of power itself. That is why you are in charge of the Underworld and not Mount Olympus. Dismissed"
"But, Father" Hades said
"I said dismissed!" Kronos said
Several days later, Zeus meets with Simon to go and train with Kronos
"Can I see the Crystal?" Simon asked
"Simon, it's not a toy" Zeus said
"Please" Simon said
"Fine" Zeus said and he reaches into his robes "… it's… it's not here… someone has stolen the Olympian Crystal. We need to see my Father immediately"
"I'm going to contact the Sentinel Knight" Simon said "he should be able to help" and they rush to the palace to find Kronos. When they enter his throne room, they see Hades blast Kronos with the Olympian Crystal
"Hades!" Zeus said and he sends a blast of magic at Hades, sending him hurling backwards and knocking the Olympian Crystal out of his hand. Zeus goes to pick it up, but is blasted back by a protection spell
"Only myself and those I chose can grab the Olympian Crystal" Hades said, trying to regain his strength
"My son, Simon" Kronos said "no one can survive a blast from the Olympian Crystal, not even a god. I'm dying. Zeus, to you I pass the Magic of Life, with it you can bring anyone back. To Simon, to you I pass the Magic of Time, with it you can travel to any point in time and make changes however you see fit."
"No!" Hades screamed as he manages to get back up with the Olympian Crystal "Brother, Simon, transfer the Life and Time Magic to me and I'll let you live in the Underworld for the rest of your lives"
"Not gonna happen, brother" Zeus said and he and Simon blast Hades, who tries to use the Olympian Crystal to deflect the attack, but their combined power ends up shattering the Olympian Crystal.
"No!" Hades screamed as he grabs the pieces. Zeus rushes him and places his hand over Hades' heart and Hades screams in pain "what have you done?"
"I have stopped your heart" Zeus said "in order to survive you must remain in the Underworld. You are permitted to leave the Underworld for up to 24 hours per year. You may not bring anyone back with you to the Underworld, dead or alive nor can you cause any harm to a living being. Additionally, without your heart beating you are unable to reforge the Olympian Crystal"
"You will pay for this brother" Hades said as he twirls his hand and teleports to the Underworld in blue fire
"Zeus" Simon said "you have the Magic of Life, use it to bring your Father back"
"I can't" Zeus said "the Olympian Crystal doesn't just kill someone, it obliterates their soul, their very existence. The Magic of Life only allows me restore someone's body and put their soul back in it. But my Father's soul is gone. Nor can you use your Time Magic to stop Hades from killing Father, once the Olympian Crystal does something, not even time travel can undo it, it's a fixed point in time"
"Where's the Sentinel Knight?" Simon asked
"Here, milords" the Sentinel Knight said as he walks in with the Corona Aurora
"What took you so long and what in the world are you doing with the Crown?" Simon asked
"Hades wasn't working alone" the Sentinel Knight said "he had coordinated with Moltor and Flurious to steal the Crown. As I was coming here to help you, I ran across them"
"Good job stopping them" Zeus said
"The Crown did most of the work" the Sentinel Knight said "when they tried to take it, it cursed them. I banished them to two different uninhabited planets. They are sealed away"
"We need to call a meeting of the Original Powers" Zeus said
"Come with me to the Hall of Legends" the Sentinel Knight said "and I can make the call"
"We can get in now?" Simon asked
"Yes" the Sentinel Knight "with Kronos' magic transferred to you, you can teleport in and out without incident" and they all teleport to the Hall of Legends
In the Hall of Legends, the Sentinel Knight calls the other Original Powers as Zeus and Simon look around. Simon notices a large crystal in the center of the table
"The Original Powers will be here very shortly" the Sentinel Knight said
"What is that?" Simon asked, pointing at the crystal
"That is the Time Crystal" the Sentinel Knight "Kronos had put large amounts of Time Magic into that Crystal. It allows the Original Powers to see throughout space and time, when you allow it
"Interesting" Simon said as the other Original Powers teleport in
"What are they doing here?" Ninjor asked "and where's Kronos?"
"My Father is dead" Zeus said
"What?!" the Original Powers exclaim
"Hades killed him with the Olympian Crystal" Zeus said
"I'm sorry for you loss" Flora said
"Thank you, Mother Flora" Zeus said
"And Kronos gave you two his Magic?" Ruel asked
"Yes, Lady Ruel" Zeus said
"Then I suppose you two are now Original Powers" Daimyo said "welcome, Lord Zeus, welcome Lord Simon"
"Actually I'd like to change my name" Simon said
"Good" said Ninjor "who ever heard of an almighty being named Simon" Ninjor said
"What would you like to be called?" Flora asked
"Lord Simultaneous" Simon said
"Then welcome, Lord Simultaneous" Ursula said
"Thank you, Lady Ursula" Simultaneous said
"Whatever happened to Hades?" Nyx asked
"I have banished him to the Underworld" Zeus said
"Why didn't you just kill him?" Ninjor asked
"I couldn't" Zeus said
"He killed your Father, this is no time to get sentimental" Ninjor said
"No, I mean, I don't have the power to" Zeus said "in the fight with Hades, the Olympian Crystal was destroyed. That is the only way I know of to kill a god"
"That is true" Poseidon said "there's no other way that we've found, not that we've done a lot of experimenting"
"Can you create a second Olympian Crystal?" Simultaneous asked "you created the first"
"Kronos was the primary creator behind it" Ursula said "we just leant our Power"
"Sealing Hades in the Underworld was the best thing that could be done given the circumstances" Ruel said
"Milords and ladies" the Sentinel Knight said "there is another matter that needs to be attended to"
"Is that why the Crown is here?" Ninjor asked
"I'm afraid so" the Sentinel Knight said "Moltor and Flurious tried to steal it. I've taken care of them, but with their attempted theft, I'm wondering if the Crown should be moved"
"That darn Crown is more trouble than it's worth" Ninjor said "we should've never made it"
"No" Simultaneous said "it will be needed one day, I can see it"
"When?" Ruel asked
"I cannot say" Simultaneous said
"Some god of time you are" Ninjor said
"Let me rephrase" Simultaneous said "I will not say. Kronos taught me that very few people should be permitted to know the future, even the Original Powers should only know what is needed"
"Kronos taught you well, Lord Simultaneous" Flora said
"Thank you, Mother Flora" Simultaneous said
"Besides" Daimyo said "the Crown has all of our powers, I don't think dropping it into a sun could harm it"
"You mean you don't think a few arrows could destroy it?" Simultaneous asked
"I said dropping it into the sun couldn't harm it, how would a few arrows?" Daimayo asked
"I was just joking, you'll get it later" Simultaneous said
"Time travelers" Ninjor said
"Sentinel Knight" Ruel said "take the Crown and remove its Jewels. Hide the Crown and its Jewels in separate locations. None of the individual components of the Crown are nearly as powerful as the whole Crown"
"It will be done, Lady Ruel" the Sentinel Knight bowed and teleported away with the Crown to hide the Jewels
"Anything else?" Ruel asked
"Two more things" Simultaneous said "first, I'm transferring my Time Magic into my staff" and his staff transforms into the Time Scepter
"Now there's an idea" Poseidon said, looking at his own trident
"And second?" Ruel asked
"We'd like to change the Laws of Magic" Zeus said
"You can't just change the Laws of Magic" Daimyo said "the Original Powers are powerful, but not that powerful. Even Cupid, the god of Love, can't change the Law"
"We don't want to change that Law" Simultaneous said "we want to add two new laws. No changing the past"
"And no bringing back the dead" Zeus said
"Well, you are the gods of Time and Life" Poseidon said "if that's what you want to do, you can recall the Time and Life magic from the other users"
"Then that's what we'll do" Zeus said and he absorbed all the Life Magic into himself, while Simultaneous absorbed all the Time Magic into the Time Scepter
From then on there were three Laws of Magic. No magic user can:
Bring back the dead
Force someone to fall in love
Change the past
