CHAPTER 11: What's Real?

The gate to exit the Build-a-Friend room finally opened up, revealing a dark hallway. She walked down the hall and tested the two doors on the side of the hall. Unfortunately, both were locked. Sighing in resignation, she walked farther down the dark hallway. Just before she could enter the new hallway, Huggy Wuggy emerged from the shadows, his smiling mouth wide open, revealing two rows of pointed teeth. Koa yelled in surprise and backed away. Remembering her gun, she pulled it out of its holster. Before she could even aim the gun, Huggy smacked her right across the face, knocking her down and causing her to drop her gun, making it slide away across the floor. Koa held her right hand to her eye and scrambled to her feet, running away from the still advancing Huggy Wuggy. Koa ran to the conveyor belt vent and scurried inside, hoping to lose Huggy.

After sliding down the belts, she saw Huggy through another vent, causing her to panic and crawl faster. Just then, Huggy appeared right in front of her and was approaching fast. Luckily, there was another vent right to the left of Koa, and she wasted no time crawling as fast as she could away from Huggy. However, she didn't make it very far, and she felt Huggy grab hold of her and force her to look at him. She screamed in fear while he roared in her face and bit on her head.

….

….

(Unknown Scientist) He is loose.

"Oh, isn't it amazing?! Mommy hasn't seen the place up and running in years! Mommy can only imagine how excited Bunzo must be. It's been such a long time since he's been able to play. To cheer. To eat."

All of a sudden, cymbals crashed right above her head, causing her to look up and see a large toy rabbit holding cymbals hanging right above her.

"Oh, that's the dinner bell! Good luck!" With that, Mommy Long-Legs disappeared from the observation window.

There were so many buttons surrounding her, from colors, to mathematical symbols, to punctuation marks, to different shapes. The screens in front of her started saying a pattern much too fast for her to be able to keep up with. Suddenly, a stop button could be seen circling her, but it was moving too fast for her to hit it with her Grab-Pack hand. Suddenly, a loud scream sounded right above her, forcing her to look up just as Bunzo clapped his cymbals on her head.

"The toys in this game used to have strings attached to them so they could be pulled back when they got too close to the children." Mommy said rather darkly. After a pause, she continued, "Hmm. Have fun."

She disappeared from the observation window, and the game began. Movement was heard all around her. She managed to hit a few Mini Huggy Wuggies with her Grab-Pack, but then a red Mini Huggy came out of nowhere and squeezed her neck so hard and tight that she felt it snap.

….

….

(Harley Sawyer) Thank you, science.

….

….

"It was always so sad to see the kids go. They called me 'Mommy' because I was the closest thing they ever had to one. But they come for games, and never come back. They left Mommy to die alone! Mommy didn't deserve that! But you," her voice became dark and sinister, "you worked here! So if anyone deserves to die alone, it's you."

She disappeared from the observation window and the lights came on and music started playing. PJ Pug-A-Pillar started crawling towards her, forcing Koa to run. The second the lights went out, she froze. She turned her head slightly to watch PJ continue to crawl to her. The lights however, didn't come back on, and PJ was right on top of her, roaring in her face and then biting down on her head.

….

….

(Harley Sawyer) THIS RESEARCH MUST STAY BURRIED! NOBODY MAY LEAVE!

….

….

Mommy Long-Legs roared as she dropped from the vent right on top of Koa, forcing her to dive out of the way. Mommy was disheveled and her limbs where longer than before, and she was furious.

"I asked you to play fair, and you CHEATED!" She yelled as she ripped a pipe off the wall, with steam screaming out of the busted pipe. "I HATE CHEATERS!"

Koa backed away to the gate that was blocking her path, panting in fear. "You hypocrite! You're the one who cheated! You rigged that last game!" Koa yelled frantically, but this only infuriated Mommy, as she started to growl and shake in absolute rage.

"Now, we're going to play one, last, game!" She smiled as she snapped mentally, starting to shake more and she snarled her next words, "It's called… hide…and… SEEK!"

Her pupils widened so much that only a thin line of her green irises was visible. Mommy was clearly in a frenzy. She started counting backward from ten. Koa tried desperately to open the gate, but it wouldn't open. She began to cry hysterically as Mommy slowly approached.

"FIVE!... Four… Three… Two…"

Mommy pounced right on top of her with a roar. Koa screamed as Mommy bit onto her neck.

(CatNap) The Prototype has saved us!

….

….

She was in the school within Home-Sweet-Home, she had managed to get the generator going. Just then, out of nowhere, came a disfigured humanoid toy, Miss Delight. She started smashing the generator with her handmade mace. Once the generator was destroyed, she turned her attention to Koa. Koa did her best to keep her distance, remembering from a note she found that Miss Delight uses the shadows to move around and freezes when the lights come on. She did her best to get as much distance between her and the homicidal teacher, but the lights flickered off again, and Miss Delight was right in her face, screaming and clubbing her on the head with her mace.

….

….

(CatNap) Isn't he wonderful?

….

….

The Mini Smiling Critters snarled and giggled all around her. Koa started to panic and sped up her pace to find a way out. She was running out of flares and she needed to find a way to weigh down two large buttons to power a cat-walk that was high enough that the little toys couldn't reach. She fired her last flare at an approaching Mini Hoppy Hopscotch, forcing it to retreat into its hole, but more Mini Critters started to surround her. Panicked even more, she ran to a tunnel as the snarling and giggling got louder. The end of the tunnel revealed a dead end, trapping her like a rat. She turned around and screamed just as a Mini PickyPiggy squealed and ripped out her throat.

….

….

(Poppy) I need you alive.

….

….

"Listen to me," DogDay pleaded. "You need to get out of this place! You need to live! You and Poppy can fix this! End this madness! The torment! The-"

Suddenly, the Mini Smiling Critters started flooding the wall and crawled inside DogDay through his torn torso as he pleaded loudly, "Oh no! OH NO! Leave me! PLEASE! JUST GO! RUN!"

DogDay screamed as a Mini Bobby BearHug crawled into his head through his eye. The violent thrashing caused the brittle belts holding DogDay prisoner to snap. DogDay gagged and groaned as he began crawling out of the cell, possessed by the Mini Critters. He then started advancing towards Koa. She ran back the way she came, but the floor underneath her collapsed, and she landed hard. She was too slow to get back up, and the possessed DogDay was right on top of her. She could swear she heard him scream 'NO' as the Mini Critters forced him to maul her to death.

….

….

(Poppy) We need revenge! Get up!

….

….

The Red Smoke surrounded her. She could hear CatNap approaching, but she couldn't see him. She had run out of flares, and the Grab-Pack's flare gun was taking too long to reload. She could see CatNap approaching, and she didn't need the flares to see that this CatNap was the real one. She tried to position herself better to charge the receiver that would activate the steam pipe that was right above CatNap's head. Before she could charge the receiver, CatNap grabbed her by the leg, pulled her down with a vicious roar, and ate her alive.

….

….

(Poppy) I won't wait for you! Get up!

….

….

It was dark all around her. Koa couldn't see anything, but she could hear screaming all around her. She could hear creatures roaring and snarling. She could smell blood, and there was a lot of it as the smell was thick in the air. Suddenly, bodies began to appear all around her. Some of them she recognized as former co-workers, some she didn't recognize, and others were mutilated beyond recognition.

"Koa."

She froze up in shock.

"Koa… what have you done?"

That made her tense up more. She looked around trying to find where the voice was coming from, but he was nowhere to be seen.

"Daddy?" she whispered in fear.

"We trusted you to resolve this." The voice of her mother sounded.

"You failed your mission." That was her older brother Dakota's voice.

"You failed to save your co-workers." Said a voice that belonged to her brother, Joshua.

Koa began to pant in fear. She shook her head, "No, I-"

"You failed to stop the Prototype." She heard her brother Noah say.

"I didn't! I haven't even faced him yet! I haven't," she stopped, beginning to cry.

"You said you'd protect me." This voice sounded closer. She turned around and saw DogDay, his body mutilated further than it had been when she rescued him. "You said you'd help." DogDay said with betrayal in his voice.

"DogDay. I-"

She was cut off when she felt pain in her left shoulder. Like she was getting pricked with needles and her skin was being pulled.

"I-"

"I was wrong about you." Poppy said, appearing next to DogDay. She was covered in blood and her voice held no emotion. "I trusted you. Believed in you. But I was wrong."

"Poppy?"

"You…thought…you could… stop…me?" An amalgamation of voices sounded all around her. She held her shoulder and looked around trying to pinpoint the source of the voices. "You're…. Poppy's angel? Thought…. You could…. Defeat me?"

Suddenly, Koa realized that was the Prototype speaking to her.

"Come out and face me, you coward!" All of a sudden, she felt a new pain in her shoulder, like the pain you feel from getting an injection shot.

"Coward?" The Prototype repeated using Koa's voice. He chuckled mechanically, then spoke in different voices, "I find your presence intrusive. After all this time you return. You come in here and you kill and murder. You pillage and destroy! Your presence was demanded ten years ago and you didn't show up. 8.8.1995. You were supposed to be here. Why weren't you here? You missed the event. You missed the meeting. You missed the party! You have no right to be here! 8.8.1995. You are… no different… from the rest! I will… eradicate… your kind for what… you have done to us!"

Suddenly, her family, her brothers and parents, were standing next to DogDay and Poppy, mutilated and bloodied. Koa started to scream in denial and pain. She felt something stinging her face. She placed her hand on her face but felt nothing. Then she felt something wet on her lips, and came to the conclusion that she was crying, despite not tasting salt in the tears, but instead it was like pure, fresh water. She fell to her knees and held her head in her hands. The hand of The Prototype reached down for her.

DogDay continued to watch over Angel. Poppy had been gone for a few hours now, and Angel's condition was getting worse. He kept breathing his Vanilla Smoke at her to help her, but it was having little effect now. Angel's breathing was getting more labored, and her fever was rising. Poppy had been keeping him up to date with good news: she had found the medicine and a few other supplies to help Angel recover. She said she was on her way back, but that was nearly two hours ago. DogDay was starting to worry that Poppy had gotten caught, but what worried him most was the thought of the Prototype showing up at any moment to finish him and Angel off. But DogDay promised himself and Angel that he would protect them with everything he had.

DogDay turned his head to the sound of a dragging noise and grunting coming from the vent that Poppy had left in, and it was getting louder with each passing moment. After a minute or two, Poppy appeared at the opening of the ventilation shaft.

"Poppy! Thank goodness, you're back!" DogDay quietly yelled to not disturb Angel or alert any possible threats to their presents. He crawled to the vents to help Poppy down and to carry down the first-aid kit Poppy had brought with her.

"I'm sorry I took so long," Poppy apologized. "I wanted to be sure I had everything we may possibly need. Luckily, I didn't run into any trouble."

DogDay sighed in relief and carried the kit over to Angel while Poppy ran over to her side. DogDay set the kit down in front of Poppy, and she opened it, revealing bandages, gauzes, wraps, needles, sutures, disinfectants, and some antibiotics. Poppy had even found and retrieved bottled water while searching for medicine. Just then, Angel started to mummble in her sleep. It didn't take long for Poppy and DogDay to realize she was stuck in a fever induced nightmare. They looked at each other worriedly and knew they had to speed up.

DogDay got to work cleaning the wounds, and Poppy, after disinfecting the needles, began suturing the wounds. After the wounds were sealed, DogDay cleaned them again for extra measure. After disinfecting a needle for an injection, DogDay held the bottle of antibiotics while Poppy filled the needle with an appropriate amount of the medication. Once that was done, Poppy cleaned the spot for the shot, and DogDay administered the shot as slowly and gently as he could. After giving the shot, DogDay wrapped up the wounds with the gauzes and bandage wraps.

Once they were finished with Angel's shoulder, they started cleaning and bandaging the wounds on Angel's face, as they were starting to get infected as well. They also got to work on cleaning other wounds that littered Angel's body. Once they were done, they saw that Angel really was in rougher shape than they anticipated. She was pale from blood loss, covered in bruises, and her eyes had dark rims from complete exhaustion. DogDay then grabbed and opened a bottle of water Poppy retrieved, held up Angel's head, and slowly poured a little water into Angel's slightly opened mouth. After pouring a little more into her mouth, he saw her lips and mouth moving like she was unconsciously swallowing the water. He poured a little more water into her mouth to help her hydrate and fight the infection.

A few hours later, Angel was still unconscious. Both Poppy and DogDay took turns looking after her, and made sure she got more water as well. Poppy was keeping watch while DogDay was resting, his head and hand on Angel's abdomen, but sleep eluded him. Angel's hand suddenly shifted slightly. Very slowly and weakly, she placed her hand on DogDay's head. DogDay's eyes shot open. He glanced over to her and gently took hold of her arm in his hand, slightly lifting his head from her abdomen.

"Angel?"

To be continued...

And we have reached the end. And I left it at a cliffhanger!

DogDay and Poppy work together to heal Koa's wounds while Koa is trapped in a fever induced nighmare.

I used the reversed audio in the nightmare the player has in Home-Sweet-Home before being chased by Nightmare Huggy Wuggy.

I really hope you guys enjoyed my first story! Looks like, until after Chapter 4 of Poppy Playtime is released, or until I can think of more miscellaneous chapters for this story to publish, this story is on hiatus.

Don't worry, though. I actually have an idea for another story for DogDay and Koa sturring in my head. I may reuse some of the chatpers or events that happened in this story, but that is yet to be determined. But I'm definitely reusing Koa's injuries to her face.

Oh, and have an end credits song for the story:

Savin' Me by Nickelback

See you guys next time!
