Chapter 84: Hungry for the Good Life!

After Ash won his fourth badge from defeating Crasher Wake, the four heroes were now walking down in Route 212.

"I can't wait for our next gym badge at Hearthome City."Ash commented.

"Pika pika!"Pikachu agreed excitedly.

Suddenly a thunder shock startled the heroes and they saw dark clouds in the sky.

"I guess that's it for nice weather for a while."Dawn admitted.

"Piplup."Piplup said quietly.

"Looks like thunderstorms."Brock stated.

"Well, we better find some shelter until the storm is gone."Denise suggested.

"Kirlia."Kirlia said in fright and held Denise's hand.

There was rustling coming from a bush causing the heroes to look at it.

A Cleffa popped out of a bush.

"Cleffa!"Cleffa giggled. "Cleffa!"

"It's a Cleffa."Ash said.

"Wow."Dawn replied and checked Cleffa on her Pokedex.

"Cleffa the Star Shape Pokemon."Dawn's Pokedex said. "It has the silhouette of a star in the night sky and some believe that Cleffa ride on shooting stars."

Cleffa comes out of the bush.

"It also sounds romantic if you ask me."Dawn complemented.

"Cleffa?"

A young woman called Monica comes from behind a tree and walked up to Cleffa.

"Cleffa."Monica responded. "So this is where you are."

Brock immediately becomes infatuated with the girl.

"I was so worried about you."Monica stated and picked up Cleffa. "Please, don't run away again."

The gang walked up to Monica and Cleffa.

"Your Cleffa is really cute, is it yours?"Denise asked.

"Oh no, this Cleffa belongs to the master of the house."Monica answered.

"Master of what house?"Ash said in confusion.

"I mean the owner of that mansion, Mr Backlot."Monica explained gesturing to the mansion from behind a few trees and looked at the heroes. "I'm Monica, Mr Backlot's house keeper."

"I'm Ash from Pallet Town."Ash replied.

"Pika pikachu."Pikachu said.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Dawn."Dawn commented.

"I'm her twin sister, Denise."Denise responded.

"Piplup."Piplup chirped.

"Kirlia."Kirlia greeted.

"And my gifted name is Brock!"Brock flirted and bend down in front of Monica. "Dear Monica, I swear I wouldn't dare going far away from you! So promise me, you will stay by my side!"

Croagunk stabbed Brock from behind with Poison Jab.

The lightning flashed and it began to rain.

"Oh no!"Dawn gasped. "It's coming down quick!"

"You are welcome to stay at the mansion."Monica assured. "It's just this way."

Monica and the gang hurry to the mansion, where they are welcomed by Mr. Backlot.

Inside the Mansion...

"Well well well, it's all a pleasure to welcome you all into my home."Mr Backlot remarked. "Relax and stay as long as you like."

"Thanks."Ash answered. "That's really nice of you, sir."

"Pika Pika!"Pikachu laughed.

Monica brought out a cart with poffins on it.

"You have such a beautiful home, Mr. Backlot."Dawn commented.

"It's really neat too."Denise chuckled.

"Piplup!"Piplup agreed.

"Kirlia."Kirlia giggled softly.

"Okay!"Monica announced. "You all must be starving by now!"

Then a small group of Igglybuff, Pichu and an Azurill come down to eat the poffins.

"Sorry it took so long."Monica apologised. "Go ahead and eat as much as you want."

"How cute they are."Denise said kindly.

"Good, huh? You see, they are my pride and joy."Mr Backlot complemented.

"Does that mean these pokemon are all yours?"Ash asked.

"Correct."Mr Backlot responded. "I've gathered a few pokemon from here and there, they love to play in my Trophy Garden."

"A garden?"Dawn asked in confusion.

"That's where I met all of you when it started to rain."Monica admitted.

"Quite beautiful."Mr Backlot chuckled. "Wish you could have one?"

"Mr. Backlot has opened up his property to all kinds of pokemon trainers, watchers and breeders alike."Monica explained with a smile. "And if the weather is nice, they all go out there and play a lot! Mr. Backlot's a very generous man."

"And it's a great way, too."Brock agreed. "What a great way for pokemon and people to be close."

Pikachu nodded. "Pika..."

"Piplup piplup."Piplup begged while tapping Dawn's leg.

"Oh your hungry too aren't you?"Dawn remarked. "Okay, snack time for everyone."

"Good idea."Ash agreed.

"Here here."Brock said.

"And I assume your hungry as well, right Kirlia?"Denise asked.

"Kirlia."Kirlia replied with a shy smile.

"Okay, everyone!"Dawn responded. "Come out here for some good eats!"

"You heard what she said, let's go!"Ash stated.

"That means you too and bring out your appetite!"Brock replied.

"We got plenty, so enjoy!"Denise chuckled.

The four heroes took out the rest of their pokemon so that they can eat the poffins that Monica brought.

"There are lots of poffin left around so no need to worry."Dawn assured.

While Pachirisu, Ambipom, Buneary and Piplup were eating their poffins and a Swinub comes running and eats the Igglybuff, Pichu, Cleffa and Azurill's Poffins, then runs over to Dawn's pokemon poffins.

"Whoa, this little guy sure is a big eater."Denise said sweat dropping and holding her pokemon poffin bowls.

"Monica quick, do something!"Mr Backlot protested.

"Yes, sir."Monica replied and walked away.

The pokemon were speechless as they watched the Swinub eat their food.

"That Swinub can sure put it away."Ash complemented.

"But with such a small body, where does it all go?"Brock asked.

After Swinub was done, Dawn's Pokemon were about to attack the Swinub until Pikachu stopped them.

"Here you go."Monica said. "This should keep you happy."

Monica sets down a huge bowl of Poffin and Swinub eats them quickly.

"Your Poffins are safe now, so you can all relax."Monica assured.

Ash and Brock let out a breath of relief.

"That hungry Swinub lives in the forest near here."Mr Backlot explained. "Lately we've been getting more and more visit."

"So it's not your pokemon, Mr Backlot?"Brock asked.

"No, my lovely garden is quite a draw for Swinub and the poffins don't hurt either."Mr Backlot remarked.

Swinub finished it's meal and lays down sleeping.

"Nothing like a nap after a good meal."Dawn laughed as she walked forward.

"Sorry about this...I'll have some fresh poffins ready for you all in no time."Monica admitted.

"Now why don't all of you join us in our lovely dinner this evening?"Mr Backlot asked. "You can sleep here tonight and enjoy the gardens tomorrow. A great idea, I must say."

"Thank you so much, Mr. Backlot."Ash replied. "We love to."

Later that Night...

"Monica is a very good chef, isn't she?"Mr Backlot said. "I'm very lucky to have her as staff!"

"Yeah, you sure are."Dawn answered.

"I think I'm feeling pretty lucky too."Brock remarked.

"I would imagine that you would like to eat this way everyday now, would you?"Mr Backlot chuckled.

"Excuse me, Denise, would you like another cup of tea?"Monica asked.

"Yes, please."Denise responded.

Monica poured some tea in Denise's cup.

"Monica is it alright that we may use your kitchen afterwards?"Denise asked.

"Of course."Monica replied. "But what for?"

Afterwards...

The four heroes were in the kitchen wearing aprons to make poffins.

"I see your all making poffins for your pokemon."Monica commented.

"Now that I've got the right recipe, I can't make enough for Piplup and the whole gang."Dawn admitted.

"Pip Piplup!"Piplup agreed.

"Kirlia."Kirlia replied with a gentle smile.

"Hold on these are some berries from our garden."Monica said and took out a basket filled with some garden fresh berries. "I think that you'll discover if you add these into your poffin mixture, your pokemon will thank you."

"That's so awesome, thank you."Dawn thanked.

"When it comes to tasty and healthy treats, anything Monica puts or see approval on it, it has to be great."Brock complemented.

"And these poffins are going to make history."Ash remarked pumping up.

Pikachu smiled. "Pika pika."

"Let me just set the time and we're ready to cook."Denise stated with a smile and put on the time on her poketch.

The heroes were stirring their poffin mixers in pans.

"The Hearthome Gym?"Monica asked.

"Right, once me and Denise win all the badges were going to enter the Sinnoh League."Ash explained.

"Not only that."Denise said. "One of us might become the new Sinnoh champion."

"Denise and Ash both won an amazing victory at the Pastoria Gym."Dawn added.

"I'm impressed."Monica responded. "That's great."

"I admire Ash and my sister's success, but I'd like to become a Top Coordinator someday."Dawn admitted. "Denise also enters pokemon contests like I do."

"So Denise you have two dreams?"Monica asked.

"Yeah, but I can't decide which one I like the most."Denise commented.

"It's sort of like your other problem."Dawn teased. "You know like the one that you can't tell a guy-"

"Don't say it!"Denise snapped angrily covering Dawn's mouth while blushing.

Kirlia giggled at her trainer's reaction.

Then the timer on Denise's poketch went off causing Dawn to remove her sister's hand from her mouth.

"Dennie's poketch timer went off."Dawn said. "That means the poffin batter should be perfectly done."

"Now all we have to do is pour in the mold and wait for it to cool."Brock explained.

A few minutes later, the heroes poffins were ready to eat.

Dawn and Denise placed their poffins in a big plate.

Dawn's poffins were pink while Denise's poffins were blue.

"Ready!"Dawn announced happily.

"Piplup piplup!"Piplup cheered.

"Kirlia."Kirlia remarked while twirling in joy.

"Look at that Piplup and Kirlia sure look excited."Monica complemented.

"They really are, but mine are still no match for Brock and Denise's poffins."Dawn explained.

"So Brock and Denise are chefs?"Monica asked.

"Oh yeah."Dawn responded.

"But I am more of a baker."Denise admitted.

Suddenly Swinub comes up the table and started eating the poffins.

"Not Swinub!"Ash and Brock shouted in unison.

"Bad Swinub!"Dawn retorted angrily and took the poffin plate away. "These are for all the other pokemon!"

"Swinub?"Swinub asked looking at Monica.

"Remember, you just ate a bunch."Monica reminded.

"How can you get hungry after eating a lot?"Denise questioned.

Swinub snuggled Dawn's arm.

"Aw come on."Dawn begged.

"I don't think that wasn't enough."Brock replied.

"Swinub have some of the ones that I made."Ash suggested taking out his burned poffins.

Swinub sniffed Ash's burnt poffins and sweat dropped.

"Hey, I know that they might be the prettiest poffins, but trust me, they taste just fine."Ash assured.

Ash ate one of his burnt poffins and got sick. "Ugh, kind of..."

The pallet town trainer collapsed on the floor.

"Pika pi!"Pikachu called out in worry.

"Geez, I really need to teach you how to make poffins someday."Denise said with her arms folded.

"If I had to say, I'd say that Swinub prefers Dawn and Denise's poffins."Monica commented.

"I think your poffins recipes have earned you both a real fan."Brock remarked.

"Is that really true, Swinub?"Denise asked in surprise.

"Swinub."Swinub said with a nod and went over to Dawn.

"Well, in that case here eat up."Dawn suggested kindly.

Dawn placed the plate on the table causing Swinub to start eating the poffins.

"It sure takes a chef's good heart to see that."Dawn complemented.

"Then let's get prepared to make more poffins."Denise encouraged with a smirk.

Piplup and Kirlia complained at the two sisters.

"Don't worry."Dawn answered. "We'll make you two a bunch too."

Piplup and Kirlia cheered at Dawn's statement.

The Next Day...

The next morning, the group went out in the Trophy Garden and the pokemon were playing with each other.

"They're all having a real ball."Ash admitted. "That's great."

"You know, in special moments like these, I sometimes wish that I could be a pokemon."Mr Backlot chuckled.

Dawn and Denise came into the garden carrying something big.

"Hello!"Dawn called out.

"It's snack time, everybody!"Denise remarked.

The two sisters sets down a huge bowl of poffins.

"Here you go."Dawn said. "Fresh as they can be, so dig right in and eat as much as you want."

"And make sure you chew carefully before you swallow."Brock instructed.

Swinub began to run towards the poffins, ready to eat them causing Buneary and Pachirisu to protest.

"Hold on, Swinub!"Denise reminded.

Swinub notice Dawn holding a big plate of poffins.

"No need to worry, me and Dennie made lots of poffins for you too."Dawn stated.

Dawn went to the big plate of poffins and started eating.

"Are they good, Swinub?"Dawn asked with a smile.

"Swinub."Swinub mumbled happily.

"You do a chef proud."Dawn commented.

"It was worth it, using the midnight oils, right?"Brock asked.

"It was hard, but it was worth the time."Denise yawned as she sat down between Grotle and Luxio. "Now all we need to do is just relax."

Dawn nodded and let out a yawn while putting her hand in front of her mouth.

Ash and Brock smiled at each other.

Suddenly dust went up, blinding Mr Backlot and the heroes.

"What's going on?!"Ash demanded.

The ground opened up causing Denise and all of the pokemon to go down.

The group went to the giant hall.

"Dennie!"Ash shouted.

"My darling little pokemon, how could something like this happen in my own garden?!"Mr Backlot asked in shock.

Then there was evil laughter heard from the hole.

"Ground floor!"Team Rocket chuckled evilly.

Team Rocket came up from the hole, riding a giant machine.

Team Rocket began to recite their motto.

"Our pit-trap digging skills still is intact!"

"But our drafting to the modern technology today is a necessary fact!"

"On the wind!

"The stars!"

"Dig it, jack!"

"Bringing chaos with a breakneck pace!"

"Dashing hope putting fear in its place!"

"A trap dug any other way is just as sweet!"

"When earth is moved, our work is complete!"

"It's Jessie!"

"And it's James!"

"Meowth, now that's the name!"

"Putting the do-gooders in their place!"

"Team Rocket...!"

"We're in your face!"

"Wobbuffet!"

"Mime, mime, mime, mime!"

"Team Rocket!"Ash growled.

Denise and the pokemon appeared to be trapped in the glass dome of the machine.

"There's nothing like calling a collection of cuties to cure the case of the block instead of the twerpette."Jessie remarked.

"No you don't!"Ash shouted angrily.

"Mr Backlot, it's terrible!"Monica called out as she rushed forward. "All pieces of our food have mysteriously disappeared!"

"Who could've done such a thing?"Mr Backlot asked.

"Maybe a dance pose will give you a clue."James insulted.

"Mime mime!"Mime Jr agreed.

"I think that if you twerps realize that by eating your grub to stay alive, you'll understand and cut us a break."Meowth laughed.

"Stop with all that gibberish and give us back my sister and our pokemon!"Dawn ordered.

"One that gives gibberish deserves another!"Jessie mocked sticking out her tongue.

"This marks the end of our broadcast day!"Meowth announced and pressed a button. "Away!"

Suddenly the machine started to take off into the sky.

"Hey, hey, hey!"Team Rocket remarked.

Denise and the pokemon started calling out for their friends.

"Guys, help us!"Denise begged.

"Dennie!"Ash shouted. "Pikachu!"

Ash and Dawn leapt up high and held on a part of a robot.

Ash lost his grip and landed back down on the grass.

"Ash!"Dawn and Denise called out in unison.

"Dawn!"Ash said.

"Leave it to me!"Dawn assured and went up. "Dennie, everyone, I'm here!"

"Is Ash alright?"Denise asked with a hint of worry.

"Don't worry, Denise."Dawn assured with a smile. "Your boyfriend is fine."

"Not the time!"Denise retorted while blushing.

Suddenly the glass dome and Dawn went down inside the machine.

"No, Dawn, Denise!"Ash shouted.

"Yes, twerp!"Team Rocket laughed.

The machine sent gas at Ash before flying away.

Brock, Mr Backlot and Monica ran up to Ash.

"Ash!"Brock said. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm okay."Ash replied. "But we gotta save the pokemon!"

Inside the Flying Machine...

The pokemon were getting worried.

"It's alright, everybody."Denise assured. "We will get out this."

"We will be back at Mr Backlot's garden, no need to worry."Dawn agreed.

"Dawn, look!"Denise said seeing a lever behind Dawn. "A lever!"

Dawn went up to the lever and pulled it down causing the glass dome to clear away making Denise and the pokemon to get released.

"Your free!"Dawn commented going up to her twin and pokemon.

"Thanks to you."Denise responded.

Swinub started to sniff something causing it to use Take Down to break an entrance to the other side.

"Swinub, what are you doing?!"Dawn demanded. "Come back!"

Dawn followed Swinub to the other side and saw the ice ground type eating the food that Team Rocket stole.

"Wow, something never change."Dawn complemented.

Suddenly Team Rocket quickly ejected Dawn and Swinub from their machine.

"Dawn!"Denise shouted in shock and gritted her teeth. "I am so beating those creeps up for this!"

Denise notice her pokemon and the others were talking to each other with worried expressions.

"Look, everyone."Denise said gaining the pokemon's attention. "I know your guys are scared, but don't be afraid. Remember Team Rocket are just bunch of cowards that would never stop trying to catch pokemon like yourselves. But I can assure that we are getting out of here, if we all work together!"

The pokemon cheered at Denise's statement.

"Alright, come closer and listen."Denise instructed as she bend down to tell the pokemon her plan. "Now here is what we're going to do..."

A While Later...

Team Rocket landed their machine down and started eating the food they stole.

"I think it's safe to stuff our mouths!"Meowth chuckled.

"Something about the taste in food that is so good!"Jessie laughed.

"What is more better is what we will had to the boss is the stolen pokemon."James admitted.

"Wobbuffet!"Wobbuffet agreed.

"Mime mime mime."Mime Jr responded.

Then Swinub rushed forward using Take Down to knock Team Rocket off their mecha and get the stolen food for itself.

"Get your mouth off my food!"Jessie snapped.

"You found Team Rocket, good for you."Dawn complemented as she ran forward and smiled. "Thanks so much, Swinub."

"Swinun swin!"Swinub remarked.

"Give the pokemon and my sister back!"Dawn ordered.

"Ha!"Jessie chuckled. "With that sort of persuasion you get nothing but air!"

"Be scared!"Meowth taunted.

"Now Carnivine!"James said. "Take a bite out of crime!"

Carnivine comes out and James receives a bite on his head.

"Bite the criminals this time not me!"James protested.

"Yanmega, Steel Wing!"Jessie ordered.

Yanmega comes out of it's pokeball and fired Steel Wing while Carnivine used Bite.

"Look out, Swinub!"Dawn protested.

Swinub attacks using Ice Shard, freezing Yanmega and Carnivine.

The frozen pokemon crushed towards Team Rocket.

"Awesome, you used Ice Shard, I'm impressed."Dawn chuckled.

Swinub smiled. "Swinub."

Then a big explosion broke out from the machine causing smoke to come out of the emtrance.

"What now?!"Team Rocket demanded in unison.

Denise and the pokemon came out of the smoke going next to Dawn and Swinub.

"Us that's who."Denise complemented with a glare.

"Great, your all alright!"Dawn said in relief.

"Hey, we weren't going to wait for a rescuer to come."Denise joked.

Monica and the others arrived on Mr Backlot's car.

"Dawn!"Ash called out. "Dennie!"

Ash and Brock came out of the car with Mr Backlot and Monica.

Pikachu jumped onto his trainer's arms.

"Pikachu!"Ash remarked. "Everyone."

The Cleffa, Pichu, Igglybuff and Azurill rushed up to Mr Backlot.

"Oh my darling little pokemon, I missed you so much."Mr Backlot admitted.

"They are okay, Mr Backlot."Monica assured.

"I am so happy."Mr Backlot said. "So truly happy!"

Team Rocket spring back up.

"Well, speak for yourself, Mr Money Bags!"Team Rocket insulted.

"It's back to the garden empty-handed for you!"James stated. "Carnivine use Bullet Seed!"

"Yanmega, Sonic Boom, let's go!"Jessie ordered.

Carnivine fired Bullet Seed and Yanmega used Sonic Boom.

Swinub leapt up.

"Swinub!"Dawn shouted.

Swinub countered the attacks with Ice Shard.

"Alright Piplup, Bubble Beam, let's go!"Dawn ordered.

"Pikachu use Thunderbolt!"Ash ordered.

"Grotle, Solar Beam!"Denise ordered.

Piplup used Bubble Beam, Pikachu fired Thunderbolt and Grotle fired Solar Beam.

The attacks send Carnivine and Yanmega back to Team Rocket causing them to blast off.

"WE'RE BLASTING OFF AGAIN!"Team Rocket screamed as they disappeared in the sky.

Dawn rushed up to Swinub.

"Thanks, Swinub."Dawn responded. "Everyone safe and sound, thanks to you."

"Swinub."Swinub replied with a smile.

Swinub went to the stolen food and hungrily started munching on them.

"Man that Swinub still can put it away, can it? Amazing."Ash complemented.

"Yep."Denise chuckled.

"Swinub."Dawn said softly and went up to Swinub. "So tastes good, huh?"

"Swi!"Swinub nodded.

"Swinub, I was wondering maybe if you would like to come with us on our journey?"Dawn asked.

Denise smiled while Brock and Ash looked surprised.

"Come on, it will be fun."Dawn encouraged.

"Swinub!"Swinub answered while blushing and smiling.

"Wow that's great, thanks."Dawn responded and took out a pokeball.

Swinub went inside the pokeball and it stopped glowing red.

Swinub got caught!

"Alright!"Dawn cheered and held up her pokeball high. "I just caught a Swinub!"

"Hey Dawn that's awesome."Ash commented.

"And that's an awesome way to make a new friend."Brock agreed.

"A new but hungry member in the family."Denise stated proudly.

Dawn showed Swinub's pokeball to the other pokemon.

"I want you all to say hi to our new friend, Swinub."Dawn said.

The pokemon cheered at the new friend in their group.

Afterwards...

It was time for the heroes to leave the mansion.

"I heard that there was going to be a pokemon contest going on in Celestic Town."Monica commented. "I think it would be great if you entered it."

Dawn and Denise were surprised hearing there was another contest.

"Why not?"Brock asked. "After all Celestic Town is a little past Hearthome City."

"It'll be perfect, it's going to be our next contest."Dawn admitted confidently.

"Thank you for letting us know."Denise commented kindly.

"Think nothing of it."Monica replied.

"We've had a great time spending time together, but we ought to get moving on and soon."Ash stated.

"Pika Pika."Pikachu responded in agreement.

"Swinub shouldn't you say bye, too?"Dawn asked.

"Swinub nub."Swinub said.

"I realize that Swinub is my pokemon, but I'm still feeling sad saying goodbye is hard."Mr Backlot explained.

"We'll come back and visit."Dawn assured. "We promise."

"Yes, please do!"Mr Backlot agreed. "The moment you do, Monica will make something good for us to eat and the time to play in my magnificent garden."

"Thanks!"Ash, Dawn and Denise said in unison. "We will!"

"Oh yes, Monica and I promise that I will visit by as well."Brock flirted. "Rolling in the grounds together hand in hand..."

Croagunk poison jabbed Brock causing the breeder to drop down.

"That is if I'm able to stroll anywhere..."Brock mumbled in pain.

Then the heroes waved goodbye at Monica and Mr Backlot as they head off to Hearthome City.
