Vol.2, Ch.5:
She did not waste any time hugging him, and he returned it as well. Hearing his voice and finally able to see who it was, the three men stood in surprise that the Doctor was here after not being heard from or seen in over a year.
Yang: *lets go and wipes tears* You idiot! Where the hell have you been?
The Doctor: Yes, I am an idiot and I've been busy.
Yang: *smiles softly* Please come in. Dad, Professors, this is the Doctor. You probably already met him or knew about him.
Port: Ah yes! Mr. Smith-
The Doctor: Just the Doctor actually! William Smith was a name given to me when I lost my memories, but I use it as a disguise name. I wasn't interrupting anything was I?
All: No, No, No.
Yang: Not at all. I just got here as well from upstairs.
Oobleck: Please have a seat, Doctor! Would you care for some tea?
The Doctor: Certainly. I do love good ol fashioned tea.
Taiyang: So do you just go by the Doctor?
The Doctor: Yes. But for fun, I like to hear people say Doctor Who? Fun and Catchy. Unless you are the enemy or Grimm, I would like for them to know me as the Oncoming Storm.
Yang: He got a lot of those, even from us and he's right, they are funny. But Oncoming Storm is too badass for you.
Port: If you do not mind me asking Doctor, where exactly are you from? During your time in Beacon, they never gave us information about you.
Yang looked at the Doctor as she was unsure, he would be willing to tell them or if they would believe him. The Doctor looked at her and gave her a calm nod.
The Doctor: Dr. Oobleck correct? Would you mind checking my heartbeat please?
Oobleck: *confused* O-Of course! Ahem. *Pulls out stethoscope*
The room went quiet as Oobleck checked the heart of the Doctor and felt it normal until he heard a repetitive heartbeat. Moving his stethoscope, he heard another heartbeat which confused him until his eyes widened in astonishing discovery.
Dr. Oobleck: WHAT IN BLAZES?! YOU HAVE TWO HEARTS!
Taiyang and Port were shocked to hear this from Oobleck while Yang smiled already knowing about this for a while now.
The Doctor: Yep. I have two hearts in me and no, I'm not human in case you were going to question how I am alive with two hearts. I'm an alien, a time lord for simple explanation. I am from another universe, from a planet known as Gallifrey.
Taiyang: H-Huh?! W-What?! Yang! Did you know about this?
Yang: *giggles* Guilty as charged.
The Doctor: It's a little complicated in the beginning since I fell through a crack that appeared in the skies of the universe and I went from my universe to yours.
Oobleck: I WAS RIGHT! ALIENS EXISTS!
The Doctor: Taiyang, I thought you would have an idea I wasn't ordinary human when you hopped onto my TARDIS.
Oobleck and Port: The what?
Yang: T. A. R. D. I. S. Stands for Time and Relative Dimension in Space.
Port: TAI! You went on a spaceship!
Taiyang: I didn't know he was one! I just thought it was a man-made ship of his!
Oobleck: I must know where your spaceship is and take a look at it!
The Doctor: *chuckles* I am also 516 years old.
Everyone: WHAT?!
Yang: W-Wait Doc! You can't be 500! When we last saw you, you were 200 years old! Only a year passed by!
The Doctor: *sighs* Time is a funny and complicated perspective. You gotta remember Yang, I don't age like all of you. I may look the same since you last saw me, but I've aged 300 years since I last saw any of you.
Yang: Which means...*eyes widened* Doc...
The Doctor: Yep! For you, it's been a year. For me, it's been much longer.
Yang: What are you even doing out there on your own? Didn't you forget how much that could harm you? And where's Dalek Khan?
The Doctor: Don't worry Yang. I'm not falling through that same path I did last year. Khan remained here on Remnant while I've been doing my thing out there across the planets. Helping out, learning, giving out hope in dark times. Believe me, Remnant isn't the only planet that deals with unfortunate crises.
Yang could only give him a soft smile. She was happy to see that he's doing well and back to being who she firmly believes he is, which is the Doctor. But at the same time, it pains her because he's been all along while everyone else went their own ways.
Port: I will say that on behalf of all of us who were there that night. We thank you Doctor for being able to save as many people as you could and eradicating the Grimms from damaging Beacon even more. You saved so many, and we are in your debt.
The Doctor: Please don't. I don't need any thanks even though I appreciate your kindness. All I did was give the huntsmen and huntresses that spark that it wasn't about saving what was left of Beacon but rather saving the people there. It pains me we lost many lives that day, but it could have become so much more. As I told them that night, it's not about winning or losing, it's about doing what is right and that was evacuating everyone to safety. In the 300 years I travelled on my own, I've seen the history of Remnant from the beginning til now and what this planet, these people, all of you need is a sense of hope, stay focused and forward, and above all be kind. I said the same thing to Ruby when-
Taiyang: RUBY?!
Yang: You saw her! Where is she? Is she okay?
The Doctor: She's fine. I was with her last night; she is with Team JNR heading to Mistral. She's growing stronger and she's still that girl that brings a smile to everyone. She was worried about you Yang, considering the last time you saw each other things weren't well.
Taiyang and Yang felt their hearts relieved after so long of not knowing anything about her until now thanks to the Doctor. Yang felt a small punch to heart however, remembering how she distanced herself from Ruby before she left, and she regrets it very much. Everyone continued to chat for a little longer and got to hear a bit of the Doctor's adventures before it was time for the professors to leave as The Doctor and Yang head upstairs for a private conversation.
Yang: So...have you gotten in contact with anyone else?
The Doctor: No. Only Ruby and Vine Weiss who I went to see before coming to Remnant.
Yang: Does that...help you? With everything that came in the end with Weiss.
The Doctor: Yes and no. Yes, because well, she is a clone of Weiss, so she has got the same personality and I have a way to still talk to her. But no as well because it's not really Weiss.
Yang: You miss her a lot, don't you?
The Doctor: I do miss her everyday Yang, like all of you. Vine Weiss may look like her but she's becoming her own person...and it brings back the painful memories of what happened on that day... *Looks at Yang's arm* I'm truly sorry...
Yang: Huh? *Looks at my arm and sighs* It's not your fault Doc. You were handling the evacuation when this happened...I-
The Doctor: She ran. I know. I saw her and she saw me. She decided to continue running on without saying anything. Sun went after her but never came back.
Yang: Of course. Cause that's what she does. Run away not caring about the people she left broken. *Grits teeth* I needed her...here...I NEEDED HER! AND SHE RAN! If this wasn't enough, her leaving was the poison bullet on my heart! She didn't care at all! I tried to save her, and it led me to this.
He understood what she felt. All that pain, anger, betrayal, heartbreak, and so much more. He remembered very well telling her that it wasn't her fault and that she needed to stay by Yang's side, but she did not listen. It won't be long til he goes to visit her. But all he could do was let her release it.
Yang: Ruby was here with me before she left. Weiss was taken back home. But Blake?! She left without saying anything...and when I was still unconscious.
The Doctor: Yang, could it be possible that the reason you feel like this is-
Yang: Yes! Yes it is because of that Doctor! But I moved on, I hold nothing else but anger for her and if I ever see her again, she won't be taken lightly.
The Doctor: You need to slow down Yang.
Yang: *eyes turn red* I CAN'T! I can't...*fall on my knees* I'm broken...I'm lost and hurt...I can never be normal again after everything that happened.
The Doctor: Yang...it's not that you can never be normal again. It's that you changed. We all do, we all change at certain points through our lives. And that's OK, it's a good thing, you know why? Because you gotta keep moving, so long as you remember all the people that you used to be. From the beginning and until the very end. Look at where I was when I was in Gallifrey, when Gallifrey fell, when I became the Doctor and William Smith. And look at where I am now. It's all still a part of me because of change. Don't let this change become something negative, make it something impacting and good.
Her red eyes slowly disappeared and returned to her purple eyes. Taking deep breaths and hearing what the Doctor told her, she was finally calming down. What her father, the professors, and the Doctor tell her all have a reason.
Yang: H-How do you do it?...After dealing with the Time War that wiped out your planet and your kind...how are you still moving forward.
The Doctor: Yang, why do we fall sometimes?
Yang: *looks up at him* So that we can learn to pick ourselves up.
The Doctor: Exactly! I tried to move on and forget about the time war. But I knew it would never leave me, so I accepted it and tried to remember it to help me prevent it from happening on other planets and here. Sometimes change can come not from growing or good things but horrible things. But we have to keep ourselves standing and keep going.
Yang: *hugs him again* Thank you Doc. For listening to me, for talking to me, for doing your best to help me.
The Doctor: You are my friend Yang; you always have been and always will be. You and Ruby are like my own sisters after all.
Yang smiled softly at the thought that even after who knows how long he's been away and alone, he still sees her and Ruby as part of his family. A sudden realization hit both of them though.
The Doctor: I do have something for you. That's why I also came.
Yang: W-Wait, where exactly is Khan?
The Doctor: He's here but somewhere.
Yang: Huh?
The Doctor: Somewhere in Remnant. But I don't track him all the time.
Yang giggled at the nonsense speaking of the time lord before he hands her a yellow gift box.
The Doctor: This is for you. I already gave one to Ruby as well. Though, you might find yours...cooler. *winks*
Confused yet intrigued, Yang opens the gift box to see a pair of yellow sunglasses which she instantly loved.
Yang: Doc...you shouldn't have.
The Doctor: I did. And you know what the best part is, they are sonic sunglasses. *smiles*
Yang: *looks at him shocked* SHUT. UP!
The Doctor: I knew a sonic screwdriver probably wasn't your fit. So, I went a little fancy with it and made them into sunglasses. They may look cool, but they've got the same features as a screwdriver.
Yang puts them on and while she does look very cool, her sunglasses display many things. The Doctor smiled as she hugged him once again. Ruby needed confidence and he did the best to give it to her. Yang needed healing and he gave her a speech about changing and moving forward. He's the Doctor of Kindness and Hope. That is who he is and who he will stay as.
Yang: Oh, I'm so gonna have fun with these. Thanks again Doc. *smiles*
The Doctor: I'd say this visit was a well needed and successful visit.
Yang: A Yangful Visit! Ehhhhhhhh!
The Doctor: Pfft. I'm sorry but No. Just No.
Yang: Aww come on! First pun in a while and I thought it was Stellar. *winks*
The Doctor: Stop it!
The duo continued to chuckle as Taiyang watched from outside of the house. He smiled because after a very long time, his daughter was slowly coming back while adapting to this new life for her. It would now be his turn to help her out.
The Doctor: *sighs and smiles* Guess it's time for me to go.
Yang: Are you sure?! You can stay! You probably need lots of rest from all that travelling and saving the universe.
The Doctor: I'm a time lord Yang. I rarely need sleep. Besides, I still got some important things to do as well.
Yang: Look at you go Doc. Scared lost boy no more, just an idiot with his blue box.
The duo head downstairs and walk outside where they meet with Taiyang as he approaches the Doctor and takes out his hand. The Doctor looked at Taiyang before shaking his hand in return.
Taiyang: Thank you, Doctor. Truly, Thank you for making sure my girls were okay, for doing your best to save people, and giving them hope. I wish you a safe trip and please, if you ever need a home to stay or any help in any way, we are here for ya.
The Doctor: No need to thank me Taiyang. If anything, Yang and Ruby are like my own sisters. I knew visiting them would really help. Just do me one favor, never stop doing your role, which is being their father.
Taiyang nodded and thanked him once again as The Doctor walked a little bit into the woods where Taiyang and Yang followed as they soon stumbled upon the TARDIS. Yang placed her hand on the police box as she missed it and the adventures very much. Taiyang still remembers the night Beacon fell and he entered the TARDIS alongside Qrow and Jaune and were left in shock seeing it all bigger on the inside than outside.
The Doctor: Well, off to a few checkpoints before heading back off into the galaxy. I'll come back and see you again Yang.
Yang: You better or I'll come find you with a knuckle sandwich. *Giggles and smiles* Thank you Doc.
The Doctor smiled at her and closed the doors of the TARDIS as he pulled the lever and soon the police box would dematerialize in front of the father-daughter duo. Taiyang in amazement and shock while Yang continued to smile. She looked up at the skies in case he was already up there before heading back inside the house with her dad as it was time to call it night. Before drifting off to sleep, she looked at her robotic her arm and simply thought about it.
The Doctor: Two done. Two more to go...Oooooh Blake, have I got a lot of things to tell you.
The Doctor was about to head off to Blake's location til he picked up two different signals as he looked on the panel and a small smile appeared from him as the panel detected Ruby using her Sonic Screwdriver. He knew she would waste no time in using it, but the other signal came from Dalek Khan who isn't far from RNJR.
The Doctor: Hmm. Perhaps a small detour wouldn't hurt. *Pulls the lever*
Ruby: *reads the map* Come on, guys! If we pick up the pace, we can hit the next town before sunset!
Jaune: Assuming it's still there.
Ruby: Of course it'll be there. This one's supposed to be pretty big! Hee-gan...bayn-a.
Ren: Higanbana. It's a well-protected village with a popular inn.
Nora: Which means, no camping in the rain!
Ruby: See? Everything's going to be fine!
Jaune: You know, we've had a lot of ups and downs. But things could be a lot worse. I really thought we'd see more Grimm.
Ren: As did I.
Nora: I guess our luck is finally turning around! To Higanbana!
Jaune and Ren: To Higanbana!
Ruby: To Higanban... ban-a! *Pulls out Sonic Screwdriver* He said it could detect my command. Hmm, I could use it to track any Grimms on sight nearby.
Without the others noticing, Ruby activates her Sonic which leads her to fangirl quietly and proceeds to follow the map with the aid of the screwdriver. Not that far from them, a Beowulf Grimm appears in sight and stalks the team before it's killed by surprise at the hands of Qrow Branwen. He hears caws from behind and looks to see a flying raven fly past him which mildly annoyed him.
Qrow: *scoffs* Luck.
Another Beowulf appeared as Qrow continued to walk and didn't notice it. The creature lunged but was vaporized immediately by a familiar Dalek who just finished up a few other Grimm. Nothing much besides a bit of armor damage came of change from Dalek Khan. Despite losing track of the others, he was able to keep track of Ruby and her team for safety and assistance though she doesn't know. As he was about to proceed, he detected a familiar object and turned around to be met with the TARDIS materializing in front of him. The doors opened for Khan as he was welcomed by his old-time lord friend.
The Doctor: *smiles* Good to see you old friend.
Dalek Khan: Doctor! *Enters the TARDIS*
The TARDIS dematerializes as the time lord and dalek duo began to catch up. The same fellow Raven that flew past Qrow happened to see this happen and this is where SHE knew, this person is much bigger to Remnant than she thought. Hours have passed and the rain has come down on Higanbana. Team RNJR found a perfect place to spend the night as Qrow watched from a bar nearby while finishing up his drink. A waitress approached him with seconds which confused him.
Qrow: Oh, I didn't o—
Waitress: From the woman upstairs. Red eyes. Said you wouldn't mind bottom shelf.
Qrow: *looks up and sighs* Thanks.
Waitress: *winks* But I went ahead and gave you top. Lucky you.
The waitress left Qrow with a pleased smirk before deciding to head up and confront the person who gave him seconds, his sister and the mother of Yang: Raven Branwen.
Raven: Hello, brother.
Qrow: Raven. *Grabs a chair and sits down* So, what do you want?
Raven: A girl can't just catch up with her family?
Qrow: She can, but you're not. Now how 'bout we get on with it? Unless you plan on keeping these comin'. *Puts the glass cup down*
Raven: Does she have it?
Qrow: Tsk. Did you know Yang lost her arm?
Raven: That's not—
Qrow: Rhetorical question, I know you know. It's just obnoxious that you'd bring up family and then carry on like your own daughter doesn't exist.
Raven: I saved her.
Qrow: Once. Because that was your rule, right? Real "Mom of the Year" material, sis.
Raven: *grunts and grabs his arm* I told you Beacon would fall and it did. I told you Ozpin would fail and he has. Now you tell me. Does. Salem. Have it?
Qrow: I thought you weren't interested in all of that.
Raven: I just want to know what we are up against.
Qrow: And which "we" are you referring to? *Pulls away* Bet you didn't predict Him. The man that killed every single Grimm the night Beacon fell and left a mark for everyone to see. He did so much more for us than you ever did. From what I know, he's the Oncoming Storm.
Raven: I've seen him. An old police box that can disappear within seconds into thin air. A young man as well. Doesn't sound too threatening.
Qrow: *chuckles* I only met him ONCE. And believe me, he could so much damage to you and your tribe with a snap of his fingers. He isn't ordinary Raven. He may not have semblance or powers like you or us but he's someone to watch out for if you poke the bear.
Raven: You mean the tribe that You left. The tribe raised us, and you turned your back on them.
Qrow: They were killers and thieves.
Raven: They were your family.
Qrow: You have a very skewed perception of that word.
Raven: *stands up* I lead our people now. And as leader, I will do everything in my power to ensure our survival.
Qrow: I saw. The people of Shion saw, too.
Raven: The weak die, the strong live. Those are the rules.
Qrow: Well, you've certainly got someone strong on your side. I've seen the damage.
Raven: *turns away* We couldn't have known the Grimm would set in as quickly as they did.
Qrow: I'm not talking about the Grimm. And I'm not talking about you, either.
Raven: If you don't know where the Relic is, then we have nothing left to talk about.
Qrow: I don't know where the Spring Maiden is, either, but if you do, I need you to tell me.
Raven: And why would I do that?
Qrow: Because without her, we're all going to die.
The silence grew as neither spoke until Raven used her sword to open up a portal and place her mask back on without looking back at her brother.
Raven: *scoffs* And which "we" are you referring to? *Walks in and disappears*
Qrow could only finish up his drinking and make his leave for the night to stay somewhere near the kids for protection. Meanwhile within the TARDIS, The Doctor and Dalek Khan continued to catch up after a while.
Dalek Khan: You have taken care of yourself better!
The Doctor: Ehhh, had some up and downs but it's normal. I already met up with Ruby and gave her a sonic screwdriver.
Dalek Khan: Sonic device will be helpful for her against her enemies and possible alien threats.
The Doctor: Which brings me to question, have there been any recent activities happening? I'm sure you noticed the crack hasn't opened in quite some time as well.
Dalek Khan: CORRECT! We should be aware and precautious in case it opens and could create a bigger threat to all of the universe. As for our travels, there hasn't been any activity besides Grimm.
The Doctor: Figures. Well, I was going to meet up with Blake then head to the continent of Menagerie. But, it looks like she's heading there too so it's two birds with one stone.
Dalek Khan: What did you detect in Menagerie?
The Doctor: There was a massive storm a few weeks back, Menagerie went 36 hours without signal or able to go outside. While the damage was minor across there, the storm is the least of concern.
The Doctor pulled up the panel next to Dalek Khan and showed the complete scan of the storm. It looked like a normal storm until the heat signature rose on an unidentified ship that passed by the storm and crashed into the sea.
Dalek Khan: ALIEN SHIP!
The Doctor: Exactly. And if that ship carried aliens that are still alive, it may be trouble for the people of that continent. So, I'm gonna head there after I drop you off.
Dalek Khan: Understood! But do update me on the situation, and if you need assistance I will be there.
The Doctor: I know you will my friend.
The Doctor landed the TARDIS back on Higanbana for Dalek Khan to remain close with the team. As he exited out of the TARDIS, Khan turned around to look at his time lord friend.
Dalek Khan: DO NOT DO ANYTHING STUPID OR I WILL EXTERMINATE YOU!
The Doctor: *chuckles* No promises. I'll see you around Khan.
The duo bid goodbye to each other as Dalek Khan looks for hidden shelter to prevent being seen while the Doctor makes the TARDIS dematerialize and onto his next location: Menagerie.
