Chapter 82: A Crasher Course in Power!
Outside of the Pokemon Center...
The heroes watched as Buizel was training hard, eager to make up for only managing a draw against Maylene's Lucario.
"Buizel is sure working hard."Ash complemented.
Buizel leaped up to do a few kicks before landing back on the ground which amazed his friends.
"Wow Buizel, seems different than before."Dawn admitted with a smile.
"Your right."Ash agreed. "Buizel has a new level of focus for our next gym battle."
"Huh?"Dawn said in confusion.
"Don't you remember, Buizel's battle against Lucario was a draw back at Veilstone Gym."Denise reminded. "So that's why Buizel wants to win for sure."
"Alright!"Ash remarked and looked at his pokemon. "Let's go out and give it our best shot!"
Pikachu, Chimchar, Gligar, Turtwig and Staravia cheered in agreement.
Then Ash and Denise were doing a training match with Pikachu against Grotle.
"Grotle use Razor Leaf!"Denise ordered.
Grotle fired Razor Leaf at Pikachu.
"Iron Tail!"Ash ordered.
Pikachu uses Iron Tail to break the leaves away from him.
"Whoa, nice movement."Denise admitted.
"Now use Thunderbolt!"Ash ordered.
Pikachu fired Thunderbolt towards Grotle.
"Dodge it, Grotle!"Denise ordered.
Grotle dodged the electric attack and it accidentally hits Buizel.
"Hey Buizel, are you okay?"Denise asked.
"Grotle?"Grotle said.
Buizel glared angrily at Pikachu.
"Sorry about that."Ash apologised. "It wasn't on purpose."
"Pikachu."Pikachu agreed softly.
Buizel goes up to Pikachu and tried to pick a fight with him but Grotle intervenes and tried to break up the fight.
Grotle tried too hard and makes Buizel fall on its back.
Buizel, now very angry with both Pikachu and Grotle, uses Sonic Boom.
"Buizel!"Ash called out.
Ash goes in front of Pikachu and Grotle, only for him to get hit by Buizel's Sonic Boom.
"Oh no."Brock mumbled.
"Ash!"Denise shouted in shock.
She went up to Ash and bend down.
"Are you okay?"Dawn asked with a hint of concern.
"That was great, Buizel."Ash stated. "Make sure you focus just like that."
Buizel scolded and looked away.
"Pikachu upset Buizel and that just makes things difficult for the rest of the pokemon."Dawn said.
"I guess that shows how serious Buizel is about battling."Brock replied. "But it is the teamwork between the others that got me worried."
"Hopefully Buizel will learn how to get along with the other pokemon."Denise commented.
"I'm sure he will, Dennie."Ash assured.
"Good morning!"
The four heroes and their pokemon turned around seeing Crasher Wake behind them.
"That's good your awake now!"Crasher Wake laughed.
"Morning, Crasher Wake."Ash responded.
"Please, don't scare me like that."Dawn said with a nervous smile.
"Well since party boy and his girlfriend had a great time last night, I've thought I come to them."Crasher Wake remarked.
Brock, Ash and Dawn sweat dropped at his response while Denise blushed shyly being called Ash's girlfriend.
"So Denise are you and Ash all set?"Crasher Wake asked.
"Yep."Denise answered confidently. "My team is focused and ready to go."
"Same with mine."Ash stated and looked at his pokemon. "Right, you guys?"
The Pallet Town trainer and his other pokemon notice Buizel wasn't listening.
"You see the truth is Buizel got upset with Pikachu and ended up turning into a fight."Dawn admitted.
Crasher Wake walked up to Buizel.
"Well, I like that face."Crasher Wake complemented. "You like to battle do you?"
Buizel quietly looked at Crasher Wake as the four heroes looked on.
"Little buddy, soon your going to battle a good friend of mine."Crasher Wake stated and took out a pokeball. "Come out, Floatzel!"
His pokeball opened and a Floatzel appeared in front of Buizel.
"Floatzel, check it out."Ash said as he took out his pokedex.
"Floatzel the Sea Weasel Pokémon and the evolved form of Buizel."Ash's Pokedex said. "It's flotation sac developed as an aid in chasing aquatic prey. Floatzel can also carry people on its back."
Buizel gritted his teeth while staring at his evolved form before calling out to Ash.
"Okay Buizel, I'm right with you."Ash responded.
"That's the kind of attitude I like."Crasher Wake answered and patted Ash'a back. "We will continue this party right after battling Denise."
The Pastoria Gym Leader laughed while Denise sweat dropped nervously.
At the Pastoria Gym...
It was time for Denise's battle against Crasher Wake.
"Wow, this is such a beautiful water type gym."Dawn commented.
"And in a water type, the trick is to successfully navigate your way through all those islands situated in the middle."Brock explained.
"Alright, the Pastoria Gym battle is about to begin!"the referee announced. "In the blue corner, it's Denise from Twinleaf Town and the red corner, the Gym Leader of the Pastoria Gym, Crasher Wake!"
Crasher Wake took off his robe.
"Okay!"Crasher Wake replied. "Crasher Wake is in the house!"
"You will each have the use of three pokemon and the battle will be over when one of you loses all three of them!"the referre stated. "In the addition, only the challenger will be allowed to substitute pokemon!"
"As the Leader of the Pastoria Gym, it is my privilege and my responsibility to see what you and your pokemon have got!"Crasher Wake remarked. "Gyarados on the water!"
The pokeball opened causing Gyarados to go into the water and roar at Denise.
"Whoa, Gyarados."Denise responded and took out a pokeball. "Come on out, Luxio."
Her pokeball opened and Luxio came out.
"Luxio!"
Luxio landed and went to the platform.
"Luxio, huh?"Crasher Wake said. "Then I guess we're ready! Good, now give us everything you got!"
"With pleasure."Denise replied with a smile.
"Battle begin!"the referee stated.
"Luxio use Spark!"Denise ordered.
Luxio charged up and fired electricity at Gyarados.
"Bullseye!"Ash chuckled.
"Luxio is doing great."Dawn admitted.
When Luxio finished using Spark on Gyarados, the Atrocious Pokemon didn't show any damage which surprised Denise and Luxio.
"Huh?!"Denise questioned in disbelief.
"Spark didn't do anything?"Ash responded.
"But how?"Dawn asked.
"Gyarados must have incredible strength to tolerate Luxio's Spark like that."Brock suggested.
"Your strategy to take on my water type with an electric type pokemon is correct."Crasher Wake stated. "Of course, my Gyarados will take that line down, let's go!"
Gyarados dived into the water and swam towards the platform where Luxio was.
"Now use Dragon Rage!"Crasher Wake ordered
Gyarados came out and fired Dragon Rage at Luxio.
"Luxio, jump out of the way!"Denise ordered.
Luxio dodged Gyarados Dragon Rage and leapt up.
"Use Bite to not let him get away!"Crasher Wake ordered.
"Use Wild Charge!"Denise ordered.
Luxio charged up and hit Gyarados on the head causing an explosion in the process.
"Awesome!"Denise remarked.
"But that Wild Charge was in mid air!"Crasher Wake complemented.
When the smoke cleared, it showed Gyarados fainted and collapsed on a platform.
"Gyarados is unable to battle!"the referee announced. "Luxio is the winner!"
"Amazing job, Luxio."Denise commented kindly.
Luxio smiled. "Luxio."
"Alright!"Ash cheered.
"What a move."Dawn complemented. "Luxio was great."
Crasher Wake returned Gyarados back in his pokeball.
"Gyarados thanks, you did your best."Crasher Wake assured and looked at Luxio. "As for you, the way you used your speed to take down Gyarados with that Wild Charge was incredible!"
"Thank you, Wake."Denise replied.
"Luxio."Luxio said with a smirk.
"Time for our next battle!"Crasher Wake stated. "Quagsire into the water!"
His pokeball opened and Quagsire came out.
"Quagsire!"
"So his second choice is Quagsire."Dawn admitted and took out her pokedex.
"Quagsire the Water Fish Pokemon and the evolved form of Wooper."Dawn's Pokedex said. "Known as quite dim-witted, it doesn't care when it crashes its head against rocks or the bottoms of boats."
Luxio winced a little at the pain he felt on his body.
"Luxio, you look a bit exhausted."Denise stated and took out her pokeball. "Take a rest for a while."
Denise returned Luxio back in his pokeball.
"Okay!"Denise replied and threw out a pokeball. "Grotle, your up!"
Her pokeball opened and Grotle appeared.
"Grotle!"
Grotle landed on the platform.
"Excellent strategy, using a grass type against my Quagsire."Crasher Wake responded. "After you!"
"Grotle use Razor Leaf!"Denise ordered.
Grotle sends razor leaves towards Quagsire, but the water ground type pokemon dodges and gets a small scratch.
"Just a small scratch!"Dawn said.
"Quagsire into the pool!"Crasher Wake ordered.
"Of course, in the water they go faster."Denise said softly. "Grotle jump to the other platforms to confuse Quagsire!"
Grotle carefully jumped to the other platforms in order not to fall into the water.
"Smart idea, but that won't do any good against my Quagsire."Crasher Wake admitted. "Sludge Bomb, now!"
Quagsire fired Sludge Bomb from underwater and sends Grotle flying backwards.
"Grotle, are you okay?"Denise asked.
"Grotle!"Grotle replied and quickly stood up.
"How did they do that?"Denise questioned in concern.
"Even underwater Quagsire's excellent hearing allows it to know just where Grotle is every second."Crasher Wake explained. "I'm afraid there is no place to hide in my gym! Quagsire, Ice Beam!"
Quagsire jumped up and used Ice Beam.
"Oh no!"Denise shouted in shock.
"A direct hit!"Ash said.
"And underwater!"Brock added.
"Now Sludge Bomb!"Crasher Wake ordered.
Quagsire fired Sludge Bomb at Grotle.
"Grotle, return!"Denise stated.
Grotle returned back into his pokeball before he could get more damage from Quagsire.
"That was excellent decision."Crasher Wake commented.
Quagsire landed back on the platform it was on.
Dawn sighed. "That Quagsire can use Ice Beam."
"Very clever."Brock admitted. "Wake anticipated if the challenger would use a grass type so he would use a move to counter the strategy. Of course, this will put pressure on Denise."
"Oh man."Ash mumbled.
"Let's do it!"Denise answered and took out a pokeball. "Hoothoot your up next!"
Her pokeball opened and Hoothoot appeared.
"Hoothoot!"
"A flying type?"Crasher Wake asked. "An interesting choice."
"Hoothoot, Supersonic!"Denise ordered.
Hoothoot flew up and fired Supersonic at Quagsire, but the attack did nothing at it.
Denise paled. "How did?!"
"That's no good at all!"Crasher Wake remarked. "Use Ice Beam!"
Quagsire fired Ice Beam at Hoothoot.
"Hoothoot, Reflect to counter it!"Denise ordered.
Hoothoot makes a reflect screen to make the ice beam bounce back at Quagsire.
"What is this?!"Crasher Wake demanded.
Quagsire got hit by it's Ice Beam and fainted on the platform.
"Quagsire is unable to battle!"the referee announced. "Hoothoot is the winner!"
"Hoothoot, well done!"Denise replied.
"Hoothoot."Hoothoot answered.
"That was fantastic!"Dawn chuckled.
"Yeah that was clever move."Brock complemented.
"Now Wake is only left with Floatzel."Ash stated.
Crasher Wake returned Quagsire in it's pokeball.
"Thanks Quagsire, take a good rest."Crasher Wake suggested and looked at Denise. "Denise, your giving me an enjoyable battle. The speed and combination are at first ring that deserves respect. Now for my final pokemon! Floatzel, on the water!"
He threw the pokeball and Floatzel appeared on the platform.
Hoothoot narrowed his eyes at Floatzel.
"You can do it, Hoothoot!"Dawn encouraged.
"Hoothoot use Aerial Ace!"Denise ordered
Hoothoot flew towards Floatzel in quick speed.
"Bounce him back!"Crasher Wake ordered.
Floatzel inflates its sac and sends Hoothoot backward, surprising the heroes and their pokemon.
"What is going on?"Ash asked.
"Oh my gosh, Floatzel's defence is tough."Denise complemented.
"I'll tell you, Floatzel's flotation sack can make it big enough for a person to ride!"Crasher Wake laughed. "Even super moves like Giga Impact won't have any effect! Powerful stuff, wouldn't you agree?"
"Let's try this, Supersonic!"Denise ordered.
Hoothoot sends a sound wave at Floatzel, but the water type pokemon blocked it by merely punching it.
"Floatzel is so strong!"Dawn admitted.
"Now we will have a turn!"Crasher Wake said. "Use Razor Wind!"
Floatzel uses Razor Wind and Hoothoot was thrown into the water.
"Hoothoot!"Denise shouted.
"That was a double razor wind!"Ash responded.
"This is getting pretty tough for Hoothoot."Brock stated.
Hoothoot returned back into the platform.
"Use Silver Wind!"Denise ordered.
Hoothoot send powdery scales blown by his wings at Floatzel and the Sea Weasel Pokemon ends up into the air.
"Great!"Denise answered. "Now use Aerial Ace at the back!"
Hoothoot flew towards Floatzel in quick speed.
"Don't think this is the end!"Crasher Wake reminded. "Use Ice Fang!"
Denise and Hoothoot paled hearing this.
Floatzel uses ice fang at Hoothoot and the flying type pokemon fainted when he landed on the platform.
"Hoothoot is unable to battle!"the referee announced. "Floatzel is the winner!"
"Poor Hoothoot."Dawn said sadly.
Denise returned Hoothoot into his pokeball.
"Good try, Hoothoot."Denise assured with a small smile. "Take a long rest."
She took out another pokeball.
"Now Luxio, your up next!"Denise stated.
Her pokeball opened and Luxio came out.
"Luxio!"
Luxio landed on the platform once again.
"Impressive choice to bring out your electric type for this round."Crasher Wake said. "But this isn't going to make a difference! Floatzel, Razor Wind!"
Floatzel fired Razor Wind toward Luxio.
"Luxio, jump out the way!"Denise ordered.
Luxio quickly jumped to the other platform, dodging Floatzel's attack.
"Use Whirlpool!"Crasher Wake ordered.
Floatzel threw a whirlpool at Luxio.
"Spark!"Denise ordered.
Luxio fired Spark at the Whirlpool and they combined with each other.
"Use Wild Charge!"Denise ordered.
"Razor Wind!"Crasher Wake ordered.
Luxio ran forward filled with electricity while Floatzel threw Razor Wind at the electric type pokemon.
Luxio's attack stops from Floatzel's Razor Wind, sending him flying in the air.
"Use Ice Fang!"Crasher Wake ordered.
"Luxio use Ice Fang too!"Denise ordered.
Floatzel and Luxio both attacked with Ice Fang and the two pokemon landed back at the platform when their ice attacks combined with each other.
Denise gritted her teeth in frustration.
"You see Denise, my Floatzel is no ordinary water type pokemon."Crasher Wake admitted. "It's the strongest water pokemon!"
"Even if that's true, I am still not giving up!"Denise answered firmly. "I'll leave here with a fourth badge!"
"We'll see about that."Crasher Wake stated. "Floatzel, use Razor Wind!"
Floatzel send Razor Wind toward Luxio.
"Into the water, Luxio!"Denise ordered.
Luxio jumped into the water, avoiding Floatzel's attack.
"What is Denise doing?"Ash wondered.
"Bulk up, Floatzel!"Crasher Wake ordered.
Floatzel uses Bulk Up and swam after Luxio.
Luxio continued to swim away but Floatzel was gaining up on him.
"Hang in there a bit more, Luxio!"Denise instructed.
"Use Whirlpool!"Crasher Wake ordered.
Floatzel uses Whirlpool causing Luxio to get trapped in it as he ended up with it.
"Use Night Slash!"Denise ordered.
Luxio makes his claw glow black which made the whirlpool split and break away, which stunned Crasher Wake and Floatzel.
"What the-"Crasher Wake started.
"Now it's our chance!"Denise remarked. "Wild Charge!"
Luxio charged up and hits Floatzel in the stomach.
"Floatzel!"Crasher Wake shouted.
Floatzel dropped on the platform and fainted.
"Floatzel is unable to battle!"the referee announced. "Luxio is the winner! Which means the victory goes to Denise from Twinleaf Town!"
"Oh my gosh!"Denise chuckled. "We won!"
Luxio jumped onto Denise and licked her face in happiness.
"Hey Luxio, careful!"Denise giggled. "Your all wet!"
Brock, Ash, Dawn and their pokemon cheered at Denise's victory.
"Alright Denise, way da go!"Ash laughed.
"They won!"Dawn remarked happily.
"They were amazing despite the damage."Brock complemented with a smile.
Crasher Wake returned Floatzel into it's pokeball.
"As always great job, Floatzel."Crasher Wake replied proudly. "Seeing Luxio bravely going into the water was really something to see. I'm impressed."
Afterwards...
Crasher Wake handed Denise the Fen Badge.
"It seems the undertow pulled me under...but I had a great time battling with you, Denise."Crasher Wake stated. "You've earned the Fen Badge for you amazing victory, congratulations."
"Thank you, Wake."Denise answered and took the Fen Badge. "Yes! We just earned the Fen Badge!"
Grotle, Hoothoot and Luxio cheered in victory.
