Welcome back to A Song of Spiders and Dragons. Last time, our sextet of heroes almost got to eat, but ended up discussing their future as a team just before Spider-Man's crime alert went off revealing somebody is going after a man named Charles Standish, the CFO at Oscorp. Knowing it's probably connected to Martin Li, Spyro, Cynder, and Spidey set off. So, what awaits at the scene of the break-in? Read on to discover...
(Our scene opens up outside of MJ's apartment with Spider-Man, Spyro, and Cynder heading to the scene of the crime when MJ calls in)
MJ: This curry is legit! If the science thing doesn't work out, you could definitely kill it as a chef.
Spider-Man: Thanks. So, what do we have on Charles Standish?
MJ: Back to business then. Let's see. He's been Chief Financial Officer as Oscorp for several years, he's single, has a renowned art collection...
Spyro: (Cutting her off) If Martin Li is interested in this guy, he's got to be connected to Devil's Breath somehow.
MJ: We'll cross reference the data.
Cynder: Good. Let us know the second you find something. Li's planning something, and if we're right, it's going to be worse than City Hall if he pulls it off.
MJ: Hate to change the subject, but does this mean our partnership is official? Because it sure feels like it is.
Spider-Man: Partners. Yeah, sure. Sounds good.
MJ: Alright. Go get them, Partners.
(And just like that, the trio arrives at Standish's building, only to find the NYPD and Demons scuffling it out in the streets)
Spider-Man: Looks like the police could use a hand.
Spyro: Then let's give them six.
(So without wasting a second, the trio leaps into the fray, giving the police the boost they needed to take out the ground patrol)
NYPD Officer: Thanks for the assist.
Cynder: Are there any more of them in the building?
NYPD Officer: Parking garage.
Spider-Man: We're on it.
(As the trio rushes into the garage, they find no Demons, but instead a security guard laying injured against a car)
Spyro: You're injured.
Security Guard: I survived Desert Storm, I'll live through this. But you've got to get to Mr. Standish. Those creeps in the masks grabbed him and forced him up to his place. Penthouse, top floor.
Cynder: You've got it.
Spider-Man: Looks like we're going to have some company!
(And sure enough, Spider-Man is right, a platoon of Demons has just entered the room, prepared to stop them. And with no hesitation, they rush into battle)
Spider-Man: Man am I glad to see you guys, I can't seem to find my car, and I could have sworn I parked on this level!
(With the obligatory quip done, the trio gets to fighting in earnest, advancing their way up the parking garage as they go and just as they hit the top, they take out the last of the Demons guarding the elevators up)
Spyro: Well, here's our way to the penthouse.
Spider-Man: (As he pries open the door) Going up.
(With little hesitation in their step, the trio ascends the elevator shaft, with Spider-Man taking out the occasional Demon poking through the doors to maintain their stealth, but as they slowly ascend, it becomes clearer and clearer that the Demons know they're here. As by the time they hit the third elevator shaft, yes there's three of them in total, the Demons have started throwing fire bombs down the shafts and cutting the cables on the elevators themselves. But against all odds and obstacles, our terrific trio reaches the top of the building, and looking down through a grate, they can see the penthouse.)
Cynder: Let's get in there.
(And as the trio descends via the grate into the penthouse, our tale ends for today)
Well, that seems like a good spot to end for today. Yeah, I had to cut the elevator carnage down to a single stage note, just because it gets so monotonous that it was easier to just make it one long stage note and save myself some time. Plus it's late when I'm writing this on Wednesday and I have work in the morning. So, what awaits as our terrific trio descends into the penthouse? What do the Demons want with Charles Standish?
