"So the kids are off with Uncle John and Aunt Taya," AJ says, dropping down next to Mike in bed and sighing as he hugs her close. "Whatever will we do with the rest of our night?"
He smirks into her hair and shrugs. "I'm not sure, but better make the most of it while we can, it's going to be weird being so close to home for such a consecutive amount of time but being so busy with Wrestlemania promotions and everything to barely see you and the kids at all."
She pouts and leans up to kiss him. "Yeah, that's going to kind of suck." She huffs. "I want to go out and do something with my handsome husband while I can."
Mike hums. "Sure, where is he?"
She rolls her eyes at him and sits up, tugging him to follow her. "Come on. I have an idea."
"I'm intrigued," Mike says, scooting off of the bed and allowing her to lead him out of the bedroom. "Do we need to change clothes?"
"Nah, you look fine as is," she says.
Mike glances out of the window as they go through the house and frowns at how hard it's still raining outside, exhaling slowly. She glances over at him and he smiles, squeezing her hand as she leads him downstairs. "Any hints?"
"Nope," she singsongs, tugging a little harder as he follows her through the dimly lit rooms. "Here," she finally says, settling down on the windowseat that she sometimes reads in front of.
He joins her, chuckling as she tucks in close to him. "So this is what we're doing, huh?"
She pinches him lightly before digging around in the cushions and finding a package of cookies. "Here, my secret stash," she teases him. "I like you, so I'll even share."
He squints down at the package. "Wow, fudge dipped. I feel very honored."
She settles back in his arms and hums. "As you should," she chuckles.
"I think we need milk too, though," he suggests. "Might get a little dry otherwise."
AJ blinks a few times, then puts the cookies aside. "I like the way you think," she says, handing the cookies to him before dashing off to the kitchen.
He smiles and peers out at the rain pouring down the glass as he chews on a cookie, waiting for AJ's triumphant return. Hosting Wrestlemania may not be the dream role he'd wanted this year, but still. In this moment, he can't complain about much of anything.
