Welcome back to A Song Of Spiders And Dragons. Last time, after taking out Kingpin's guards, Spider-Man, Spyro, and Cynder met up with an ally and old friend of the dragons: Officer Jefferson Davis. And after some fiddling with a weirdly wired door, the quartet entered the abandoned building and started their search. So, what do they find? How does this end up? Read on to discover...
(Our story resumes with Spider-Man, Spyro, Cynder, and Jefferson Davis searching the abandoned structure for any sign of Kingpin's activity.)
Jefferson Davis: Well, so far, nothing illegal out in the open.
Spider-Man: (Chucking aside a piece of driftwood) Pretty anticlimactic so far.
Spyro: Knowing Fisk, it's got to be hidden.
Cynder: And pretty well at that.
Jefferson Davis: Then he's picked the right spot. This place has been here forever. Bootleggers used to use it all the time.
Cynder: Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Spyro: Secret rooms.
Spider-Man: Honestly should've thought of that going in, that is so Fisk's M.O.
(As the trio gets on the same page, Jefferson Davis spots something off with a shipping container)
Jefferson Davis: Hey, check this out! (Knocks on the container) Sounds hollow. (Spies something on the floor) Drag marks, swinging outward. Got to be a hidden door. And there's definitely a hidden panel, must be covering the lock.
Spyro: (Confirms everything Jefferson Davis just saw) Score one for Jazzy Jeff Davis!
Spider-Man: I'll see if I can find the junction boxes.
(With that, Spider-Man swings off into the rafters, and after a few minutes of searching, finds the junction box, activating it and unlocking the hidden door, which the other three manage to open with combined strength)
Cynder: Nice going, Spidey.
Spider-Man: Hey, I'd say score two for Officer Davis. If it weren't for him, we probably wouldn't have found anything!
Spyro: So, what've we got?
Cynder: Empty safe, nice wood cigar box, empty shelves...
Spider-Man: So a big fat nothing.
Jefferson Davis: Where there's one secret room, there's almost always multiple. And in this case, we've got confirmation.
Spider-Man: Of course! They can hide the doors, but not the drag marks from opening them!
Spyro: So, there's our next course of action.
Cynder: Split up and see if there's any more suspicious floor markings.
(And with that, the group splits up again, and within a few minutes, Spider-Man is up in the rafters again, having found someting in one of their more stable sections)
Spider-Man: Got something up here!
Cynder: We're on the way!
(With that, the dragons fly up to Spider-Man, while Jefferson Davis tries to use the elevator to the upper level, but there's a snag)
Jefferson Davis: Might be a bit behind, elevator's dead.
Spyro: No worries, Jeff. Stand back.
(As Jefferson Davis heeds his instructions, Spyro fires a bolt of Electricity into the nearby junction box, sending the elevator up, at which point Jefferson Davis heads over towards his teammates' location, leaping over a massive gap in the scaffolding to arrive unharmed)
Spider-Man: Now that was impressive!
Jefferson Davis: Not all cops enjoy one too many donuts. (Knocks on the shipping container) Yep, there's another one. The junction box should be around here somewhere.
Spyro: (Takes a look around) Got eyes on it. Prepare for one unlocked door.
(With that, Spyro unleashes another bolt of lightning and before long the door is open, revealing more of the same)
Cynder: Still nothing.
Spider-Man: Starting to think this is Fisk screwing with us from behind bars.
Jefferson Davis: Check the walls though. Gun racks everywhere. No way they'd just bring them through the front door. There's got to be a secret exit we're missing. (Spies a junction box on the back wall) Looks like this might unlock somewhere else.
Spider-Man: Fisk's men might have said something about a vault. Though my memory is notoriously faulty.
Jefferson Davis: Be glad you're not called to court very often then. (Looks back at the junction box) Looks like a dual circuit. There's got to be another box around here somewhere.
Spider-Man: I'll go looking.
(And without hesitation, Spider-Man searches around , finding the junction box behind the elevator, and before long, the literal floor opens up)
Spider-Man: Bingo! Trap door round back!
(At that signal, Spyro and Cynder, carrying Jefferson Davis, enter the scene and pry open the trap door, revealing an old tunnel)
Spider-Man: Well, that's not creepy at all.
Jefferson Davis: What did I tell you? Bootleggers.
Spider-Man: And it looks like the place hasn't been cleaned since Lucky Luciano was in control.
Spyro: Fisk's goons have to be stashing something down here. You don't just let a good bootlegger tunnel go to waste in a place where real estate's hard to come by.
Cynder: Weirdly insightful, but no doubt true.
Jefferson Davis: Well, what do you say?
Spider-Man: Hope the bootleggers didn't leave booby traps. Down we go.
(And down they go indeed, heading into the underground tunnel, as our story ends for today)
And that looks like a good place to wrap it up for now. Yes, I know, another kind of short chapter, and pretty heavy on investigation. But next time, I swear there's going to be some action. So, what does our intrepid quartet find deep within the bowels of this bootlegger hideout? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
