They don't discuss it, not really. Kind of move around it, move around each other, ignore the tension in the room. Look away whenever they catch each other's eye, focus on whatever they might be doing- Mike wrapped up in media to promote his new show, Cannonball, John lost in the usual ridiculous amount of creative ventures he's usually trying to sort out in his own mind. AJ notices, Taya notices, but they're all busy and there's just no time before Mike and John have to fly back out for Smackdown that week.
Mike's thought about it, his guilt, why exactly he had done what he did that night. Selfishness, the same kind of self-centeredness that had led to their friendship fracturing in the first place at the WWE draft all of those years ago. He thought he'd grown from being the person willing to throw John aside at the first chance he had to make himself seem more important than he truly is, but maybe... maybe not. He closes his eyes and pinches his nose, lost in thought. He nor John are booked in matches this week and MizTV always is an easy time-filler, so he agrees to host that this week when Adam Pearce asks what he wants to do.
He considers who to have guest on the show, and eventually decides on Mandy Rose. There's a method to his madness, not only is he annoyed by how Otis is coasting through life right now- hot girlfriend, literally had the Money in the Bank briefcase fall into his hands, on and on and on- but there are deep undercurrents to the situation whenever he looks at Mandy. She'd recently suffered a huge falling out with her long term best friend, and... well, the logic is there, anyway. He's fairly sure where one goes, the other will follow, so it's not a huge surprise when Sonya interrupts and their verbal confrontation turns physical.
Mike and John can't help but snicker among themselves over it, just for all fun and games to come to an end when Mandy slaps Mike hard across the face, leaving him gaping as she turns and flounces away. John, to his credit, looks shocked and a bit worried when Mike looks over at him. For the first time all week, he really looks at his tag partner. Sees nothing out of the ordinary, just warm concern and muffled amusement. "Hey, you ok, man?" he asks, hand warm as he rests it on Mike's shoulder.
Mike looks at him, looks at his hand, and exhales, some of the tension leaving his shoulders. "Are we ok?"
John's surprise eases into a considering look, before he shrugs. "Of course we are, Mike. I know what the world title means to you, so yeah it stung a little, but I get it. It wasn't our fault they changed the match last minute the way they did."
Mike closes his eyes for a second and presses closer to John's warmth. "No, it most certainly was not," he sighs, relief flooding through his system and erasing the discomfort stinging through his cheek thanks to Mandy.
"C'mon," John says cheerfully. "Let's go get something to eat from that place down the block you like so much on our way back to the hotel, that'll help, I'm sure."
Mike smiles. "Yeah, I think it will." He pauses, however, and grips John's jacket. "Hey, but seriously, thanks, John. I know after everything I really don't deserve your forgiveness, but-"
John smiles at him, eyes twinkling. "Hey, you get it anyway, alright? No worries. Now come on, I'm starving."
Mike chuckles and follows him through the curtain, some guilt and doubt still remaining, but a lot more manageable than it has been for the better part of the past week.
