Chapter 87: The Psyduck Stops Here!
Ash and his friends were traveling through a valley on the way to the next Contest in Celestic Town.
"Celestic Town is just past this ravine."Brock explained looking at his map book.
"Well, I can't wait to get there."Ash remarked.
"Check out these incredible cliffs."Dawn commented.
"It's looks they're getting bigger the more we walk forward."Denise admitted.
"Piplup."Piplup agreed.
The heroes notice three Psyduck in the middle of the road.
"Look isn't that a group of Psyduck?"Dawn asked.
"Yeah."Brock replied.
Dawn scanned the Psyduck with her Pokedex.
"Psyduck the Duck Pokemon."Dawn's Pokedex said. "When a Psyduck's headache gets severe, it starts to exhibit odd powers."
"Hi, do you mind if we get through?"Ash asked as he walked forward.
"Psyduck psyduck psyduck!"the three Psyduck shouted.
Then the Psyduck's eyes glowed pink.
"I don't think I like this!"Brock said nervously.
The three Psyduck tossed the group away with Psychic.
"Hey, what do they think they're doing?!"Dawn demanded.
"It seems that the Psyduck don't want us to pass by."Denise said with a frown.
"Ugh, if that's what you want, we'll get through by force!"Ash retorted and looked at Pikachu. "Pikachu, let's go!"
Ash and Pikachu rushed forward but they get struck back by the Psyduck using Hidden Power.
"Are you okay?"Dawn asked.
"It seems that the Psyduck set up some sort of road block."Brock responded.
"What they do that for?!"Ash questioned with an angry look.
Brock checked his map for an alternative route.
"If we can't get through here."Brock said. "Let's see we'll have to retrace our steps, and go all the way around."
"What?"Dawn asked sadly. "But that'll take days and days, we'll miss the Contest."
"Then I guess we will have to clear this roadblock."Denise suggested.
"Oh, we'll get through here or else!"Ash vowed.
Pikachu nodded. "Pika!"
"If you're gonna be like that then I'm going to be like this!"Ash stated and took out a pokeball. "Turtwig, I choose you!"
His pokeball opened and Turtwig came out.
"Turtwig!"
"Okay, Hoothoot come out and help!"Denise stated.
Her pokeball opened and Hoothoot flew out.
"Alright, Turtwig use Razor Leaf!"Ash ordered.
"Hoothoot use Supersonic!"Denise ordered.
Turtwig and Hoothoot attacked with Razor Leaf and Supersonic, but the three Psyduck used their Hidden Power to destroy the attacks.
"Turtwig now use Bite!"Ash ordered.
"Hoothoot use Aerial Ace!"Denise ordered.
Turtwig use Bite on one of the Psyduck and Hoothoot used Aerial Ace on the other two.
But then the three Psyduck used Psychic to send Turtwig and Hoothoot back.
"Turtwig are you okay?"Ash asked.
"Turtwig."Turtwig replied with a nod.
"Good."Ash answered and took out his pokeball. "Turtwig, return."
Turtwig returned back in it's pokeball.
"Hoothoot, your okay right?"Denise asked worriedly.
Hoothoot smiled. "Hoothoot."
Piplup looked at Brock and Dawn.
"Piplup piplup."Piplup suggested.
"You want us to leave this up to you?"Dawn asked with a unsure look.
Piplup walked up to the three Psyduck and started talking to them.
"Wow, Piplup is up to something."Ash commented.
"Is Piplup trying to negotiate?"Dawn asked.
"I guess he is."Denise replied.
Suddenly the three Psyduck used Hidden Power to hit Piplup.
"Piplup piplup!"Piplup snapped.
"You can't do that to my Piplup!"Dawn argued with a glare. "Bubble Beam, let's go!"
Piplup fired Bubble Beam at the three Psyduck, who used Psychic to send the bubbles right back at Piplup.
"Piplup, Whirlpool!"Dawn ordered.
Piplup sent a Whirlpool at the three Psyduck.
But the three Psyduck used Psychic to block the Whirlpool and lift Piplup up before he fainted on the ground.
"Piplup."Piplup whispered weakly.
"Piplup, those Psyduck."Dawn grumbled and bend down before taking out her pokeball. "Take a long rest."
Piplup returned back in his pokeball.
"Croagunk, come on out!"Brock ordered.
His pokeball opened and Croagunk came out.
"Croagunk!"
"Poison Sting, now!"Brock ordered.
Croagunk fired Poison Sting, but the three Psyduck used Psychic to send the poison stings right back at the heroes.
"Quick Croagunk use Posion Jab!"Brock ordered.
Croagunk moved forward to use Poison Jab.
But then the three Psyduck used Hidden Power to hit Croagunk before using Psychic to knock him out.
"Croagunk!"Brock shouted.
"Chimchar, I choose you!"Ash admitted.
"Kirlia, let's go!"Denise said.
The pokeballs opened causing Chimchar and Kirlia to come out.
"Chimchar!"
"Kirlia!"
"Use Flamethrower!"Ash ordered.
"Magical Leaf, go!"Denise ordered.
Chimchar and Kirlia sent their attacks towards the three Psyducks.
However the attacks failed against the Psyduck's Water Gun attacks.
"Chimchar, are you okay?"Ash asked.
"What about you, Kirlia?"Denise questioned.
Chimchar and Kirlia stood up from the ground.
"Chimchar."Chimchar replied.
"Kirlia."Kirlia said softly.
"They're just too strong."Dawn said sadly.
"Chimchar, return."Ash instructed.
"You as well, Kirlia."Denise suggested.
Ash and Denise returned Chimchar and Kirlia in their pokeballs.
"Ahoy there!"
The heroes looked up and saw Team Rocket above the cliff.
"Team Rocket!"Ash growled.
"We've been monitoring your twerpish mayhem."Jessie remarked.
"That trio of troublemakers seems to have you sad sacks stymied."James commented.
"You're more yellow than they are."Meowth laughed.
"So, you're saying that you could do better than us?"Ash asked with a glare.
"As a matter of fact, our knowledgeable know how could get you past them, making it split."James answered.
"You can't be serious!"Denise scowled.
"Since we're adults, the word 'can't' is not part of our vocabulary."Jessie complemented.
"Really? I bet that losers are part of it."Dawn insulted with a smirk.
Denise and Hoothoot laughed at Dawn's statement.
James, Meowth and Jessie dropped themselves on the ground.
"Cuts on filling in the punchline and watch this!"Meowth instructed with a smirk.
Team Rocket went up to the three Psyducks.
"Alright then Meowth, it's your move."Jessie instructed.
"It's time to find your negotiation group."James agreed.
"Hey, my pump is pride! Watch me speak to those three wacky worrywarts!" Mouth sneered as he walked over to the three Water Types, beginning to explain. "Yo! It's been a long day for us non-twerps."
The three Psyducks looked at Meowth.
"Okay, so I don't exactly know what your deal is but I think that making nicer is make a way to proceed."Meowth commented with a smile.
The three Psyducks glared at Meowth.
"I mean this no doubt, you can hold your own in any brawl which leads to me to ask you dudes a favor by the way."Meowth admitted.
Ash looked at his companions.
"Are they negotiating too?"Ash asked in confusion.
"Your guess is as good as mine."Brock responded.
"Do you think it will work?"Dawn asked.
"I doubt it will, sis."Denise replied.
"Same with your guess as well."Brock said.
Meowth continued talking to the three Psyducks.
"With that power of yours, you can help in our continuing quest to poach the twerp's Pikachu and you can have the greatest of ease without breaking so much of one of Psyduck sweat."Meowth bragged. "Here is the pay off, do that and there is some serious delicious grub for ya, a great deal if I ever heard one!"
Suddenly the three Psyducks used Psychic to send Team Rocket to the sky.
"What kind of negotiation was that!?"James demanded.
"The wrong part!"Meowth admitted.
"Not on their part!"Jessie scowled.
"WE'RE BLASTING OFF AGAIN!"Team Rocket screamed as they disappeared in the sky.
"I stand corrected."Denise complemented.
"They need to get a hobby or something."Ash suggested.
"Boy that's the truth."Dawn agreed.
Then Brock took out Happiny to deal with the three Psyducks.
"Happiny do you think you could get those Psyduck out of the way?"Brock asked.
"Happiny."Happiny remarked.
"Great!"Brock said. "Then let's get to it!"
Happiny jumped toward the three Psyducks, who used Hidden Power to sent her back.
"Happiny!"Brock shouted.
Happiny gets angry and lifts up a gigantic boulder
"Wow, look at that!"Dawn gasped.
Happiny tried to throw the gigantic boulder to the three Psyducks, but she loses her balance and swerves around.
The heroes cried out in shock, not wanting to get crushed by a giant boulder.
Eventually, Happiny crashed and broke the boulder before dropping on the ground.
"Happiny are you okay?"Brock asked.
Happiny tried to go up to her trainer, but she fainted on the ground.
"Okay Swinub is your turn take a shot!"Dawn stated.
Her pokeball opened and Swinub came out.
"Swinub!"
"Dig, let's go!"Dawn ordered.
Swinub started to dig underground.
"I'm sure it'll work as long as Swinub launched an underground attack."Dawn assured.
"Great idea."Ash responded with a smile.
"Dawn, you better check again."Denise instructed.
The heroes noticed Swinub was lifted up in the air by the three Psyducks before dropping on the ground.
"Swinub are you okay?"Dawn asked worriedly as she rushed forward.
"Swinub."Swinub responded.
Then the group sat down to form a plan.
"Now what are we going to do?"Ash asked.
"There has got to be a reason by those three Psyducks are acting in an angry and forceful way."Brock explained.
"Maybe they're trying to warn us that trouble might be ahead?"Dawn suggested.
"Well if they are, those Psyducks should learn how to warn in a better manner."Denise commented.
"Ah, I'll go and take a look."Ash admitted.
The heroes looked up the cliff.
"And just how are you going to do that?"Dawn asked.
"Ah! I'll use Gliscor to fly up there while I'm holding on so I could see the Psyducks."Ash complemented.
"Ash are you sure about this?"Denise questioned.
"No need to worry, Dennie."Ash assured. "Everything is going to be fine."
"Maybe it's best that I should come with you."Denise suggested.
"Alright then."Ash chuckled.
Pikachu and Hoothoot looked at each other.
"Hoothoot?"Hoothoot asked.
"Pika pikachu."Pikachu responded with a nod.
Then Ash, Denise, Pikachu and Hoothoot went up the cliff together.
"Okay Gliscor, I choose you!"Ash stated.
His pokeball opened and Gliscor came out.
"Gliscor!"
"Here's the deal, we need to fly up there."Ash explained.
Gliscor looked up in the sky in confusion.
"I get it you might think there is not enough wind."Ash said.
"Hoothoot, you will use your wings to blow up some wind on my signal."Denise instructed.
Hoothoot nodded. "Hoothoot."
"Now Ash and Dennie, remember to be careful!"Dawn called out.
Brock was dressed in a Mexican outfit handed Dawn some maracas.
"What are those?"Dawn asked in confusion. "Why are you dressed like that?"
"I thought that if we'd distract the Psyduck, they wouldn't notice Ash and Denise flying up with Gliscor."Brock explained and grabbed Dawn's wrist. "Come on, let's hurry!"
"Wait!"Dawn protested. "Wait!"
Brock began to perform Brock's Paradise and Dawn joined in while not totally impressed by the maracas routine.
"Come on Dawn, you too."Brock encouraged.
"Your not actually serious, are you?"Dawn asked.
"Of course."Brock responded.
The three Psyducks stared at the duo in curiosity.
"Hoothoot flap up your wings!"Denise ordered.
Hoothoot started flapping his wings causing Gliscor to get some air boost.
"Gliscor, go for it!"Ash stated.
Gliscor leapt off the small cliff and began to fly properly.
Then Ash and Denise grabbed onto his legs.
"Gliscor, your doing really great."Ash complemented.
"Keep it up."Denise chuckled.
Brock and Dawn shook the maracas and dancing to distract the three Psyducks.
"Alright Gliscor, keep going!"Ash encouraged.
"Gliscor."Gliscor replied.
Gliscor flew passed the three Psyducks.
"Looks like Brock and Dawn's distraction is working."Denise commented.
Gliscor was starting to lose it's balance a little bit.
"Whoa, hold on Gliscor!"Ash protested. "We are not there yet!"
"Hoothoot more wind, please!"Denise ordered.
Hoothoot flapped his wings giving more air to Gliscor.
"Gliscor change directions!"Ash ordered.
Gliscor started bumping into other hills causing Ash and Denise to struggle to hold on to it's legs.
"Fly straight, please fly straight!"Ash begged.
"Gliscor be careful!"Denise shouted.
Ash and Denise screamed as Gliscor crashed into a wall causing them to drop on the ground.
"Ouch."Ash groaned and rubbed his head. "Dennie, Pikachu, you guys okay?"
"Pika."Pikachu replied.
"Yeah, we're fine."Denise answered.
"Looks like we're gonna have to practice on your flying skills."Ash commented.
"Gliscor."Gliscor cried and looked down.
"Hey, it's okay."Ash assured. "We can take it one step at a time."
Ash stood up and took out a pokeball.
"Gliscor, return."Ash stated.
Gliscor returned inside it's pokeball.
Ash and Denise started running causing Pikachu and Hoothoot to follow their trainers.
The group gasped when they saw a group of Psyducks in a lake and a few mother Psyducks were holding eggs.
"Whoa, Psyducks."Ash said in surprise. "But what are they doing?"
The two trainers quietly walked around the lake.
"Look Ash."Denise remarked with a smile. "Some of the Psyducks are holding eggs."
"Your right, Dennie."Ash agreed. "So that means the three back there were protecting those eggs."
"Pika."Pikachu whispered.
"Hoothoot hoot."Hoothoot responded.
Meanwhile...
Brock was continuing shaking the maracas and dancing while Dawn sat down in boredom.
"How much longer your going to do this?"Dawn asked and looked at the Psyducks. "I don't think the Psyducks are watching anymore."
Brock sweat dropped when he saw the three Psyducks weren't watching his dance anymore.
In the sky, Ash and Denise were holding onto Gliscor, who was flying towards their friends.
"Wait Gliscor, you gotta pull me please!"Ash ordered. "Pull up!"
"Otherwise we are going to crash again!"Denise panicked.
Ash accidentally hit one of the Psyducks with his causing the three Psyducks to get startled.
Denise lost her grip on Gliscor's leg causing Hoothoot to fly down and carefully uses Silver Wind to land her back down safely.
"Thanks Hoothoot."Denise commented with a relief smile.
Hoothoot smiled. "Hoothoot."
"No, straight!"Ash shouted. "No! No! Left!"
Gloves, Ash and Pikachu ended up hitting a wall causing Dawn, Denise and Brock to sweat drop.
The three crushed to the ground.
"You okay?"Dawn, Denise and Brock asked in unison.
"Y-Yeah."Ash answered.
"Pika."Pikachu said.
"Gli."Gligar mumbled.
The heroes sat around in a circle as Ash and Denise explained to their friends of what they saw.
"So all the Psyduck had eggs?"Dawn asked.
"All of them."Ash replied. "They were all hanging around and keeping them warm."
"It's no wonder those three Psyducks were so overprotective in this valley."Denise complemented.
"And in an important time like this, they wouldn't want people coming near them."Brock explained.
"Well that of course explains why the Psyduck were battling so hard."Dawn responded.
"You know, if we just let them know that we mean no harm, I'm sure they'll let us pass through."Ash suggested.
"But how do we do that?"Dawn asked.
"Good question."Ash said with a troubled look.
Suddenly there was a loud bang causing the heroes to get alarmed and they saw explosives dropped where the three Psyducks were.
Team Rocket appeared on their air balloon.
"What was that?!"Ash demanded.
Team Rocket began reciting their motto.
"It's not of a question of what, but who!"
"Though asking why is strictly taboo!"
"On the wind!"
"Past the stars!"
"I see you!"
"Bringing chaos at a breakneck pace!"
"Dashing all hope putting fear in its place!"
"Rocking your twerpish world in a snap!"
"Making everything worse while fitting the flap!"
"It's Jessie!"
"And it's James!"
"Meowth now that's a name!"
"When you're a team, you're a team all the way!"
"And that team's Team Rocket."
"Here to stay!"
"Yeah like a bad dream!"Dawn retorted.
"Funny taking that trio would be simple when they forget to duck."Jessie said with a smirk.
Then three pluming devices came out of the balloon and went towards the Psyducks.
"Leave them alone!"Denise shouted.
"They're only trying to protect their friends!"Ash snapped.
"That's right!"Dawn agreed with a glare.
The pluming devices grabbed the Psyducks by the heads and began lifting them up.
"Alright, Staravia use Aerial Ace!"Ash ordered.
His pokeball opened and Staravia came out.
Staravia flew towards the air balloon.
"Knock Aerial Ace off of its face!"James demanded and pressed a button on a remote.
James takes Staravia out with a mechanical arm.
"Croagunk, Poison Jab, let's go!"Brock called out.
Croagunk came out from it's pokeball and activated Poison Jab.
"Poison Jab backstab!"James replied.
The mechanical arm activated it's Poison Jab.
Croagunk dodged it and punctured the balloon and brings it down with a Poison Jab.
The three Psyducks got free from the pluming devices and the heroes rushed up to them.
"Hey, you Psyducks are okay?"Ash asked.
Team Rocket quickly stood up.
"Quick, Yanmega move it!"Jessie ordered.
"You join the party too, Carnivine!"James added.
Carnivine started biting his trainer's head.
"I'm not a party flavour!"James shouted in pain.
"Quick Yanmega, Sonicboom!"Jessie ordered.
Yanmega fired Sonicboom towards the heroes.
"Quick Buneary, Ice Beam!"Dawn ordered.
"Use Spark, Luxio!"Denise ordered.
Buneary and Luxio appeared in the battle scene.
Buneary fired Ice Beam which hit the Sonicboom and Luxio used Spark causing the electric attack to hit Yanmega.
"Carnivine, go!"James ordered. "Bash them with Bullet Seed!"
Carnivine fired Bullet seed at the heroes.
"Chimchar, come out and use Flamethrower!"Ash ordered.
Chimchar came out and used Flamethrower at Carnivine's Bullet Seeds.
"Alright, Croagunk use Brick Break!"Brock ordered.
Croagunk hit Carnivine with Brick Break.
"Chimchar use Flame Wheel, let's go!"Ash ordered.
Chimchar uses Flame Wheel towards Team Rocket with the Psyducks adding Water Gun to the mix, sending the evil trio blasting off again.
"This is ridiculous!"Jessie scowled.
"An insult!"James argued.
"The second time!"Meowth added.
"WE'RE BLASTING OFF AGAIN!"Team Rocket screamed as they disappeared in the sky.
The heroes walked up to the three Psyducks.
"Psyducks, thank you for saving us."Ash remarked.
"Now that you saw us beat up creeps, you will let us pass through right?"Denise asked.
Then a fourth Psyduck appeared, alerting the others to something down by the lake.
"What's with them?"Dawn asked.
"Come on, let's go."Ash suggested.
Ash and his friends follow the Psyducks and reached the lake in time to see eggs hatch.
"Aw, a little Psyduck."Denise said sweetly.
"What a cutie."Dawn giggled.
Then two more eggs started glowing.
"Look at that."Ash chuckled. "The eggs are glowing."
The three eggs turned into three little Psyducks.
"Wow!"Dawn gasped happily. "Now they have three little Psyducks."
The Psyducks hugged their new babies.
"They may be just have hatched, but they're still holding their heads."Dawn commented.
"That's one of their unique characteristics."Brock admitted.
When the heroes tried to walk forward, the adult Psyducks blocked their path.
"No, I don't think you understand, we're your friends!"Ash assured.
"Maybe I should go ahead and whip up some special pokemon food for the little ones."Brock suggested.
"Awesome idea."Denise commented. "If they try it, they'll trust us completely."
Ash, Dawn and Denise placed bowls of pokemon food for the Psyducks to enjoy.
"Here give it a try."Ash suggested.
"When it comes to the best pokemon food around, Brock is number 1."Dawn chuckled.
A Psyduck picked up a bit of food from the bowl and ate it.
"Yummy isn't?"Denise asked kindly.
"Let your little ones try."Ash requested.
The Psyducks started enjoying eating Brock's food with their little ones.
"They love it, Brock."Ash stated. "After all, with the time and energy the little ones spent on, they've got be starving."
"You know Ash, you're right."Brock agreed.
"It seems that they haven't eaten for a long time."Denise said.
"Hey, you know what?"Dawn asked. "I think we should call the little Psyduck; Psyduck-lings."
"I'll buy that."Brock agreed.
"Pretty funny."Ash responded.
"Absolutely."Denise remarked.
"But, you know? It's kind of weird."Brock admitted.
"What do you mean?"Dawn asked.
"This lake is awfully tiny for all these Psyducks to live in."Brock replied.
"The pond looks kind of small."Dawn said.
"Now looking at this map, Lake Psyduck is a totally different bodies of water."Brock admitted looking at his small book.
"Really?"Ash asked. "So then how come the Psyducks don't live there?"
"Then let's go to Lake Psyduck."Denise suggested. "It obvious these Psyducks were kicked out from their homes."
Brock, Ash and Dawn nodded in agreement.
Afterwards...
The heroes headed to Lake Psyduck with the three Psyducks.
"Look at that..."Ash said.
"Lake Psyduck looks like a much bigger place to live."Dawn admitted.
"Yeah, certainly big enough for all of them."Brock commented.
"And look there are so many berries for them to eat."Denise stated.
"Right, so why did they move to that other lake?"Ash asked.
Suddenly three Muks appeared out of the water.
"The Muk!"Ash shouted in shock.
"Muk, huh?"Dawn asked and took out her pokedex.
"Muk the Sludge Pokemon."Dawn's Pokedex said. "A horribly toxic liquid seeps out of it's body."
One of the Muk used Sludge Bomb causing the heroes and Psyducks to go out of the way.
"That's Sludge Bomb!"Brock warned.
Pikachu rushed towards the three Muks to talk to them.
"Pika pika pikachu!"Pikachu protested.
The Muks fired Sludge Bomb causing Pikachu to jump out of the way.
"Buizel, I need your help!"Ash stated.
"Same with you, Kirlia!"Denise commented.
"Yeah Ambipom, you too!"Dawn said.
"And you too, Croagunk!"Brock added.
Buizel, Kirlia, Ambipom and Croagunk appeared in the battle scene.
"Buizel use Aqua Jet!"Ash ordered.
"Kirlia, Ice Punch, go!"Denise ordered.
Buizel used Aqua Jet and Kirlia used Ice Punch at one the Muks.
Then the second Muk's hand started glowing.
"Whoa, here comes Focus Punch!"Brock called out.
"Quick, Ambipom use Double Team!"Dawn ordered.
Ambipom made clone copies of herself to surround the Muks.
"Alright now Double Hit!"Dawn ordered.
Ambipom hit the Muk with Double Hit.
The third Muk fired it's Sludge Bomb attack.
"Let's go Croagunk, dodge!"Brock ordered.
Croagunk dodged the attack.
"Now Brick Break!"Brock ordered.
Croagunk hit the Muk with Break Break.
The Muks fired their Sludge Bomb attacks at the heroes pokemon.
"Buizel use Sonicboom!"Ash ordered.
"Quick, Ambipom use Swift!"Dawn ordered.
"Hoothoot use Silver Wind!"Denise ordered.
"Croagunk use Poison Sting!"Brock ordered.
Buizel, Ambipom, Hoothoot and Croagunk fired their attacks at the Muks.
"We've got them now!"Ash announced. "Pikachu use Thunderbolt!"
"Now Kirlia use Magical Leaf!"Denise ordered.
Pikachu used Thunderbolt and Kirlia used Magical Leaf.
Pikachu and Kirlia's Thunderbolt and Magical Leaf combined sending the Muks blasting off.
Afterwards...
Upon landing, the Muk were pleased with their new sludge-filled surroundings and soon fall in love with the other Muk already living there.
In Lake Psyduck...
The Psyducks brought their little ones to the lake.
"Those Muks are all gone."Ash remarked.
"Now you can all live in this lake in peace."Dawn assured.
The Psyducks jumped into the lake to have fun together.
"They all look so happy."Denise said.
"Of course now that their blocking days are over."Brock chuckled.
"Yeah."Ash agreed.
"Don't forget to be so nice to each other."Dawn reminded with a smile.
Ash, Dawn, Denise and Brock then continued their journey to Celestic Town.
