Chapter 105: The Love that Bloomed on the Battlefield!

Flashback...

A toddler Denise was having a practice battle against Lucas' Mudkip with a Clefairy.

"Now Clefairy use Pound!"Denise ordered.

Clefairy pounded on Mudkip.

"Mudkip use Aqua Tail!"Lucas ordered.

Mudkip whacked Clefairy with it's tail.

"Hurry Clefairy!"Denise protested. "Use Brick Break!"

Clefairy hits Mudkip with her hand.

"Ice Beam, Mudkip!"Lucas ordered.

"Use Thunder, Clefairy!"Denise ordered.

Clefairy dodged Mudkip's Ice Beam and hits the Mud Fish Pokemon with electricity.

"Yay, Dennie!"Dawn cheered.

"You rock!"Kenny laughed.

Leona and the other toddlers cheered at Denise's victory while Amy looked away and huffed.

"You okay, Mudkip?"Lucas asked in concern.

"Mud mudkip."Mudkip answered with a nod.

Denise happily picked up Clefairy.

"We did, Clefairy!"Denise giggled.

"Clefairy."Clefairy answered gently. "Clefairy."

Lucas watches Denise hugging Clefairy in joy causing him to smile and blush a little.

"Denise, your awesome."Lucas thought.

In the Poke Mart...

Denise came out of the Poké Mart while holding two bags that contained a few products she bought while Lucas stood next to her.

"So Denise, you got everything you need?"Lucas asked.

"Let's see got a few potions, a rope and two great balls."Denise stated with a smile. "I guess that is everything I need. Oh and a few sleeping tablets to help me catch some proper zzz's."

"Sleeping tablets?"Lucas said.

"For the past couple of weeks, I haven't been sleeping well, Lucas."Denise admitted and yawned a little bit. "I keep seeing a really strange pokemon in my dreams. It's big, black and has glowing red eyes."

"Whoa."Lucas responded with a disturbed look. "That's creepy."

"I know."Denise agreed and looked down. "I don't know what it even means. Every time I close my eyes, I see nothing but that pokemon. I feel like my relaxation plans are going to be disturbed for a while."

"Have you tried doing things that help you gain sweet dreams?"Lucas asked.

"Well, sometimes I have Luxio, Vaporeon or Hoothoot sleep next to me."Denise responded. "I guess their comfort is slowly easing my sleep."

"Hey Denise, would you like to do some training with me?"Lucas suggested.

"Training?"Denise said.

"Yeah."Lucas agreed. "You know since the Canalave Gym Leader won't be back for a while, it would nice to do training together. You know just to be prepared."

"Okay then."Denise agreed. "Let's train."

Denise and Lucas decided to battle each other for their gym battles in Canalave Town near the bridge where a school of Wailord were blocking the Canalave harbor.

Denise took out her Vaporeon while Lucas took out his Monferno.

"Alright, Vaporeon use Water Gun!"Denise ordered.

"Monferno use Flamethrower!"Lucas ordered.

Vaporeon used Water Gun and Monferno fired Flamethrower causing the moves to hit each other and to be cancelled out.

"Vaporeon use Shadow Ball!"Denise ordered.

Vaporeon fires Shadow Ball towards Monferno.

"Monferno dodge and use Blaze Kick!"Lucas ordered.

Monferno dodged Vaporeon's Shadow Ball and kicks the Bubble Jet Pokemon with a high critical hit ratio.

"Oh no!"Denise gasped.

"Use Thunder Punch!"Lucas ordered.

Monferno prepared to hit Vaporeon with his fist that causes sparks of electricity to appear on it.

"Quick, Vaporeon use Aurora Beam!"Denise ordered.

"Huh?"Lucas said in surprise.

Vaporeon fires Aurora Beam to sent Monferno back.

"Now Vaporeon, Water Gun!"Denise ordered.

Vaporeon hits Monferno with Water Gun.

"Monferno use Flame Wheel!"Lucas ordered.

Monferno spun like a wheel and rushed toward Vaporeon as fire formed him.

"Quick Vaporeon, dodge!"Denise ordered.

Vaporeon dodges Monferno's Flame Wheel but gets her tail caught by the Playful Pokemon.

"What the-"Denise started.

"Thunder Punch!"Lucas ordered.

Monferno hits Vaporeon with his free hand.

Vaporeon lands on the ground and growled weakly.

"Vaporeon, come on get up!"Denise protested.

"Vaporeon."Vaporeon mumbled.

The Bubble Jet Pokemon winced when she felt being paralysed by Monferno's Thunder Punch.

"Use Flamethrower!"Lucas ordered.

Monferno fires Flamethrower toward Vaporeon.

"Vaporeon, come on!"Denise begged. "You can do this!"

The Playful Pokemon narrowed her eyes and blasts a huge volume of water on Monferno's Flamethrower which cancelled it out.

This caused Lucas and Monferno to become surprised.

"Whoa, Vaporeon!"Denise chuckled. "You learned Hydro Pump!"

Vaporeon nodded. "Vaporeon!"

"So Vaporeon learned a new attack...Monferno use Blaze Kick!"Lucas ordered.

Monferno leapt up to kick Vaporeon again.

"Shadow Ball, Vaporeon!"Denise ordered.

Vaporeon hits Monferno with Shadow Ball.

Monferno landed on the ground, but then stood up.

"Flamethrower, Monferno!"Lucas ordered.

"Okay, Vaporeon use Hydro Pump again!"Denise ordered.

Monferno fired Flamethrower while Vaporeon fired Hydro Pump.

The powerfull attacks combined causing a big explosion to happen.

Then the smoke cleared away, revealing both Vaporeon and Monferno standing while panting slowly.

But then Monferno dropped on his knees and fainted.

Vaporeon had won the battle.

Denise rushed up to Vaporeon and bend down.

"Good job, Vaporeon."Denise remarked. "I am proud of you."

"Vaporeon."Vaporeon giggled.

Lucas went up to Monferno, who looked down sadly for losing.

"You tried your best, Monferno."Lucas assured with a smile. "It was still a great battle."

"Monferno."Monferno chuckled lightly.

Denise and Lucas walked up to each other.

"Your Monferno is really strong, Lucas."Denise complemented.

"I can say the same with your Vaporeon."Lucas agreed. "We are both definitely going to win our next gym badges."

Denise and Lucas shook hands while Vaporeon and Monferno smiled at each other.

Lucas notice the necklace around Denise's neck.

"Denise that necklace..."Lucas started.

Denise blushed a little and held the necklace.

"Yeah, Ash gave it to me."Denise remarked. "Isn't it pretty?"

Lucas looked at Denise with a hint of confusion.

"Denise."Lucas spoke up. "Ash isn't the one who gave you that necklace. It was me."

Denise stared at Lucas with a surprised look.

The heart necklace that was gift for her was from Lucas not Ash.

"I surprised you, didn't I?"Lucas asked.

Denise remained quiet as she looked down.

"I really thought Ash was the one who gave me that necklace."Denise thought with a troubled look.

"Denise, are you okay?"Lucas asked.

Denise looked at Lucas with a small smile.

"Yeah."Denise agreed. "I'm totally fine."

"Denise ever since I first met you and had our first battle together, I-I...uh..."Lucas started and blushed crept up his face. "I've gotten butterflies in my stomach every time I've seen you and I gotten a crush on you."

Monferno snickered mischievously which caused him to earn a glare from his trainer.

"Really?"Denise chuckled weakly. "You don't say..."

"And I've been wondering if maybe you would like to go on a date with me?"Lucas suggested.

"I don't know about that."Denise said with a troubled look.

"Then think about it and give me your answer when your ready."Lucas suggested with a smile.

"Sure."Denise agreed with a nod.

Later that Evening...

Denise and Lucas went inside the Pokemon Center.

Vaporeon and Monferno followed their trainers closely.

"It's strange."Denise commented. "I thought we would find them in the Pokemom Center."

"Maybe they all went to check if the Canalave Gym is open?"Lucas suggested.

"I guess so."Denise replied.

The two trainers turned their attention on the latest news on Pokemon Contests on television.

"And now for the Contest wrap up! As you can see, the Gerber Contest has ended in a huge victory for Kenny from Twinleaf Town, which means Kenny's total ribbon count is now up to three and Amy's contest victory in Beach Rose Town gives her four ribbons!"Marian reported. "As these two coordinators are progressing, the excitement is building! You won't want to miss our next Contest, which is in Chocovine Town, located up north! We're hoping for a large group of Coordinators and you!"

"So the next contest is in Chocovine Town, huh?"Denise said.

"Vaporeon."Vaporeon responded.

"I'm sure your going to do well in that contest, Denise."Lucas admitted. "I've seen Amy competing in contests, but they are nothing compared to yours."

"Umm...thank you."Denise replied shyly.

"So I'll see you later, okay?"Lucas asked.

Denise nodded. "Right. See you later."

Lucas smiled and walked away from Denise with Monferno, leaving the Twinleaf girl with her water type pokemon.

A worried look appeared on Denise's face.

Lucas was a nice guy and a good friend, but she wasn't sure if she wanted to go out with him.

Sure Denise kissed Lucas in the kindergarten play and had a crush on him when they were little.

However now she wasn't sure anymore.

Ash was her guy, right?

"What should I do?"Denise thought with a worried look.

Vaporeon gently snuggled against Denise's legs.

"Hey, Denise!"

Denise notice Ash, Brock and Dawn walking up to them.

"Oh, hi guys."Denise greeted kindly.

"Dennie, where you've been all this time?"Ash asked.

"I was just hanging out with Lucas."Denise said simply.

"With Lucas?"Ash repeated.

"So you two were together all the time?"Dawn asked smugly.

A small blush crept on Denise's face.

"Yeah, but we were just doing some training for our next gym battle and nothing else."Denise assured with a small frown. "What about you three? Did I miss anything?"

"Not much, only my Piloswine evolved into Mamoswine when Team Rocket tried to steal our pokemon again."Dawn answered.

"Piloswine evolved?"Denise said in surprise. "But it just evolved from Swinub a few days ago."

"True but I don't know if I'll ever be able to control Mamoswine."Dawn stated with a hint of sadness.

"You'll just have to take it slow, Dawn."Brock stated.

"No need to worry."Ash agreed.

Nurse Joy walked up to the heroes.

"Hey Ash, I just got the word a few minutes ago that Byron of the Canalave Gym Leader has just returned from his trip."Nurse Joy admitted.

"Wow! Great!"Ash remarked and looked at Pikachu. "Hear that? Our Gym battle is coming up!"

"Pika pikachu!"Pikachu cheered.

"Awesome news."Denise agreed with a nod. "Let's head there first thing tomorrow."

"Well my sixth gym badge is waiting for me right now!"Ash announced excitedly.

Denise smiled at Ash, but deep down was wondering if the Pallet Town Trainer even liked her at all.
