Chapter 104: Get Your Rotom Running!
In the Canalave City's Pokemon Center...
Ash and his friends call Professor Oak.
"Hello."Professor Oak greeted with a smile. "Where does the time flies? So how are you all doing?"
"Great."Ash responded. "We're all being doing just fine."
"Pika."Pikachu remarked.
"It's been so long since-"Dawn started.
Grotle happily tackles Ash causing the Pallet Town Trainer to drop on the floor.
"Well, Grotle looks specially healthy."Professor Oak complemented.
"Yeah since Grotle evolved, we've being working on a new battling style."Ash responded and took out a pokeball. "Grotle, return."
Ash returned Grotle in it's pokeball.
"You know what Professor?"Dawn asked. "Swinub evolved into Piloswine too."
Dawn shrieked as Piloswine tackled her down in joy.
"Come on, Piloswine!"Dawn begged. "Get off me!"
"Piloswine looks healthy like Grotle."Professor Oak replied. "I think it's time for a poem. A toast! May a good health be a sign of great success and with Piloswine!"
"Awesome!"Dawn squealed with her eyes sparkling. "I can't believe you just made up a poem about my Piloswine and me just like that!"
Brock chuckled nervously while Denise face palmed.
"Oh brother."Denise mumbled.
Dawn returned Piloswine in it's pokeball.
"And after a bit of poetry, there's nothing like a bite of gateau."Professor Oak admitted and ate a piece of gateau. "Say I had a thought. You four are all in Canalave City, correct?"
"Right."Ash agreed.
"You would try some gateau from the Old Chateau."Professor Oak stated.
"The Old Chateau?"Ash said in confusion.
"It's where they make a special type of gateau that's out of this world."Professor Oak replied. "I'll tell you, I've eaten almost every kind of gateau there is. Gateau artists call it the Mirage Gateau."
"Wow, I gotta try that."Ash commented.
"Yeah, me too."Dawn agreed.
"I may also learn a new kind of dessert to make."Denise responded.
"And it's made in the Old Chateau?"Brock asked.
"All Gateau in the Old Chateau."Professor Oak answered. "See, the plain and simple fact is they make all gateau in the Old Chateau in Canalave City."
Brock looks the Old Chateau up in his guidebook and it showed the location.
"Wait. hold up."Brock answered. "I remember now. Here it is."
"Whoa."Ash replied.
"It looks delicious."Dawn complemented.
"It almost looks like a brownie."Denise chuckled.
Afterwards...
The four heroes have arrived in front of the Old Chateau.
"So feast your eyes on the lovely Old Chateau."Brock insisted.
"Wow."Dawn gasped. "It's so stately and pretty."
"Piplup."Piplup chirped.
"It almost looks like a villa."Denise complemented.
"Drifloon."Drifloon giggled.
"So let's check it out."Ash suggested.
"Pikachu."Pikachu replied.
A construction worker walked up to the group.
"Hey, you kids."the construction worker greeted. "You, young people, aren't planning to visit the Old Chateau, are you?"
"Yeah."Ash replied. "That was the plan."
"Well, it's closed."the construction worker admitted. "You see there was a storm that came through about a week ago that took out all the power lines."
Ash, Dawn, Denise and Brock became surprised.
"What?"Denise questioned. "Seriously?"
"Yep."the construction worker answered. "Though I do think we'll get the power up and running sometime today. Bu there are these rumours."
"What kind of rumours?"Dawn asked.
"The rumors of a ghost rolling the empty halls of this Chateau!"the construction worker admitted creepily. "They're alive with shadows that seem like to moan 'Give me more Gateau!'"
Ash, Dawn, Denise, Brock, Pikachu and Piplup shivered in fear while Drifloon sweat dropped.
"Of course, that's just a silly old rumour."the construction worker said with a smile and walked away. "Take it easy!"
"That gateau is so good even ghosts can't get enough of it."Brock admitted.
"Well, Drifloon never tried a gateau."Denise commented.
"Drifloon."Drifloon agreed with a nod.
"Well since we came all this way, we might as well have some too."Ash complemented.
"Pika pika."Pikachu answered.
The group walked into the entrance of the Old Chateau.
But as they looked around, the heroes realised there was no sign of anyone around.
"I guess they really are closed."Dawn said.
"That means we all just made a really long trip for nothing."Brock responded.
"Man and I'm really hungry too!"Ash complained.
"Uh, quit complaining about your hunger."Denise scoffed.
Suddenly the entrance of the Old Chateau opened causing the heroes and their pokemon to peek inside.
"If no one is here, who opened the door?"Brock asked.
"You don't think it could've been a ghost do you?"Ash questioned.
"Don't be silly."Dawn reminded.
"Well, let's go in and find out."Denise suggested and looked at Drifloon. "Drifloon would you like to lead the way?"
"Drifloon."Drifloon answered.
Drifloon floated into the house while her trainer and companions remained in the entrance.
The Balloon Pokemon suddenly something walking into a room causing her to narrow her eyes.
"Drifloon!"Drifloon stated.
Drifloon went towards the room causing Pikachu and Piplup to follow after her.
"Pikachu!"Ash protested. "Wait!"
Ash, Denise, Dawn and Brock followed after the three pokemon.
Drifloon, Pikachu and Piplup headed down the stairs and saw a microwave lying next to a generator.
"Drif drifloon."Drifloon commented.
"Pikachu."Pikachu said with a troubled look.
Ash, Denise, Dawn and Brock went up to Drifloon, Pikachu and Piplup.
"Pikachu, you can't just go rushing into rooms like that."Ash reminded.
"Drifloon, you three have to be careful."Denise warned. "We've never been here before."
"Drifloon drifloon."Drifloon stated.
"You found something?"Denise asked.
Drifloon, Pikachu and Piplup brought the four heroes up the microwave.
"What's that?"Ash asked.
"A microwave."Brock responded.
"But what's it doing here?"Dawn questioned.
"That's a good question, sis."Denise agreed with her arms folded.
Drifloon and Pikachu began to touch the microwave.
"Be careful, don't break it."Ash instructed.
The four heroes spot the generator.
"Check that out."Ash said.
"Looks like some sort of generator."Brock replied. "So they could make electricity when the power goes out."
"That's really clever."Denise complemented.
Pikachu and Drifloon continued scanning the microwave.
Drifloon tapped the microwave while Pikachu went inside the small oven.
The microwave becomes alive and Pikachu uses Thunderbolt which the generator absorbed.
"Pikachu!"Ash called out and rushed up to his starter pokemon. "Whoa, what just happened?"
Pikachu stood up and pointed at the microwave.
"Pika pika!"Pikachu shouted with a glare.
Drifloon uses Astonish to hit the microwave causing it to gain a small crack.
"Drifloon!"Denise snapped. "What did you do that for?"
"Drifloon drifloon!"Drifloon responded angrily and glared at the broken microphone.
"The microwave is very odd?"Denise translated.
Suddenly Pikachu's attack on the generator caused the lights to be turned on.
"The power is back on."Dawn remarked.
The heroes hear an automated message in the intercom.
"Welcome to the Old Chateau!"A female voice admitted.
"Sounds like an automated voice message that must've kicked in when the power came back on."Brock responded.
The group continued listening to the message.
"Wow!"Ash remarked. "We can make the gateau ourselves."
"If anyone got the recipe they do."Brock commented and smiled. "Let's do it."
The heroes began walking into a hallway that lead to two doors.
Ash walked forward and pulled the doors open.
Brock, Dawn, Ash and Denise gasped in amazement at the sight of the kitchen.
"Gateau Corner!"Brock remarked. "What a kitchen!"
"You'll find everything you need to make your gateau!"the voice stated.
Then a hole on the countertop where the ingredients to make Old Gateau rose up from inside.
"Wow."Brock admitted excitedly. "Now we've got the ingredients and the recipe! They're begging us to make the stuff!"
"Now we will be able to try the Old Gateau after all."Dawn said excitedly.
"Piplup!"Piplup cheered.
"This should be a lot fun."Ash complemented.
"Pika pika."Pikachu giggled.
"Alright, just leave the prep to Brocko."Brock suggested.
Denise looked at Ash while Drifloon snuggled on her cheek.
"In the mean, we should train for our sixth gym battle."Denise admitted with a smile.
Ash nodded. "Right."
"Then Piplup and I will train for our next contest."Dawn stated.
"Piplup."Piplup agreed happily.
In the Garden of the Old Chateau...
Ash and Denise decided to have a battle against each other.
Denise took out a pokeball.
"Vaporeon, come on out!"Denise ordered.
The pokeball opened and Vaporeon appeared next to Drifloon.
"Vaporeon!"
"Okay Chimchar, we start with you first!"Ash stated.
The pokeball opened and Chimchar appeared next to Pikachu.
"Chimchar!"
"Since we'll be up against steel type pokemon at the Canalave Gym, this is your time to shine."Ash admitted.
"Chimchar!"Chimchar remarked.
"Ready, Dennie?"Ash asked.
"I am ready as I will ever be."Denise answered with a smirk.
"Okay, Chimchar use Flamethrower!"Ash ordered. "Pikachu use Thunderbolt!"
Chimchar fired Flamethrower and Pikachu used Thunderbolt.
"Quick, Drifloon dodge!"Denise ordered. "Vaporeon use Water Gun too!"
Drifloon dodged to avoid Pikachu's Thunderbolt while Vaporeon fired Water Gun on Chimchar's eyes.
Chimchar rubbed it's eyes to wipe out the water.
"Chimchar, pay attention on how your opponent is moving."Ash instructed.
Chimchar fired Flamethrower towards Drifloon and Vaporeon.
"Dodge it, you two!"Denise ordered.
Drifloon and Vaporeon moved out of the way causing Chimchar's Flamethrower to hit a lawnmower.
Ash and Denise went up to the lawnmower and saw a little burn on it.
"Uh oh!"Ash panicked. "What have we done?!"
"Hopefully the owner of this chateau won't get mad."Denise said worriedly.
Suddenly the lawnmower becomes alive with razor sharp teeth causing the two trainers and their pokemon to get spooked out.
The group started running with the living lawnmower going after them.
"How do you upset a lawnmower?!"Ash shouted.
"Quickly!"Denise protested. "Inside the house!"
Ash, Denise, Chimchar, Vaporeon, Pikachu and Drifloon run into the house.
When the group look outside the window, they saw the lawnmower was ordinary again.
"It's just a normal lawnmower!"Ash replied. "This is spooky."
"Yes, Ash."Denise disagreed. "But we weren't imagining that. There something strange about this Old Chateau."
Chimchar, Pikachu, Vaporeon and Drifloon looked at each other in worry.
Suddenly Dawn's screaming was heard in the hallway.
"Dawn!"Ash shouted.
"Sis!"Denise called out.
The two trainers and their pokemon rushed to check on Dawn.
In the hallway, they spotted Dawn running away with Piplup and Buneary.
"Dawn, what happened?"Ash asked.
"Ash! Dennie!"Dawn panicked. "There's this crazy fan!"
Ash and Denise notice a fan lying in the hallway.
"It wasn't a regular fan a second ago."Dawn commented.
"Me and Dennie were just being chased around by a lawnmower."Ash replied.
"Not to mention, it had razor sharp teeth."Denise added uncomfortably.
"Remeber what that construction worker said?"Dawn asked worriedly.
"They told us a ghost might be moving around here."Ash answered.
Drifloon went to check the fan while Denise was slowly placing the pieces together in her head.
"Hold on, absorbs electricity and vanishes like a ghost?"Denise said quietly. "Maybe it's a pokemon."
Shocked looks appeared on Ash and Dawn's faces.
"We got to warn Brock!"Ash and Dawn said in unison.
The trainers and their pokemon headed to find Brock, but they come across the lawnmower from outside.
"It's a lawnmower!"Dawn gasped.
"Oh no that's-"Ash started.
The lawnmower becomes alive causing everyone to make a run for it.
"Not again!"Denise shouted.
The three trainers and their pokemon headed upstairs and the lawnmower went the other side.
"I guess we're safe at least for now."Dawn sighed.
"Don't forget we still need to warn Brock."Ash reminded. "His down on the first floor all by himself."
Denise nodded. "Let's try the back way."
The group run, only for them to spot a washing machine at the other side causing them to grow nervous.
"Where did the washing machine come from?!"Dawn shrieked.
The washing machine becomes alive and fired water causing the heroes to run again.
"It's following us!"Ash warned.
"This pokemon is definitely a ghost type just like Drifloon!"Denise stated.
"Guys, look!"Dawn said. "An elevator!"
The three trainers and their pokemon use the elevator to escape.
Ash, Dawn, Denise, Chimchar, Pikachu, Vaporeon, Drifloon, Piplup and Buneary sighed in relief.
"We made it."Denise panted.
The elevator headed up the first floor.
"It's looking for us."Ash stated.
"Be careful, everyone."Dawn warned.
The elevator doors opened and the heroes saw the machine wasn't there.
"Looks like the coast is clear."Ash complemented.
"We need to go find Brock."Denise suggested.
"Right."Ash and Dawn said in unison.
Suddenly the living fan appeared once again causing the three trainers and their pokemon to make a run for it.
"Quick to the kitchen!"Ash shouted.
The group arrived into the kitchen and closed the doors causing Brock to notice them.
"You three look like you've seen a ghost."Brock stated.
"Y-Y-You don't know how right you are!"Ash stuttered.
"That's just what we saw!"Dawn agreed.
"Everywhere we ran, it was there!"Denise warned.
Chimchar, Pikachu, Vaporeon, Drifloon, Piplup and Buneary all shouted in agreement.
"Sounds to me like your imagination's at work."Brock said with a sheepish smile.
"Your wrong!"Ash protested.
"We were being chased by a ghost fan and a ghost washing machine!"Dawn cried.
"We need to get out of here now!"Denise demanded.
"This is no time to leave, especially when the gateau is almost ready to eat."Brock admitted and took out the gateau from the fridge. "Done. Presenting the famous Old Gateau."
Suddenly the fridge becomes alive causing the three trainers and their pokemon to freak out.
Brock turned around and saw the fridge was fine.
"Hey, what's wrong?"Brock asked.
Brock looked at his friends and the figure became alive again causing the three trainers to panic.
"Look behind you, Brock!"Ash protested.
Brock looked at the fridge, but it looked normal.
"It's a fridge."Brock said. "What's your point?"
"Just wait."Denise replied nervously.
When Brock turns several times around, he finally sees the fridge being alive causing him to smile nervously.
The ghost fridge fired snow balls causing the heroes and the pokemon to run out of the kitchen.
"What is that?!"Brock demanded.
"I don't know, but it's not friendly!"Ash shouted.
The ghost became an oven and fired Flamethrower at the group.
"Pikachu use Thunderbolt, quick!"Ash ordered.
"Piplup use Bubble Beam, let's go!"Dawn ordered.
"Vaporeon use Shadow Ball, hurry!"Denise ordered.
Pikachu used Thunderbolt, Piplup used Bubble Beam and Vaporeon used Shadow Ball on the oven.
A small Pokemon comes out, revealing to be a mischievous Rotom.
"A Rotom!"Denise snapped.
"That's a Rotom, huh?"Ash said as he took out his pokedex.
"Rotom the Plasma Pokemon."Ash's Pokedex said. "Rotom plays practical jokes, which it carries out by embedding its plasma body in electronic devices."
"Devices?"Dawn asked. "Like appliances?"
"So it's a ghost and an electric type."Denise responded.
"I wonder if everything that's been going on is the work of that Rotom."Ash commented.
Rotom giggled mischievously before going in a lawnmower and started chasing the heroes.
"Quick!"Ash called out. "Up the stairs!"
The heroes go up the stairs, but the Rotom turns into a washing machine.
Rotom fires water at the heroes, sending them out of the mansion.
Brock, Ash, Dawn, Denise and the pokemon lands hard on their ground.
Brock notice the gateau wasn't broken.
"At least the Old Gateau is safe."Brock remarked.
Rotom giggled at the heroes.
"Guess I have no choice."Ash growled. "Pikachu use Thunderbolt now!"
"Pachirisu, Discharge!"Dawn ordered.
Pachirisu appeared and fired blue electricity.
Pikachu used Thunderbolt and Pachirisu used Discharge, but the Rotom proves quite strong as it negated their attacks.
"Pikachu, stay strong!"Ash encouraged.
"You too, Pachirisu!"Dawn begged.
Denise looked at Vaporeon and Drifloon.
"Come on, let's help them out!"Denise instructed.
Vaporeon and Drifloon nodded in agreement.
"Vaporeon use Aurora Beam!"Denise ordered. "Drifloon use Thunderbolt!"
Vaporeon and Drifloon combined their attacks with Pikachu and Pachirisu's causing more power, which made the Rotom get attacked and defeated.
Rotom fainted on the ground and came out of the washing machine.
"Rotom!"Ash gasped.
The three trainers rushed up to Rotom and it waked up.
"Look!"Dawn said. "Rotom is awake!"
"Rotom, why were you trying to scare us like that?"Ash asked.
"What you did was really wrong."Denise admitted with a frown.
Piplup went next to Rotom.
"Pip piplup!"Piplup complained.
Rotom sweat dropped and looked down.
"Maybe Rotom was just trying to play with us."Dawn suggested.
Rotom smiled and nodded in agreement causing everyone to smile.
"Really?"Ash asked with a smile. "That all it was?"
Pikachu smiled. "Pika."
"Piplup."Piplup chirped and pats Rotom.
Piplup gets electrocuted by Rotom.
"Rotom, what are you doing?!"Dawn shouted.
Rotom electrocuted Dawn, Denise, Ash and Brock causing them to hit the floor.
"Rotom!"Ash snapped. "Knock it off!"
Rotom giggled mischievously before going away and disappearing in one of the lanterns.
Chimchar, Pikachu, Vaporeon, Drifloon, Pachirisu and Buneary sweat dropped of what just happened.
"I think Rotom doesn't know when to quit."Brock stated.
Dawn shrieked when she notice her hair was burned and frizzy.
"Oh no!"Dawn sobbed. "What am I going to do about my hair?!"
"I look like an Arcanine with the most wildest hair."Denise complemented in disproval.
"Ew!"Ash complained. "What about me?!"
The heroes and their pokemon started laughing at each other, seeing how ridiculous their hair looked.
Drifloon let out a gentle laugh before she started glowing, which surprised everyone.
"Huh?!"Dawn gasped.
"Drifloon is evolving!"Brock stated.
"No way!"Ash said.
"Pika!"Pikachu whispered.
Denise's eyes widen as she watched her ghost flying type pokemon evolve.
Then the glowing stopped and it revealed Drifloon evolved into Drifblim.
"Drifblim!"
"Whoa!"Denise chuckled. "Drifloon evolved into Drifblim!"
"That's awesome, Dennie."Dawn commented.
Denise hugged Drifblim in joy.
Meanwhile...
Helen was taking pictures of areas in Canalave City with her camera while her Flareon was next to her.
"And that's it."Helen giggled proudly. "We got enough pictures to send to Volkner."
"Flareon."Flareon said with a small nod.
"I don't know, Flareon."Helen responded with a unsure look as she lowered her camera down. "We shouldn't head home just yet. At least explore a bit more."
Flareon smiled at his trainer.
Rotom secretly sneaked into Helen's camera without the blonde haired girl or her fire type noticing.
Later that Evening...
The heroes sat outside on a bench to taste Brock's Gateau.
"So this is the Old Gateau?"Ash asked.
"Yep."Brock agreed. "And it's somehow in one piece."
"It looks yummy."Dawn remarked.
"Then let's dig in."Denise suggested.
Brock, Ash, Dawn and Denise began eating the Old Gateau causing them to blush.
"It's delicious!"Brock stated. "With just the perfect touch of sweetness!"
"Awesome with perfect texture!"Dawn giggled.
"Mmm...sugar and red bean paste!"Denise said dreamily.
"Wow!"Ash cried in joy. "This is stuff is enough to make a grown man cry!"
Pikachu, Piplup and Drifblim happily ate the gateau pieces.
"We should send some to Professor Oak."Dawn requested.
"Your right."Brock agreed.
Ash gives Pikachu a gateau piece to eat.
"Pikachu, eat up."Ash requested. "Because tomorrow our training begins in a big way."
"Pika pika."Pikachu answered with a nod.
