Also I apologize for any grammar errors lol.

Transformers Prime: The Medic's Assistant

Chapter 21: A Rocky Start

Disclaimer: I don't own Transformers Prime

(Autobot Base)

It was the middle of the afternoon and Team Prime was out on a mission, leaving Ratchet and Stormracer at base.

Stormracer was at the computer while Ratchet tried to fix a machine Bulkhead accidentally broke earlier. The assistant couldn't help but hear the medic cursing as he tried to repair the damage.

"Do you need any help?" she asked him.

"I'm fine," he said, only for the machine to fall apart on him. "Uugh, Bulkhead," Ratchet groaned in frustration.

The computer then made a noise, making Stormracer look to see something on the screen. "Ratchet, we got something," she said, bringing it up for the medic to see, "it's faint, but there's an energon signature somewhere in the Himalayas. Doesn't look very big though."

"Whether its a big deposit or not, every little bit matters," he told her as he made his over.

"I'll notify Optimus," Stormracer said.

"Optimus and the others are busy dealing with the Decepticons," the medic said, "I will go investigate."

"Why not let me go?" she asked, "that way you can finish fixing the machine."

Another part of the machine fell off, making the two look as a piece rolled over to their pedes.

Ratchet groaned. "I don't know," he said, looking at her, "there could be trouble."

"Ratchet, I've faced off against cons, got stuck on their warship and made it out alive, survived a cortical psychic patch, kept my sanity from when Megatron took control over me, and I helped rescue Breakdown from tech crazy humans. I think I can handle a little recon."

Quickly thinking about it, Ratchet vented. "You know the rules. If you get into any trouble, contact for back up."

Smiling, Stormracer gave her boss two thumbs up. "Got it!"

Soon as the groundbridge was activated, Stormracer drove through and found herself staring at a huge mountain.

"Wow," she said. Seeing she was somewhere in a forest, the femme transformed and pulled out her scanner. "Looks like I'll be doing some walking," she said. She then sheepishly chuckled. "Oh boy. I haven't even started and I'm already talking to myself. Very professional, Stormracer."

Making her way through the trees, she followed the scanner. The signal was still faint, but would get stronger the closer she got to it.

"It's close," she said as she kept walking, "I hope I find it soon." She smirked. "Stormracer, you're talking to yourself again. I wonder if the bots talk to themselves whenever they're-"

However she wasn't paying attention to where she was going and ended up losing her footing. Letting out a slight gasp, she slipped and tumbled down a slope.

"Aah! Ow! Oomph!" she said all the way down before rolling to a stop. Laying on her front, she let out a groan. "I'm okay," she said to no one.

Shaking it off, she got up and picked up the scanner. "Well, good thing this didn't break," she said, brushing it off. Continuing on, she paid closer attention to her surroundings as she walked towards the mountain. After a bit more walking, she looked up to see the signal was leading her to a cave.

"I wonder if any yetis are home," she said jokingly.

Turning on her headlights, she made her way in. It wasn't long until she entered the bigger section of the cave. That's when she noticed a small energon deposit sitting in the far corner.

"Yes!" she cheered. Immediately she called base. "Ratchet, I found the energon. Do you copy?" All she received was static. "Ratchet, can you hear me?" Hearing more static, she frowned. "Scrap. Can't get a good signal in here. Better head back out and try outside."

"Do you always talk to yourself?"

Optics wide, the autobot turned around to see Knock Out standing there with his energon staff in hand.

"Uh... what's up?" she asked nervously.

The con grinned at her. "I wasn't expecting you to be here. But then again, your team is currently busy dealing with my own. I guess taking the energon won't be much of a challenge for me."

She frowned at him. "You cons already have so much energon," she said, "we need this."

"I know," he said as he still grinned at her, "that's why we want it." His staff sparking with electricity, he charged at the autobot.

Stormracer jumped out of the way before the con could strike her. Getting around behind him, she activated her EMP and fired a pulse, only for him to dodge and kick her back. She skidded across the cave as the con laughed at her.

"You're making this too easy, Sweetspark," he said as he approached her with his staff still sparking.

Stormracer quickly got back up before he could zap her. She continued to dodge the con as she tried to hit him with her EMP, only for him to also dodge her attacks.

Knock Out tried to strike her again, only for Stormracer to grab his staff with both servos.

"This again?!" the doctor said in annoyance as he tried to pull it away.

The two struggled, both refusing to let go as they gripped the staff with both of their servos.

"You might as well give up," the con said, pulling the staff towards him, "you're not going to win anyway."

Stormracer grunted as she pulled the staff towards her. "I don't give up that easily."

"That's the problem with you autobots," Knock Out said, "you don't know when to quit."

"If we quit, then everything we've done would have been for nothing."

"You're fighting a losing game. We outnumber you a hundred to one. What makes you think you and your team stand a chance?"

"Because we have hope!"

Just then they accidentally hit a button on the staff, making a blast fire out from the end. Shooting across the cave, it hit the energon.

Boom!

The two cybertronians went flying from the blast before skidding across the ground. Just as they were recovering, they heard a sound from above, making them look up to see the rock ceiling cracking.

Knock Out's optics widened. "Scrap!"

"Run!" Stormracer exclaimed.

Knock Out grabbed his staff as they both tried to make a break for it, but the rock ceiling already started to crumble and fell on top of the two, trapping them in the rocks.

Soon as the dust settled, Stormracer groaned in pain as she looked to see she was half buried with a large rock on top of her. The only reason she wasn't squished was thanks the other rocks underneath it.

"Well, this is just dandy!" she heard beside her.

Looking over to her side, the femme saw Knock Out in the same predicament she was as he struggled to free himself. Fortunate for her, he was too far away for him to try and hurt her.

Stormracer tried to squirm her way out, but was unable to free herself as well. "This is not good," she said.

"You think?!" the con said angrily, "I can only imagine what my paint job looks like right now. This is your fault!"

"My fault?!" she exclaimed with a frown, "you had a part in this too, Buster!"

"First off, don't call me Buster!" he said, "second, we wouldn't be in this mess if you hadn't grabbed my staff!"

"You were going to zap me!" she argued, "what was I suppose to do?! Let you?!"

"Yes!"

The autobot released a vent. "Okay, look, it doesn't matter who's fault it is. Can you move?"

Knock Out frowned at her. "Yes, but I decided since I'm under here, I might as well take a nap. What do you think?!"

She frowned back at him. "What ever happened to just yes or no?" She tried her commlink. "And I still can't get a signal in here."

Knock Out used his free servo to try his. "I can't either. Meaning we're both stuck here."

"Okay, no problem," Stormracer said, "eventually my team will come looking for me and find us."

"Oh no," he said, "I'm not getting rescued by autobots. Besides, what if it's not your team that finds us first? What do you think will happen to you if my team finds us?"

She tried her best not to imagine it. "We'll see what happens. In the meantime, we just have to wait for a rescue."

Knock Out vented. "Alright," he said, "we'll wait."

Both were quiet as silence filled the room. After a moment, the silence was interrupted as Knock Out began tapping his finger. Stormracer even let out a vent as she looked at her surroundings. Deciding she would rather do something, she looked over at Knock Out. "So... what's up?"

The decepticon medic stopped tapping his finger and gave her a look. "Are you seriously trying to make small talk?"

"Just thought it would help pass the time."

"I'm not interested," he said, looking away.

Stormracer vented as she looked up at the ceiling. After about thirty seconds of silence, the femme started whistling, but not very well.

This only annoyed the con. "Must you do that?"

"What? It's a good tune," she said.

"Well you're off tune," he said.

"I didn't say I was a pro. Ooh, I know another good one." She began whistling a different tune, but was still off tune.

This annoyed Knock Out even more. "Will you be quiet?!"

Stormracer stopped. "Alright, alright," she said. After a moment of silence, she looked around and smirked. "You know, this isn't so bad. It's kinda relaxing if you think about it. You know, once you look past the part that we nearly got crushed and are now trapped under these rocks, waiting for someone to come find us. Guess you could say we hit rock bottom, huh?"

The only thing she got was a scowl from the decepticon doctor.

"Well I thought it was funny," she said.

Knock Out growled as he pinched his brow. "Terrific! Just terrific! Not only is my partner in recovery because of those fleshbags, but now I'm stuck in a cave with the most annoying autobot ever! I mean seriously! Do you even know the meaning of quiet?!"

"Quiet; to make little or no sound. Would you like to hear it in a sentence?"

"No I don't want to hear it in a se- why am I even talking to you?!"

She shrugged.

Letting out a loud frustrated vent, the con scowled as he looked away from the femme.

Stormracer was quiet as she looked at him. Wondering about his partner after what happened with MECH, she asked, "How is Breakdown?"

Knock Out looked back at her with a slight frown, making her wonder if he'll only snap at her again. He was quiet for a moment until he let out a vent. "He's doing alright," he said, "he told Megatron he escaped the humans on his own, but he told me what really happened, that you and the autobot brute helped him. He also showed me your patch job. As a medic, I will say it wasn't perfect. But, it still did the job."

"Thanks...I think," she said.

"Megatron however was still not happy that Breakdown allowed himself to be vulnerable to the humans. And as punishment, he forbid Breakdown to have his optic replaced."

"Seriously?" Stormracer asked with a frown, "that's horrible."

"That's just how it is," he said, "so I ended up giving him a patch. He's slowly getting use to it, but he's still very sensitive. The big sparkling."

"Well, I'm glad to hear he's doing alright," she said.

Knock Out looked at her with a slight frown. "And why do you care so much about his well-being?"

"After what MECH did to him, I wanted to know if he was okay," she said, "I feel sorry that he went through that."

The con's frown disappeared. He was surprised that she would show sympathy for his partner. Especially since they were enemies of war. "Can I ask you something?" he asked.

"Sure."

"Why did you save me from falling off the mountain?"

"I couldn't just let you fall," she said, "and... it was my fault you almost fell. Sorry about that."

Seeing she meant it, he slightly smiled. "Well then... apology accepted," he said. He then smirked, "So, is that your weakness? Compassion?"

She frowned at him. "Some would call that strength, FYI."

A laugh escaped the con's mouth. "Right," he said, "because no one will take advantage of that to get what they want. Totally strength."

Stormracer kept her frown as she looked away. Knock Out's smirk soon disappeared. Even though he found the idea of compassion pointless, he wouldn't be there talking to her if she hadn't helped him. He let out a vent. "But... I do appreciate you saving my life. And for helping Breakdown."

Her frown disappearing, she looked back at him and smiled. "You're welcome," she said.

"Though you still wrecked my paint job. I mean seriously. Do you have any idea how long it took me to get rid of those scratches your grappling claw gave me? And then your mighty leader ripped off my car door. I was lucky to find a replacement."

She gave him a slight look. "Why do you care so much about your paint job?" she asked.

"Just because there's a war going on, doesn't mean I can't look my best," the doctor said, "I like to look presentable."

Stormracer chuckled a little.

Knock Out frowned at her. "What's so funny?" he asked.

"Sorry," she apologized, "it's just you sound like a friend of mine back on Cybertron. She would always care about her looks. It didn't matter if she planned on going out or staying in, she always wanted to look nice." She noticed Knock Out still slightly frowning at her. "What I mean to say is, if you like making yourself look presentable, then good for you."

His frown disappeared. "Why are you being so nice to me?"

"Would you rather I be rude?" she asked.

"We're enemies," he said, "aren't you suppose to, oh I don't know, hate me? Tell me I'm scum for everything I've done?"

"I could," she said, "but what would that accomplish?"

He gave her a strange look. "You are so weird."

"Thanks!" she said with a smile. She then changed the subject. "So, I take it you like racing?"

"I enjoy it, yes," he said, "though after what happened the last time, I don't do it as much. I have a funny feeling Megatron would do worse compared to what Starscream did."

"What did Starscream do?"

"Ruined my finish."

"Yikes," she said, "he went straight for the spark, huh?"

"It took me cycles to buff out his work."

"Hey, it could have been worse."

"I guess," he said. He looked at her. "I take it you like racing as well?"

"Me? Oh no, I don't race," she said.

He gave her a slight look. "Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't your name Stormracer?" he asked.

"I got that name from trying to get away from a rust storm," she said, "it just stuck."

"Then why were you at those races?"

"The first one, I was actually out for a drive when I saw you. The second... uh, well it doesn't really matter why I was there," she said, not wanting to tell him the reason why.

He smirked. "You could have fooled me," he said, "they're aren't a lot of bots who can keep up with me."

She grinned. "I do like driving in my free time," she confessed, "and I'm guilty of doing donuts every now and then."

"Well, don't tell anyone I said this, but I admire your driving skills," the mech complimented.

"Thanks," she said, "and I like your paint job. But don't tell anyone I said that."

Knock Out chuckled as he smirked at her. Just then they heard something above them.

"What was that?" the con asked.

Both looking up, they saw a larger portion of the rock ceiling slowly starting to give... and it was right over them.

"Uh oh," Stormracer said as she and Knock Out's optics widened in fear.

"Forget waiting for a rescue!" the con said, "we have to get out of here before we become sheet metal!"

Both desperately struggled to free themselves as dirt and rocks fell around them.

"Come on, come on!" the femme said, trying to move the large rock off of her.

Knock Out grunted as he struggled. Hearing something tumbling, he looked up to see a rock making its way towards him, making him yelp and shield himself. But the rock didn't hit him. Instead, it hit one of the rocks trapping him, causing it to move away from the doctor.

The con grinned. "Yes!" he said as he crawled his way out. Now free, he was about to make a break for it until he noticed Stormracer still trapped under the rocks. Knock Out looked at the cave entrance, wanting to make his escape to save his own skidplate. He looked back at the femme, seeing she was nowhere close to freeing herself. Looking at the cave entrance one more time, he made his choice.

Stormracer grunted as she tried to push the large rock off of her. She was beginning to think she wouldn't make it out. Just then she saw Knock Out appear beside her as he grabbed the rock and tried lifting it. She was surprised that he remained to help her as she continued to push. The rock finally moving, she got her legs out before the doctor allowed the boulder to fall. Soon as she was free, Stormracer got up as she and Knock Out heard the rock above them cracking. They didn't waste any time as they transformed and drove out of there before they could get flattened. Once they made it outside, they transformed and skidded on their pedes as they watched the rest of the cave collapsing.

Seeing the cave entrance no longer there, both the autobot and decepticon let out a vent of relief.

"That was too close," Knock Out said.

"Yeah," the femme said. She looked at the con and smiled. "Thanks for getting me out of there," she said.

Knock Out looked at her and smirked. "Now we're even."

She chuckled. "Yeah, I guess we are."

The con's smirk grew, only for him to remember she was an autobot. Getting rid of his smirk, he cleared his throat. "Well, now that that's done and over with, and there's no longer any energon here to fight over, I do believe this is where we part ways. And don't think this whole experience makes us chums. There's still a war going on."

Her smile now gone, the femme vented. "Right," she said.

Knock Out started walking away. "See you on the battlefield." He then transformed and drove away.

Stormracer watched as he disappeared through the forest. Letting out another vent, she contacted Ratchet and requested a groundbridge.

Out of her sight in bot mode, Knock Out watched as the femme disappeared through the ground bridge portal. He didn't want to admit it, but he rather enjoyed her company. She was alright... for an autobot.

Realizing what he was thinking, he shook his head and frowned. She was still an autobot, and he was a decepticon. And nothing was going to change that.

Even if he was starting to like her.

Transforming, he drove off, wanting to forget what happened.

(Later - Autobot Base)

Ratchet was patching up his assistant as she told everyone, minus Arcee and Jack, what had happened.

"Knock Out didn't hurt you, did he?" Sierra asked.

"No, he didn't," she said, "I mean, yeah we fought before the cave in, but he helped me out of there."

"Seriously?" Bumblebee asked.

"A con helping a bot. I find that hard to believe," Bulkhead said.

"Breakdown did the same thing for us, Bulkhead," Stormracer reminded him.

The green bot vented. "Yeah, I guess. But you gotta remember they're still cons. They won't hesitate to stab a bot in the back."

"Bulkhead is correct," Ratchet said as he finished patching her up, "when it comes to the decepticons, you must always be cautious."

Stormracer vented. "I know," she said as she stood up.

As the assistant went back to her usual work, she soon was lost in thought. For that short while she was talking to Knock Out, she almost forgotten they were enemies. She saw a different side of him. And she liked it. She enjoyed talking to him when he wasn't trying to be all menacing. But whether she liked it or not, they were still on opposite sides of a war.

"You okay, Storm?"

Looking down to see Sierra looking at her with concern, she gave her friend an assuring smile. "Yeah. All good."

Just then Arcee's voice came in through the comm unit. "Arcee to base. Do you copy?"

Optimus and Ratchet made their way over to the computer. "We're here Arcee," the prime said, "is everything alright?"

"How do you feel about having company over?"

Everyone looked at each other in confusion before Arcee explained what had happened to her and Jack.

(The next day)

Everyone waited for Arcee and Jack to arrive with their guest. Soon the motorcycle and teen arrived... with another human. The older dark haired woman looked around in awe as everyone looked back at her. They stopped in front of Optimus who was approaching them.

"Mom," Jack said, gesturing towards the bots, "meet my science fiction club."

All the bots gathered in front of them. Stormracer smiled at Jack's mom and gave her a friendly wave.

After a moment of staring at them, the woman gave a small smile and waved back.

And that's chapter 21! I hope you liked it! I do plan to have more Stormracer and Knock Out chapters later on, which will help their relationship to grow. The next one however won't be until season 2.

Next chapter is Metal Attraction. Also I want your guys opinion on Rock Bottom. Should I have Stormracer join Bulkhead and Arcee? If so, who would you like her to encounter? Megatron, or Starscream? Let me know in the reviews.

Also thank you for the reviews, I'm glad you're enjoying this story.

Thanks for reading and I hope to update again soon. Until next time! God bless!
