A/N Fair Warning! This was not an easy chapter to write and may not be easy to read. When I decided to bring the attack on the Twin Towers into this story I did it in as respectful a manner as I could. By bringing it into this and the previous story I also had to bring in the War on Terror, also known as the Global War. Now I'm faced with bringing something else into this story, simply because of the date I've placed this continuation at. It's currently the beginning of May 2004, Faith arrived for her visit at the end of April 2004. This date is significant because it's also when a journalist went public about Abu Ghraib, a horrific period in both the U. S. Army's and Government's history that should never have happened. It's necessary to reference it because I'm maintaining continuity with the previous story, A Twist Of Fate, by using the Harry Potter wiki reference for memory charms to explain Wesley's memory loss. The wiki states memory charms can be cancelled in one of three ways, by the original castor, if the original memories were traumatic or by torture. For the record, Wesley won't be tortured, I've made General Higgins to be an honorable man.

"Wesley Wyndham-Price, formerly of the Watchers Council, formerly of Angel Investigations and formerly of Wolfram and Hart, informally known as Evil Inc. That's an interesting resume." General Higgins smirked at Wesley, who glared back at him.

"You're Faith's boss? What are you doing with her?"

"Helping her be all she can be, quite possibly the greatest Slayer ever, hopefully the longest lived and if the Magic users can crack the power that creates a Slayer in the first place and marks Potentials, the last Slayer ever."

And now Wesley was confused. "Why would you want to make it so there weren't any more Slayers? They safe guard humanity!"

"They're sacrifices made by cowards who pretend they're fighting evil when they really aren't. As I reminded Faith when she signed on, humans have never needed anyone to fight our battles for us, we could take down Mastodons with wooden spears, you think we can't handle demons? On Corporal Harris' first assignment with Demon Command, he planned and participated in an attack on a Hanoch nest. One with probably around a hundred of the nasty suckers, plus a nest full of eggs. He planned very well and his team destroyed them all, plus the nest, in less then thirty minutes with no injuries to the soldiers. In the four years since this Command was established we've wiped out hundreds of thousands of demons and vampires worldwide and our allies have established their own Demon Commands and are accomplishing the same thing. Faith, herself, has participated in a number of wide scale engagements as part of a very well trained and well armed team. Armed with far more than a stake. You, yourself, have seen the value in firearms and that Watchers team your Council sent after Faith used them, so I know the Council was familiar with them. There was absolutely no excuse for sending a Slayer out armed only with a stake, no protection and no back up or support. It was nothing more than a devil's bargain. You traded those little girls lives for power, while claiming you fought evil. You even made it the motto of the Watchers Council, 'the Council fights evil, the Slayer is the means by which we fight.' Fighting evil with evil simply doesn't work, Mr. Wyndham-Price and convincing yourselves the gods wanted it that way was pure ego."

"We've stopped an untold number of apocalypses."

"We've stopped a few too, including when Buffy Summers was tricked into activating every single Potential worldwide, one of our Seers had a vision about how it would cause the world to turn on the Slayers and begin hunting them. We succeeded in reversing what she'd done and locking the First away, hopefully permanently. Yes, Magic was involved and yes Buffy, as the Slayer, who caused it, was involved, but she didn't even know she'd actually caused that particular apocalypse. Speaking of Magic, Samantha Grand, the Magic user that examined you, says a memory charm has been used on you. Memory charms can be broken in one of three ways, by the original castor, by torture or if the memories connected to the charm were traumatic."

Wesley sneered at the General. "Does that mean you plan to torture me like Faith did? Just to help me regain my memory? Do you hope there's useful information in there?"

The General's lips tightened in annoyance. "I may not like you or think much of you, but I'm an honorable man and unlike those Abu Ghraib assholes will not dirty the uniform I proudly wear by resorting to such disgusting tactics. You don't need to concern yourself, neither I nor anyone I command will ever do such a thing."

"Forgive me if I don't believe you, as I said before, I have been tortured before. By Faith, the girl you're protecting."

"She was very broken than, we've worked hard to put her back together and she really is remorseful about it and knows she can't ever make up for it."

"No, she can't." Wesley agreed. "But the fact that she's doing better helps. What do we do now?"

"Now we charge you with the crimes you're responsible for and wait for your memory to come back, there may be more crimes we can charge you with buried in there."

"How exactly do you expect my memory to come back if you're not going to torture me?"

"I'm told it's inevitable, now that you know you're under a memory charm because the memories are connected to traumatic things. Things like how you got your throat slit."
