OR1-EP1: Rainbow Nation (19)

"Have you misunderstood the Governor-general before?"

On the way back from the governor's palace, McNeil asked Smilas about this. The army has always been a sharp sword in the hands of the governor-general. In the past, colonial governors-general mostly relied on force to suppress the opposition and indigenous resistance. The governor-general who could not control the army was not a qualified governor-general. As far as McNeil knows so far, the relationship between Governor-general Herzog and the main leaders of the army is relatively harmonious, and no one has heard of any fierce conflict that deserves attention between them.

"It's not that there is a misunderstanding between us or the chief and the governor-general, but there are many contradictions between the group of people represented by the chief and the governor-general." Smilas said bluntly, "As for our EU tradition, you also know-After Napoleon Bonaparte, the excessive status of soldiers will inevitably cause vigilance. This defense gradually developed to a perverted state. At first, the motive of the ancestors was to prevent the next Bonaparte from appearing, but now it has become excessive suppression. Frankly speaking, the chief is not a person who is particularly obsessed with fame and wealth, at least I think he is inferior to me in this point."

"You're really honest. If it's me, I won't say this casually." McNeil was shocked. Although he had speculated that Smilas was such a person, when this sentence came from Smilas, the effect of what he said in his mouth is completely different from that of a side tap. Indeed, not only in South Africa, but in the whole of Africa, citizens join the army only for the purpose of eating a meal or gaining a chance to make a career. When these people with the same ideas realize that the EU's tradition limits their benefits, they will unite and fight against the conservative thinking. Smilas argued to McNeil that the army of the Britannian Empire was the slave of the nobility, while the EU army was the slave of the bureaucracy. They don't want to follow Napoleon Bonaparte's career as an ambitious, but they just want to regain their original status and reputation for the stigmatized army.

"It is glorious to defend the home and the country. I have always believed in this view." Smilas sighed. "There have been many similar incidents in history. The Council is always worried that popular generals among citizens will seize power. So instead of thinking about how to assist the generals in defeating foreign enemies, they always hinder the actions of the army. If this kind of battle can be won, it will be Satan himself commanding. "The major with a big beard is not optimistic about the current situation." Our previous victories only relied on long-term accumulation, relying on the country's hard power and confrontation with the enemy; now all aspects of development have fallen into a bottleneck, and the previous method was unable to achieve new victories."

"If there is peace today, what war is going to be fought?" McNeil sneered at this, "I have no idea to belittle you. However, no matter what the banner is, there is never justice in aggression, under any circumstances. Unless EU being invaded by foreign enemies, otherwise the useless army is the greatest happiness of citizens."

"You also said that our EU's biggest opponent should now be the Britannian Empire rather than an old enemy Chinese Federation who has fought with us for more than a hundred years." Smilas couldn't help but smile, "I'll be honest, that half-dead medieval country is not worthy of being our EU's enemy."

McNeil felt a little helpless. No one believes that the Britannian Empire will become a threat to EU. EU may be immersed in dreams from top to bottom, or it will deliberately pretend to be deaf and dumb. McNeil prefers to believe that they are selectively turning a blind eye rather than real per capita dementia. The former can be saved, and the latter can only wait for death to come.

However, few people in the world can predict who the opponent will be in the next stage, especially when this rise is dramatic, prediction becomes even more impossible. In the end, the Eastern Roman Empire did not realize the dream of restoring the entire territory of Rome, and instead fed itself to the Turks. The remnants of the Britannian Empire and the royalists of old Europe have been living in the New World for nearly two hundred years, and no one knows whether they will continue to sink or complete a counter-attack in desperation. These two results are not very different to the Britannians, because the aristocratic nobles never thought of sharing the results of their battles with the troubled people.

They are going to pick up Major Adalbert Herzog who is about to be released. McNeil took a fancy to the abilities of this combat expert, hoping to invite him to train laymen who are about to fight the natives. With this connection and the supervision of Colonel Duttmann, Adalbert Herzog had no reason to refuse. While destroying the indigenous tribes that do not obey the EU's rule, the army will also choose to move those who obeyed from their original location. Regardless of the outcome of the war, no indigenous tribes will be allowed to appear within the known range of South Africa, and they will either wait to be eliminated or move to other areas for transformation. Governor-general Herzog not only wants to cut off some people's illegal capital chain, but also discounts their hand that dared to reach out to South Africa casually.

"What kind of person is Major Herzog?"

"...Good guy," Smilas said uneasily.

"I can also find someone you are not familiar with, and say that he is a good person... as long as he is not exposed." McNeil said grimly, "Everyone agrees that we can't waste time like this. I don't want to be troubled because of his character. If other factors don't benefit the idea, it will take more time to run in."

"Then you can train them yourself."

McNeil shook his head with a wry smile.

"Except for a few who have served in military service, most of them are hooligans. They just want to take this opportunity to make a lot of money legally. They don't necessarily follow the command of the army. They do have the ability to fight melee and shoot, but there is a serious lack of cooperation with each other, and they will not fully execute the orders. Therefore, I can't subdue them. I have to let the real military officer put pressure on them. Of course, Major Herzog is the most suitable candidate, I'm just worried that those guys will engage in a cold confrontation, and it will do harm to the training."

"McNeil, you don't have to worry too much." Smilas said confidently, "Look at their faces now full of disdain, when they are thrown into the conflict zone in the north, they would cry for parents. Then it's okay for you to just tell them to kneel down and beg for mercy. As for people, when they are safe, there is always some arrogance. We all have to understand this."

Adalbert Herzog treats everything very harshly, sometimes to the point of unkindness. This young man with serious persecution delusions regards all activities as a necessary step to save his life. He not only has to let himself implement this lifestyle, but if he can, he also helps others learn these skills. This kind of excessive enthusiasm is often not rewarded, and others just treat him as unconscious. Fortunately, no one has made a fuss about Major Herzog's mental condition, otherwise someone will accuse the Governor-general of using illegal methods to allow the only child to enter the army.

Gene Smilas parked the car on the side of the road, waiting for Adalbert to appear. The major was released later in the day. Although some people believe that he should be held accountable for the injuries caused by his driving, this incident is not big news compared to Nito Mariam's killing of his employer. The judiciary agreed that there is no need to do too much investigation. A few minutes later, a young man in a gray single-coat carrying a briefcase appeared at the intersection and walked towards the car. Although he has a fierce face and a soft expression, it is a pity that he will only show a smile that is uglier than crying. Looks are natural.

As Adalbert Herzog opened the car door, Smilas took the initiative to extend his hand to say hello to him. Adalbert looked at McNeil in the back row in a puzzled manner, and hesitantly sat in the passenger seat.

"This is Major Herzog." Smilas introduced the young officer who had just gotten rid of the charges to McNeil. "This is your benefactor, McNeil."

"It's not about kindness, it's just luck." McNeil quickly declined. "I don't have that great ability, but Major Smilas has helped a lot."

Adalbert shook hands with McNeil coldly, and then stopped talking to the stranger he did not know. He and Governor-general Herzog are 70% similar in appearance, with only minor differences. The impact of these details is obvious. The younger Herzog is fiercer than his father. Perhaps when he is as old as his father, the ferocity from the inside out can be contained. From the outside, anyone would think that he was a hardliner, and no one would have guessed that Adalbert Herzog was a poor man with persecution paranoia. The extreme sensitivity of the heart and the toughness of the outside formed a sharp contrast, making his mental problem undetected for a long time.

"When are we going to leave?" Adalbert asked angrily.

"Don't worry, let's clarify the issues that should be explained first." Smilas didn't mean to set off. "Col. Duttmann intends to go to the north to destroy the indigenous tribes suspected of being involved in the attack. He believes that these tribes have the support from the Britannian Empire from certain way -you can ask this Mr. McNeil for details-the only problem is that the Governor-general is now showing his willingness to improve the living conditions of the indigenous people, and he is showing great fanfare to the indigenous people. This operation will cause him unnecessary trouble."

Adalbert was silent for a while, probably thinking about his father's wishful thinking.

"He wants benefits and is afraid of trouble." Adalbert sighed. "If he is the only one who thinks this way, it is understandable; however, if there is an effect, everyone thinks that way, and the result is that no one wants to work and contribute. Everyone only learns to hide behind."

"The colonel means that the purpose of the military's public announcement is to maintain public security in the northern region. He intends to hire a group of people to infiltrate the tribe's surrounding areas and eliminate those tribes in a short time." Seeing Adalbert treat himself as air, Mike Neil decided to show his existence. He didn't expect Adalbert to be grateful to him, but this kind of blunt attitude like a stranger is really out of place. "From the current results, there are many outstanding characters with superb combat effectiveness...but most of them are still filling up the numbers. A few days ago, I went to your army to investigate and heard about your work results in various aspects, so I specifically asked you to be responsible for the supervision of the training work."

"How many of you are there?"

"More than a hundred people."

"How many people are there in the enemy?"

"No more than 1,000 people, and the actual number is definitely much less than this." McNeil replied confidently. "I believe that the root cause of such a big threat to the local security by the indigenous people is the mutual excuses between the military. If the defense forces and the Guardian Corp cooperate to set up the blockade, the probability of the indigenous people sneaking into the city is 0. Their greatest advantage is that they are out of sight, and every time we go deep into the tiger's den, we only return empty-handed. Now we need a way to get their space for activities continued to be compressed, until they were completely wiped out in the end."

In fact, Smilas also had great expectations for this plan in his heart. As long as there is a large-scale armed conflict, he will have the opportunity to make achievements. With his ability, even if he sits on the sidelines, he has the opportunity to make a name, not to mention that this time he will assist the colonel in drawing up a detailed combat plan. In Smilas' view, they are determined to win this military action. The EU army has no reason to lose to a group of indigenous people, and even the irregular troops they train will not bow their heads in front of this group of backward primitives. If he wants to use his military exploits in exchange for a chance for promotion, he can only look for this kind of occasion-in his lifetime, there may not be a new world war in the world, and Smilas' purpose is by no means to retire and return home to farm in obscurity.

"I also add that as long as this combat plan goes on smoothly, the rest of the troops will advance as originally planned. These natives will be vulnerable to our superior force. If other surrounding areas dare to make trouble at this time, I think we must let them be aware of the consequences of betraying EU."

Adalbert peculiarly nodded, seeming to agree:

"Okay, I'm interested. How long will the entire task take?"

"In theory, it is half a year from beginning to end." McNeil replied, "After the event is completed, all participants can get a bonus. Some people come for the bonus. Most of them are in short supply, and some people are almost starving to death."

"That's not good." Adalbert immediately heard the anomaly. "I suggest—just a suggestion. Send them a part of bonus first, and then pull them to the north together. If you don't give them anything, after their excitement of being rich disappears, I will not be responsible for any unpredictable changes."

"I think so too." McNeil smiled. "Look, everyone has similar views on this issue. The only difficulty is that we can't bother about whether to send money or how much."
