CHAPTER 1

Kicking the old metal door out of its hinges, Bryan stepped inside the dimly lit room and slammed it before leaning against it to catch his breathe for a moment. Regaining himself, he took in his surroundings, his eyes widening in shock and a loud gasp escaping his mouth.

The old and shaggy chamber seemed not to have been opened for days, giving a foul and rotten smell. A dusty carpet covered the broken wooden floor, pieces of crumbled and bloodied paper and clothing strewn about. An oak desk sat against the wall adjacent to the door, topped off with shabily organised documents, some of which lay open, loose leaves and ripped pages filling the floor around the desk, a broken lamp perched on the corner, lightening the scrabbled on paper, a pot of ink splattered over the mount of paper.

On the other wall stood a closet, open with the clothes thrown all across as if the person owning it was in a hurry, various black and grey cloaks lay on the floor. Though the thing terrifying him was the low lying, king size bed, or rather, the person lying on it.

There, leaning against the opposite wall to the door stood the bed, the sheets ruffled, broken shards of champagne bottles lay scattered on the floor among all the other debris, some of them littered about the bed sheets stained with wine streaks and blood. A dark blue coat lay haphazardly over one the pillows, the other pillow no where in sight.

Among it all lay Kai, his hands cuffed and bounded to the wooden railing above his head, the metal digging into his skin, tearing the upper layer and drawing blood, His eyes closed, face a sickly pale hue and hair matted with dirt and blood, a little wound on the left temple out of which a thin river of blood had rushed down, now the crimson dried and caked on his ckeek.

His breathing shallow, a pained frown lining his fragile features. His bitten lips red from more blood that had escaped his mouth and leaked down his chin, neck bearing disgusting bruises that lay across it with various shades of deepened black and blue. Hickeys scattered along his collarbone and a part of the shoulder that was exposed, red liquid oozing from some wounds where the teeth had bit too hard. A thin black shirt clinging to his lithe and weak body, all torn and tainted with blood. A dark grey pair of trousers hastily pulled up to his waist, the zipper still undone, more bruises about his chest and pale arms.

What scared him the most, was the blood that tinted his pants and leaked on the white sheets, more puddles of it on various parts of the bed. Amidst the bloodied clothing and the battered body of the dual-haired, lay gathered a white substance, covering a huge area of the pants, drying down on the sheets between his scarred legs, which Bryan dreadfully recognized with a grossed out expression as semen.

His breathing hitched and caught inside his throat as he took in the sight of the phoenix all battered and broken, seemingly having no signs of life except for the almost unhearable sounds of his breathes, his soul seemed to have flown away leaving behind an empty shell. His eyes darkened and an extreme wave of pure rage forced itself in his heart.

He stepped a little closer to the bed, a sharp ended chunk of a green wine bottle clinking and rolling away His knees touched the edge of the bed. He lifted a hand to brush away the dull hair that had outgrown and shaded Kai's closed eyes, but he stopped himself, fearing even a touch could shatter the fragile boy who was already cracked beyond repair.

His eyes flicked to Kai's face as he sensed a movement, eyes filling with relief as the crimson orbs fluttered open, a glazed haze overlying them.

The eyes closed for a moment and Bryan feared that Kai had again slipped into unconsiousness when they opened once again, their blood red color a striking contrast to the paper white skin of the weak face.

Bryan leaned down and placed his hands on the edge of the bed and winced as Kai tried to struggle against his bounds, trying unsuccessfully to get away from him. No sparkle of recognition appeared in the dull eyes that now stared wide at him, a glimmer of fear shining in them.

"P-ple-lease, d-don't, plea..." A rough and sore voice pleaded to him, almost unrecognisable in it's tone and completely in the words, losing itself in the thick air at the last word.

Bryan looked guiltily on as tears fell down Kai's eyes as he still attempted, though weakly, to get as much away from him as possible. More pleads fell constantly from his lips, his voice getting incomprehensible with every word.

A sickening feeling came over Bryan and crushed him down. He watched on as Kai writhed on the bed, the metal of the cuffs tearing into his skin and drawing more blood. His eyes filled with terror fixed on him sensing his every movement.

"D-don't-don hur-t me-e,pl-", his voice cracked as he pleaded for his safety that was already brutally snatched from him. He looked like a scared pup with his wide panicked eyes that darted around looking for any sign of more danger than the one he seemed to think was already in front of him.

"Kai, It's me. Bryan. Don't you remember me?", he took the courage to let the hoarse and soft whisper out of his mouth, eyes filling with concern over the hedious state of the other.

Kai stopped for a moment to take in his words, his body tense as he roughly breathed, trying to take in as much of the stale air in the chamber, wincing as his bruised lungs burned under the pressure.

A faint hope appeared in Bryan's eyes as he saw the transition of state in the other. He leaned a little closer and tried to give him a small assuring smile.

"It's me, Kai. Bryan. Bryan Kuznetsov", Kai took in another sharp breath, still processing the words in his brain that had slowed in its working for long now.

"You remember me, Kai? I won't hurt you. You know i won't. I promise", the words took all it had to take before Kai's bloodied lips opened and a barely noticeable murmer escaped them. A shine appeared in the otherwise pale and numb eyes.

"B-bry?", Bryan didn't know how long he had been holding his breathe before he finally let it out with a relieved sigh as the words left the other. He chuckled lightly and kneeled down on the bed beside Kai, reaching his hands forward to open the bounds that tied the other's hands.

"Yeah, Kai. That's me."

The hands slowly coming closer to his own made him panic once again. The eyes went dull with pain and fear once again.

"Y-you won-t hur-rt me?"

The words caused Bryan to stop his action, his hand a few inches away from the other's bloodied ones.

"R-right? P-pleas- d-don't", Kai repeated his words, the obvious fear appearing in the trembling words.

Bryan's vision blurred, in a haze he did not realize that his eyes had watered, a thin mist shining on them.

His heart sank down. What that monster had done to him had made him not trust even his own friends, the friends that were his family from even before he remembered, the family that kept them all alive.

Kai feared he would hurt him. The fucker had made him believe that everyone was out there to hurt him. Even him...

He opened his mouth to respond to his broken pleads, his voice once again trying to lose itself somewhere in the non-existence of such a moment.

"No Kai, I won't, I won't ever. I promise, Kai, please. Trust me?", It seemed now that it was his turn to plead, his words weak and gentle.

Kai stared into his eyes looking for a glimpse of the betrayal and found none. He turned his head to the other side where the closet stood staring at them, his body no longer tense but limp against the ruined sheets.

Bryan took that as a sign to go ahead and slowly opened the bounds, trying his hardest not to tear into the already destroyed skin. When the bounds came down, Bryan threw the rope and the cuffs behind himself, the rope falling among the litter and the cuffs hitting against the crappy lamp, before landing on the desk with a soft clink.

He then gently took hold of Kai's arms, being mindful of the many cuts and bruises on them before laying them down on Kai's sides. Kai's eyes filled with another set of tears at the unintentional pain and he watched with blurred sight as Bryan tore the bottom of his shirt and cleaned a wound right below his wrist that was leaking blood continually, stopping the flow.

"It's not too tight. Is it Kai?" He asked adjusting the knot of the makeshift bandage.

"It's fine" His voice sounded so foreign and strange even to his own ears. A strangled sound that his throat defied to let out.

Bryan tore off another piece of cloth from his shirt and soaked it in the stale water still left in the glass by the nighstand. He then pressed it gently on one of the many bruises on the bluenette's collarbone, before wiping away some of the blood that had dried there, revealing a nasty bitemark.

Kai winced as his wounds were probed, the all too familiar sting setting in. He tried to will himself to relax as the waves of pain came crushing down on him. The dull ache between his legs all the more prominent now. A splitting headache crowded his head and his eyes flared, the urge to shut them down too strong to ignore.

Bryan looked up from where he was focused on cleaning a cut on his arm as he heard a weak whine, Kai's face contorted in extreme pain. Though the other looked to be in a turmoil as he did not seem to be hearing anything Bryan was saying.

Worry edged with despair, Bryan watched helplessly as Kai succumbed into darkness once again, the frowning creases along his features vanishing along with his consiousness.

Hooking an arm beneath the bluenette's shoulder and the other through his knees, he hoisted him up, noticing the light weight giving away the prolonged malnurition.

The oak door that he had seemingly locked was pushed open roughly from the outside, awakening the dust lying on the carpet which now rose in a thick layer.

Bryan's body tensed and his grip on the passed out teen tightened as he fixed his hard gaze at the door behind which stepped a figure, shutting it back softly as he took in his other two friends.

"Spencer?"

The tall blonde looked a little shocked to see him there, his surprise converting into concern as he locked his eyes at the lithe boy being held in Bryan's arms.

"Shit..."
