CHAPTER 4:
The next day, while on the road, somewhere in San Diego, Cat turned to Jade.
"So how would we find this mixtape?" she asked.
"Like I said, it's in a trash and treasure store here in San Diego," Jade said.
After hours of driving, Cat and Jade reached the parking lot of the trash and treasure store. The two girls went inside and looked at all the different sections of the store. There were places for jewelry, old coins, stamps, books, thrifted clothes and mixtapes.
"That's a lot of mixtapes," Cat said, dazed, as she glanced at the tapes laid out in cardboard boxes.
"And we'll look through every single one," Jade added.
After an hour or so Jade noticed Cat put a tape away. "Cat!" she said in surprise.
Cat looked back, startled. "What?" she gasped.
"That tape!" Jade said, She came over and looked at the tape Jade had laid aside. "It's the one."
"What?" Cat asked a bit vaguely, then her eyes widened. "OH! THAT!"
"I never really thought we would be able to find it," Jade whispered.
"Wow, it seems you love it almost as much as the Scissoring!" Cat mentioned.
"Not as much, mind you," Jade corrected.
"Only problem…" Cat paused. "Who do we know that still has a tape player?" Cat asked.
"The trash and treasure store is bound to have one," Jade answered after she thought for a moment
The girls searched the store. Before long they found a tape player, and brought both it and the tape to the front counter.
"That'll be $50," the female cashier at the counter told them. "$10 for the cassette player and $40 for the mixtape."
"Forty for the mixtape?" Jade asked her.
"Jade, you told me that it was only $20," Cat said in a whisper.
"I know," Jade said confidently. "And that was the price yesterday." She turned to the woman. "I think you've made a mistake."
"Nope; no mistake; that $20 you're referring to was back when we were having a half-price sale. $40 is the regular price. And a rare item like this could disappear fast," the cashier said.
Jade glared at her and then took Cat by the arm gently to talk to her a distance away from the counter.
"Well what do we do?" Cat asked.
"You don't have that kind of cash on you, do you?" Jade asked. Cat just shook her head as Jade gave a frustrated growl before giving in. "Fine! You're lucky I have just enough to cover it."
"Wait, what?!" Cat asked, surprised.
"I didn't expect that I'd have to clean out my whole wallet," Jade pointed out. "Here you go."
"Thank you. Enjoy," the cashier said, accepting.
Once Jade and Cat successfully finished their purchase, they left the store and once they were outside in the parking lot, Cat sparked up a conversation.
"Well, we got the tape," Cat told her.
"Yep. And this trip will be all worth it in the end. Now come on, let's get back to L.A.," Jade said as the two ladies drove away.
Cat updated her status on the Slap which read: "We got the tape! Woooo! - MOOD = Excited".
