Lev stopped clapping his hands as the Holy Grail fell from Saber's dead body, and he casually picked it up. His attitude was of someone that knew the weight something held, but simply didn't care about it.
"Lev!" Olga cheerfully shouted his name, trying to run towards him. Yet, she was stopped by Mash, who grabbed her arm and didn't let her get close to him. "What are you doing!? Let me go!"
Shido had to take some deep breaths to control himself, from doing the same as her along with making sure that he was still healing from Camael. As even if he did want to go to the man he thought died, be happy he is alive and have all of them go home together, he couldn't let himself do that.
After all, he had to question why he came at such an opportune time. It was way too suspicious for him to write it off as a simple coincidence.
"–Lev." Shido called out to the man, standing infront of Olga as if to protect her despite her protests. "I want to ask you something."
The man smiled, in such a carefree way that made Shido shiver, as it was like the man didn't care at all about the current situation, where they were located nor anything like that. "Go ahead. I would be glad to answer your question."
"Tell me, why are you here? Romani said you died in the explosion."
"Well, I would have to say that–"
Cutting Lev off, a hologram of Romani appeared. "–Guys! What happened!? We have seen a bunch of our reserves used! Did you guys already fight against Saber!?"
"Hey, it is a bit rude to talk over someone, don't you think Romani? And honestly, I asked you to go to the command room immediately – trash who can't follow orders should just go die. "
Romani froze as he saw Lev standing there, and his eyes widened in shock before they narrowed. "..Lev. I thought I could trust you, but I guess you're the traitor in our midst, huh?"
"Wh-what are you guys talking about!? There's no way Lev could do something like that! He's been helping us since the start! He-He's one of the only people I can trust!" Olga tried forcing herself to go to him, and while she did overpower Shido's attempt due to his very weakened state, she was stopped by Cu.
With an arm grabbing her collar, keeping her in place with his vastly superior strength, Cu stared at Lev with cold eyes.
"Ha..hahahahahahahaahahahahahah!" Lev let out a laugh, his face twisting into an inhumanely cruel expression that made Shido's body shiver. "It seems like I don't need to keep up any of those idiotic pretenses."
Olga's entire body shook as she looked at Lev. It seemed as if tears started to appear at the edge of her eyes.
Shido could feel anger well up within him as he looked towards Lev's figure, his inhuman grin never faltering. "Why..Why did you do all of this!? What did you gain from all this death and destruction!?"
"Hahahahahahahahahaha!" Lev let out a laugh that made Shido feel goosebumps on his skin. "Why do I need to answer a question of a pathetic human like you?"
"L-Lev, what's going on? Co-come on, I know you can't ac-actually be the one behind this. Stop joking around, please!" Olga shook her head, trying her best to plead with Lev.
Though, Lev only sighed as if disappointed in her. "You know, I should ask you something myself."
"Go ahead! I'll answer anything!"
"–How come you're here?"
"Huh?" Olga's face feel flat, confused and befuddled by his seemingly out of nowhere question.
"I don't mean about you being in this location, but I mean how are you in this Singularity at all. After all, you should know well enough why it's normally impossible for you to be in one. Don't you?" Lev gave a smile, a smug one that seemed as if he held all the answers yet didn't explain anything.
However, surprisingly for Shido, Olga fell to the ground, eyes wide and hastened breathing. He knelt down next to her and grabbed her shoulder.
"Are you okay?"
Olga didn't seem to be capable of answering, so in her place, the hologram of Romani spoke up with a grimace. "–She can't really be. I mean, I suspected it but I didn't think it was actually true, or more like I hoped it wasn't."
"What's the problem? What did you hope wasn't true?" Shido asked, worried for Olga as Mash got closer towards the two.
"The Director, despite her very clear capabilities as a mage and the quality of her magic circuits, doesn't possess the aptitude to rayshift. Her body isn't capable of that no matter what you try."
Shido was confused by her words as after all, if that was the case, "–How did she get rayshifted with us then?"
Mash looked uncomfortable, as if she didn't want to tell him the truth. "That's the matter at hand. The fact is that her body doesn't allow her to be rayshifted. No matter what, her body limits her in that respect. So the only way she could be rayshifyed with us–"
"Is if she had no longer possessed one at the time of rayshift. Meaning, that in reality, Olga had died in that explosion and all that's with us is her mind, the residual thoughts left after death. It is a major irritation, especially considering how I set a bomb right under her myself so she would die easily. Yet, she is here with all of you. So, if she was to be sent back together with you as mere residual thoughts.." Lev seemed to barely be containing his laughter as he spoke.
..He's lying.
There's no way he's telling the truth.
He's just trying to screw with us.
I can't let myself bel–
"Kid. I know you want to deny it. But it's the truth." Cu placed a hand on his shoulder, as if in comfort.
Shido felt his throat being dry as he asked, "Is..is there no way to save Olga..?"
"I.." A chocked voice, sobbing and barely audible quietly muttered, one that Shido had to take a second before he recognized it as Olga's voice. "I..don't want to..die..I want to live..I want to live..I want this to just be a dream..Please.."
..Just how much of an idiot am I?
I was trying to deny this, to believe it was false and that it wasn't true. But that wasn't what I needed to be doing.
"Honestly, even if he is a horribly disgusting being that can never be compared to my liege, I expected more out of the human who that accursed Wizard Marshal put under his protection. Well, it was inevitable that you would disappoint me nonetheless, so I guess that isn't surprising."
"..Olga. You don't have to worry, I know a way for you to live." Shido stood his ground, his eyes burning with determination and conviction as he glared at Lev. "And you just reminded me of how to do that, you bastard."
"Oh, then go ahead and go on with your futile attempt." As if it was a game, Lev grinned as he looked towards the group of them all. It made Shido become all the more motivated to prove him wrong and defeat him.
"Romani. The issue is that Olga's soul doesn't have anywhere to go when she returns, right?"
"Yeah. If she had a body for it to return to, or even a vessel, then it could work. But her mind will only seek out her body that doesn't exist, and we don't have enough time nor resources to make a solution." Romani looked dejected at his own words, though Shido instead looked even more sure of himself.
Turning back to Olga, he knelt down to her and spoke to her with a smile. "Olga. I need you to trust me right now. Can you do that?"
"H..How can I trust you!?" Olga slapped his offered hand away, anger, bitterness and many other emotions expressed on her face. "Lev ju-just told me he killed me! Lev! How do I know I can trust you!? What if you're just trying to let my guard down!? There's no way I can trust anyone anymore!"
Even as she yelled in his face, slapped his hand away and her words cut through him, Shido didn't react with anything else than a smile on his face. Olga tried to crawl away, yet just before she could, Shido grabbed her hand.
"Let go! Let g–"
"If you believe I'm trying to trick you for my own benefit, then how about you make sure I'm not?"
"Master!" Mash worriedly yelled out, as Shido said those words while he put the arm of Olga's he grabbed, the one she used to fire off her spells, against his forehead. He even moved her fingers so that it was in the same gesture as when she fired off her Gandr spell.
"I might have incredible regeneration, but my powers can only do so much. If you shoot my head while my body's still being healed, I have no doubt in my mind that I'll actually die." Shido's eyes shined with a golden color, burning with a simple wish, to stop the girl infront of him from crying.
"If you fire a single spell, I'll die. Now, I'll ask you again. Can you trust in me? If not, then can you at least trust in the memories we made in the short time we've known each other? That when you cried to me about everything you were facing and feared, that it wasn't a lie? If you don't feel anything, don't trust in what happened that night, then get rid of the person you're afraid will betray you." Shido continued to hold her hand up to his forehead, even as her body started shaking and eyes looked panicked.
"I-I can't.." Olga's voice shook, eyes scanning the area frantically and teeth clicking against each other.
"You have to choose, Olga. No matter what, just make sure it's a choice you won't regret." Shido felt he was being cruel to force her to choose, but he knew she couldn't afford to not make a choice either. This was a matter she, and she alone had to think about for herself. He only wished that he could let her have more time until she would be forced to make this choice, but there sadly wasn't any.
"I-I.." Olga looked hesitant, not sure of what to do. Though, in a few moments, she spoke as her body still shook. "I'll trust in you.."
Olga pulled her arm down, away from Shido's forehead and Shido felt himself flooded with relief at the fact. Not only in that he would survive, but that she trusts him.
It should work. But if it doesn't…No, it's way too late to be having second thoughts like that. I need to trust in myself, and the gift she gave me.
"Close your eyes if you want. And please don't hit me after." Shido put a hand to her cheek, and before she could voice any of her confusion at his words, he dove in.
It was the one method he knew to be tried and true to save those close to him. It was a method that had allowed all the previous spirits to return to being normal humans, letting them live normal lives and continue their lives. In fact, it had even taken down a Demon King that once harmed Ellen Mathers.
His lips touched hers.
"Wow! I didn't expect you to do that, Master. Well, I guess you are way more interesting to be doing that in such a tense situation."
Ignoring Angra, Shido pulled away from Olga, whose face became bright red. His eyes looked over her, making her more embarrassed, but that wasn't what Shido was focused on.
If it went according to plan, she would probably have some sign that a connection was made between them. Even just that familiar warm feeling should've been good enough, yet that didn't happen at all.
"I'm sorry, but bare with me for now." As Olga was still recovering, he quickly did it to her again. Her face became even more flush, yet his face twisted in confusion after they separated.
"–Are you questioning why your rather, unique method doesn't work?" Lev asked with a grin on his face. "Why, it's rather simple. You see, while you can certainly hold various powers in your body, when did you get the idea that you could transfer another mind, another soul inside your body?"
Lev didn't even bother hiding the amused expression on his face and enjoyment in his eyes. "If your ability could do that, wouldn't all those girls you had saved before had their minds and souls trapped inside yours? Or what, do you believe you can just transcend that sort of limit to your abilities whenever you wish?"
"You're seriously getting irritating now, you bastard." At Cu's words, vines wrapped around Lev and a fireball shot towards him. It was so quick, Shido barely noticed before the area Lev was engulfed in flames.
Yet, a clap echoed once again a short bit away. There stood Lev, outside the attack radius and completely unharmed with a cocky grin on his face as he twirled the grail in his hands. "That is truly a great display of ability. For a trash dog like you."
"..What even are you? You sure as hell ain't human, that's for sure." Cu spat his words out with disdain towards the man.
"Well, why should I answer a dog such as yourself? Rather, let us get back to the topic at hand, shall we?" With a quick dismissal towards Cu, Lev seemed to refocus back to Olga and Shido.
Shido felt his hair stand on its ends at seeing Lev's gaze, as he only just realized how truly dangerous the man named Lev actually was. After all, if he could survive an attack from Cu, then that would mean he is someone on par with a Heroic Spirit. That wasn't even mentioning the lack of any injuries on him.
I feel like it could've been thanks to the grail, but with how Cu worded that, I don't know if he used it at all.
Shido could only hope it was only due to the grail that he survived, and not due to some other reason.
His cruel smirk widened, as in the sky, replacing where that unexplainable shadow had been, something else appeared there. It was like there was a tear in the very space infront of it, and inside is what seemed to be the same giant orb as in the Chaldea control room, except a bright red.
"Look on, for this is the result of your hard work, Olga Marie Animusphere. This, is [CHALDEAS]! This is the fate of what your entire life, your entire being was devoted towards!" Lev exclaimed loudly, laughing as Olga couldn't even move, her body frozen with shock and tears pouring down her face.
"Is he insane!? He used the grail to open up a gateway to [CHALDEAS]!?" Romani's hologram yelled in shock, sounds of alarms blaring in the background of his transmission.
"I..its completely red.."
"Correct you are! There is no trace of blue across any of it! Gaze into your folly, into your mistake and the tragedy you brought forth! It is truly beautiful, is it not?" Lev responded to the hopeless Olga, who, similar to Shido, couldn't stand up to Lev's power and could only watch.
She shook her head, body shaking and her hands clutched Shido's shirt as if it was a lifeline. "T-there's no way. I can't have messed up like that. I-it must have been your fault! What did you do to my [CHALDEAS]!?"
Lev lost his grin, his expression became disappointed as he sighed. "You know, it was never 'your' [CHALDEAS] to begin with. You really are an annoying girl."
Olga's body lifted up, defying the laws of gravity as she let out a voice of confusion, yelling out, "H-huh!? What's going on!? It feels like I'm being sucked in!"
"You know, there is no grace in killing you as easily as I can. So instead, I'll grant you your wish. You may go and touch your dearest treasure." Lev's face twisted into one of cruel amusement, while Shido wrapped his arms around Olga, keeping her body grounded as best as he could.
"Are you talking about [CHALDEAS]? It's a high density body of data, it's even classified as a territory of dimensional anomaly. If the director touches that, then–"
"–She will experience a hellish disintegration on a molecular level. You're correct as always, Krielight." Lev cut off Mash, spread his arms wide, laughing as he spoke. "Touching it would be eternal death akin to being absorbed by a black hole or the sun itself! I would recommend letting go of her, candidate #48."
Olga's body pulled itself towards the tear in space, more than what Shido's body weight could keep grounded. Quickly, he slammed Camael into the ground to try and use it to keep them from flying away.
Though, the Angel wasn't able to root itself into the ground properly. They would have both flown into [CHALDEAS], if it wasn't for Mash grabbing them and using her demi-servant strength, keeping them from being sucked in.
Shido was grateful, but he could barely keep hold of Mash as his body was breaking apart to keep hold of Olga, healing it up as it did so.
"P..please don't let go! I don't want to die! I don't want to disappear!"
Hearing those words, Shido grit his teeth and ignored the pain of his finger snapping before it got repaired by Camael.
Still, Camael wasn't all powerful. Even Shido knew that fact. He knew that eventually, Camael would fail to heal an injury and not be able to catch up. In fact, Shido could feel that happening to him at this very moment.
"Don't..worry.." Shido grit his teeth as he gave a smile to Olga, one meant to reassure her. "I'll..make sure to..save you!"
"..Do you want me to help you, Master? I can if you wish to. Though, don't get me wrong. There will be a big price to pay." Angra spoke up, getting close to Shido and seemingly unaffected by the pull himself. Possible meaning Olga is the only one it affects.
"Yeah! Do whatever you need to! Just make it so that Olga can live!"
Angra grinned wickedly. "Don't say I didn't warn you."
Just then, Olga screamed as Shido saw something held in Angra's hands. It was shining a bright golden color, yet it seemed off for some inexplicable reason.
Only after a couple moments did Shido realize that it was the Holy Grail.
"Angra..how do you–"
Angra cut off Shido before he could even ask his question. "Did you know something? Saber, or rather, King Arthur cannot be transformed like that without a corrupted Holy Grail to influence her."
"So, how come such an untainted Holy Grail was held by her? The answer is that it was a secondary Holy Grail she was given. Most likely to maintain this singularity or whatever else this cocky bastard wants."
Lev glared at Angra, spitting on the floor as he remarked, "It seems like you're as disgusting as ever, Angra Mainyu. Rather, why are you even helping your master at all?"
Angra gave off a carefree grin, shrugging his shoulders as he ignored Olga's cries caused by his use of the corrupted Holy Grail. "Why not? He can be irritating as any human can be, but that'll make seeing him break apart later down the line all the more fun."
"Hey! What..are you doing..to Olga!?"
Angra turned to Shido, a sadistic smile on his face. "Now, now. Did you think you were going to pay the price? No, that would be Olga herself."
"Or, are you surprised why this mutt here is helping me?" Angra asked, his eyes exaggeratedly rolling over to the servant standing next to Angra, Cu as his hand grabbed Olga, feet firmly planted into the ground through some roots. Some strange unfamiliar markings appeared across Olga's bodies from the area Cu was grabbing her by.
"Shut up you bastard. You don't get to say anything when you only end up relying on me." Cu sighed, Olga's screams intensifying as the markings spread and grew across her entire body.
"..What are you doing? Do you truly wish to save someone as useless as her? I actually had thought you were as smart as some trash could be to last this long, but it seems like I was wrong." Lev seemed exasperated by them all and their attempts at saving Olga, like he was disappointed in some way by the choice.
"Don't get in my way right now." With that short word, Cu returned to his task with haste, strange runes glowing across Olga's body and even connecting towards Shido's, as he felt some strange yet familiar energy flow between Olga and him.
The runes glowed a bright crimson, and they shifted. Immediately, Shido felt the same bond he could recall from the spirits forming between him and Olga. So, with the last remaining strength he had in him, Shido pulled Olga just an inch closer towards him and met her lips.
He didn't know for sure it would work. He wasn't sure it would be any different this time. –However, from the depths of his being, his very soul, he hoped, prayed that this time, it would work.
The pull on his body disappeared, he fell flat onto the ground and could feel his nose break for a second. Though that pain paled in comparison to that of him possibly losing Olga, so he looked up to see if she was there, and took a breath of relief at seeing her standing infront of him.
Strangely, he saw her body slowly being dissolved into light, and worry started to flood him.
"O-Olga, are yuu okey?" Shido asked her through slightly slurred words, and in response she gave a smile towards him.
"If I'm honest, I don't know. I have no idea what is going on or what's happening. But for some reason, I just know that I'm not dying now. I can feel this strange warmth inside of me, and I don't know what it means, but I do know one thing." Olga knelt down infront of him, her leg already having dissolved into light particles completely. "I know it means you just saved me."
Before he could ask anymore, Olga disappeared into particles of lights that fell on top of his bruised and broken body.
Shido could only stare in shock, Olga's figure disappearing–just like Tohka–and in his stupor, the ground started to break apart. Shido didn't know if it was truly the end, but he could feel that the conclusion to this singularity was finally drawing near.
Hey, been a while guys. I am really sorry for the suuper late update. Got a bit unmotivated to make a chapter for a while, then I had midterm exams and culminating so that really pushed this back. I do have final exams coming up now, but I figured that since I already made most of the chapter, to quickly finish it and edit it to finally give you all another chapter.
Again, I am super sorry about the late chapter and everything. When I'm done with exams, I'll try to get out another chapter quickly for you guys.
Hope you enjoyed this chapter. After the next one, we'll be done with Singularity F and go on with a brief 1 or 2 chapters for character interactions, introspection and the like before moving onto the next singularity.
