Hey everyone!
I'm not even going to apologise for how long between updates. Real life just... bit bad in October and I barely had time to breathe. Anyway guess who decided to do NaNoWriMo and is actually writing again? That's right. Me. I'm also entering some calmer months for the winter so I doubt I'll hit the 50k monthly total but I'm writing again and starting to write every day again. I really hope to get back to some sort of normal pattern with updates and I'm hoping that this month will help me.
Thanks for sticking with me.
Lots of love,
LSH xx
Finally Belonging Somewhere-Part 104:
Narcissa was relieved to have been reunited with her daughter and she wasn't happy about her daughter having been around Muggles but the delight on Aurora's face was enough for Narcissa to let things slide.
"I have lots of new books to read mummy," Aurora said as she looked at Narcissa, sat on her lap, "Kenzie and Aislynn and Greer showed me some of their books and I wanted them so we went to get some! Now I have a lot of books to read!"
Narcissa chuckled softly before turning to Maggie as she was offered a cup of tea and the woman spoke to her,
"I know it's a lot to take in," she said, "my girls instantly took a shine to Aurora and we are more accepting of Muggles and Muggle things here," she said and smiled softly.
"I'm sure my husband and I can learn to accept that. After all Draco and Astoria are to be married in the future," Narcissa replied before she sipped the drink in front of her, "Kenzie looks like she's Hogwarts age…"
"Yes she is. She and Jamie are at Hogwarts, in Ravenclaw," Maggie said, "we never thought things would become as serious as they have between Draco and Astoria so we never said anything about them but, obviously, you should know now as the situation has very much changed."
Lucius had silently appeared at his wife's side and he looked at Aurora before turning back to Maggie.
"We should have been told but we can understand why. Aurora loves Astoria and it's clear that she loves this family as well," he said, "we will accept what we have to for her sake," he said before dinner was announced, much to the relief of Maggie and Jen. They hated knowing the truth about Aurora and not being able to say anything about it because of Aurora being there. It was hard and Lucius had said that there would be a visitor joining them later but he wouldn't say any more than that as Aurora didn't even know about his sister.
Dinner went well and Aurora was telling Narcissa about everything that she'd done since arriving in the Highlands and her eyes lit up when she spoke about the piano and learning to play the tune with Kenzie and Greer. Narcissa listened to everything Aurora was saying and was doing her best not to turn up her nose to it all. James and Cait were watching and could see that Aurora's joy meant more to the mother than what she'd done, much to their relief. The last thing they wanted was Lucius and Narcissa's views to affect anything when Aurora was thriving in the Highlands… that and it was obvious that Draco and Astoria were a good match, even if they were still fairly young when it came to their ages.
Cait had wanted to know more about the mysterious visitor but it was clear that Lucius and Narcissa were not going to say anything in front of their daughter so they left the matter alone.
"Right everyone," Jen called above the noise and after the main courses had finished, "the children… yes you too Miss Aurora… are heading back to Maggie and Cal's for desert and the adults will get some peace and quiet for a while!"
Naturally Aurora had been about to protest but Astoria rushed to the girl's side to reassure her. Aurora had sighed and pouted before conceding and looked at Jen. The catch was Jen knew who the mystery visitor was and the importance of Aurora not finding out too early as well.
The kids headed off with Calum and Maggie back to their house and Jen had slipped away to the study to see if Meredith had arrived or not. Relieved to see that she had, Jen offered her a drink and the two spoke for a while before James, Cait, Lucius and Narcissa arrived.
"Sorry," James said, "who is the newcomer?"
"My younger sister," Lucius said, "Meredith has been away on a top secret Auror assignment and we were banned of even speaking about her but she's back now for a while and has to finally meet her niece," he said, "and no she won't be vanishing again soon either."
"I have warned thar it might not go down well with Aurora," Jen said as she sat on the arm of the chair that her mother was now occupying, "I also won't delay with my findings on Aurora as I know that Lucius and Narcissa are anxious, even if they hid it well," she said with a glance at the parents.
"What's wrong with her?" Narcissa asked, "what's going on with Aurora?"
"She has something the Muggles call autism," Jen said, "it's a condition that affects the brain and is a lifelong developmental disability that, as you have seen, affects Aurora's ability to communicate with the world," she said.
Lucius and Narcissa looked at each other before asking Jen to explain more. Being a Muggle known disability meant that they had many questions that they needed answering and explaining to them. For once the parents were glad that their future in-laws knew about Muggle things as it was exactly what they needed at that moment in time.
"I know it is a lot to take in but it doesn't change things too much," Jen said, "yes it does slightly change things a little but you've been doing things right in order to help your daughter," she said and smiled softly before explaining some more to Lucius and Narcissa as the drinks turned into wine and whiskey as the evening went on.
"Thank you Jen… for looking at her and explaining everything to us. It is a lot to take in and process but we can do that whilst we are here with Aurora and see how we can help her even more, with the correct guidance," Lucius said before they heard the children… Astoria, Draco, Aurora and Daphne… rushing towards the study and Narcissa's eyes widened as she realised this was not the way she wanted to introduce Meredith to her daughter.
She looked at Lucius and had barely moved when Aurora burst in and went straight over to Narcissa and told her what she'd been doing at Calum and Maggie's before she turned and looked at Meredith.
"Who's that mummy?" she asked as she pointed at Meredith.
"She's Daddy's sister… your Aunt Meredith…" Narcissa said, but that was all she could say as Aurora had run out of the room unsettled by Meredith's presence and who she was. Now the search was on to find Aurora.
