Welcome back to A Song of Spiders and Dragons. Last time, Yuri revealed to the team that Sable International is already aware of Dr. Morgan Michaels and is keeping him safe somewhere, but they won't tell the police where despite supposedly being on the same side. Needless to say, everybody is tired of Norman Osborn and him keeping secrets like this. So Cynder decides to do something about it, and leads the trio to Oscorp's main building for a little bit of B&E. But will they be able to get into Oscorp at all? Read on to discover...
(Our scene opens up on a rooftop across from Oscorp headquarters, where Spyro, Cynder, and Spider-Man stand ready to try and crack the place. At first the stakeout doesn't seem to be going too well, but then Spider-Man spots something)
Spider-Man: There. (Points to a balcony near the top of the building) There's a vent over that doorway. That's our way into Norman's office.
Spyro: We'll need to shut down some security systems to get in.
Spider-Man: But if they see any of us, the whole place is going to go on lockdown.
Cynder: Leave that to me, boys. I'll keep us in the shadows while Spidey shuts down the security system.
Spider-Man: So far, a good plan. I can hack into the security network modules from the outside. Then all we have to do is scale the building.
Spyro: Well then, we'd best get going.
Cynder: Let's.
(With that, the trio sets off towards the Oscorp building, sneaking around within the shadows thanks to Cynder, poking their heads out occasionally to see where they're going.)
Spider-Man: (Spotting something with his suit) Here's the first security module. Give me a second. (Uses his phone to hack into the module, shutting off the exterior spotlights) That should make things a little easier.
Spyro: How many are there?
Spider-Man: Looks like three more.
Cynder: Onward and upwards then.
(The group progresses up the building, still in Cynder's shadow blanket, only to realize a problem, Sable's got snipers aimed at the building. But they are undeterred and eventually make their way up to two more security modules, prompting Sable to send in a helicopter to keep an eye on things. And of all the inopportune moments, this is when MJ decides to call in.)
Spider-Man: (Surprised he gets cell reception from inside a shadow) Hey MJ, not the best time.
MJ: I'll make this quick then. I've got a lead on Charles Standish's location. If I can get to him, I can probably make him talk. Since he knew about Dr. Delaney, it stands to reason he knows about Morgan Michaels as well, right? I'll take Ember and Flame for extra protection if that helps.
Spider-Man: (Realizing he's not going to get anywhere arguing with her) Okay, just don't do anything crazy.
MJ: Got it. (Hangs up)
Spyro: Is MJ serious right now?
Spider-Man: Serious as a cancer diagnosis.
Cynder: Well, I guess they had good teachers in the crazy department. Anything on the last module?
Spider-Man: (Checking the preestablished connections from the last three modules) We should be right on top of it, hold on a second. (Hacks the last module, disabling the security field around the grate to Osborn's personal office) There, now we just have to get in without being spotted.
Cynder: Then let's get moving.
Spyro: Time to finally learn something about Morgan Michaels, and Devil's Breath. Hopefully.
(Swift as the night, the trio sneaks into the vent and soon enough, they're hearing the familiar voice of New York City's worst mayor since Giuliani speaking on the phone)
Osborn: Hold on. Switching to a secure line. I'm way ahead of you Wilson, I had my people go through each and every one of your files. You even try to expose our business arrangement, and it'll be your word against mine. And last I checked, I'm not the one behind bars.
Spider-Man: Wait, is he talking to Fisk?
Spyro: Even if he's locked up, if the Kingpin's involved, it can't be good.
Osborn: Ni-Oh statue? What the heck are you talking about?
Cynder: The statue from the auction house, where MJ found the file. Guessing Norman just got the bad news.
(After a moment, Osborn's conversation heads out of range, and soon enough the trio is dropping down into Norman Osborn's office.)
Spider-Man: Jackpot. Let's see what we can find.
(Wasting no time, the trio heads over to Norman's private computer and see he already has the Devil's Breath file pulled up. How convenient)
Spider-Man: GR-27? That's a new title on me.
(Clicking through the data, conveniently in PowerPoint slides, the trio starts unearthing all the info they need.)
Spyro: Here's something. Morgan Michaels is the lead scientist on the project, just like we suspected. But it looks like the location of the lab is redacted.
Cynder: (Clicking to the next slide) Check this out.
Spider-Man: AI controlled CRISPR? If that works, it could cure literally any genetic disease! Cystic fibrosis, Huntington's, any of them! This is crazy...
Spyro: Except it looks like it didn't work. It somehow targets the immune system, and is apparently highly contagious. (Reads the details on the slide) 40 subjects dead after only one was infected a week prior?! This is insanity!
Cynder: So instead of curing cancer, he's weaponized autoimmune diseases.
Spider-Man: Wait a second. GR-27 is Devil's Breath!
Cynder: (Clicking on ahead) Looks like this cracks the whole mystery. There's only one sample of this stuff, and Dr. Michaels carries it at all times.
Spyro: So that's why Li wants Dr. Michaels. We find him, we find Devil's Breath!
Spider-Man: Hence why we have to find this guy first.
Cynder: Then we haven't a moment to lose. Let's go.
(Returning the presentation to the start so nobody knows they were there, our trio sneaks out of the scene in the shadows, ending the tale for today)
And that looks like a good place to wrap up for now. So at last we know something about Devil's Breath. It's apparently an accidentally made bioweapon. Now it's clear why Mister Negative wants it. And Morgan Michaels carries the only sample with him at all times. Now, the quest is clear, find Dr. Morgan Michaels and secure Devil's Breath before Mister Negative can. But will they be able to? What about MJ's lead on Charles Standish? Will that pay off? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
