Pokemon: Friends to the End
Chapter 90: Ghoul Daze!
It was another day for Ash and his friends at the Pokemon Summer Academy.
Their third lesson was on how to correctly approach Ghost-type Pokemon, when ever and where ever they encounter them.
"This is Principal Rowan!"Professor Rowan announced on the megaphone speaker. "Today's activity will deal with the proper way to interact with ghost type pokemon!"
This caused the students to look at each other.
"The goal of this program is to ensure that you will be able to correctly approach ghost pokemon, whenever or whenever you encounter them!"Professor Rowan explained. "Of course, your instructor will you fill in all the details!"
"And now let's go over our rules."Yuzo stated. "After each of you teams up with a fellow classmate, you will both go together to retrieve this medal at the Summit of Ruins. Your final score will be based on how long it takes you. The event begins tonight at seven sharp. So for now your job is to find a partner."
"It sounds to me like a test of courage."Brock complemented.
"Yeah, I get it."Dawn remarked with a smirk.
Ash looked at Pikachu.
"Okay Pikachu, are you ready for this?"Ash asked.
"Pika pikachu."Pikachu replied excitedly.
"Of course, doing a test wouldn't hurt isn't Luxio?"Denise said with a smile.
Luxio smirked. "Luxio."
Outside...
Each of the students were looking for a partner to team up with.
Denise checked on a paper that showed the instructions and looked at the other students.
"Let's see, who should I pair up with?"Denise questioned.
Ash walked up to Denise.
"Dennie, do you have a partner?"Ash asked.
"I'm afraid not."Denise responded.
"How about you and I team up?"Ash suggested with a smile.
Denise gasped and blushed at Ash's request.
Amy smirked at Ash and Denise while leaning against a tree.
"Not a surprise that those two would pair up."Amy teased in amusement.
Angie walked up to Amy with her Shinx.
"Hey Amy, how about you and I team up?"Angie requested. "We'll mop the floors with every last one of those guys."
"Sure, I guess that would fine."Amy replied simply.
Mitchell walked up to Brock, who was checking on the list.
"Uh Brock?"Mitchell said.
"What's up, Mitchell?"Brock asked.
"Well, you see the thing is, I'm kind of scared in the dark, so I was wondering if you would be my partner."Mitchell said hopefully.
"Sure."Brock replied with a smile. "Of course, Mitchell."
"That's great, Brock."Mitchell remarked. "Thanks so much."
Dawn was surprised that her twin sister and friends already found a partner.
"What you guys have partners already?"Dawn asked in surprise.
"Yeah."Ash responded.
"It's just happened that way."Brock said.
"So who is your partner, Dennie?"Dawn asked.
"Umm...Ash is."Denise admitted shyly.
"I see, but who is left for me then?"Dawn questioned.
A figure appeared behind Dawn.
"Weird that feeling."Dawn said. "A feeling that something really gross is standing right behind me."
"Hey there, Dawn."Kendall greeted.
"Hi Kendall."Dawn answered.
"Do you have any idea what these muscles are for?"Kendall bragged as he showed off his biceps and muscles. "They are for protecting you against any of those scary ghost pokemon. Come on, isn't that an offer you can't refuse."
Ash and Brock had speechless expressions on their faces while Denise sweat drop.
"What choice do I have?"Dawn sighed and looked around. "Everyone already has a partner. It's a deal, you and those muscles."
Later that Day...
The sun went down and it was time for the students to meet up in the starting line.
"Alright, the red team will be departing at this red gate, but the blue and green teams will be leaving from different locations."Yuzo explained. "However rest assured that all the paths are the same distance from the ruins."
"Alright first team, please get on your marks."James instructed while looking at a paper.
"Right!"Ash and Denise said in unison.
Pikachu and Luxio stood next to each other.
"Pika."Pikachu replied.
"Luxio."Luxio responded.
"That number one spot will be ours."Ash commented.
"You bet, Ash."Denise agreed.
The time 7:00pm appeared on Yuzo's watch.
"Begin!"Yuzo ordered.
Pikachu and Luxio started to run into the forest followed by Ash and Denise.
"Don't forget, you still have to beat me Ash!"Angie reminded.
"I know!"Ash called out.
"You do realise Ash is in the same team as us, Angie?"Amy questioned.
"I know, but Ash and I are rivals too."Angie commented.
In the Forest...
Ash and Denise took out their torches since it was getting a bit dark.
A small blush crept up on Denise's face.
"Whoa, Ash and I are walking together."Denise thought with shy smile. "It's almost like we're out on a date."
"There is something creepy about this place."Ash said.
Denise snapped out of her thoughts and looked at the area they were in.
"I guess it is."Denise agreed.
"If you get scared I'll keep you safe, Dennie."Ash assured.
"Thanks."Denise responded. "Same goes with you and try not to run away."
A Haunter grabbed Luxio's tail with his hand causing Pikachu to attack the ghost type with electricity.
The Spark Pokemon growled angrily at the figures in the bushes.
"Pikachu, what's wrong?"Ash asked.
"Pika pika pikachu!"Pikachu replied.
"Lux!"Luxio snapped.
"Next to the bushes?"Denise said.
Ash and Denise followed their pokemon's gaze and saw a Gastly, a Haunter and a Gengar behind the bushes.
"It's just some ghost pokemon."Ash stated. "I'm really sorry my Pikachu attacked you like that."
Luxio prepared to use Night Slash.
"Whoa, whoa, Luxio!"Denise protested. "It's alright, they don't mean to harm us."
"Luxio."Luxio muttered and deactivated Night Slash.
"Pikachu, next time why don't you count to ten?"Ash suggested.
"Pikachu."Pikachu answered sadly.
"I get it, you were only trying to protect Luxio."Denise commented and looked at Ash. "No wonder, Pikachu attacked Haunter."
"I guess your right, Dennie."Ash responded.
"Let's keep going onward."Denise remarked.
Ash nodded. "Right."
Ash, Denise, Pikachu and Luxio walked away from the ghost pokemon.
Back in the Starting Line...
It was Brock and Mitchell's turn to go to the red gate.
"Alright, the next duo may proceed."James insisted.
"That's us time to move out."Brock said.
"You'll keep an eye out for me won't you, Brock?"Mitchell asked worriedly.
"Of course I will."Brock assured with a smile.
"Get set, go!"Yuzo ordered.
Brock and Mitchell ran into the forest.
Dawn looked at Piplup.
"We'll be on our way before we know it too."Dawn remarked.
"Piplup."Piplup replied.
Dawn notice Kendall was shivering in fear.
"Hey what's wrong?"Dawn asked.
"Me? It's nothing."Kendall lied with a nervous smile.
"Looks like your partner is scared, Dee-Dee."Amy snickered.
"Stop calling me, Dee-Dee!"Dawn snapped angrily.
"Let's go, Amy."Angie remarked.
"Okay."Amy answered with a smile.
"Get set, go!"Yuzo ordered.
Amy, Angie, Monferno and Shinx headed into the forest.
Meanwhile...
Brock and Mitchell walked into the road that Ash and Denise passed while holding torches.
Then Gastly, Haunter and Gengar jumped out of the bushes.
"Save me, Brock!"Mitchell cried out.
"Relax, I got just the thing."Brock assured and took out some pokemon food. "Hey fellas, check it out. You've gotta love this. I made it just for you. Super special ghost pokemon food."
Brock gives the Ghost Pokemon some food and they started eating it.
"Wow."Mitchell remarked. "Your a genius, Brock."
"Okay, shall we move out?"Brock suggested.
"Right behind ya."Mitchell assured.
Brock and Mitchell walked away from the ghost pokemon.
Angie and Amy walked into a road together.
As they continued walking, the two girls and their pokemon started hearing eating sounds.
"Hey, what's that sound?"Angie asked.
Monferno sniffed the air and pointed ahead on the road.
"Monferno!"Monferno replied. "Mon!"
"Huh?"Amy said. "Right here?"
Angie, Amy and Shinx walked forward, only to see Gastly, Haunter and Gengar eating pokemon food.
"Whoa, Gastly and it's evolved forms."Angie commented with a smile.
"I'm going to try and catch that Haunter."Amy suggested confidently.
"Amy, we are not allowed to catch any of the pokemon remember?"Angie reminded.
Amy frowned. "I forgot about that."
Then a scream rang out and Angie, Amy, Shinx and Monferno notice Kendall running away in fright.
"Kendall, hold on!"Dawn protested. "It's just a group of ghost pokemon eating some food that's all!"
Angie, Amy, Shinx and Monferno sweat dropped.
"I knew he was just a scaredy-cat."Amy said in disproval.
"Hey Dawn, since Kendall ran off, you can stay with us."Angie stated.
"Thanks Angie."Dawn replied before seeing Conway walking with no partner. "Hey is that Conway?"
Angie and Amy notice Conway walking by himself.
"Hey, it is Conway."Amy said.
"And by himself?"Angie asked in confusion.
"No, partner?"Dawn responded. "Wonder what's that all about."
"Let's find out."Amy suggested.
Dawn and Angie nodded at Amy.
Dawn, Amy and Angie went to investigate just as Conway was coaxed towards a cliff by a ghostly girl.
Conway was about to walk off the cliff when a Dusknoir grabbed his arm, waking him from his daze.
Though safe, Conway fainted at Dusknoir's appearance.
"Conway!"Dawn called out. "Come back!"
Dawn, Amy and Angie stumbled upon Conway on the ground with Dusknoir ominously overhead.
A horrified look grew on Amy's face.
"What is that?!"Angie asked nervously.
"Alright, what did you do to Conway?!"Dawn demanded.
"Piplup piplup piplup!"Piplup snapped.
Dusknoir moved his hands at the trainers before disappearing.
"It just vanished."Amy said in surprise.
"Monferno."Monferno replied.
Dawn, Amy, Angie, Piplup, Monferno and Shinx rushed up to Conway.
"Conway, wake up please!"Dawn protested.
"Come on!"Amy retorted.
Conway opened his eyes and looked up.
"What was that?"Conway asked. "Do you know?"
"Let's see."Dawn said and took out her pokedex.
"Dusknoir the Gripper Pokemon."Dawn's Pokedex said. "It receives electrical waves from the spirit worldwith its antenna and is said to take people to the spirit world as well."
"A few more steps and I'm afraid I would've ended up in the spirit world too."Conway commented.
"Yeah that was a close one."Dawn admitted.
"Where did she go?"Conway asked and looked around. "The girl I partnered with?"
"What are you talking about?"Angie questioned.
"Conway, you were by yourself."Amy stated.
"That can't be."Conway denied. "I was just following her."
"You guys don't think Dusknoir took her to the spirit world?"Dawn said worriedly.
"Than we have a big problem!"Conway panicked.
Nervous looks grew on Piplup, Monferno and Shinx's faces.
"Piplup."Piplup whispered.
"Monferno."Monferno mumbled.
"Shinx."Shinx whimpered.
Meanwhile...
Ash and Denise continued walking together with Pikachu and Luxio leading the way.
The four then heard a noise causing them to stop walking.
"Did you hear that?"Denise asked.
"It's properly nothing."Ash answered.
"I hope your right."Denise commented.
Then Ash, Denise, Pikachu and Luxio proceeded to walk to the ruins.
At the Other Road...
Jessilinda runs past Brock and Mitchell with her partner behind her carrying Meowth.
"It's here!"Jessilinda cried. "Somebody save me!"
"Wait, Miss Jessilinda!"the boy with glasses protested. "I can't keep up!"
"Brock, what is she talking about?"Mitchell asked.
"It."Brock answered. "I wonder what it is."
Brock and Mitchell get approached by Dusknoir.
"Brick, I'm scared."Mitchell said nervously.
"I still have some ghost pokemon, don't worry."Brock assured and showed the food to Dusknoir. "Here."
Brock tried offering some food to the Dusknoir, but the Dusknoir rejected the food and uses Will-O-Wisp at them.
Brock and Mitchell started running away.
"In that case, we better go!"Brock protested.
After Brock and Mitchell were out of sight, Dusknoir spotted the ghost girl in the bushes nearby.
At the top of the Forest...
Ash and Denise were getting close to the Summit Ruins.
"We're almost to the Summit Ruins."Ash commented.
"That's good."Denise admitted. "The sooner we get there, the sooner we can leave."
Suddenly there was a creepy noise which caused Luxio to get alarmed.
"Pika?"Pikachu said.
"Denise, do you hear that?"Ash asked.
"Yeah."Denise replied.
"It's sounds like it's coming from that rock."Ash commented.
"It could be one of those ghost pokemon from before."Denise suggested.
"Misdreavus!"
A Misdreavus appeared out of the rock causing Ash and Denise to freak out.
"It's a Misdreavus!"Ash gasped.
Misdreavus uses Screech at the two trainers and their pokemon.
This caused Ash, Denise, Pikachu and Luxio to run away from the Screech Pokemon.
Once they were away from Misdreavus screeching, Ash and Denise panted in relief.
Ash sighed. "Man that was close."
Denise stood up and looked around.
"Umm...Ash."Denise said.
"Yeah?"Ash asked.
"I have a feeling that we might be lost."Denise responded with a hint of worry.
Ash, Denise, Pikachu and Luxio all the sudden hear a giggling sound and saw a little girl waving her hand to them.
"Over here."the little girl gestured.
"Is that way?"Ash asked with a smile.
"Wow, thank you."Denise complemented.
"Let's follow her, Dennie."Ash suggested.
"Right."Denise replied.
Ash, Denise, Pikachu and Luxio began following the little girl to the Summit Ruins.
Back at the Academy...
All the students and Jessilinda told Professor Rowan that they saw Dusknoir.
"Hmm...that's rather strange."Professor Rowan said. "We monitored every pokemon within this area. But, for some reason, we don't have any records of a Dusknoir dwelling here. It's no sense for a forest dwelling Dusknoir to be a place like this in the first place."
Dawn looked at Brock.
"What do you think that Dusknoir is doing here?"Dawn asked.
"However an accident did take place the other day."Professor Rowan admitted. "When were doing some elevation. We discovered a cave deep within the stone wall and there are some that believe it could be the legendary entrance to the spirit world."
This caused Brock, Dawn, Amy, Angie to become shocked.
"Entrance to the spirit world?!"Brock, Dawn and Angie said in unison.
"Right."Professor Rowan responded. "The pokedex states that Dusknoir will take people to the spirit world and in fact thats where the Dusknoir comes from. But it's possible Dusknoir is trying to take someone to the spirit world back with it."
"That's really scary."Amy said and shivered in fright.
"I have a belief that it may have abducted a girl."Conway stated.
Professor Rowan became quiet and closed his eyes.
Meanwhile...
Ash, Denise, Pikachu and Luxio arrived to the Summit Ruins with the little girl.
"We finally made it."Ash said.
"And we're the first ones here."Denise chuckled.
"Pikachu."Pikachu replied.
"Luxio."Luxio commented.
Ash and Denise notice the medals on top of a large stone.
"Whoa, the medals."Ash remarked.
"We found them."Denise complemented.
Ash picked up a medal and held it up.
"Yeah! We found the Summit Ruins medal first!"Ash cheered. "I've got the Summit Ruins medal!"
"Cool pose."Denise stated.
"Let's try it together."Ash admitted.
"Alright."Denise responded with a shy smile.
Denise and Ash held the medal together.
"Yeah! We found the Summit Ruins medal first!"Ash and Denise said in unison. "We've got the Summit Ruins medal!"
"Pikachu!"Pikachu cheered.
"Luxio!"Luxio chuckled.
"We're all set."Ash replied.
"Let's get back to the academy."Denise suggested.
The ghost girl giggled as she floated all the way to the cave.
"This way."the little girl gestured.
"Is there someone in there?"Ash asked.
"Yeah, let's go together."the little girl said as she moved her hand about.
Ash, Denise, Pikachu and Luxio began approaching the little girl.
Denise narrowed her eyes in suspicion.
"Why do I have a bad feeling about this?"Denise thought.
Suddenly Dusknoir appeared in front of the two trainers and the little girl.
"Hey, check it out!"Ash said.
"A Dusknoir!"Denise admitted with a frown.
Luxio and Pikachu rushed forward and stood in fighting stances.
Dusknoir uses Psychic to pin Luxio and Pikachu on the ground.
"Pikachu, no!"Ash shouted.
"Dusknoir just used Psychic!"Denise said in surprise.
Dusknoir prepared to attack the little girl with Shadow Ball.
Denise gasped. "The little girl!"
"Stop it!"Ash snapped.
Dusknoir used Psychic to pin Denise and Ash on the ground as well.
Luxio and Pikachu tried to stand up and the Psychic effect immediately went off.
"Pikachu, Volt Tackle!"Ash ordered.
"Use Ice Fang, Luxio!"Denise ordered.
Luxio and Pikachu used their attacks on Dusknoir causing the Gripper Pokemon to hit the ground.
A dark smile grew on the little girl's face.
"Alright!"Ash chuckled.
"Your safe now, kid."Denise assured.
"Come on, this way."the little girl whispered. "Let's play."
"Hey, there is no time to play!"Ash reminded.
"Ash, there is something wrong with that little girl."Denise stated with a frown.
"What do you mean, Dennie?"Ash asked in confusion.
"Let's play together."the little girl requested. "I want all of you to come with me."
The little girl gave a creepy giggle as she activated the spirit portal to suck the trainers and their pokemon into it.
Denise got pulled into the air but gets caught by Ash, who holds onto her.
"Denise!"Ash shouted.
"Ash!"Denise called out.
Pikachu and Luxio grabbed Ash in order to prevent him and Denise from getting sucked into the portal.
"Dennie, don't let go of my hand!"Ash instructed.
"I'm trying not to!"Denise replied.
"Come on, play with me."the little girl said with a creepy smile.
Ash was struggling to hold onto the large stone with his other hand.
"Ash, it's no use!"Denise cried. "Just let me go! If you don't, you'll end up into the spirit world too!"
"No way!"Ash answered firmly. "I'll never give up! Even if that means forever!"
A amazed look appeared on Denise's face.
"Ash."Denise whispered.
Professor Rowan and the others arrived to the ruins.
"Over there!"Professor Rowan said.
Brock, Dawn, Amy and Angie saw Ash holding Denise's wrist in order to prevent her from being sucked into the portal.
"Ash!"Angie called out. "Denise!"
"Is that the spirit world entrance?!"Yuzo asked in shock.
"I think that something is trying to pull them in there!"Brock responded.
"We've got to do something!"Dawn protested.
"Stop! Don't get closer either of you!"Professor Rowan ordered.
"But what about them?!"Amy questioned.
"Let's play."the little girl replied evilly. "Hurry up!"
Then Dusknoir gets up and grabbed Ash, Denise, Pikachu and Luxio before sticking it's tail into the ground to keep from getting sucked into the portal.
Pikachu and Luxio stared at Dusknoir with surprised looks.
"What are you doing?"Ash asked.
"Dusknoir, you were trying to save us."Denise said.
"Well, it seems seems that Dusknoir is protecting them."Professor Rowan responded.
"No way."Angie commented.
Suddenly the portal started to drag Dusknoir, Ash and Denise closer with Dusknoir's tail moving through the dirt.
"It can't end like this!"Denise shouted.
But then Dusknoir turned around and blasted the ghost girl, collapsing the cave entrance.
"Just a little bit longer and we would've end up in the spirit world forever."Ash complemented.
"Dusknoir, we're so sorry."Denise apologised. "You were trying to look out for us all along."
Dusknoir nodded in respond.
"Thank you."Denise admitted kindly.
"Yeah, your awesome after all."Ash agreed.
Dusknoir floated up as the others went up to Ash and Denise.
"Dusknoir, where are you going?"Ash asked.
Dusknoir disappeared in the sky.
Denise looked at Professor Rowan.
"Professor Rowan is that really the entrance to the spirit world?"Denise questioned.
"We are not exactly sure."Professor Rowan answered. "But it's obvious that Dusknoir is interested in guarding it. The fact is scientists have a long way to go before we truly understand our world."
"Does that mean the girl I partnered with wasn't from the academy?"Conway asked.
"To tell you the truth, I doubt that girl was even from this world."the female assistant admitted.
"That means you were partnered with a ghost."Dawn said nervously.
"I was partnered with a ghost."Conway repeated and grew startled. "I was partnered with a ghost!"
The Next Morning...
Professor Rowan awards each team 30 points for a job well done.
None of the teams gained an advantage and the Blue Team leads by 260 to the Red Team's 220.
"We had a busy night, but you all performed admirably."Professor Rowan stated. "So I've decided to give each team thirty points."
"Now what kind of community triple is that?"Jessilinda complained.
"So that means we still stay in second place."Brock said with a smile.
"I was expecting us to be first."Amy muttered.
"Well for the Blue Team is definitely alone up there."Conway chuckled.
Ash looked at his companions.
"Listen up!"Ash ordered confidently. "Okay Red Team, let's get on this and turn the tables around!"
"Pikachu!"Pikachu cheered.
Denise, Dawn, Brock, Amy, Angie and the other students of the red team cheered.
