Chapter 86: Arriving in Style!
The heroes returned to Hearthome City for Ash's Gym battle.
"Sure haven't been in Hearthome City for a while."Ash remarked.
"Your right."Dawn agreed.
"Pika."Pikachu said softly.
"Great, this time we'll be able to have a gym battle."Ash admitted.
"And both get our fifth gym badges."Denise complemented.
Pika smiled. "Pika!"
"Drifloon."Drifloon replied.
But when the group arrived to the Hearthome Gym, they saw the sign that said it was closed.
"What?!"Ash groaned and then looked down. "Are we ever going to have a gym battle here?"
"I guess the gym leader loves to go out a lot."Denise responded with a sheepish smile.
"Brock, how could a gym leader be absent so much at a time?"Dawn asked.
"Hmm...this gym leader must have a lot to do..."Brock suggested.
A limousine pulled up and a brown haired woman and her Lopunny step out.
"Oh, excuse me."the brown haired woman called out. "I thought so you must be the winner of the Hearthome City Tag Battle, your Ash right?"
Dawn and Denise gasped in delight, recognising the woman to be Paris, a famous pokemon stylist.
"Um...yeah."Ash answered in confusion.
"Wow, it's such an honour to meet you face to face like this."Paris admitted. "Are you looking for the Hearthome gym leader?"
"Yeah."Ash replied with a nod. "This is my second time, I've come looking for a gym battle."
"Well I'm sorry to have to tell you, Fantina, the Hearthome City gym leader is still not back."Paris stated. "She's gone on an important training lesson to develop a whole new battling style."
"I hear ya."Ash replied sadly.
"Pika."Pikachu sighed.
Brock began to flirt with Paris.
"Well, my name is Brock and I happened to have been top 4 in the tag battle."Brock flirted.
Croagunk appeared, ready to poison jab his trainer.
"Oh, you were in it too?"Paris asked.
Brock dropped his head in shame.
Croagunk chuckled at Brock's misfortune.
"It's really her."Dawn remarked.
"Sorry, but who's her?"Ash asked.
Dawn and Denise looked at Ash in disbelief.
"Ash, I can't believe you don't know."Dawn commented. "That's Paris, a famous pokemon stylist."
"I give, what's a pokemon stylist?"Ash asked.
"Pika?"Pikachu said in curiosity.
Denise sighed before taking out a magazine that showed Paris and her Lopunny.
"She's a poke stylist."Denise responded. "A poke stylist is a professional fashion designer that helps pokemon look their best."
"Whoa, never heard of that."Ash admitted.
"Buneary."Buneary greeted.
"Drifloon."Drifloon giggled.
"Lopunny."Lopunny replied with a smile.
"Oh what an adorable Buneary and cute Drifloon, you two got."Paris complemented kindly.
"Thank you, my name is Dawn."Dawn said.
"I'm her twin sister, Denise."Denise answered.
"Now you two don't happen to be pokemon coordinators, would you, Dawn and Denise?"Paris asked.
"Yes and going to the top."Dawn replied.
"Me and I happen to do gym battles as well."Denise remarked.
"You both might want to know that the Hearthome Collection starts tomorrow."Paris explained. "So why don't you and your pokemon sign up?"
"Hearthome Collection?"Dawn repeated.
"What is that?"Denise asked.
"It's a pokemon fashion show and it's open to the general public."Paris responded. "Everyone gets to dress up and model their own pokemon in their own original designs."
Dawn, Denise, Buneary and Drifloon looked at each other with excited looks.
"Wow..."Dawn gasped in amazement.
"That would be so much fun."Denise admitted while blushing.
"A poke stylist is one type of a pokemon coordinator, you see and the two winners of the Hearthome Collection will get to work on the poke chic campaign photo shoot."Paris stated. "It's a great way to become a poke stylist."
"Whoa, poke chic campaign."Dawn responded.
"Right, you might say it's a shortcut of becoming a top coordinator."Paris said.
"Shortcut to become a top coordinator?"Denise said in surprise.
"Yes."Paris replied with a nod and looked at Ash. "And Ash you might like it too. Why don't you enter the Hearthome Collection with that cute Pikachu of yours?"
"What? Me?"Ash asked with a startled look.
Pikachu blinked. "Pika?"
"Pikachu, what do you think?"Ash asked. "There is no gym battle."
Afterwards...
Ash, Dawn and Denise registered at the local Pokemon Center.
"Ash, Dennie, I'm so glad that we're entering the Hearthome Collection together."Dawn remarked.
"Well, I'm kind of feeling nervous."Ash stated.
"Pikachu."Pikachu agreed.
Denise held Ash's hand.
"Not to worry, Ash."Denise assured. "We are in this together, remember?"
Then there was a girl shriek in the pokemon center.
The heroes see a tall blonde woman wearing a green dress have caused quite a stir.
There were four other women behind Cocoa.
"It's really her!"
"We love you, Cocoa!"
"You're so great!"
"Thanks for the well-deserved warm welcome."Cocoa chuckled.
"Wow, who is that?"Dawn asked.
"How would you wanna be a poke stylist and not know the great lady Cocoa?"
The heroes turned around and saw Helen walking forward.
"Oh my gosh, Helen!"Denise said with a smile.
"Hi."Helen greeted with a wave.
"It's been a while."Ash admitted.
"Pikachu."Pikachu replied.
"Yes, it has."Helen giggled.
"Are you entering the Hearthome Collection too?"Brock asked.
"Indeed, I am."Helen answered kindly.
"Awesome, us too."Dawn complemented.
"So what is so exciting about this Lady Cocoa?"Denise asked.
"She's only a world famous celebrity, who has the ability to hire all the greatest fashion designers to design for her."Helen explained.
"Wow, I'm impressed."Dawn stated.
"As soon as I heard poke stylist Paris was coming here, of course I had to come too."Cocoa commented. "Gracing the Hearthome Collection with my debut of the season and transforming the winner of the local event into an idol to be adored by the world over."
The girls stared at Cocoa in amazement.
Buneary approached Cocoa, only to be scolded at for coming near her.
"Don't you dare touch me with those filthy paws of yours!"Cocoa snapped.
Buneary became frightened of Cocoa.
"Ah, oh...I'm so sorry."Dawn apologised as she picked up Buneary.
"What? Are you thinking of competing with Buneary?"Cocoa asked smugly. "How pathetic."
Cocoa laughed causing her four fashion friends to laugh along with her.
Dawn became hurt and confused by the ladies coldness.
"They've got some nerve."Ash said bitterly.
"Pika pika."Pikachu agreed softly.
"Well, you should definitely work on your personality."Denise insulted as she walked forward.
Cocoa's companions were startled what Denise just said.
"Who do you think you are talking to me like that?!"Cocoa demanded.
"Someone who can't stand selfish people like you."Denise replied with a frown.
Everyone was surprised what Denise just did.
"I'll make you pay for that!"Cocoa scowled in anger.
Denise simply huffed and walked back to her companions.
"Thanks Denise."Dawn responded with a grateful smile.
"Yeah that was amazing."Helen said.
Drifloon snuggled on Denise's cheek.
"That lady might be famous, but she doesn't treat others and their pokemon in a good way."Denise admitted.
Ash nodded. "You said it, Dennie."
"You have a point there."
The heroes and Helen see a woman with short black hair called Hermione, standing not far where they were.
Cocoa and her companions leave the pokemon center.
"What Cocoa considers fashion is just plain gody."Hermione commented.
"Excuse me?"Dawn asked.
"Yes, what?"Hermione questioned.
"Could you, at least tell me one of her secrets?"Dawn asked.
"That's for me to know and for you to find out."Hermione said simply.
The old woman turned to leave, but then looked at Dawn and Denise.
"Have you ever entered a pokemon contest before?"Hermione asked.
"Yes, we have."Denise responded.
"Coordinators and poke stylist, they're all the same."Hermione stated and walked away.
Dawn and Denise stared at Hermione quietly.
Later that Night...
Dawn and Denise sat outside the balcony, figuring out which ideas to settle for the competition.
"You two still working on your designs?"Ash asked as he walked forward. "I have already Brock making mine for me."
"Well fashion isn't something that is supposed to be easy, Ash."Denise stated.
Ash picked up one of the papers that had one of Dawn's designs.
"Hey, you've got a lot of designs here."Ash remarked.
"Yeah, I guess."Dawn agreed sadly.
"We both have to come up with something and fast."Denise commented with a hint of worry.
"Okay, Ash."Brock said as he walked forward. "Pikachu's outfit is all done."
"Great, thanks a lot, Brock."Ash admitted.
Ash and Pikachu went back inside their room to check the designs that Brock made.
"You know, Dawn, Denise, I could also help you both out too, if you want."Brock suggested.
"Hmm thanks, but I've got to choose which design I'm going to with."Dawn reminded.
"Same with me."Denise added.
"Still not sure?"Brock asked.
Dawn nodded. "Yeah, what do you think the secret is to being a poke stylist?"
"The secret, good question."Brock commented.
The Brock, Dawn and Denise heard Ash and Pikachu talking excitedly about their outfits.
"Awesome, it fits you perfectly!"
"Pika!"
"Wear that and there is no way the audience would love you."
"Wait a minute."Denise stated. "That woman said coordinators and poke stylists were all the same. So fashion and contests are similar except the opponents pokemon won't be actually battling each other."
Dawn gasped when she remembered the advice Zoey gave to her after the Solaceon Contest.
"In the middle of all that flash, Ambipom disappeared."Zoey said."You've gotta remember it's your pokemon are always the main attraction."
"That's it."Dawn said.
"Let's get to work then."Denise said with a confident smile.
Dawn and Denise started doing their designs that will make Buneary and Drifloon the main attractions.
The Next Morning...
"Welcome, everyone to the Hearthome Collection!"Enta announced. "I want you all to join me in a warm Hearthome City welcome to all the poke stylist gathered here today! You all may know that my name is Enta and I'm your master of ceremonies as well as your mayor!"
The crowd cheered at Enta.
"Now it's my honour and privilege to introduce to you the poke stylist judges!"Enta said. "First you all love her, the poke stylist idol superstar...Paris!"
The spotlight shined on Paris, who smiled at the cheering crowd.
"And now presenting our other Hearthome judge."Enta remarked. "She's editor and chief of the poke chic magazine, the lovely Madame Hermione!"
Hermione smiled at the crowd as the spotlight shun on her.
At the Waiting Room...
"Hey, we know her."Dawn said in surprise.
"I didn't know she was poke chic's editor in chief."Helen commented.
In the Stage...
"The Hearthome Collection is a contest that takes into account of the overall impression of the pokemon."Enta stated. "Including its special senses, accessories and its moves!"
The lights turned off causing colourful lights to appear on the stage.
"And here we are!"Enta called out. "Let's get this wonderful, spectacle underway!"
Then the curtains opened revealing a female stylist and her Bellossom.
"Here's Entry Number 1!"Enta remarked.
Bellossom began to twirl around, showing off her accessories while using Razor Leaf.
"It's Bellossom and those lovely fashion accessories!"Enta admitted. "Now that's a magnificent effort of mix and match!"
Paris and Hermione looked at their papers.
"Now moving right along here are our other contestants!"Enta remarked.
Then other stylists went on the stage showing a Chikorita, Magikarp, Toxicroak, Roselia and then a Arcanine.
As the competition gets underway, Hermione was displeased and blames Paris for popularising pokemon fashion for the bedazzled and garish entries so far.
"Now it's time for poke stylist entry number 18, Ash and Pikachu!"Enta remarked.
Then the curtains lifted up letting Ash and Pikachu entered the stage wearing matching colored wigs and striped loincloths.
The crowd laughed at what Ash and Pikachu were wearing.
Paris giggled while Hermione held back her laughter.
"Don't feel so embarrassed, Pikachu."Ash instructed. "Don't forget that you're the star now, so let's hit them with a lightning bolt."
"Pika!"Pikachu replied.
Pikachu jumped into the stage.
"Okay Pikachu, go!"Ash ordered.
Pikachu sprung onto stage to play a drum with his Iron Tail and amazing the crowd with a shower of Thunderbolt.
The crowd cheered at Ash and Pikachu.
The judges praised Ash's originality and creativity.
"Those lightening strike clothes are just the cutest and all I can say is, trés bien."Paris said kindly.
"That kid still doesn't seem to get it, but at least he's making an effort to show his pokemom."Hermione admitted.
"Now our next entry number 19, it's Helen and Flareon!"Enta announced.
Then the curtains opened revealing Helen and her Flareon.
Helen wore a stylish red kimono with her hair tied up in a bun.
Flareon wore a red cape that matched the fire patterns of Helen's kimono.
"Alright, Flareon use Flame Wheel!"Helen ordered.
Flareon went onto the stage to do his performance.
In the Waiting Room...
Dawn and Denise watched as Helen's Flareon did a breath taking fiery performance causing the crowd to cheer loudly.
"Helen is sure an expert on fire types."Denise commented.
A worried look grew on Dawn's face.
"Hey Dawn, Dennie, they loved it."Ash remarked.
"Pika..."Pikachu said while blushing.
"Yeah, you share grabbed the spotlight."Dawn stated kindly.
"Though your outfits were the unexpected."Denise chuckled.
On the Stage...
"Next up is the contestant Jessilina with her pokemon, Wobbuffet!"Enta announced.
Jessilina and Wobbuffet appeared on the stage.
However Jessie's bright and makeup heavy additions to James's carefully crafted look for Wobbuffet don't go over well with the judges.
"Even pretty faces need to hop to it."Jessilina scowled with a glare.
"Wobbuffet."Wobbuffet responded.
Hermione sighed and shook her head. "Talk about garish. A whole new low and bad taste."
"And now it's time for Entry Number 21!"Enta announced. "Cocoa and her Mismagius!"
The crowd cheered loudly for Cocoa.
In the Waiting Room...
Dawn, Denise and Helen frowned hearing Cocoa was on next.
"Okay, time to see what Cocoa was really made of."Dawn said firmly.
Denise and Helen nodded in agreement.
On the Stage...
Then the curtains opened revealing Cocoa and her Mismagius.
Cocoa wore a pink dress while her Mismagius wore a bright orange dress.
"Dear Mismagius, would you please show everyone your new dress?"Cocoa asked.
Mismagius floated out onto the stage, its dress unraveling around it.
"Alright Mismagius, Psywave!"Cocoa ordered.
Mismagius used Psywave which adds a technicolor effect on her dress, creating a beautiful sight.
"Whoa, what an incredible sight!"Enta said.
The crowd stared at the sight in amazement.
"Beautiful."Paris remarked.
Hermione didn't say anything.
"Now for our next entry, Number 22!"Enta stated. "Denise and her Drifloon!"
The curtains opened revealing Denise and Drifloon.
Denise wore a pale silver flowing dress with the skirt hiked up at the middle and layered by indigo fabric. Her hair was tied in a ponytail and had a midnight blue floral hair ornament and along with a black choker around her neck. There were white ruffles on the chest, which was lined with black silk ribbon and tied into a bow on the navel. Beneath she had silver boots with black ribbons.
Drifloon wore a small pale silver dress with a black ribbon it.
"Are you ready, Drifloon?"Denise asked.
Drifloon nodded. "Drifloon."
"Here we go!"Denise remarked with a smirk. "Drifloon use Will-O-Wisp!"
Drifloon used Will-O-Wisp to form small flames around as she flew around causing her to glow in a pretty purple colour while her outfit glowed in a blue colour.
Then Drifloon freed the flames causing them to explode making the crowd cheer loudly.
"Incredible!"Enta complemented. "We just witnessed Drifloon glowing like a colourful flame!"
"Wow that was a mysterious way to show a ghost type."Paris admitted.
Hermione smiled and nodded in approval.
Denise and Drifloon smiled and bowed at the cheering crowd.
In the Hallway...
Dawn and Buneary were waiting for their turn behind the stage as Ash, Pikachu, Helen and Flareon watched them.
"All the contest experience I had gotten, I can't waste it."Dawn thought with a firm look and then smiled. "No need to worry. Buneary, let's go."
In the Stage...
"And now it's time for our final entry, Number 23!"Enta announced. "Dawn and her pokemon, Buneary!"
Then the curtains opened revealing Dawn and Buneary.
Dawn and Buneary were both dressed in beautiful but simple white dresses and matching necklaces.
"Right coming after her sister, she looks completely plain."Enta said.
"True but simplicity could be strong and effective."Paris admitted.
Hermione didn't stay anything but just looked at Dawn and Buneary.
"Okay Buneary."Dawn commented. "Your in a white mountain of snow and your a snow spirit."
"Bun!"Buneary answered happily.
Buneary began bouncing around the stage.
"Alright use Ice Beam!"Dawn ordered.
Buneary performed tricks with Ice Beam for a delightful performance.
"Fashion statics are the most important for you."Dawn commented. "Good way to start the show, Buneary."
Hermione smiled in delight.
"Oh, trés bien."Paris remarked. "Oui! Trés bien."
Buneary and Dawn bowed at the crowd that cheered at them.
In the Waiting Room...
Piplup, Pikachu, Drifloon and Flareon cheered at Dawn and Buneary.
"What a show."Ash chuckled. "That was great."
"Well done, Dawn."Denise said proudly.
"Their performance was like dancing on ice."Helen giggled.
Afterwards...
"The results are in, we've narrowed the number of poke stylists entrance down to five finalists!"Enta commented. "The first one is Entry Number 18, Ash and Pikachu! Second is Entry Number 21, Lady Cocoa, Queen of Hearthome City!"
"We made it."Ash remarked.
"Pikachu!"Pikachu responded happily.
"No doubt, I would win."Cocoa retorted smugly.
"Third, Entry Number 20, Helen and Flareon!"Enta said."Fourth, Entry Number 22, Denise! Our five finalist is none other than Entry Number 23, Dawn!"
"Dawn?"Dawn said in surprise. "That's me!"
Buneary jumped onto Dawn's arms in joy.
"Check it out, Helen."Denise chuckled. "We are the finalists too."
"Yeah, what a relief."Helen complemented with a smile.
Flareon and Drifloon smiled at each other.
The crowd cheered and clapped at Ash, Cocoa, Helen, Denise and Dawn.
"Our awards will be divided up among these finalists!"Enta announced.
"Of course, the rest of you no talents are only here to make me fabulous!"Cocoa laughed evilly.
Denise glared at Cocoa in annoyance.
Suddenly the roof opened up, revealing Team Rocket in a mecha.
"Get that thing out of here!"Hermione ordered angrily.
Team Rocket began reciting their motto.
"You know that you could use a little makeup too!"
"Please, a pompous platitude coming from you..."
"On the wind!"
"What's the point?"
"Yoo-hoo!"
"Bringing chaos at a breakneck pace!"
"Wow I'm so excited, could you tell by my face?"
"A rose by any other name is just as red!"
"Mmm, I knew that I should've stayed home in bed."
"Jessie!"
"And James, poor me."
"It's Meowth to a team!"
"Putting the do gooders in their place!"
"Goody Team Rocket."
"In your face!"
"Out of the way, Team Rocket!"Ash shouted.
"You just don't know when to quit do you?!"Denise snapped.
"No one gives me an advice and gets away with it!"Hermione scowled. "Out of the Hearthome Collection or I'll get you all out of your bad jokes!"
"Hermione, please be careful."Paris warned worriedly while holding her old teacher's shoulders.
"First off, I suggest we take those accessories from that queen for a day and then the plain old twerps and jungle boy."Jessie suggested.
"Sure with joy."Meowth admitted and pressed a button.
Then a bunch of robot hands reached out to grab Paris and Hermione.
"Look out!"Dawn protested. "Quick Buneary use Dizzy Punch!"
Buneary jumped forward and hit a robot hand with Dizzy Punch.
"I hate fluffy ears!"Jessie scowled. "Send this ride to the other side!"
"With pride!"Meowth chuckled.
Meowth sends a robot hand towards Buneary, but Piplup jumped forward and got caught by it.
"Piplup!"Dawn shouted.
The robot hand started waving Piplup around.
"Quick Flareon use Flamethrower!"Helen ordered.
Flareon uses Flamethrower to make the robot hands of the Team Rocket mecha get scorched with an intense blast of fire.
"Our turn, Drifloon use Astonish!"Denise ordered.
Drifloon uses Astonish on Team Robot's robot causing it's hands to explode, shocking Jessie and Meowth.
Dawn quickly catches Piplup, who fainted from the robot's grip.
"I got you."Dawn said with a smile.
"Now Lopunny use Hidden Power!"Paris ordered.
Lopunny uses Hidden Power to cause Team Rocket's mecha to malfunction.
"Alright genius, status!"Jessie demanded.
"We just got milkshake intreat by Lopunny's power!"Meowth panicked.
"Ready?"Paris asked.
Dawn nodded. "Right."
"Now Lopunny Bounce!"Paris ordered.
"Now Buneary Bounce!"Denise ordered.
Then Lopunny and Buneary launch a combined Bounce attack which destroys the mecha and send Team Rocket blasting off.
"I should've been the big winner!"Jessie complained.
"With your mecha, you were the big weenier."James mumbled.
"What was that?!"Jessie demanded with a glare.
"I would consider this a lovely day."Meowth remarked.
"WE'RE BLASTING OFF AGAIN!"Team Rocket screamed as they disappeared in the sky.
Enta resumes the awards ceremony, presenting Ash and Pikachu with the most originality prize.
"Alright folks, let's try this once again!"Enta announced. "This year's awards goes to the groups with exceptional uniqueness to Ash and Helen!"
"Yeah, we got the unique award!"Ash cheered.
"Pika!"Pikachu remarked.
"Flareon."Flareon responded gently.
A bright smile grew on Helen's face as she closed her eyes.
"That was splendid uses of Ash's Pikachu and Helen's Flareon."Hermione said with a smile.
"Bien, bien and they were also double trés cute."Paris complemented.
Dawn and Denise clapped at their friends.
"Of course, we already know who the big winner is."Cocoa responded smugly.
The Twinleaf twins glared at Cocoa.
"And now our lovely Paris will announce our two big winners!"Enta remarked.
"Thanks and the winners are..."Paris started.
The spotlights shun on Cocoa, Dawn and Denise.
Buneary and Drifloon waited nervously for Paris respond.
"The amazing teams of Dawn and Denise with their cute Buneary and adorable Drifloon!"Paris remarked.
"Not me?!"Cocoa said in complete horror.
Dawn and Denise let out excited gasps before hugging each other.
"We both won, Dennie!"Dawn giggled.
"Because we both sticked what was really important."Denise said kindly.
Buneary and Drifloon hugged Dawn and Denise.
The crowd clapped and cheered at the four winners.
"But I was supposed to win!"Cocoa complained. "This doesn't make sense at all!"
"Ah, but the accessories reward is good for you."Hermione stated. "After all it was only your dress and accessories that stood out. You see, darling, you completely forgot about showing your Mismagius."
Paris walked up to Dawn and Denise.
"I just loved the way you two used your accessories so well."Paris admitted. "Simple things that showed off both your Buneary and Drifloon, great, trés bien."
"Right and you both showed them in a way of a true poke stylist."Hermione said in approval.
"Thanks!"Dawn and Denise said in unison.
Brock went up to Paris.
"Well, I was the one who made the accessories and all!"Brock flirted.
"Then you are also trés bien, oui."Paris commented.
"Blast, I could just die."Cocoa muttered while biting her glove.
Mismagius sighed sadly while being next to her trainer.
Dawn, Denise, Buneary and Drifloon pose while wearing their tiaras.
The crowd cheered at the twins and their pokemon.
"Dawn and Denise."Hermione said. "If it's alright with the two of you, I'd like to you two to start poke chic right away."
"Yeah, thank you."Dawn answered with a nod. "But you see our goals are to be top coordinators. So we both have a lot of work to do."
"Yep."Denise responded. "Also I happen to be competing for the Sinnoh League too."
Piplup and Buneary jumped on Dawn's arms while Drifloon snuggled onto Denise.
"I understand."Hermione replied. "You both make your pokemon shine in contests like they did today."
"Thanks!"Dawn and Denise chuckled.
