After a few days spent at home, AJ keeping Heath and Maryse busy with taking care of Sara- who is now toddling around, grabbing everything, and babbling all over with more real words than gibberish coming out of her sweet mouth, the men head back out for No Mercy.
Heath won't be staying for Raw, he has business with his school that requires his attention on Monday, but he hangs out in Mike's locker room and watches with some amusement as he grits his teeth some more over Jason Jordan getting this opportunity for no good reason except for who his father is. "Ya know he did win that match," Heath offers, quailing back when Mike glares at him. "Just sayin', man. It wasn't all Kurt's doin'." He grins when Mike huffs.
"Whose side are you ok?" he grouses before sitting down next to Heath and pressing his chin to his hand, watching the preshow disinterestedly. "It doesn't matter why he has this opportunity, that's all it's going to be- an opportunity that he ultimately fails at because there's no way I'm allowing him to get his fingers on this." He hoists the belt higher, senses Heath's eyes following it hungrily, and then feels a little bad for rubbing it in that in all of his career, Heath's only had one real opportunity for the belt.
He puts it down and they sit in silence for awhile until it's time for Mike to go. He does as he said he would, defeating Jason and retaining his belt again. "Told ya," he says with a simple smirk as he returns to his locker room afterwards. Well, there had been a moment or two where fear had licked up his spine and he'd thought Jason maybe would get it, but no. Not this night, not that easily. He lays the belt down and pats it before turning to look at Heath. "So, school business, huh?"
"Yep." Heath stands up, dusts his hands off. "Gonna be a day or two 'fore I can get back. You'n'AJ take good care of Maryse for me, yeah?"
"You know we will," Mike tells him, clapping him on his shoulder. "She's in good hands, don't worry about it." He pauses, then laughs at himself. "What am I saying? You're a daddy to be, of course you're going to worry about it."
Heath makes a face. Then exhales. "Just a lot can go wrong, y'know? She... we could lose it, or... she could realize I have no clue what I'm doin', and leave me to find someone really deservin' of her, or..."
Mike blinks. The first, yeah, he'd worried about a fair amount when he and AJ had waited for Sara, but the second... to think Heath could consider such a thing. He shakes his head, tugs Heath closer and looks up at him. "Hey, don't be ridiculous, man. Have you seen the way she looks at you? She loves you and it's clear she thinks you deserve her, even if you're doubting that." He squeezes the back of Heath's neck and smiles up at him when he gazes at Mike hopefully. "Don't doubt what you two have, alright? It's just going to add unneeded stress to this whole situation and you should enjoy as much of it as you can. Trust me. I know what I'm talking about. Especially when we're on the road so much, you have to enjoy every moment you possibly can through the morning sickness, the cravings, and everything that comes with it. She's going through a lot, and you're going to be her main support, alright?"
Heath nods. "Right. Yeah. Sorry, just... had a moment."
Mike smirks up at him, squeezes his neck again. "No problem. Just make sure whenever you have one of these, you come to me and I'll smack you out of it. Alright?"
Heath laughs. "Alright, Mike."
"C'mon, let's get out of here," Mike sighs, tired of the arena and wanting to see to his wife and daughter before getting some sleep. Heath looks as eager to see Maryse before he has to head out to his school, so they quickly collect their things and head out.
Raw is being held about half an hour away from Mike's house so he's actually allowed to sleep in the next morning, but doesn't, choosing instead to get Sara her breakfast and watch AJ sleep instead. Heath leaves after waving quietly at him and kissing Sara on the forehead, Maryse still out in the guest room, hand curled lazily around her stomach and hair sprawled out over the pillows. "It's not often we're the only ones awake," he says, poking his daughter's nose and making faces at her when she blinks up at him. He hoists her out of her chair and kisses her sloppily, laughing as she pats his face, grips at his hair, and says a slew of things that make little sense, but "Daddy" is somewhere in there, he thinks, so he's never felt so happy to hear a lot of babbling in his entire life.
By the time AJ wakes up and joins him, he's about ready to leave for the arena, handing the baby over to her and kissing her slowly on the mouth, lingering. "I'll be home as soon as I can," he tells her. She beams up at him and makes Sara wave at him as he leaves, blowing kisses to them.
Roman Reigns is his guest on MizTV. It goes as well as one could imagine. Mike brags about beating Jason Jordan, taunts Roman about the Shield, mocks him about Cena, and everything else he can think of. He wants to go home as soon as this is done, but of course his mouth gets him into a match against Roman later. Which he loses, but Bo and Axel have his back and between the three of them, they get him down and they keep him down with a steel chair, doing the Shield fist taunt over his prone body, Mike sneering as the crowd boos him.
Finally, finally, he gets to go home and quietly lets himself in, not too surprised to find AJ sitting up waiting for him, nursing a glass of chocolate milk. He laughs at her softly before joining her, tilting his head in thanks when she hands him one in kind. "It's not a frosty, but it'll have to do," she says, cupping his jaw and bringing him in closer for a kiss.
He chases the chocolate on her tongue and hums. "It's better than a frosty, trust me," he chuckles, resting his head on her shoulder and kissing her neck lazily.
"Picking a fight with Roman, was that smart, husband?" she asks softly, grazing her nails down his cheek.
"Maybe not, but it felt right in the moment," he says quietly, mouthing at her collar bone. She exhales roughly when he takes her glass and places it on the table, easing her down onto the couch and covering her with his body, kissing her slowly, deeply. "Just like this does."
She giggles and shakes her head, patting his hip. "You're awful."
"But you love me for it," he murmurs against her skin, feeling her shiver.
"True, I do," she sighs, humming as she arches up into his touch. "If Maryse catches us-"
Mike chuckles, leans up and clicks the lamp off, casting the room into darkness. "Now if you're quiet, we'll be fine."
AJ makes a scandalized gasping sound and pinches him. "Should be if you can stay quiet!" she hisses at him before dissolving into laughter, shaking her head. "Shut up and kiss me."
He does.
