Pokemon: Friends to the End
Chapter 89: Up Close and Personable!
On the third day of Pokemon Summer Academy, the students were tasked with studying a water type pokemon from the lake and presenting their findings.
"Now what do you say that to do something a little different?"Professor Rowan asked.
"Yeah!"the students cheered excitedly.
"Good because today, I'd like you to observe the water type pokemon in this lake."Professor Rowan admitted.
"You may express your findings in a report, sketch or any way that you choose. But your grade will be based on your final presentation."Yuzo explained. "You may work on your own or groups if you prefer."
"But because of the water pokemon in this lake area are still being researched, they are not allowed to be caught."Professor Rowan commented.
"Also, please remember that leaving the area is forbidden."Yuzo said. "Priority number one is safety first."
"Right Pikachu, let's go find some water pokemom and get us an A+."Ash commented.
"Pika Pikachu."Pikachu answered.
"Well, you're not getting ahead of me."Angie stated with a smirk. "Alright Shinx, what do you say we move?"
"Shinx Shinx."Shinx responded excitedly.
"Us, too."Dawn agreed and looked at Piplup. "What do you say we beat them all, Piplup?"
"Piplup!"Piplup answered kindly.
"Shall we get started, Vaporeon?"Denise asked.
Vaporeon nodded. "Vaporeon."
"Right then off you go."Professor Rowan ordered.
The students went to start their reporting and drawing of water pokemon.
The heroes and Angie walked up to three Lanturn-shaped pedal boats.
"Wow, I bet those are gonna be a blast."Ash responded.
"They would be a great way to observe pokemon."Dawn agreed.
"It sure would, sis."Dawn agreed.
While standing by the lakeside, Ash and Pikachu see a flash of light coming from across the lake and Pikachu suddenly becomes hypnotised.
"What is that?"Ash asked.
Pikachu started to walk towards the light, but Ash stopped him immediately.
"Hey, are you okay?"Ash asked as he bend down. "Pikachu?"
Pikachu immediately snapped out of the trance.
"Pika?"Pikachu asked.
"You were acting weird."Ash admitted.
Ash looked back at where the light came from.
"That's strange, I wonder what that light was."Ash said.
Angie and Shinx walked up to Ash and Pikachu.
"Hey, Ash."Angie replied. "Wanna take a boat with me?"
"Sure, let's go."Ash answered.
"So Dawn, let's grab the other one."Brock suggested.
"Right."Dawn responded.
Dawn and Brock took the second Lanturn boat.
Denise looked at Vaporeon.
"Come on Vaporeon, let's go too."Denise suggested.
"Vaporeon."Vaporeon answered kindly.
Ash and Angie use one of the boats to explore the far side of the lake, while Dawn, Brock, Denise and Vaporeon followed using the other boats.
Denise and Vaporeon checked the water and saw a few Horsea, Kingler and a Corsola swimming beneath.
An excited look grew on Vaporeon's face.
"You want to go for a swim, Vaporeon?"Denise asked with a smile. "Go on then."
Vaporeon jumped into the water and did a small splash.
While crossing, Ash and Angie stumbled across a Dewgong and a Sealeo.
"Look!"Ash chuckled. "There's a Seel and a Poliwag!"
A Chinchou appeared next to Ash and Angie's boat.
"Hey and there's a Chinchou over there."Angie complemented.
"Pika."Pikachu giggled.
Denise glanced at Ash and Angie before letting out a sigh.
"I wish I could be with Ash."Denise mumbled.
Suddenly a water gun splashed on Denise's face.
"Huh?!"Denise asked. "What the-"
Vaporeon gave Denise a cheeky giggle.
"Ha, ha, very funny."Denise commented with a frown. "I'm not jealous. Ash and Angie are just rivals that's all."
Denise notice a bright light coming from across the lake, which earned her attention.
Vaporeon stared at the light and started swimming away.
"Vaporeon, where are you going?"Denise asked. "We're not supposed to leave this area."
The Bubble Jet pokemon shook her head and swam back to her trainer.
A Surskit poked it's head out from the water.
"Whoa, who is that pokemon?"Denise questioned and took out her pokedex.
"Surskit the Pond Skater Pokemon."Denise's Pokedex said. "It appears as if it is skating on water. It draws prey with a sweet scent from the tip of it's head."
"A bug and water type, I'm definitely drawing this pokemon for my project."Denise stated with a confident smile.
Vaporeon smiled. "Vaporeon."
Dawn and Brock spotted a Huntail and a Seel.
"A Huntail and a Seel."Brock said.
"Piplup."Piplup responded.
"This lake has all kinds of pokemon."Dawn answered.
A Dewgong appeared out of the water in front of Ash and Angie before jumping back into the lake, splashing them.
"What's that?"Angie asked.
"It's a Dewgong."Ash answered.
"And a healthy looking Dewgong too, I got it."Ash remarked. "I'm gonna observe that Dewgong for my project."
"Sounds like a plan to me."Angie remarked and looked at a Sealeo. "And that?"
"A Sealeo, cool."Ash answered.
"Wow...a Sealeo, huh?"Angie said. "Now there's one healthy and strong pokemon for sure. Of course, that's the perfect choice for me."
Ash and Angie nodded at each other.
Dawn and Brock spotted a Gorebyss swimming by.
"Wow, what's that pokemon?"Dawn asked.
"A Gorebyss."Brock responded.
Dawn took out her pokedex to scan Gorebyss but then Conway came by on his boat.
"Gorebyss the South Sea Pokemon."Conway answered with a smirk. "It's long beautiful pink body is more vivid in the springtime."
"What do you want?"Dawn asked.
"To offer my help."Conway replied. "My encyclopedia mind about pokemon is yours for asking, hm hm hm."
Then Conway moved away causing Brock and Dawn to sweat drop.
"I'm gonna observe that Gorebyss."Dawn remarked. "It's the prettiest thing."
A Chinchou swam beside the Gorebyss.
"Well, as for me, Chinchou."Brock admitted and started drawing. "It's a done deal."
Denise finished drawing the Surskit on her paper.
"Hmm, I think I did a good job."Denise suggested.
Vaporeon looked at Denise's drawing of Surskit and nodded in agreement.
"Come on, this looks like a great Dewgong!"Ash agrued.
"Well, mine is a spitting image of a Sealeo!"Angie snapped.
Denise brought her pedal boat next to Ash and Angie's.
"Alright, what is with all the argument about?"Denise questioned.
"Dennie is my drawing of Dewgong neat?"Ash asked.
"Obviously, my image of Sealeo is better."Angie retorted.
Denise looked at Ash's drawing of Dewgong and then Angie's drawing of Sealeo.
"I say they look okay to me."Denise admitted.
Ash angrily scribbled on his drawing and stood up.
"If we give these sketches to Professor Rowan, we're gonna flunk."Ash stated. "But if we got closer to the pokemon."
"Yeah, I think you're onto something."Angie commented with a smile.
"You mean actually go swimming down there?"Denise asked. "Sounds fun."
Dawn and Brock came by on their boat.
"Are they thinking about jumping into the lake?"Dawn suggested.
"Yeah."Brock agreed.
The group all put on their swimming costumes and dived into the lake to be able to interact with the water pokemon.
Ash, Pikachu, Angie, Shinx, Denise and Vaporeon brought their heads out of the water.
"We've got to be in the water to check out the water type pokemon."Ash said.
"For sure."Angie responded.
Dawn, Piplup and Brock shot out of the surface.
"The Gorebyss is prettier underwater."Dawn remarked.
"So was the little Corsola."Denise chuckled.
Then a Chinchou came out of the surface causing Angie to get startled a little.
"Chinchou involves electricity through their antennae."Brock explained.
"Cool."Angie responded.
Ash touched a Dewgong's horn.
"I didn't know that a Dewgong horn was this hard."Ash complemented.
Denise sniffed the sweet aroma on Surskit's yellow cap.
"Smells just like sugary syrup."Denise answered.
Vaporeon purred in agreement.
A Sealeo nuzzled on Angie's cheek.
"Amazing, I get it."Angie said. "You're using your nose to get to know me, right?"
"Sealeo."Sealeo responded.
Brock fed the Chinchou some pokemon food while Pikachu and Shinx watched from Ash and Angie's boat.
"Chinchou."Chinchou answered.
"Ah ha, Chinchou really likes the flavour of this food."Brock admitted.
Dawn and Piplup were swimming with the Gorebyss.
"I knew that Gorebyss was just pretty, but I never thought of it up this close."Dawn giggled.
"Piplup."Piplup agreed.
Afterwards the group return to the bank to begin writing a report on each of their pokemon.
"Let's observe them a little more, then let's get to work."Ash suggested.
"Right."Brock agreed. "Then, finally comes the report."
"Oh goody, when it comes to reports, I'm the worst."Angie stated.
"Nope, I am."Ash admitted.
"Nope, me."Dawn adder.
Then Conway appeared behind Dawn.
"Fear not, Dawn."Conway assured. "For I'd be happy to transcribe your thoughts."
"What do you mean, transcribe?"Dawn asked.
"Elementary, it's: simply means that you do the talking and then I'll write anything down to say for the report, see?"Conway chuckled.
"Um thank you, but I have to write the report by myself."Dawn stated with a sheepish smile.
"You do realise your not in the same group as us."Denise reminded with a frown.
"I know."Conway answered. "But if Dawn changes her mind, I'll be around."
"Alright, let's finish this up."Ash suggested.
"Hold on."Angie requested.
"Angie, what's wrong?"Ash asked.
"All of the sudden Shinx is missing."Angie answered worriedly.
"Missing?"Ash repeated.
Ash, Brock, Dawn and Denise notice Shinx wasn't around.
"Piplup, weren't you and Shinx playing together?"Dawn asked.
"Piplup."Piplup said and shook his head in respond.
"Let's go look."Brock suggested.
Ash nodded. "Okay."
The heroes and Angie began looking around for Shinx.
"Shinx!"Dawn called out.
"Shinx, where are you?"Ash shouted.
"Pika pi!"Pikachu said.
"Vaporeon!"Vaporeon called out.
Denise took out Luxio to help them look for Shinx.
"Do you have Shinx's scent, Luxio?"Denise asked.
"Luxio!"Luxio replied.
The heroes notice a bright light across the lake.
"There is that light again."Ash said.
"What do you mean again?"Dawn asked.
"It flashed before."Ash answered.
"Yeah, me and Vaporeon saw it too."Denise admitted.
Piplup started walking towards the light.
"Piplup, what's wrong with you?"Dawn asked.
Piplup blinked causing his eyes to go back to normal.
"But why?"Dawn asked.
"The same result."Ash stated. "When that light flashed, Pikachu's eyes got all spacey."
"Interesting, if that is in fact what happened then the legend may end up being true."Conway explained.
"What legend?"Dawn asked.
"You see, there's a famous legend that's concerning this lake."Conway explained. "It says that when a strange blue light flashes, pokemon start vanishing."
"Man, I don't like that legend at all."Ash commented.
"It sounds creepy."Denise responded in concern. "A blue light..."
"And pokemon start vanishing."Dawn finished.
"Well, with Shinx disappearing, it may have something to do with that legend get it?"Conway asked as he adjusted his glasses.
"We gotta do something!"Ash suggested.
"You're right!"Angie agreed. "I say that we go and find out where that light is coming from!"
The group started running towards where the blue light was coming.
"Hey, folks!"Conway called out. "Remember that we're not allowed to go far from the lake!"
The group ignored Conway and continued running.
"But I guess if Dawn is going, then I may not have much choice."Conway stated.
Conway began running after the heroes.
A While Later...
The heroes put on their usual clothes before heading to the forest.
"Which way?"Ash asked.
"Well, if I remember correctly it was..."Dawn started.
"It was of the northwest from here!"Conway interrupted.
"You don't have to come with us, you know."Dawn reminded with a nervous smile.
"Oh no no, I want to soak in everything that I know about pokemon."Conway chuckled.
Angie, Ash and Brock watched in confusion while Denise sighed in disproval.
When the group arrived outside a cave, dark clouds appeared in the sky.
"I'm confident that Shinx is around here somewhere."Conway suggested.
"There's something creepy about this place."Dawn said with a nervous expression.
"Not to worry."Conway assured. "No matter what happens, rest assured, I'll protect you."
Suddenly thunder rumbled and rain poured down causing Conway to scream in terror.
"Help me!"Conway screamed as he rushed inside the cave.
"Wimp."Denise muttered simply.
The heroes rushed inside the cave after it began to rain heavily.
"Man, it's really coming down."Ash admitted.
"I just hope that Shinx is alright."Angie said in worry.
"I think we should all take a break for now."Brock suggested.
"Pika."Pikachu agreed.
"Piplup."Piplup replied.
"Vaporeon."Vaporeon sighed.
Conway looked deep into the cave and spots the odd light again.
"Ah, look at this."Conway stated.
The group see the light ahead in the cave.
"That's right, the legend says that the blue light comes forth from the strange green cave."Conway commented.
"Looks green to me."Angie said.
"Does that mean that the legend of the lake is true?"Dawn asked.
"Then let's keep walking further to find out."Denise suggested.
"I agree with Dennie."Ash responded. "We've got to go and look."
The group started venturing farther into the cave.
"That is the light."Dawn said.
Suddenly Pikachu and Vaporeon became hypnotised by the light causing them to walk forward.
"Come on, Pikachu."Ash begged. "Just keep it together."
"Vaporeon, wake up."Denise pleaded.
Pikachu and Vaporeon's eyes went back to normal.
"Then, something has got to be back there."Brock reminded.
"Then that means Shinx has got to be there too."Angie suggested.
The heroes entered a green-lit cavern filled with a lake and the mysterious light swam closer to them.
"Shinx!"Angie called out. "Where are you? Shinx?!"
"Shinx, come out!"Ash shouted.
"Let us know where you are!"Dawn stated.
Pikachu, Piplup and Vaporeon started calling out as well.
Suddenly something bright blue appeared inside the water.
"Is that-"Denise started.
"Don't look!"Ash warned.
Pikachu and Vaporeon quickly closed their eyes.
Piplup started to become hypnotised again causing Dawn to grab him.
"Piplup, snap out of it!"Dawn demanded.
Piplup returned to normal as Dawn picked him up.
Ash picked up Pikachu while Denise held Vaporeon in her arms.
"So that's it."Angie said.
"This is where the strange light is coming from."Ash stated.
The heroes watched in silence as the blue light came close to them.
Then the source of the light leaped from the water, revealing itself to be a Lumineon.
"What's that?"Ash asked.
"A Lumineon."Brock answered.
"It's beautiful."Denise replied.
"Lumineon..."Dawn started and took out her pokedex.
"Lumineon the Neon Pokemon."Conway stated with a smirk. "Lumineon lives in the ocean's depths. It lures pokemon by flashing light in the patterns on its tail fins."
Lumineon jumped into the water.
"So it was Lumineon's light that we were seeing."Brock said.
"It's strange, a Lumineon shouldn't be in a place like this."Conway admitted.
"Yeah, your right."Ash agreed.
"Shinx."
The heroes notice a hypnotised Shinx coming out from a rock.
"Shinx!"Angie shouted and rushed forward. "Pull yourself together, Shinx!"
Shinx blinked. "Shinx?"
Angie happily hugged Shinx.
"I'm so glad your okay!"Angie commented.
"Now that we found Shinx, we can breath again."Ash said.
"And we know where the light is coming from too."Dawn added.
"Your right, but we all have no idea why Lumineon is here."Brock admitted. "If we could get to the bottom of that, think of a great report we could do."
"Your right."Ash remarked.
"It would totally be an A+."Denise agreed.
"What a great idea."Angie complemented.
"Let's do it."Dawn chuckled.
"I would like to be a part of this as well."Conway responded smugly.
"Hold on a minute!"
The heroes turned around and saw Jessilinda.
It appears that I finally found a Pokémon that matches with me!" Jessilinda giggled as she crossed her arms in a proud manner.
"I know you! You're Jessilinda!"Conway said. "The leader of the Green Team!"
"That's Miss Jessilinda, buster!"Jessilinda snapped. "Now that Lumineon perfect for someone that is beautiful, elegant and refined like myself! And luring in all kinds of pokemon doesn't exactly hurt either I'll catch it, then observe it and write a report on it! You can all just go find something else!"
Ash, Dawn and Denise glared at Jessilinda.
"Don't you remember that it's against the rules to catch a pokemon!?"Ash questioned.
"Of course, Professor Rowan said so!"Dawn reminded.
"Talk is cheap, young lady."Jessilinda remarked. "I get whatever I want to get. That's my rule."
Dawn looked at Brock.
"You know, Brock."Dawn said with a frown. "That sounds like a Team Rocket line!"
"Hold on!"Angie protested. "We found that Lumineon first and you know it!"
"Yeah old lady, this Lumineon doesn't belong to your or anyone!"Denise snapped. "So get out of here!"
"I am not old lady, loser!"Jessilinda growled and took out a pokeball. "Yanmega, let's go!"
Her pokeball opened and Yanmega came out.
"Yanmega!"
Vaporeon stepped forward, ready to fight.
"Alright, let's see what you got!"Denise retorted.
"With pleasure, Yanmega use Sonic Boom!"Jessilinda ordered.
Yanmega fired Psybeam.
"Vaporeon, dodge and use Shadow Ball!"Denise ordered.
Vaporeon dodged Yanmega's Sonic Boom and fired Shadow Ball at the bug type pokemon.
"Vaporeon is strong as ever!"Ash remarked.
"Thanks for noticing, Ash."Denise replied while blushing. "Now use Water Gun!"
Vaporeon fired Water Gun at Yanmega.
"Don't take it from a twerpette!"Jessilinda argued. "Use Steel Wing!"
Yanmega charged towards Vaporeon.
"Dodge it gracefully!"Denise ordered.
Vaporeon dodged Yanmega like she was dancing.
"I am too cute for this!"Jessilinda complained.
"Let's finish this!"Denise admitted. "Vaporeon use Aurora Beam!"
Vaporeon used Aurora Beam to hit Yanmega causing the bug type and Jessie to be tossed out of the cave.
Denise hugged Vaporeon.
"Well done, Vaporeon."Denise remarked. "You taught that old lady who's boss."
Vaporeon smiled and blushed shyly.
"She's probably just up and embarrassed by now."Dawn chuckled.
"So let's observe the Lumineon."Ash suggested.
"Right!"Brock, Angie, Dawn and Denise answered in unison.
But when the group checked the water, they notice Lumineon was no where to be seen.
"What?"Angie questioned in disbelief. "The Lumineon is gone!"
"It may have gotten scared from all the noise and hid underwater."Dawn admitted.
"Okay, Buizel!"Ash said.
His pokeball opened and Buizel came out.
"Will you help us look for the Lumineon?"Ash asked.
Buizel gave his trainer a nod.
"Remember to look for the blue light."Denise reminded.
"We know that, Dennie."Ash responded and looked Buizel. "Let's go!"
Ash and Buizel head underwater to search for Lumineon while Brock discovered that the Lumineon had been eating some algae on the rocks in the cave.
"What's this?"Brock questioned.
Ash and Buizel returned to the surface.
"Did you find anything?"Dawn asked.
"Nope, Lumineon is gone."Ash answered. "But we did see a tunnel at the bottom of the lake, it may have used that..."
"A tunnel?"Angie said.
"That's it."Brock stated. "I would think that the tunnel would be connected to the ocean, you know?"
"That sounds like a logical assumption to me, Brock."Conway replied.
"So maybe the Lumineon uses the tunnel to travel here from wherever it's living."Brock said.
"But how come the Lumineon wanted to come here?"Denise asked.
"Look at this."Brock answered gesturing to the rocks. "This seaweed is a favourite of water type pokemon and it looks like a lot of them has been eaten. The thing is I don't see a trace of any other pokemon here, so the Lumineon must be the one eating it all."
"Wow, excellent detective work."Conway complemented.
"You figured that out just by looking."Angie stated.
Ash and Buizel smiled.
"Of course."Ash chuckled. "Anybody who is aiming for a top pokemon breeder has to be smart."
"Awesome."Angie remarked.
"It sounds like that we would all give a great report."Dawn stated.
"Yeah."Ash, Angie and Denise agreed.
"And don't forget that my transcribing offer still stands."Conway reminded smugly.
"Maybe that would be just fine."Dawn said with a small smile.
When the heroes went out the cave, they saw the weather was bright and sunny.
"Well, looks like the rain stopped."Ash commented.
"Hey, check it out."Denise stated.
The group notice a rainbow in the sky.
"Wow, what a gorgeous rainbow."Angie admitted.
"Great, let's all head back."Ash requested.
Ash, Denise, Angie, Dawn and Brock started heading back to the academy.
"Huh, not a sad face to be seen."Conway laughed.
Afterwards...
The group returned to the class to present a report on Lumineon.
"And so the Lumineon travels to the cave, using an underwater tunnel that makes its way towards it's home, the ocean."Angie admitted.
"Then it flashes a light with it's four fins."Dawn said.
"And that powerful blue light has the ability to lure other pokemon right to it."Ash commented.
"This is true since we saw Pikachu, Vaporeon, Piplup and Shinx being lured by it's light."Denise complemented.
"And so with that, we can conclude that the Lumineon travels through the cave in order to eat the seaweed, which is proven that water type pokemon loves to eat."Brock stated.
"And with that, we conclude our report!"Dawn remarked.
Professor Rowan, Yuzo and the other groups clapped at the heroes including Conway and Amy.
"Hm an exceptional report, indeed."Professor Rowan admitted. "I give you all five of you ten points."
"Alright!"Brock, Ash, Denise, Angie and Dawn cheered.
"However, you all left the lake without permission."Professor Rowan added. "Do you have any idea on how worried we were about you?"
The group stared at Professor Rowan in surprise.
"For breaking the rules, we will subtract four points from each of you, leaving you with earning six points."Yuzo said.
"Thank you."Brock, Ash, Denise, Angie and Dawn answered while sweat dropping.
Jessilinda stood up with a proud smirk on her face.
"Of course, this is a good lesson for you kids."Jessilinda chuckled. "Now you do know that you can't do everything that you want."
"Excuse since you left the lake too, you lose four points as well."Yuzo stated.
Jessilinda sweat dropped at Yuzo's respond before glaring at two boys.
"Once again, you two proven yourselves that you aren't good enough at all!"Jessilinda snapped angrily.
"Sorry, Miss Jessilinda."the two boys apologised in shame.
Yuzo looked at Conway.
"Conway, I'm afraid that you will be losing 4 of your points too."Yuzo admitted.
"Hey, that's less than I expected."Conway remarked.
"Hm, so the Lumineon is back, eh?"Professor Rowan asked and looked at a mountain. "A little early this year."
Later that Evening...
The students were cleaning the classrooms.
"We got a perfect score, but we still got four points taken off."Ash said.
"Well, at least we got to see Lumineon, Ash."Denise reminded.
"Denise is right, look at the bright side."Angie agreed.
"It was so beautiful, I couldn't believe it."Dawn remarked.
"True."Brock answered.
"Yeah, your right."Ash commented with a smile.
"Pika pika."Pikachu replied.
"Vaporeon."Vaporeon said gently.
Ash and Denise looked out the window to watch the setting sun.
"I hope we get to see Lumineon again."Ash stated.
"I'm sure we would."Denise giggled kindly.
