Chapter 75: A Full Course Tag Battle!
Ash and his friends were waiting at Port Valor on the Valor Lakefront.
Dawn looked at Piplup.
"Now Piplup are you excited that we're going to meet the coordinator Ash and Brock used to travel around with?"Dawn asked.
"Piplup!"Piplup replied with a smile.
Eevee notice something flying towards her and her companions.
"Eevee!"Eevee called out. "Eevee!"
"What is it, Eevee?"Denise asked.
Just then a Beautifly flew across the lake towards the heroes.
"Beautifly."Beautifly greeted.
"Wow, a Beautifly."Ash said with a smile.
"Pika pi!"Pikachu remarked happily.
"It's so beautiful."Dawn commented as she took out her pokedex.
"Beautifly the Butterfly Pokémon and the evolved form of Silcoon."Dawn's Pokedex said. "When flowers are in bloom, Beautifly fly about gathering pollen."
Beautifly went on top of Ash's head.
"Wait, do I know this Beautifly?"Ash asked.
"You'll find out soon enough."Brock responded.
Then a ferry comes towards them with May waving from the bow.
"Yoohoo!"May called out. "Long time no see!"
When the ferry went to shore, May came out holding two bags.
"Wow, Ash, Pikachu and Brock, great to see you!"May admitted kindly.
"Thanks May, its great to see you too."Ash stated.
"Pika!"Pikachu agreed.
"That's a lot of luggage."Brock said.
"Oh this stuff, I brought presents."May answered.
She gives Ash a wooden Teddiursa and Brock a wooden Ursaring.
"Thanks, this is awesome."Ash remarked.
Pikachu smiled. "Pika!"
"Knowing what is for would be awesome."Brock admitted with a troubled look.
"Here you go, for Dawn and Denise, its nice to meet you both."May commented holding two small purple boxes.
Dawn and Denise took the small gifts.
"Wow."Dawn answered. "Thank you, May."
"That's very kind of you."Denise complemented.
The Twinleaf twins opened the boxes which revealed a Piplup and Turtwig necklaces inside.
"They're so adorable."Dawn giggled.
"Yeah."Denise agreed sweetly. "Its an honour to finally meet the Princess of Hoenn after all this time."
"Stop your making me blush."May chuckled. "Call me May, okay?"
"I guess we have to thank Wallace for seeing you again."Ash stated.
"Pika Pika."Pikachu replied.
"So are you all ready to compete in the Wallace Cup?"Brock asked.
"Yeah, I've been waiting to do this for such a long time and as soon as I heard it was going to be in Sinnoh, I came as fast as I could."May responded.
May then notice Eevee next to Denise's feet.
"Whoa, you got an Eevee?"May asked with a smile as she bend down.
"Yeah."Denise answered. "Eevee was my first pokemon I caught after getting my Turtwig."
May stroked Eevee's head making the Evolution Pokemon purr.
"She reminds so much of mine."May admitted.
May's sentence earned Denise's attention.
"Huh?"Denise said in confusion.
Afterwards...
The group were walking up in some stairs.
"So what's Max up to these days?"Ash asked.
"Oh yeah, Max is your little brother right, May?"Dawn said.
"Right, Max is doing great."May replied. "He is working hard taking care of dad's pokemon and its something he learned from Brock. Needless to say dad is proud as he can be."
"Thats nice to hear."Brock remarked.
"Of course, Max was always watching Brock super closely."Ash admitted.
"Interesting."Denise commented.
"That's amazing."Dawn chuckled. "So May when did you arrive at Sinnoh?"
"Three days ago."May answered. "There was something that I really wanted to do before the Wallace Cup started, so I first went to Snowpoint City."
"So what did you do?"Denise asked.
"I'll show you."May replied with a smirk and took out a pokeball. "Now Glaceon, on stage!"
Her pokeball opened and a Glaceon appeared.
"May, your Eevee evolved great!"Brock said.
Denise bend down and took out her pokedex.
"Glaceon the Fresh Snow Pokémon and the evolved form of Eevee."Denise's Pokedex said."Glaceon can freeze the fur on its body and make it stick out like sharp needles."
"So cute."Dawn giggled.
Eevee walked up to her ice type evolution.
"Eevee."Eevee greeted.
Glaceon responded with a soft smile.
"So Eevee evolves into a Glaceon?"Denise asked as she stood up.
"No."May chuckled. "Eevee has more than one evolution."
"Oh right."Denise answered and sweat dropped. "I forgot about that."
"You see there is an ice cave, where an ice crystal is which causes Eevee to evolve."May explained.
"And where your Eevee evolve?"Dawn assumed.
"Right."May responded. "Since I was coming to Sinnoh anyway, I thought it would be fun to return to the Johto Contests with the newly evolved pokemon."
"Oh yeah, how many Johto Ribbons do you have by now?"Ash asked.
"I've got three of them."May answered.
"Three?"Dawn asked. "Nice work."
"Thanks!"May replied with a small smile. "But as usual, Drew and Harley are as strong as ever and I can't seem to beat either of them."
"Sounds like you're working pretty hard."Ash stated.
"Can you show them to us?"Denise asked.
"Here! Ta-da!"May announced and showed her Johto ribbons.
"Real Johto Ribbons..."Dawn whispered.
"Really impressive."Denise complemented.
"Ash told me all about the two of you in your progress."May admitted.
Dawn and Denise looked at Ash with surprised looks.
"Yep, everything."Ash said.
"Pika Pika!"Pikachu chirped.
"She knows about how you lost in the first stage twice in a row and how Denise is making progress in her contests."Brock explained.
"Oh..."Dawn replied quietly.
"Chin up."May remarked. "Since I got to Johto, it's been one disaster after another for me."
"Wow, you too?"Dawn asked.
"So I wanted to compete in the Wallace Cup as a good way to get myself back on the Contest track."May stated. "Why don't we both make this as our comeback stage?"
Dawn nodded. "It's a deal."
Then Ash's stomach began rumbling.
May giggled. "Somethings never change."
"Guess I have been hungry for a while."Ash chuckled.
"Well to be honest since its lunch time, we are all hungry."Denise responded with a smile.
"I just happen to have made reservations at the perfect place."May explained. "Probably the most popular restaurant in Valor Lakefront."
A While Later...
The heroes arrived at the Seven Stars Restaurant.
"This is it?"Ash asked.
"Pika!"Pikachu whispered.
"Piplup!"Piplup giggled.
"Eevee!"Eevee gasped.
"The seven stars restaurant!"May said in amusement. "This is the hottest place to eat in the whole Sinnoh region."
"Wow May, I'm impressed."Dawn admitted.
"'Me too."Denise added.
"May always had a nose for finding a great place like this."Brock explained.
They entered the restaurant and are greeted by the Maitre d'.
"Welcome, ladies and gentlemen."the waiter greeted with a bow.
"Hi reservations for May?"May asked.
"Yes, of course, Miss May."the waiter replied. "You have a reservation for five, please, right this way."
He leads them to the next set of doors, but a young man bursts out of the room.
"Your leaving?"the waiter asked.
"I'm gonna go back and train some more, but I'm gonna eat here if it's the last thing I do!"the trainer stated.
"Then we'll be waiting to serve you at another time."the waiter responded.
"I won't forget this!"the trainer shouted angrily and ran off.
"What is that about?"Dawn asked.
"That young man lost his battle."the waiter answered. "So of course he wasn't accepted at our establishment."
"Battle?"Ash asked.
"Come with me and I'll explain."the waiter responded.
The Maitre d' then leads them through the doors to a battlefield.
"It's a battlefield!"Ash said.
"I thought it was a restaurant."Denise commented.
"You see besides being just a wealthy businessman, the owner of the seven stars restaurant is a battle fan as well."the waiter explained. "As a result, only for those who battle him and his fiancee and emerge victoriously are allowed to dine here."
The five heroes were amazed hearing that.
"That means if we lose..."Brock started.
"You'll be ending up leaving in empty stomachs just like the last gentleman did."the waiter answered.
"That's ruff."Dawn admitted.
"Nah, I think it's great."May answered with a smile.
"If you say so."Ash groaned and his tummy rumbled more. "Man I'm starving."
"Well your not the only Ash."Denise reminded while blushing.
The heroes then heard the other doors opening and saw an old couple coming out.
"Those customers were successful in their battle and just completed a full course meal."the waiter explained.
"Yeah!"Ash cheered.
"Awesome!"Denise laughed.
"When those doors open, I smell the yummiest aroma ever!"May remarked.
"Then, we'll just have to win and that's that!"Dawn stated with a smirk.
The future married couple walked to the five trainers.
"You must be our next customers, then."the woman said.
"Welcome to the seven stars restaurant."the man admitted. "My name is Roman, the owner of this restaurant who has pride on this cuisine."
"And my name is Kylie."the woman answered. "I've spared no expense in providing in the finest of all trainers!"
"So shall we proceed two at a time in a Tag Battle, then?"the waiter asked.
"Tag Battle?"Ash said with a smile. "Cool!"
"So you don't mind if I be your partner, Ash?"Denise asked with a warm smile.
Ash smirked. "Of course not."
Dawn clapped her hands together as she looked at May.
"May, can I be on your team?"She asked.
"Sure and then we can eat!"May agreed.
It was time for Ash and Denise to have their battle against Roman and Kylie.
"Pikachu get in there."Ash ordered.
"Pika!"Pikachu answered with a smirk.
The Mouse Pokemon went into the battlefield.
"Eevee, same with you."Denise ordered.
Eevee smiled. "Eevee!"
The Evolution Pokemon went into the battlefield to join Pikachu.
"Ooh nice pokemon."Roman said.
"Now is our turn."Kylie admitted holding a pokeball.
"Alright Snorlax!"Roman stated.
"You come out too, Munchlax!"Kylie remarked.
A Snorlax and Muchlax appeared into the battlefield.
"Wow Munchlax."May said with a smile.
"Evolution pairs are popular."Dawn commented as she took out her pokedex.
"Munchlax the Big Eater Pokémon."Dawn's Pokedex said. "It gobbles up its own body weight in food each day and it swallows its food without almost any chewing."
The Pokedex scans Snorlax.
"Snorlax the Sleeping Pokémon and the evolved form of Munchlax."Dawn's Pokedex said. "It can eat 400 pounds of food before feeling full."
"I would suggest in order to expertise our battle that we launch our moves at the same time."Roman explained.
Ash and Denise looked each other.
"They see so confident Ash."Denise admitted.
"Yeah."Ash agreed and looked at Roman. "Sounds like fun, we're in!"
"I understand so battle begin!"the butler announced.
"Snorlax use Mega Punch!"Roman ordered.
"Pikachu use Volt Tackle!"Ash ordered.
"Munchlax, Giga Impact go!"Kylie ordered.
"Eevee use Water Gun!"Denise ordered.
Pikachu and Eevee used their attacks causing Snorlax and Munchlax to both get knocked out.
"So Snorlax and Munchlax are unable to battle!"the butler announced. "The customers win!"
"What?!"Roman said in shock.
"No!"Kylie cried. "Not my Munchlax!"
Pikachu and Eevee smiled at each other in victory.
"Just one hit?"Ash said in surprise.
"Well that was unexpected."Denise responded.
"I guess they weren't strong as they thought they were."Brock suggested.
May looked at Dawn.
"Dawn, let's make sure we win with one hit too."She said.
Dawn nodded. "Right."
It was now May and Dawn's turn to battle Roman and Kylie.
"Dawn, May, don't be too confident."Ash warned.
"Don't worry, we know."Dawn answered.
"Of course, the two winners may proceed into the restaurant and place their orders."Roman stated.
"Nah, it's all or none of us."Ash replied with a smile.
"Pika!"Pikachu agreed.
"That's right."Denise said kindly and thought. "Though dinner for two would've been nice..."
"Eevee."Eevee giggled.
"My aren't they such darlings."Kylie chuckled.
"This won't be so easy."Roman commented and took out a pokeball. "Alright let's go, Girafarig."
"Drifloon, you too!"Kylie remarked.
Girafarig and Drifloon appeared into the battlefield.
"Your Drifloon is the cutest thing!"May complemented.
"Well, I am honoured of your kind words."Kylie admitted.
"A psychic and a ghost type, those two have an interesting pair."Brock stated.
Dawn looked at Piplup.
"You ready, Piplup?"She asked.
"Plup!"Piplup agreed and went into the battlefield.
"And as for me I am going with Blaziken!"May said happily.
Her pokeball opened and Blaziken appeared in the battlefield.
"Blaziken!"
"Its so big."Denise commented and took out her pokedex.
"Blaziken the Blaze Pokémon and the evolved form of Combusken."Denise's Pokedex said. "Flames surround to come out of its wrists, making its punches extremely damaging and dangerous."
"Man, it has a long time."Ash admitted.
Pikachu nodded. "Pikachu!"
"It looks stronger too."Brock added.
"A fire and water type duo, same rules apply."Roman reminded.
"That's fine with us."May answered.
Just as the judge was about to start the battle there was a loud crash and the waiter runs in from the restaurant.
"Roman!"the waiter shouted. "All piece of food has been stolen!"
"Our food?!"Ash said in disbelief.
"This must be a nightmare!"Denise retorted with a horrified look.
"Nobody steals my food and gets away with it!"May shouted with her eyes glowing red and was on fire.
"May has turned into a fire type."Dawn said quietly.
"Piplup."Piplup agreed.
"One thing that'll drive May over the edge is someone swiping her food."Brock admitted.
"What happened to our princess?"Dawn cried.
"Piplup."Piplup said sadly.
The heroes went where the incident happened and saw the whole dining area looked like a bomb-site.
"Whoa..."Ash said.
"What a mess."Brock complemented.
Denise sighed sadly. "We were so looking forward for a wonderful meal."
"Pika..."Pikachu responded.
"Piplup!"Piplup gasped.
"Eevee!"Eevee replied softly.
"Oh...I'm so sorry, Mr Roman."the chef apologised. "But our orders, our soup and our main courses and even our dessert is gone, stolen while under my expertly trained eyes and nose."
"A tragedy! How could this have happen!?"Roman demanded dropping on his knees. "That food was for the gourmet enjoyed for our victorious customers?!"
"Well, you got that right and I'm going to get our lunch back!"May shouted in anger.
She threw out a pokeball and Munchlax came out.
Pikachu ran over to Munchlax to greet him and he greeted back.
"Goodness, you have a Munchlax too?"Kylie asked in amazement.
"Will you call out your Munchlax too?"May suggested.
"Okay, come on out my little Munchlie!"Kylie stated.
Her pokeball opened and her Munchlax came out.
"So May what are you going to do?"Ash asked.
"Just watch, Ash."May replied and looked at her Munchlax. "Now Munchlax, I know you remember that delicious smell, so I want you to go and follow it."
"That's a wonderful idea."Kylie admitted and looked at her Munchlax. "Alright Munchie dear, you go along and help find that scent too."
Both Munchlax dash about the restaurant to pick up the scent of the food and May's then runs off happily.
Kylie's was still running back and forth across the room.
"Hey Kylie, what's wrong with your Munchlax?"Dawn asked.
Kylie sighed. "I guess May's Munchlax's sense of smell is just better."
"For sense of stuffing its face."Brock joked.
"Beg your pardon?!"May demanded while blushing.
Munchlax then runs off outside and the group gives chase.
"You found it!"May said proudly.
"Well done, Munchlax."Denise admitted.
"Awesome."Dawn stated.
"What a Munchlax, my compliments to you as a trainer."Kylie remarked.
"Thanks Kylie."May responded. "Now you just leave everything to us, we'll have our lunch back just in time for lunch!"
Munchlax lead the group to Team Rocket, who were stuffing their faces with the food they stolen.
"Not them again!"May said angrily.
"Team Rocket!"Ash snapped.
"And chubby too."Dawn added.
Team Rocket quickly finished the food before the heroes could react.
"You monsters!"Denise growled.
"Thanks to you, we weren't truly been able to relax and enjoy our meal!"Jessie said in annoyance and placed lipstick on her lips.
"All I can say is, I hope you have an end asset, twerps!"James muttered.
"You crooks never change!"May shouted. "Haven't you clowns learned anything at all, huh!?"
Team Rocket began doing their motto.
"Is that the upside twerp I hear?"
"Your expiration date has passed, my dear."
"On the wind!"
"Past the stars!"
"In your ear!"
"Bringing twerp related chaos at a breakneck pace!"
"Dashing twerp team's hope, putting fear in its place!"
"A rose by any other name is just as sweet!"
"When everything's worse, our work is complete!"
"Jessie!"
"And James!"
"Meowth now that's a name!"
"Putting the geeky do gooders in their place!"
"We're Team Rocket!"
"And we're in your face!"
"Wobbuffet!"
"Maybe they really have changed."May suggested.
"This is no time to be impressed, May."Dawn reminded.
"Hey, look over there!"Brock admitted.
The heroes turned to see the refrigerator behind Team Rocket.
"A refrigerator?"Ash asked.
"That must be where our surviving food is stored!"Denise admitted bitterly.
Team Rocket quickly went in front of the fridge.
"Even twerps worry about perishable produce, duh."Jessie teased.
Seviper and Carnivine went in front of their team mates.
"Why you crooked creeps!"May growled in rage.
"Forgot what it feels like to be hungry huh?!"Ash scoffed.
"Ash, Denise, let's get em."Brock said holding a pokeball.
"With pleasure!"Denise responded with a glare.
"Hold on, what about our tag battle?"Dawn asked.
"Come on, its our turn!"May remarked.
"Well go for it!"Ash encouraged.
"Yeah, we watch and then we eat."Brock admitted.
"This should be fun."Denise chuckled.
"Glaceon, on stage!"May ordered.
Her pokeball opened and Glaceon came out.
"Nice choice!"Dawn commented and threw out a pokeball. "Buneary!"
Buneary appeared next to Glaceon.
"Seviper, Poison Tail!"Jessie ordered.
"Carnivine, Bullet Seed!"James ordered.
Seviper and Carnivine fired their attacks.
"Ice Beam, both of you!"May and Dawn ordered in unison.
Seviper and Carnivine got countered with a double Ice Beam, pushing them back into Team Rocket and freezing them all.
"Now Glaceon use Iron Tail!"May ordered.
Glaceon went forward and her tail began to glow to send Team Rocket into the air.
"Buneary use Bounce, let's go!"Dawn ordered.
Buneary used Bounce to send Team Rocket blasting off.
"Chilling after a good meal!"Meowth remarked.
"I like being in the rocks!"James admitted.
"After my Wallace Cup win, I'll rock them!"Jessie said with a frown.
"Wobbuffet."Wobbuffet responded.
"BLASTING OFF ON ICE!"Team Rocket screamed and disappeared in the sky.
"Yeah, we did it!"Ash commented.
Buneary starts fawning over Pikachu causing Eevee to giggle.
"Oh you like Pikachu?"May asked.
"Buneary is a big fan."Dawn answered.
"You two were great."Brock admitted.
"You should those creeps the hard way."Denise chuckled.
"Thanks, Dennie."Dawn replied and looked at May. "No one messes with our lunch."
May laughed. "It's a great inspiration, isn't it?"
Back at the Restaurant...
Roman and Kylie thanked the heroes.
"Thank you for getting all our food back."Roman remarked. "Every one of us is truly in your debt!"
"Well May and Dawn did all the job."Ash responded.
"Pika pika!"Pikachu agreed.
"Don't forget the pokemon."Dawn reminded.
"Hey everyone deserves all the credit."May commented.
"Roman and I have talked it over and we made a decision."Kylie said. "As our way of saying thanks, we'd like you to have your meal without a battle."
Ash and Denise high fived each other while May and Dawn jumped happily while holding hands together.
"Alright! Alright!"May and Dawn cheered. "Alright!"
"Thanks for holding out stomach."Ash said while rubbing his tummy.
"Things always taste better when it's waited and we waited."Brock complemented.
"I guess now we just have sit down and have our food served."Denise said proudly.
"Then I'll begin preparation immediately."the chef stated. "It shouldn't be much longer, more or less."
"What more time?!"Ash said in shock.
"We're sorry, but our cuisine must be cooked fresh."Roman admitted.
"There's only one thing left to do."Dawn stated.
"Let's have that Tag battle now!"May suggested.
"Now?"Roman asked with a surprised look. "You mean it?"
"Of course we do!"May and Dawn replied in unison.
The two girls went into the battlefield to have their battle against Kylie and Roman with Girafarig and Drifloon face off against Piplup and Blaziken.
"We'll use the same methods!"Roman reminded. "Same rules!"
"Right!"Dawn and May replied in agreement.
"It will probably end with one hit like ours."Ash commented.
"We'll see."Denise answered simply.
"Alright then battle begin!"the butler announced.
"Girafarig use Bite!"Roman ordered.
"Drifloon, you use Constrict!"Kylie ordered.
"Quick Blaziken, Blaze Kick!"May ordered.
"Piplup, Bubblebeam, let's go!"Dawn ordered.
Blaziken used Blaze Kick and Piplup used Bubble Beam.
Drifloon spun to bat away the Bubble Beam and grabbed Piplup with Constrict while Girafarig dodges Blaze Kick before hitting the fire type with Bite.
"Blaziken!"May panicked.
"Hurry May, you've got to react fast!"Brock warned.
Blaziken took Girafarig's attack but wasn't harmed in the process.
"Those attacks really showed off Girafarig's and Drifloon's appearances, alright."Brock commemted.
"Dawn, May, win it!"Ash called out.
"Don't give up!"Denise protested.
"Pika!"Pikachu said.
"Eevee!"Eevee shouted.
"Pretty good moves, don't you think?"Roman asked.
"Escaping my darling Drifloon's Constrict is tricky!"Kylie giggled.
"We'll see, Piplup use Whirlpool!"Dawn ordered with a smirk.
Both Drifloon and Girafarig were caught in the Whirlpool and pushed up towards the ceiling.
"Girafarig!"Roman said.
"Drifloon, darling."Kylie panicked.
"Now Dawn, I want you to have Piplup use Bubble Beam one more time."May stated.
"Huh?"Dawn asked in confusion.
"I have the perfect combination to finish this off."May assured.
"Okay."Dawn answered and looked at Piplup. "Piplup, Bubble Beam, go!"
Piplup fired Bubble Beam towards Girafarig and Drifloon.
"Now Blaziken jump and use Fire Spin!"May ordered.
Blaziken to jump above them to use Fire Spin.
The two attacks meet with Girafarig and Drifloon in the middle, creating the fusion of fire and water and sending out blue and orange sparks.
"Wow, incredible fusion!"Denise said in amazement.
"Eevee..."Eevee whispered happily and her eyes sparkled.
The force of the attacks causes a small explosion and Blaziken lands behind Piplup.
When the smoke cleared, both Girafarig and Drifloon were unable to battle.
"Girafarig!"Roman panicked.
"Oh no, Drifloon!"Kylie cried.
"Girafarig and Drifloon are unable to battle!"the butler announced. "Which means the customers have won!"
"We did it!"May laughed.
"Give me a high five!"Dawn said.
May and Dawn celebrate with high fives and Blaziken stands up with Piplup standing on its arm.
"You know, seeing the Fusion of Fire and Water again was awesome!"Ash remarked.
"It was even more polished than the last time."Brock agreed.
Roman and Kylie checked on Girafarig and Drifloon.
"That was a wonderful battle."Roman stated.
"It was an intense competition that we rarely experienced!"Kylie chuckled.
Then the Maitre d' opened the entrance where the food was ready.
"Ladies and gentlemen, your lunch has just this moment have been completed."the waiter announced. "Please, step this way."
"Alright!"Dawn, May and Denise giggled.
Piplup and Eevee cheered with happy looks.
"Yeah!"Ash laughed. "I can't wait!"
"Pika Pika!"Pikachu remarked.
Later that Night...
The heroes were standing on a balcony overlooking Lake Valor.
"That's Lake Valor."Dawn said.
"The view is incredible..."Denise sighed.
"Hey Ash, you still have this?"May asked holding up a half of the Terracotta Ribbon.
"Yep, I sure do."Ash responded and held up the other part of the ribbon.
The two put their ribbons together and they fitted perfectly.
"Hold on, you both competed?"Dawn asked in surprise.
"It was way back in Terracotta Town."May replied. "We had a tie there in the Contest ever since I went out ahead by myself, it's been my good luck charm and reminds me of how much I learned from Ash in our journey."
"I see..."Denise said quietly.
"After all, when we first met May, she was still starting at Square One."Brock explained.
Dawn and Denise took out their mother's first ribbons.
"Me and Dennie kept our mum's ribbons as a good luck charms as well."Dawn admitted. "You know, ribbons are loaded to be filled with experiences and memories, they always gives us strength."
"The same for me, this ribbon has helped me through all the way in the Johto region."May commented. "Dawn, Denise, just think, I'll be able to see you both performing before I know it."
