"You look so happy," Kate preens. "You're welcome."
We're sitting in my office, and instead of going over the plans for an upcoming benefit the company is hosting, she's busy interrogating me. Well, trying to interrogate me. Our plan is going better than I thought it would.
She wants to hear about every detail of our date because she couldn't squeeze a word out of you when she dropped Jasper off at school today.
"Bella looked tired this morning and don't think I haven't noticed the amount of coffee you've been pouring down your throat." She wiggles her eyebrows. "Did the date go that well?"
I roll my eyes. It's your fault for keeping me up all night. You called me when I was climbing into bed. We spent hours with you asking me a million questions and answering a million and one of mine. I woke up to my phone half-dead and sticking to my cheek.
"Don't be a bitch."
"I'm serious. Look at that smile."
"I smile all the time," I argue.
"But this is a different smile."
"We had a lot of fun when she finally showed up."
Kate waves it off. "I should have known those heels were too much for her. I still can't believe she threw them away. I'm sure I could have gotten them repaired."
"I'll buy you a new pair."
"Nah. When the two of you get married, you can buy me that BMW we looked at a while back. You can surprise me with the color."
"I'll be sure to get it in shit brown to remind you what you are full of."
She rolls her hazel eyes.
"Don't you think you're moving a little fast, Kate?"
"Do you realize who you're talking to? Garrett got me pregnant on our first date." She bounces in her seat. "So, tell me about the kiss again."
Okay, so maybe she got a little out of me. Again, it's your fault. It's been a while since I've kissed someone, and my lips are proof of that. Luckily, my best friend is the only person who pays enough attention to notice.
"She stopped her driver and ran up the sidewalk, yelling my name. I caught her, and it just happened."
"Kisses do not just happen, Masen. First, kisses are very important. It sets the mood for your entire relationship."
Why does she already have the two of us in a relationship? "You have got to chill, Denali."
She hates it when I call her by her maiden name, something I've done since we were in grade school.
In all seriousness, I'm worried that she's going to scare you off with her exuberance. I really don't want that to happen because I already know that there's nothing like you, Bella.
