Sheriff vs. Agent
Chapter 4 Full court press
SOUTHERN INDIANA, VINCENNES
COFFEE SHOP SHOCK
Claire walks into her favorite coffee shop. She orders her favorite skinny latte and turns around to find a table to sit at. She bumps into the man behind her.
"I'm sorry-
"Claire?"
"Johnny? Oh my god." She almost faints. He extends a hand to steady her. "I can't believe this; it's been-
"Six years, I know. Can we talk?" He asks.
"Sure, my coffee's coming right up."
"Let me help you to a booth. I'll get our beverages, then I'll join you." He helps her take a seat; then collects their drinks, brings them to the booth and sits down across from her.
"6 years, wow. And now bumping into you at a coffee shop. Fate, maybe?" He winks at her.
"Could be," she smiles. What have you been doing, Johnny?"
"Got my veterinarians license, now practicing in a 4-person clinic in Elkhart. You?"
"I'm a deputy sheriff down here in Vincennes. But I'm spending time with a sheriff I just met; maybe going to replace him. Looking at how things work there, you know."
"Hey, can we get together this weekend. A movie maybe?" Johnny asks.
"Well, my next 3 weekends are tied up. Unless plans change. Can I have your number in case I need it?" She winks at him. "By the way, what are you doing way down here in Vincennes? If I might ask?"
"Ah . . . business. Nothing exciting." He looks off into the distance. "I sure hope some of your time opens up, Claire."
"Sure. We don't want to mess with fate, do we?" She responds.
They pass their phones and make themselves contacts.
They finish their coffee drinks, making small talk.
"Nice to see you, Claire. I hope we can get together."
"Me too, I'll call if some time opens up, promise."
"Great, bye." He gives her a peck on the cheek.
"Bye, Johnny." She has an uneasy feeling. Damn that LEO 6th sense; activates when you don't need it. Or do I need it?
She and Johnny had some good times in HS, and into college. Then during their sophomore year, they drifted apart. They met other people (him mostly) and she was in no way ready to commit. So, she really hadn't thought anything about him. But now?
Then there is Marty Deeks. What is there? She does get that feeling when he is near. And him catching her in that trust exercise! His strong arms, Oh My God! But he may not be long for Indiana. There may not be anything for her to hang on to. These next 3 weekends will be very interesting, indeed!

RING
"Sheriff's office. Deputy Anderson speaking. How may we help you?"
"Deputy, this is Kensi Blye. A friend of Sheriff Deeks. May I speak with him, please?"
"Hey, Kensi. Sorry, Sheriff is out patrolling. May I give him a message?"
"Ah . . . yes. Please tell him that I'm sorry that we haven't connected. I would really like another chance to see if we can't schedule some time together. Is that too much?"
"No, that's fine. I'll give him the message when he comes in. Anything else?"
"Yes, would you happen to know if there is another barn raising coming up in the near future?"
"Hm, let me check our calendar . . . yes, there is one this coming weekend. Can you come; they are great fun, lots of work though!"
"I will be there. Can you let the sheriff know, please?"
"I will. You'll enjoy it, I am sure. Bye."
"Bye, deputy."

RING
"Mama D's B&B. Susie speaking."
"Susie, this is Kensi."
"Kensi! Has Martin talked with you?"
"We've had trouble connecting. But listen, I am coming for the barn raising this coming weekend. Can you save me a room for Friday-Sunday nights, please?"
"You bet! Anything else, dear?"
"I left the message with his deputy, but can you tell Marty when you see him? And, is there anyone in the Amish community that should know that I am coming?"
"I will make sure they know! It will be great to see you, my dear. I think it's time for a full-court press. Don't you?"
"My thoughts exactly! Bye, Susie."
"Bye, Kens."

SHERIFF'S OFFICE
Sheriff Deeks parks the patrol car and ambles into the office. Deputy Anderson is listening to some blue grass music, his feet up on the desk. He drops his feet with a thud when Marty enters.
"Tough afternoon, eh." Marty smirks.
"Well, it just might get interesting, sheriff." He hands Marty Kensi's message, with a smirk on his face.
Before he reads the message, Marty reads the deputy's face. He doesn't like what he sees. He goes into his inner office and sits down. It's a good thing he is sitting.
He reads the message – "SHIT!"
Deputy Anderson smiles.
"WHEN DID THIS COME IN?"
"And you didn't call me?"
"It didn't seem that important, sheriff."
"I hope you get a couple classes on importance at MSU, deputy of mine!"
"Yes, sir. I'll watch for that."
"Damnit!" Door slam.

"I have reservations for a Claire Mason, and a Kensi Blye. You are double booked, son."
"Mama, say it ain't so, please."
"Oh, it definitely is so, Martin. What you gonna do?"
"I don't know." He runs his hands through his hair.
'Help me Lord'
