Knock Knock.

Silence followed.

Knock Knock!

More silence.

Bang Bang!

"I'm coming!" A distinctly female voice rang out.
Footsteps rushed to the door and twisted the knob and opened it hurriedly.

"Hello, mom." A child-like voice said.

Deborah stared down at the child she immediately recognized.

"Mark!?" She cried out in shock.

"Can I come inside?" His voice was monotone and tired. His eyes gleamed in the dim light of the house and she saw horror beyond what she could comprehend, something eldritch.

"Yes, com-come in." She ushered him inside.

I looked around at her home. Not bad it was clean and well kept except for the alcohol bottles littering the kitchen counter. It was obvious, he could smell the way the smell of the liquor clung to her.

"How have you been?" I turned my gaze to her.

"I've been good. I had a few questions so that's why I came here." I replied.

"Can I get you anything?"

"A glass of water would be nice Mom." The word was foreign in my mouth but I forced it out. It was dark by the time I arrived and I was too tired to act like a child anymore. I'm surprised she didn't ask questions but she was drunk and holding it together very well.

She came back into the living room where I had made myself comfortable and set the glass of water down. It was gone before she sat.

"Um, what do you want to ask?"

"My father. Who and what is he and where is he?"

"Oh. Your father huh? Umm, let's focus on you, Mark. I want to hear about you." She tried laughing it off and changing the topic.

"No answer or I'll leave Deborah." I was serious. I was already hungry, pissed, and a thousand other things. I didn't have time for her self-deprecating bullshit.

She sighed.

"You're father's not human. He's a Viltrumite. He's an Alien. So that makes you a hybrid Mark."

Silence.

I always had an inkling of what he was and what I am but to hear it was simply not the same.

"He was sent here to subjugate Earth but when he heard I was pregnant he was so scared. He knew once you were born and unlocked your powers he would have to fight. But he grew to love Earth too much and he was afraid and left. For the longest time, I blamed you."

That was a lot to unpack.

"What was his name?" My voice was meek and timid. I hated it.

"Nolan. Nolan Grayson." She said, "Mark, can you spend the night?"

No.

"Yes."

I laughed once more.

One Day On The Run

I was gone before dawn broke. It's not that I didn't like her, it's just that I got no value or benefit from being there.

I needed to leave. Mostly because I was excited to test out my powers but I didn't want to draw attention to myself so I stuck to the floor. Not even like I knew how to fly yet.

I had found an old and abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of Gotham and called it home. As soon as I had a bite to eat because boy had I not eaten in a day and I was hungry.

But I was at the entrance of the warehouse and had to grab the massive rusted doors and I looked at them and reached for the handles and pulled.

Screeeech! Boom!

All I did was pull. But instead, the hanger doors had been pulled and flung halfway to the horizon. I looked at the mutilated entrance to the warehouse and sighed.

I had to find another one. This time I was gentle with the doors and they didn't rip off the hinges.

I waved away the rust and dust in the air and looked inside. It was a spacious empty warehouse inside and a train cart on its side to the end of it.

"Home," I stated and my voice echoed.

I could hear the chattering and squeaking of rats but I ignored it. I set my bag down, made my way to the end of the hanger, and looked at the cart. I smiled and set my hands under it, straightened my back, and hefted the damn thing over my head with everything my tiny body could offer.

Boom!

I dropped the thing on the floor and flexed with a smile. I just lifted about 18 tons over my head.

I focused and closed my eyes. I tried to imagine myself floating and weightless. I peeked one eye open and saw myself still rooted to the floor. I tried once more. Nope. I jumped up and tried to stay but gravity once more made me its bitch.

I snarled in annoyance. I jumped and kicked into the air and fell back down. I took a deep breath and exhaled. I climbed on top of the train cart, closed my eyes, and jumped. I expected to meet the floor but it never came.

I opened my eyes and saw myself hovering in the air.

I couldn't help but let out a laugh of pure joy.

I'm flying!

I tried moving and spun upside down. It was like being in 0-G.

I righted myself and tried pushing off.

Scorch! Boom!

The ceiling flew to meet me and I tore right through it and into the sky I continued accelerating and broke what I assumed was the sound barrier.

Stop-stopstopstop-too fast slow down stop

I tried negating my acceleration by moving back at the same speed.

Boom!

I was there. Twirling and hovering above the sky. I looked down and I couldn't see anything. I couldn't make it out.

Hah-ha where am I? I don't know. Which way is back to Gotham?

I slowly and carefully spun on my axis and looked down at the planet. It was… nothing to gawk at.

I looked down and moved towards it. Slowly at first, then faster and faster and faster until I was moving as fast as most commercial jets. I decided to kick it up a notch and went faster. A boom accompanied my acceleration as I took off like a baby fighter jet.

How do I land? Don't know how.

I was rapidly incoming towards the floor and I took it in stride. I crashed through the floor at Mach speeds and tumbled for a quarter mile before stopping.
