Welcome back to A Song of Spiders and Dragons. Last time, while Spyro, Cynder, and Spider-Man made their way to the F.E.A.S.T. Center for Miles Morales' first day, they ran right into Miles himself, fighting off a pair of muggers. After stopping the muggers and saving Miles, Spidey gave him some pointers on fighting off future attackers, while Spyro and Cynder decided to give Miles a lift to F.E.A.S.T. So, what awaits at the Center? Read on to discover...
(Our story resumes with Spyro and Cynder landing out in front of the F.E.A.S.T. Center with Miles Morales in tow.)
Spyro: And here we go, F.E.A.S.T.
Miles Morales: Hey, thanks for the lift.
Cynder: No worries, Miles.
(At this point, Miles Morales' cell phone goes off, it's his mother calling)
Miles Morales: Looks like Mom's making sure I'm on time.
Spyro: We'll meet you in there then.
(As Spyro and Cynder head into F.E.A.S.T., Miles Morales answers his phone, following in their footsteps)
Miles Morales: Hey Mom.
Rio Morales: Hi, honey. Did you make it to the F.E.A.S.T. Center okay?
Miles Morales: Just got here. On my way in as we speak.
Rio Morales: Miles, you know you don't have to work there.
Miles Morales: You said I did.
Rio Morales: No, I gave you a choice.
Miles Morales: Yeah, and I chose this over more therapy. I mean, the sessions were helpful. What was it he said, "Everybody grieves in their own way"? I guess this is mine.
Rio Morales: Okay. I'm sorry.
Miles Morales: Mom. Just because I don't want to talk about it, doesn't mean I don't love you.
Rio Morales: Oh, Miles. I love you so much. We'll get through this.
Miles Morales: I got to go. I'll give you a call on my way home.
(And with that, the conversation ends just as Miles Morales opens the door to the F.E.A.S.T. Center, and inside, Spider-Man, now in his civilian guise of Peter Parker, sees him and approaches)
Spider-Man: Hey, Miles.
Miles Morales: Hey, Pete. Sorry I'm late.
Spider-Man: Late? You're just on time! And besides, we're just glad your here at all.
Miles Morales: So, um... what can I do to start out?
Spider-Man: Right now, just get to know people. We'll call on you if there's a project we need help on. For now, just take a walk around, familiarize yourself with those we help, and overall get comfortable with the place. (Looks over to the coffee cart) Hey, everybody loves coffee, that's probably a good way to start.
Miles Morales: Right, coffee. That'll work.
Spider-Man: And I'll be back to check on you in a couple hours.
Miles Morales: (Notices one guy having some sort of fit) Right.
Spider-Man: Don't worry about Mr. Hodges. He doesn't bite. Much.
Cynder: Don't be afraid to seek us out if you need assistance, Miles. Just about everybody does on the first day.
(And with that, the charitable quartet splits up. And Miles Morales in particular seems to take to this job pretty well. All while delivering coffee, he's helping people with crosswords, fixing broken TVs, until that last one starts playing a news report on his father)
News Reporter: Tributes continue to pour in for Officer Jefferson Davis, the hero killed in the city hall bombing, as reports emerge that he used his own body to shield others in his last moments alive. Officer Davis is survived by his wife, Rio, his son, Miles, and his brother, Aaron.
(Miles Morales tries to take his mind off this by just going back to the coffee thing, as one of the residents speaks up)
Ernie: Guy didn't do anything heroic except get himself blown up.
(Miles Morales is clearly annoyed about this, but Spider-Man sees something is up and steps in)
Spider-Man: Hey, Ernie. I see you've met Miles. He's going to be helping out here. You might have heard of his father, Jefferson Davis. Pretty great that even though he's got a lot of stuff going on right now that he decided to come and volunteer. Think so?
(Thanks to Spider-Man being not so subtle about that, Ernie seems to change his tone)
Ernie: (Realizing what he just said) Uh, yeah, yeah. Listen kid, I'm... I'm sorry about your dad.
Spider-Man: Come on, Miles. Let's go see if Aunt May needs a hand in the kitchen.
(Switching scenes to the kitchen, we see Aunt May as well as Spyro and Cynder working on lunch. The two dragons realize they should be getting back out in the field, and Spider-Man's arrival with Miles Morales is the perfect time.)
Spider-Man: Hey, May. I've got to head out, but I brought some help.
Aunt May: Hey, Miles! Nice to see you. Well, grab an apron, wash your hands, and I'll show you the ropes.
Spyro: Speaking of heading out, Cynder and I have some business to attend to at the embassy.
Aunt May: Understandable. Still glad to see you two can find time to come down here and give us a hand.
Cynder: We'd be nothing if it weren't for the people. We always do what we can to help out where we can.
Aunt May: It's greatly appreciated. Governments around the world could use more like you two.
(With a chuckle and blush of embarrasment, Spyro and Cynder head out with Spider-Man, but not before Miles Morales catches Spider-Man's ear)
Miles Morales: Hey Pete? Thanks for what happened back there.
Spider-Man: Of course.
(And with that, the trio leaves, ending our tale for today)
And that looks like a good spot to end for today. Not much action, just what seems to be a standard day at F.E.A.S.T. And knowing who's leading the enemy forces, it could be the last standard day here. But, lest we forget, Dr. Michaels should be on the move any minute. So our trio of heroes has to step into gear. Will they be able to get to him in time? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
