Chapter 74: Our Cup Runneth Over!

"It's Sinnoh Now!"Rhonda reported. "Flash! That elegant contest master, Wallace, has made his appearance in our beautiful sinnoh region! Best known as the young genius of the Hoenn region, Wallace rose to the top as the Sootopolis City Gym Leader and finally, Champion Master of the Hoenn region! And because of Wallace simply not knowing the word, quit, this young man already rose to the top with the title of Top Contest Coordinator! Together with his trusted partner, Milotic, this talented young man has achieved the impressive rank as Contest Master!"

The TV shows sideshows of Wallace and Milotic from the time he was a gym leader to when he won the Grand Festival.

"The pride and envy of all pokemon coordinators!"Rhonda stated. "So in honour to his achievement, we're proud to present the exciting pokemon contest that bears his name...The Wallace Cup! That's coming up after all of these messages! So don't you touch that dial!"

The Twinleaf Twins were watching TV in a Pokémon Center with Pachirisu, Ambipom, Piplup, Eevee, Grotle and Drifloon, who were eating their poffins.

"The time for this most special event of the pokemon contests, the Wallace Cup is now!"Rhonda announced. "The location of this beautiful event is one of the three lakes; Lake Valor, which is now we're accepting entrance!"

The screen showed Wallace and his Milotic.

"So which one of you will prove to be the finest coordinator to be in Sinnoh? I'm at Lake Valor to find out!"Wallace remarked.

"Milo!"Milotic responded with a smile.

The twins and their pokemon were excited to find out Wallace was going to be nearby at Lake Valor.

"Awesome!"Dawn admitted. "I can't believe Wallace is actually there."

Denise nodded. "Yeah, this is so exciting."

The two sisters turn their attention to Ash and his pokemon training outside (accompanied by Buneary, Luxio, Hoothoot and Kirlia) for Ash's upcoming challenge at the Pastoria Gym.

Buizel was battling Turtwig and Pikachu.

"Quick!"Ash ordered. "Turtwig, Pikachu spin and dodge it!"

Both Turtwig and Pikachu spun around to dodge Buizel's Water Gun.

"Turtwig use Energy Ball! Pikachu use Iron Tail!"Ash ordered. "Let's go!"

Turtwig used Energy Ball and Pikachu uses Iron Tail.

Buizel blocked the attacks with its tail.

Then Pikachu spun his tail in circles and send Buizel flying but the water type landed safely on the ground.

Buizel and Pikachu congratulate each other while Brock clapped at them.

"Now that was some impressive work."Brock commented.

Ash, Chimchar and Buneary went up to Pikachu and Turtwig.

"Turtwig your Energy Ball is starting to get powerful."Ash admitted. "You'll rock in the Pastoria Gym."

"Turtwig."Turtwig replied with a smile.

Buneary was impressed with Pikachu and showed her feelings to him.

Kirlia giggled at the sight.

"It looks like Pikachu learned some moves that Raichu was using in their battle."Brock said while patting Happiny's head.

"You bet and since Pastoria is a water type gym, I am planning to use electric and grass types to ease up the score."Ash stated.

Pikachu and Turtwig nodded in agreement.

"We're going to raise our game to the next level!"Ash said proudly.

"Have you decided who are you going with yet?"Brock asked.

"I've decided Pikachu and Turtwig, but I'm not sure of the rest."Ash answered with a unsure look.

Gligar launched himself onto Ash causing the pallet town trainer to hit the ground.

"At least you know how Gligar feels about it in certain terms."Brock remarked.

Ash and his pokemon continued training together.

Dawn and Denise walked forward with their pokemon.

"Wow, Ash is so incredible."Denise said softly. "It seems no battle is too much for him and the way he works with his pokemon is amazing."

"Yeah."Dawn agreed and a teasing smile grew on her face. "That's why you like him right?"

"Huh?!"Denise said in shock and her face turned red. "Like him? Well, his positive attitude is something I admire a bit."

"Well never too late to tell him, I like you."Dawn giggled and looked at her pokemon. "Come on, let's go train!"

Ambipom, Piplup and Pachirisu rushed after their trainer.

"Like Ash?"Denise asked with a unsure look and her arms folded. "We're just friends, nothing else."

Eevee snickered a little earning her trainer's attention.

"No, I don't like anyone else!"Denise responded with a frown and looked at Dawn. "Come on, sis! Show them what you got!"

Grotle and Drifloon smiled at each other, knowing their trainer had a secret crush on somebody.

"Thanks Dennie!"Dawn answered and looked at Buneary. "Buneary, come over here!"

"Bun!"Buneary said happily and rushed up to her friends.

Dawn took a deep breath and smiled.

"Now I know that you all have been worried about me lately."She said. "But now it's our time to shine!"

Buneary, Piplup, Pachirisu and Ambipom cheered at their trainer.

"First a warm-up!"Dawn commented. "Alright Piplup, let's get going with Whirlpool!"

Piplup used Whirlpool.

"Buneary, you use Bounce!"Dawn ordered.

Buneary started bouncing forward.

"Ambipom, quick, you use Swift!"Dawn ordered. "Pachirisu, Discharge!"

Ambipom and Pachirisu fired their attacks.

"Alright that's the way it's done!"Dawn said. "Now let's do it more bigger and with more power!"

Dawn's pokemon combine their moves with each other making them bigger.

Ash and Brock watched with amazed looks.

"Wow, look at them go!"Ash said.

"Dawn, your doing it all wrong!"Denise protested. "Remember what Zoey said? The pokemon are the main stars not their moves!"

"Oh my gosh, your right!"Dawn shrieked.

Panicking, Dawn runs forward to tell her pokemon to stop, but she ends up getting zapped with Discharge, drenched with Whirlpool, blasted with Swift and stomped with Bounce in the process.

Denise, Ash, Brock and their pokemon rushed up to Dawn.

"Hey Dawn!"Ash said.

"Oh my gosh!"Denise replied worriedly.

"Are you okay?"Brock asked.

"No need to worry."Dawn assured and stood up. "That's what I like to say, but I don't feel so good."

Then her hair becomes frizzy causing her to look down in sadness.

"What happened out there, Dawn?"Ash asked sadly.

"See I was focusing with all those moves, big and powerful as possibly as I could, but then I remembered I was doing it all wrong."Dawn answered in shame.

Denise bend down and placed a comforting hand on her twin sister's shoulder.

"Hey, no need to worry."She reminded. "We're in this together."

"I say your moves looked pretty powerful."Ash commented.

"You don't have to be so hard on yourself."Brock agreed. "You should focus to make your pokemon moves to make them look appealing."

"Yeah but instead of doing that, I ended up giving everything I own."Dawn admitted.

"Hey, everybody!"

The heroes see Nurse Joy comes over with Rhonda and her crew.

"Can we talk for a minute?"Nurse Joy asked.

"Of course!"Brock flirted. "We can talk for a minute, for an hour or a day or forever!"

Croagunk poison jabs Brock causing him to drop on the floor.

"If there was any amount of time."Brock muttered.

Croagunk dragged Brock away while Rhonda and her crew watched him.

"Hey Rhonda, it's been a while."Ash remarked.

"Right."Rhonda answered. "I was wondering if you happened to see contest master Wallace around here did you?"

"Whoa, Wallace is here?!"Denise said in disbelief.

Dawn quickly stood up and fixed her hair.

"Hanging around here?!"She added.

"Who's Wallace?"Ash asked.

"What does he look like?"Brock asked.

"You never seen Wallace before?"Dawn questioned.

"And you said you travelled all around Hoenn."Denise commented in disappointment.

"You have now."Rhonda replied holding a Wallace magazine. "Isn't he a dream boat?"

"So Wallace uses a Milotic does he?"Brock said.

"He's only the biggest superstar coordinators are dying to meet."Dawn admitted lovingly.

"And the two of us are among them."Denise remarked with a lovey dovey look.

"Wallace regularly travels all over the Kanto and Hoenn region, holding the Pokémon Contests that bears his name."Rhonda explained. "It's called the Wallace Cup, and as you can probably guess, Wallace is its main promoter! Also the prestigious Wallace Cup Ribbon counts as an official ribbon at any of the competition all over the country! This year's Wallace Cup is to be held at Lake Valor!"

"Hey, you do know that Lake Valor is right on the way past Pastoria City?"Brock reminded.

"Your right."Dawn agreed. "And I am thinking of entering the Wallace Cup myself."

"Me too."Denise remarked.

The two sisters pokemon cheered happily.

"Wow, you two haven't competed in a long time ever since the Solaceon Contest."Ash stated.

"Pikachu!"Pikachu agreed.

"So that's why you were so pumped up during your training."Brock said with a smile.

"So Rhonda, what did you say about Wallace hanging around here somewhere?"Dawn asked with her eyes sparkling.

"It's his day off and because of his whole staff refuses to tell me where Wallace is."Rhonda replied. "But my sources tell me that he's around here."

Brock and Ash became surprised while Dawn and Denise squealed in excitement.

"A shot of Wallace would be priceless!"Rhonda admitted. "So need us to say, we've just got to find him! So, if any of you see him, you've got to let me know!"

She walked away with her crew until Jack slammed the microphone on her head.

"Would you cut out this nonsense and get a grip already!?"Rhonda snapped. "We've got an exclusive to cover!"

"So Wallace is in the same forest as us."Dawn said.

"Man, how lucky can we get."Denise chuckled.

"You both wanna meet Wallace?"Ash asked. "Then let's look for him together."

"Pikachu!"Pikachu responded happily.

The other pokemon cheered in agreement.

Afterwards...

Ash, Dawn, Denise and Brock look for Wallace in the forest and come across fog near the lake.

"So where do you find a famous guy?"Ash asked.

"I don't know."Dawn replied. "I don't see a thing."

"Piplup!"Piplup said and pointed at a direction.

The heroes turned their heads and saw mist in a lake.

"What's that?"Ash asked.

"It looks like some kind of fog."Denise responded.

The heroes hear singing and see that it was coming from a Milotic.

"Wow that might be a Milotic."Dawn said as she took out her pokedex.

"Milotic the Tender Pokémon and the evolved form of Feebas."Dawn's Pokedex said."At the first sign of fighting, Milotic will come up from the bottom of its lake habitat to calm any angry feelings."

"Milotic's singing is so beautiful."Denise admitted softly.

"Eevee..."Eevee whispered.

When the fog cleared, Dawn sees Wallace sitting on a rock nearby.

"Whoa, it's Wallace!"Dawn said.

Brock, Ash and Denise follow her gaze and see the top coordinator.

Milotic stopped singing and went underwater.

"Hello everyone."Wallace greeted.

The heroes sat down listening to Wallace.

"Ever since I arrived in Sinnoh, my schedule just never seems to end."Wallace explained. "Talk shows, magazines, radio even back at the hotel, fans are, all over me, I pleaded with my staff to give me just one day off, so I can have some quality time with Milotic."

The heroes and Wallace watched as Piplup, Eevee and Pikachu played with Milotic in the water.

"They are sure having fun."Dawn commented with a smile.

"Milotic hasn't looked this happy since we arrived in Sinnoh, my beautiful Milotic."Wallace said.

"Beautiful indeed."Denise agreed kindly.

"Why thank you."Wallace answered as he went off the rock and stroked Milotic's head. "The most important for pokemon and trainers to know is kinship, should you forget about that, your pokemon will never shine."

"You are so right."Dawn answered. "I feel bad that we bothered you while taking a break."

"We won't tell anyone you were here."Denise assured.

"That's very nice, thank you all."Wallace replied.

"Hey Wallace, wait!"Ash said as he stood up. "Both Dawn and Denise are coordinators too and since they're gonna be in the Wallace Cup, you're gonna see them again for sure."

"Oh is that so?"Wallace asked. "Then I'm honored to have both Dawn and Denise as our entrants."

He looked at Dawn.

"And if you wouldn't mind, Dawn, I would love for you to see your contest moves and your sister's right now."Wallace stated.

The two sisters stood up holding Piplup and Eevee.

"Right now?!"They said in unison.

"That's great, you two, what an opportunity!"Brock commented. "You can't pass up a chance for a real contest master to watch you two personally work."

"He's right."Ash agreed. "Think of how you both will be ready for the Wallace Cup."

"I guess so, but..."Dawn started.

"I have an idea, sis."Denise said. "How about we battle each other like we're in a contest battle?"

Piplup nodded. "Piplup!"

"Right."Dawn responded with a smirk and bowed at Wallace. "Thank you, Wallace."

"How about we go over there?"Wallce asked and pointed at a direction.

"Sure!"Brock, Ash, Dawn and Denise said in unison.

The heroes followed Wallace to the other side of the lake where the twin sisters battle will take place.

"I don't think I've ever been this nervous in my life."Dawn said with a sigh.

"Piplup."Piplup replied.

"I hope you guys are ready for this."Denise remarked with a smirk.

"Eevee!"Eevee chirped and stood in a ready stand.

"We sure are, Dennie."Dawn replied confidently.

"Piplup!"Piplup agreed.

"Then bring it on!"Denise encouraged.

"Okay, Piplup use Bubble Beam!"Dawn ordered.

Piplup fired Bubble Beam at Eevee.

"Eevee, Shadow Ball!"Denise ordered.

Eevee fired Shadow Ball at Piplup's bubbles which destroyed them.

"Now use Water Gun!"Denise ordered.

Eevee fired Water Gun at Piplup.

"Piplup, spin and dodge it!"Dawn ordered.

Piplup spun and dodged Eevee's Water Gun, surprising Wallace.

"Great now use Peck!"Dawn ordered.

Piplup charged forward and his beak started to glow white.

"Eevee use Attract!"Denise ordered with a smirk.

Eevee winked and sent hearts at Piplup causing him to stop attacking and fall in love.

"Uh oh!"Dawn panicked.

"Alright, Eevee now use Thunder!"Denise ordered.

Eevee send her electric attack at Piplup causing the Penguin Pokemon to get hit, but the attract went off.

"Piplup use Whirlpool!"Dawn ordered.

Piplup sent a Whirlpool at Eevee causing her to get trapped in it.

"Eevee!"Denise shouted.

"Now Piplup use Peck!"Dawn ordered.

Piplup went into the Whirlpool to hit Eevee with Peck.

"Eevee, swim up and use Shadow Ball!"Denise ordered.

Eevee swum out of the whirlpool and leapt up high.

"What a jump."Wallace remarked. "It seemed the water bring out the best in Eevee."

Eevee fired Shadow Ball at Piplup causing it to combine with Piplup's Peck making a bit of smoke.

Piplup and Eevee then landed back safely on the ground.

"Bravo, sis!"Denise chuckled.

"You too, Denise."Dawn added.

"Wow, wonderful performance from both Piplup and Eevee."Wallace commented while clapping. "Shall we ended there?"

"Sure."Denise agreed and looked at Eevee. "Well done, Eevee."

Eevee smiled. "Eevee."

"Great going, Piplup."Dawn giggled and held Piplup high.

The heroes and Wallace sat down next to a waterfall.

"Denise, I see the way you've been training Eevee, its impressive."Wallace admitted. "The way she swum out of Piplup's Whirlpool to attack was the unexpected and improved her speed limit. In other words it seems your Eevee has a love for going into water."

"Really?"Denise asked in surprise and smiled. "Thank you, we have been doing some swimming lessons together."

"Eevee."Eevee said sweetly.

"What do you think of Dawn and Piplup's performance?"Brock asked.

Wallace looked at Dawn and Piplup.

"The way you used your moves were flawless, very well researched and rehearsed."Wallace explained. "But I heard some things from Brock about focusing on the moves itself."

Dawn had a troubled look on her face.

"Think for a moment about Piplup's nature."Wallace said with a wink and stood up. "It can't be all about dramatic performance so I suggest keeping it more natural, Dawn, I've been wondering have you played with your pokemon lately?"

"Play with them?"Dawn asked and stood up. "Your right, I have been concentrating too much on working and contests. The truth is I've been thinking about myself, I've been putting my needs over my pokemon the whole time, I guess we haven't been playing much at all have we?"

"Piplup."Piplup replied with agreement.

"Aha!"

The group see Jessilina coming up to them with her two guards.

"Trying to hide from another Contest star like yourself, Wallace dear?"Jessilina asked. "Come, come, it's not fair sharing your talents to the ones who appreciate them."

"And you three would be?"Wallace asked.

"I'm too am an idol!"Jessilina chuckled. "With one ribbon design under my belt from yesterday! The lovely Jessilina!"

She walked up to the top coordinator and held his hands.

"The loveliest of your fans and this magnificent Milotic must be the precious pokemon in the whole wide world."Jessilina remarked. "And here I am getting up close and personal with the both of you."

She took out a pokeball.

"Now watch this!"Jessilina stated. "Go Seviper!"

Seviper appeared out of its pokeball wearing a hat that looked similar to Milotic's head.

"A teensy tribute to you and your pokemon with my starstruck style."Jessilina laughed.

"I'm flattered but you might want to remove that when you compete."Wallace admitted while sweat dropping.

"I'll say."Ash responded.

Brock nodded in agreement.

"Of course, I'll be entering the Wallace Cup, too!"Jessilina stated. "So make sure you blow me kisses and chant my name! Jessilina! Jessilina!"

James and Meowth quickly grab a hold of Jessie, telling her to stop making a fool of herself.

Wallace looked at his Milotic.

"Milotic shall we demonstrate to these young Coordinators what a wonderful day of relaxation and play can do?"Wallace asked.

The heroes became excited hearing that.

"You mean, you'd put a performance for us?"Dawn asked.

"Sure."Wallace responded. "My way of thanking you for a wonderful time."

The heroes and Team Rocket watched as Milotic went to the surface of the water.

"Let's begin, Safeguard!"Wallace ordered.

Milotic used Safeguard making it glow in a green light and mist gather around.

"Beautiful."Dawn whispered.

"Aqua Ring!"Wallace ordered.

Milotic uses Aqua Ring and water bubbles circle it.

"Awesome."Ash said with a surprised look.

"So mysterious."Denise said lovingly.

"Now that's a move to bring out a pokemon's best."Brock admitted.

"I want one right now!"Jessilina begged.

"Use Dragon Pulse!"Wallace ordered.

Milotic uses Dragon Pulse making the water bubbles disperse and it flies around Ash and friends.

Meowth touched Milotic's skin.

"So soft like a baby's behind."He remarked while blushing.

"Finish with Twister!"Wallace ordered.

Milotic finished with Twister gathering wind and water around itself and blowing it outward.

The heroes were stunned of what they just witnessed.

"How did you do that move?"Jessilina demanded. "I want to use Aqua Ring!"

"I'm terribly sorry, but Seviper can't perform Aqua Ring."Wallace apologised.

"But it's dressed up like Milotic!"Jessilina protested.

"But it's still impossible."Wallace chuckled.

"Meanie pants..."Jessilina mumbled.

"I'm looking forward to seeing you all at the Wallace Cup!"Wallace stated as he went on a rock. "Thanks for a nice time."

He then went on Milotic and they depart in a wave.

"Wow, where did he go?"Ash asked.

"I'll tell you he is a real contest master."Brock remarked.

"He performed so well."Denise complemented with a stunned look.

"With Wallace in the center of my cheering section, I'm sure my next contest is as good as won."Jessilina said.

"Really?"Brook, Ash, Dawn and Denise responded while sweat dropping.

Jessilina smirked and looked at the two sisters.

"Now don't tell me that the two of you are entering too."She replied.

"We are."Dawn answered.

"Perhaps if your sister lucks out this time, she'll be able to pass the first stage this time."Jessilina teased.

Dawn and Denise glared at Jessilina with angry looks as she walked away with her two men.

"You both will be great, you know it."Brock assured.

"No need to worry."Ash remarked.

"Right."Dawn and Denise responded in unison.

Later that Night...

Ash, Denise Dawn and Brock were watching Marian interview Wallace on TV back in the Pokemon Center.

"Thanks to our special guest Wallace, the one and only..."Marian announced.

"Wow and to think we hang out with him all day."Ash said with a smile.

"It's easy to say that I'll put my pokemon first, but it's not really easy to actually do."Dawn admitted. "I really need to appreciate about what's truly special about each of my pokemon, I'll do my best."

"Me too, sis."Denise answered as she stroked a sleeping Eevee in her lap. "After meeting Wallace today, I have learned so much about bonding with my pokemon."

"First thing to do, you two, is to relax."Brock reminded.

"Yeah...that too."Dawn said. "We hear you."

"Wallace did say playing with your pokemon was important."Ash reminded.

"Besides that it also helps with their appeal."Brock commented.

"Hey Ash, I've seen how much Buizel is getting stronger and I was wondering if you would like to join us in the Wallace Cup."Denise suggested.

"Well that would be nice but we always end up focusing showing our moves."Ash replied.

"Hey don't worry, with doing some practice on contest battles, how can you miss it?"Denise asked with a wink.

Ash smirked. "Then I'm in!"

Then Nurse Joy came up to the heroes.

"Excuse me, Ash."She said. "A message asking for you to call the Pokémon Center in Snowpoint City has just come by."

"Where's Snowpoint City?"Ash asked.

"It's right here."Nurse Joy answered and pointing at a part of the map that was covered in snow. "It's far in this northern city."

In Snowpoint City...

A girl was sitting on a couch watching TV in the local Pokémon Center

Then Nurse Joy walked up to her.

"It's a phone call from Ash of Pallet Town."She stated.

The girl stood up and revealed herself to be May.

"Great, thanks."May said with a grateful smile. "I'll go take it right now."
