Pokemon: Friends to the End
Chapter 91: One Team, Two Team, Red Team, Blue Team!
Professor Rowan tells the students that the last event will be the Pokemon Triathlon.
"Students, it is my honour to announce our final activity of the Pokemon Summer Academy without a doubt, it's our biggest program, the Pokemon Triathlon."Professor Rowan announced on the megaphone speaker. "The things that you've all learned this week will be your key role."
"The starting line is here at the Academy as everyone will begin simultaneously. We have prepared a pokeball for each one of you."Yuzo explained. "But you'll have no idea what pokemon, it'll contain in ahead of time."
"Like we did in the first."Ash said.
"Pika."Pikachu responded.
"So we work with whatever pokemon pops out."Dawn complemented.
"Piplup."Piplup chirped.
Denise and Kirlia looked at each other.
"That won't be much of a problem."Denise replied with a smile.
Kirlia nodded. "Kirlia."
"You and your pokemon will wind your way towards the forest and head towards this lake."Yuzo stated.
"Excuse me."Brock said. "Is that where we get our next pokemon?"
"Right, you'll be using a water type pokemon to cross the lake and then after that..."Yuzo started.
"Then it's marathon time!"Angie remarked.
"Shinx shinx!"Shinx agreed.
Yuzo used the board to show the students how the race will be.
"From this point, each team will make it back here towards the finish line."Yuzo admitted. "Also it's quite important to remember that under no circumstances should you attack or battle with any other teams."
Yuzo began telling the points that each team had.
"First place earns fifty points, second place will earns thirty points and third place will earn twenty points."Yuzo said. "And finally, all of our remaining teams will earn ten points apiece. Some good news for the red team, the overall point total will be calculated using the points earned by all the red team players."
"Nice."Amy responded with a smirk. "So that means if we do well, we beat the blue team."
"Monferno!"Monferno remarked.
Ash stood up with a confident smile.
"Great!"Ash chuckled. "We're going to show them!"
"Pikachu!"Pikachu cheered in agreement.
Outside...
Ash began talking to Dawn, Brock, Denise, Amy and Angie about how he will win.
"Those fifty points are all going to be mine."Ash said confidently and looked at Pikachu. "Pikachu, ready to go?"
"Pikachu."Pikachu answered.
"It's good to be good to be pumped up."Angie commented smugly. "But keep up the hot air and you'll pass out. For your information Ash, the pokemon summer triathlon is a lot more complicated than you think."
"Go ahead and say whatever you want!"Ash retorted. "I'm going to get first place!"
"No that'll be me!"Angie argued. "You're better off aiming for second!"
"You've got it backwards!"Ash snapped.
"I don't think so!"Angie scowled.
Ash and Angie glared at each other.
Denise went in front of Ash and Angie in anger.
"You two, knock it off!"Denise demanded angrily. "Your arguments are giving me nothing but a headache!"
"Relax, you two."Brock instructed with a smile. "No matter which one finishes first, it's the same points if the other comes in second."
"You know your right."Ash responded and looked at Angie. "So may the first guy wins."
Ash extend his hand for a handshake causing Angie to blush a little.
"Umm...well..."Angie started.
"What's wrong with you?"Ash asked.
"Nothing! I'm fine!"Angie snapped and looked at Shinx. "Come on, let's go!"
Angie and Shinx run off.
"What got into her?"Ash asked with his arms folded.
"It sounds kind of complicated."Amy said with a smug smirk.
"Still something doesn't seem right."Dawn added.
Conway crept up behind Dawn.
"Well Dawn, it's almost time."
"Conway!"Dawn said with a startled look.
"You see I've been spending time analyzing every last bit of data I could collect from you throughout the week."Conway admitted with a creepy smile.
This caused Brock, Ash and Brock to become concern.
"And I have come to the conclusion that you're going to be my most formidable rival in the pokemon triathlon."Conway stated.
"Your rival?"Dawn asked in surprise.
"That's right, Dawn."Conway replied with a smirk. "I got you marked, see? Sounds exciting, huh?"
"Whoa, what's up with guy?"Dawn asked.
"His creepy, if you ask me."Denise commented.
"Yeah."Brock, Ash and Amy agreed.
Pikachu, Piplup, Kirlia and Monferno nodded in agreement.
"I can just feel the excitement building from everyone."
The group turned around and saw Professor Rowan walking forward with Nurse Joy and Chansey.
"Hi, Professor Rowan."Ash greeted.
"Hi, Nurse Joy."Dawn said. "Why are you here?"
"It's my job to make sure all of your pokemon are strong and healthy."Nurse Joy explained. "So remember if anything goes wrong during the triathlon, I'll be right here."
"Chansey chansey."Chansey responded gently.
"Just the thought of a lovely lady in waiting, wow!"Brock flirted. "My blood pressure is rising and my heart's pounding a mile a minute, which can only mean one thing!"
Brock went up to Nurse Joy.
"I need immediate medical attention!"Brock admitted.
Croagunk poison jabs Brock and the breeder dropped on the ground.
"Why do I keep doing this?"Brock muttered in pain.
"What's up with him?"Amy questioned.
"When it comes to pretty girls, Brock is always flirting."Denise stated.
Amy sweat dropped. "Too bad, I have older sisters that are single."
Afterwards...
Dawn, Denise and Angie decided to return Piplup and Shinx into their pokeballs since the race was going to start.
"Until the marathon starts, why don't you have a nice break?"Dawn requested.
"Piplup."Piplup said.
"Yeah, good idea."Angie agreed and looked at Shinx. "Same for you, Shinx."
"Enjoy your rest, Kirlia."Denise commented.
Kirlia smiled. "Kirlia."
Dawn, Denise and Angie returned Piplup, Kirlia and Shinx into their pokeballs.
"Alright, let's put this Pokemon Triathlon into good motion!"Professor Rowan announced. "Everyone, on your marks..."
All the students got ready to run.
"Hold on tight, buddy."Ash instructed.
"Pika."Pikachu replied.
"Get set...go!"Professor Rowan shouted and fired his pistol.
All the students started running and Jessilinda quickly takes the lead.
"Make way for the fastest speed in foot racing, it's Jessilinda!"Jessilinda cheered. "Yahoo!"
Jessilinda arrived at the checkpoint and picked up a pokeball.
"My swift speed comes from my heart that's pure!"Jessilinda giggled. "Now my reward!"
The pokeball opened and a Hippowdon appeared.
"Hippowdon!"
"Sorry bad choice, take a hike."Jessilinda said rudely and looked at the other pokeballs. "I'll just hand this Hippowdon for something slicker and fast."
The aide blew his whistle.
"The exchanging of pokeballs is against the rules."the Aide reminded.
"Oopsie."Jessilinda responded.
Ash and the others reached the checkpoint.
Ash, Dawn, Denise, Brock, Amy and Angie receive Spoink, Dodrio, Lopunny, Onix, Rapidash and Ariados respectively.
"Wow, I got a Dodrio."Dawn remarked.
"I got a Lopunny."Denise chuckled.
"Check out my Spoink."Ash suggested.
"Onix looks strong."Brock commented.
"So does my Ariados."Angie added.
"My Rapidash is so beautiful."Amy said with her eyes sparkling.
Ash, Dawn, Denise, Brock, Amy and Angie began riding on their chosen pokemon and began the first leg.
"Yeah, Giddy up!"Ash cheered.
"Let's move it!"Dawn said.
"Stop! Hold on!"Jessilinda protested and went on Hippowdon. "It's you and me, tiny. Alright Hippowdon, catch up to the crew!"
Hippowdon started digging into the ground shocking Jessilinda.
Yuzo and an assistant flew on a hot air balloon to check on the race.
"Alright, it's the last day of the Pokemon Summer Academy and everything is on the line!"Yuzo announced. "They're off on the Pokemon Triathlon!"
Back at the School...
Rowan and Nurse Joy watched the race on the small TV.
"With that kind of enthusiasm, the outcome could be anyone."Professor Rowan admitted.
"Well, I just hope that no one ends up getting hurt."Nurse Joy replied and looked at Chansey. "Right, Chansey?"
"Chansey."Chansey agreed.
At the Race...
Dawn and Denise had taken the lead with Ash closely following.
"That's it, Dodrio!"Dawn encouraged. "Keep it like that!"
"Come on, Lopunny!"Denise remarked. "We can do it!"
"Dawn, Dennie, hold up!"Ash protested.
Suddenly Angie and Ariados used String Shot to propel themselves into first.
"Eat my dust!"Angie chuckled.
Amy and her Rapidash rode passed the four heroes.
"So long, slowpokes!"Amy laughed evilly.
Dawn, Denise, Ash and Brock frowned at the two girls causing their pokemon to follow after them quickly.
"It looks like Angie and Amy have taken the lead with the help of Ariados and Rapidash!"Yuzo announced.
At the School...
"Both Angie and Amy are making the most of it with Ariados and Rapidash's skills."Nurse Joy admitted.
"It's the main objective of the Pokemon Summer Academy."Professor Rowan said firmly. "Expanding knowledge by exposing students to new pokemon."
The TV showed the other students trying to catch up with the others.
"Here comes our next group of competitors!"Yuzo stated.
Meanwhile...
The other trainers began attacking each other.
"Whoa!"Yuzo responded. "We're looking at multiple people and pokemon pile on the field!"
Conway takes advantage of the situation by pass the students on Dugtrio.
"I had a feeling that digging some holes and traveling underground was the only way to go."Conway said with a creepy look.
In a Lake...
Angie reached the second checkpoint and trades Ariados for a Lapras.
"Okay Lapras, it's all up to you now."Angie admitted.
Lapras began swimming in the lake.
Ash, Amy, Dawn, Denise and Brock arrived at the second checkpoint and returned their riding pokemon.
Ash notice Angie was riding on a Lapras in the lake.
"Now it's time to win this."Ash said with a frown.
"Pikachu!"Pikachu agreed.
Ash received a Mantyke and immediately started following after Angie.
"Winning this and grabbing this will be a piece of cake."Angie remarked with a confident smirk.
"Angie!"
Angie turned around and saw Ash and Pikachu riding on a Mantyke.
"You haven't won it yet!"Ash reminded.
"It's Ash!"Angie gasped.
"Full speed ahead, Mantyke!"Ash ordered.
Ash's Mantyke quickly passes Angie's Lapras.
"Coming through!"Ash chuckled.
"Like that is going to happen."Angie commented and looked at Lapras. "Lapras use Ice Beam now!"
Angie again takes the lead with the help of Lapras's Ice Beam.
"See you later!"Angie stated.
"Quick Mantyke, step on it!"Ash ordered.
Angie's Lapras and Ash's Mantyke continued racing each other.
Suddenly an excited laugh was heard causing Angie and Ash to notice Denise riding on a Dragonair before she passed them.
"See you guys at the finish line!"Denise laughed in amusement.
"Not on my watch, Denise!"Angie and Ash said in unison.
Dawn, Brock and Amy rode on a Feraligatr, Sharpedo and Kingdra while watching the sight.
"Wow, those three sure know how to mix it up, don't they?"Brock asked.
"Classic Neecy."Amy said with a shrug.
"Will seven can play it that game!"Dawn replied and looked at Sharpedo. "Quick, Sharpedo, let's go!"
"Sharpedo!"Sharpedo responded.
Suddenly Conway appeared riding on a Floatzel.
"It's Conway!"Dawn said.
"Guilty as charged."Conway answered with a smirk. "Well my dear, looks like I have to catch up with you later."
Dawn, Brock and Amy looked on as Conway and his Floatzel dived underwater.
"Let's get going, Kingdra."Amy said with a frown.
Amy and Kingdra started moving passed Dawn and Brock.
Yuzo appeared on his hot air balloon.
"We made it to the second part of the Triathlon, where each competitors are teamed up with the water pokemon as they cross the lake!"Yuzo announced.
The other students rode on their chosen water pokemon across the lake.
Denise took a deep breath as Dragonair brought her underwater.
Angie and Ash continued racing each other using Lapras and Mantyke.
"Go! Go! Go!"Angie and Ash ordered in unison. "Do it! Do it! Do it!"
Dragonair brought Denise to the third checkpoint.
"Thank you Dragonair, return."Denise ordered and took out the pokeball.
Denise returned Dragonair in it's pokeball and placed it in the box that contained other pokeballs.
"Come out, Kirlia!"Denise said in excitement.
Her pokeball opened and Kirlia came out.
"Kirlia!"Kirlia greeted with a curtsy.
"Kirlia, let's get going!"Denise remarked.
Kirlia nodded and started running with her trainer to head to the end.
Denise and Kirlia notice Ash, Pikachu, Angie and Shinx racing each other, but also catching up to them.
"I'm not losing to the likes of you or your girlfriend, Ash Ketchum and that's final!"Angie stated.
"Your going to be changing your mind real soon!"Ash retorted.
"Did Angie just called me, Ash's girlfriend?"Denise asked in shock.
"Kirlia."Kirlia giggled.
Behind Ash and Angie was Jessilinda and her Seviper, who were being chased by Conway and his Slowking.
"Go and pick on someone from your own planet!"Jessilinda snapped.
"Once I keep tabs on someone, I don't stop!"Conway laughed.
Denise, Ash, Angie, Jessilinda and Conway headed into the tunnel as Yuzo watched from his hot air balloon.
"And it's neck and neck battle for the number one spot as the competitor enter the tunnel!"Yuzo reported. "And who emerges from that one spot can be anybody's guess!"
Jessilinda rushed passed Denise, Ash and Angie in order to move away from Conway, who quickly ends up behind her.
"Enough of being pursued!"Jessilinda scowled. "Seviper take care of that freak with Poison Tail!"
Seviper uses Poison Tail causing Conway and his Slowking to jump out of the way.
Denise, Kirlia, Ash, Pikachu, Angie and Shinx dropped on the ground to avoid the attack.
"What is wrong with you, old lady?!"Denise questioned with a glare.
"That's against the rules so stop!"Ash demanded.
"Pika pika!"Pikachu shouted.
"Kirlia!"Kirlia snapped.
"There is nothing more disgraceful with the cave settings with clap trap!"Jessilinda replied. "Seviper point them with Bite!"
Seviper lunged forward causing Shinx to roll away towards a cliff.
"Shinx, no!"Angie called out.
Angie jumped off the cliff to get Shinx.
"Angie!"Ash and Denise shouted in unison.
Ash, Denise, Pikachu and Kirlia quickly went out of the way to avoid being hit by Seviper.
"Are you okay, Shinx?"Angie asked.
"Shinx."Shinc replied with a nod.
Jessilinda and Seviper brought their attention on Conway and Slowking.
"Seviper make you pin those pin heads."Jessilinda ordered.
Seviper move in to attack, but Conway and Slowking simply moved out of the way causing Seviper to get knocked by hitting the wall.
Jessilinda paled in shock.
"Well, I guess that settles that."Conway said with a creepy smile. "I won it along with my Blue Team. Guess my tab keeping time on you is over."
Conway and Slowking ran ahead causing Jessilinda to go after them while holding her Seviper.
"No wacko disses and then beats me!"Jessilinda growled.
Denise and Kirlia sweat dropped.
"They are such weirdos."Denise commented.
"Kirlia."Kirlia agreed with a nod.
Angie began to climb back up.
"I'll get us out of here, Shinx."Angie assured.
Angie and Shinx barely managed to stop their fall by grabbing on a ledge, but then Ash quickly grabbed Angie's hand.
Denise, Kirlia and Pikachu were holding Ash to support him.
"Just hold on, you two!"Ash protested. "You'll be just fine!"
"We can do it!"Denise assured.
Together, Denise and Ash brought Angie and Shinx to safety.
Denise, Ash and Angie sit down for a minute to catch their breath.
"Boy that was close."Denise sighed.
"Your both okay?"Ash asked.
"Yeah, we're fine."Angie replied. "Thank you, Ash and Denise."
"Shinx shinx."Shinx remarked.
"No problem, glad your fine."Ash admitted kindly.
Angie became surprised and blushed a little.
Denise and Ash stood up.
"Shall we get going?"Denise requested.
"Yeah Dennie, this isn't over it!"Ash stated confidently. "Let's turn this thing around!"
"Pika!"Pikachu responded.
"Kirlia!"Kirlia cheered.
Angie smiled and nodded in respond.
Denise, Ash and Angie left the tunnel, only to end up racing each other once again.
"I'm not going easy on you two, just because you saved me!"Angie reminded.
"We didn't think you would!"Ash replied.
"We are rivals until the end!"Denise complemented.
Meanwhile...
Professor Rowan, Yuzo and the other assistants were waiting for the competitors in the finish line.
"We're now at the finish line and in the lead, we have..."Yuzo started.
A tired Conway and Jessilinda slowly walked forward followed by Slowking and Seviper.
"Conway followed by Jessilinda!"Yuzo announced.
"Big mistake, not doing a little cardio training was pretty dumb."Conway said in exhaustion.
"Slow."Slowking muttered.
"Put some springing to your steps, Seviper."Jessilinda instructed weakly. "Come on like me."
Suddenly Denise, Ash and Angie arrived to the entrance of the academy, shocking Jessilinda and Conway.
"Look at that!"Yuzo stated. "Here comes Denise, Ash and Angie! An unexpected turn of event! The outcome of this race is still up for grabs! Never in my life have I witnessed a Triathlon like this!"
"You can do it!"Nurse Joy encouraged.
"Chansey!"Chansey giggled.
"That finish line was meant for me."Jessilinda muttered.
"Almost there..."Conway panted.
Conway and Jessilinda try to finish the race but due to their fighting, they were completely out of energy.
Denise, Ash and Angie continued racing for the finish line.
"First place is going to be mine and that's that!"Ash and Angie shouted in unison.
Denise, Ash and Angie let out cries followed by Kirlia, Pikachu and Shinx.
Ash and Pikachu end up being the winners causing Professor Rowan to wave the flag.
"We have a winner!"Yuzo announced. "We have Ash and Pikachu in first place! Coming in second is Denise and Kirlia! Then finally there is Angie and Shinx! Which means the Red Team have received the top points!"
"Yeah, we did it!"Ash cheered and punched the air.
"Pikachu!"Pikachu chuckled in victory.
Denise and Kirlia simply clapped.
"Bravo, Ash, bravo."Denise commented with a smile.
"Kirlia kirlia."Kirlia replied.
"Congratulations, Ash."Angie admitted.
"Shinx shinx."Shinx answered.
"Hey, thanks guys."Ash responded with a nod.
As Amy, Dawn, Brock and the other competitors cross the finish line, Conway and Jessilinda crawl across it and collapsed.
"The rest of the competitors are making their way in and we have the final results!"Yuzo reported. "The Red Team has overtaken the Blue Team for the victory!"
Later that Evening...
Professor Rowan was giving a speech to the students.
"So this brings our Summer Academy to an end."Professor Rowan stated. "First congratulations to the Red Team on their victory."
"And, of course, the Blue and Green Teams were wonderful too."Nurse Joy added with a smile. "And I'm extra specially overjoyed that not one student was injured!"
"Chansey chansey."Chansey said.
"So now I say my goodbye with my one wish for all of you that the friendship that you have with all pokemon deepens and that you always learn from each other."Professor Rowan stated.
"Right!"the students responded in unison.
The heroes and the other students all received plaques for being in the summer academy.
"So we all get this plaque?"Ash asked with a smile.
"Of course."Dawn responded. "Everyone who is involved in the summer academy gets one."
"Despite all the hard work of this week, it was worth it."Denise admitted proudly.
"I'm gonna remember this forever."Brock stated.
"One more thing!"Professor Rowan said. "You're all invited to the final night's bonfire!"
Later that Night...
It was the final celebration for the end of the Summer Academy.
A bonfire was lit and a buffet laid out for everyone to enjoy.
Ash walked up to Angie, who was sitting by herself.
"Angie, what's wrong?"Ash asked.
"It's all done."Angie replied. "You know over, it's the last night."
"Yeah, of course."Ash agreed.
Angie stood up as she and Ash looked at the stars.
"I must've gone to the summer academy a million times before."Angie admitted. "But this year was hands down, the best one yet!"
"I had a lot of fun too."Ash added.
"The best thing that has ever happened to me is I met you, but also you and Denise saved me."Angie commented.
"Duh, we are all friends."Ash chuckled.
"We are friends, right?"Angie asked kindly and looked down.
Ash extend his hand at Angie.
"We'll meet again, no doubt."Ash assured with a smile.
Angie nodded. "Angie."
Ash and Angie shook hands.
Denise turned her gaze away from the bonfire to look at Ash and Angie.
Then Amy walked forward and put an arm around Denise.
"Hey Neecy, what's up with Ash and Angie?"Amy asked with a smirk. "They are not arguing all the sudden."
"I don't know what your talking about, bratty."Denise answered with a frown.
"Maybe it's a beginning of a beautiful relationship between them."Amy whispered smugly.
"No, it's not."Denise argued with a hint of jealousy.
Amy looked at Ash and then at Denise.
"Does than mean you two are an item?"Amy teased.
Denise grabbed a chuckling Amy by the arm to move her away.
"That's none of your business!"Denise snapped angrily as her face turned bright red.
"Kirlia."Kirlia giggled gently while eating a pineapple slice.
