Pokemon: Friends to the End
Chapter 109: Steeling Peace of Mind!
At the Pokemon Center...
Denise slowly brushed Torchic's fur with a small brush as she, Ash, Dawn and Brock were getting prepared to leave Canalave City to head to the next Pokemon Contest in Chocovine Town.
"Hey, why don't we head down to the pier?"Dawn suggested.
"Pip piplup."Piplup chirped.
"I guess that would be okay."Denise agreed.
"Torchic."Torchic tweeted.
"Wow!"Ash chuckled. "Time sure flies!"
"Let's get a move on."Brock admitted.
"Ash have you decided which gym your going to challenge next?"Dawn asked.
"Yeah."Ash responded with a nod. "The Snowpoint Gym."
"Pika."Pikachu remarked.
"Check it out."Ash instructed as he pointed at a dot on Snowpoint City's location. "Snowpoint City is next to Chocovine Town, where you and Dennie's next contest is gonna be."
"Ash and I were talking about heading north to where Snowpoint City is after the two of you have your Contest."Brock explained.
"Sounds great."Dawn agreed. "I've never been to Snowpoint City before."
"I've heard that the Gym Leader in Snowpoint City specialises ice type pokemon."Denise stated.
Then Nurse Joy walked up to the four heroes.
"Excuse me? Ash and Denise?"Nurse Joy said. "You've got a phone call."
"Thanks a lot, Nurse Joy."Ash replied with a smile.
Pikachu smiled. "Pika pika."
"I have a good guess who could it be."Denise said.
"Torchic?"Torchic said in curiosity.
Ash and Denise got a call from Barry, who called to ask them how their training was going.
"So Ash and Denise, you two managed to win at the Canalave Gym?"Barry asked.
"You bet I did, Barry."Ash replied and took out the Mine Badge. "See this? Cool, huh?"
"Then that would make us now an extra step ahead of you, Barry."Denise joked smugly.
Hearing that sentence caused Barry to become angry.
"Yeah! Yeah! Whatever!"Barry scoffed. "I'll be ahead of you two before you even realise, Denise!"
Ash smiled sheepishly and Denise simply smiled.
"But seeing you two getting your sixth badges, I guess I'll have to treat you two as my real rivals."Barry bragged with a smile.
Ash, Dawn and Brock sweat dropped while Denise simply rolled her eyes.
"So Barry how is your training going?"Ash asked.
The smile on Barry's face vanished.
"Not so good."Barry answered.
This caused Ash, Denise, Dawn and Brock to become surprised.
"Is something going on?"Dawn asked.
"Actually something is really wrong with Empoleon."Barry responded.
Stunned looks appeared on the heroes faces.
"All of a sudden, Empoleon doesn't recognise me!"Barry explained. "Nurse Joy is taking care of him right now and I'll tell you, Empoleon is not the only one acting strange. Bunches of other pokemon have gone crazy just like Empoleon. They're wreaking havoc all over the island! What about you guys? Are your pokemon, okay?"
Brock, Dawn, Ash and Denise looked at each other before looking at Barry.
"Yeah."Ash responded. "All our pokemon are fine."
"I wonder if it's only on Iron Island."Barry commented. "Nurse Joy can't seem to figure out why Empoleon is acting so strange either. So I guess I have to figure this out my myself!"
"Come on, Barry! You know we'll come over there and help you out!"Ash argued and looked at his companions. "Right, guys?"
"Of course, Ash."Dawn said with a nod.
"You bet."Brock agreed.
"That's what we do."Denise replied.
"Pika!"Pikachu remarked.
"Piplup!"Piplup chirped.
"Torchic!"Torchic tweeted.
"Are you trying to say that I'm not smart enough to figure this thing out by myself!?"Barry snapped.
This caused Brock, Dawn, Ash and Denise to sweat drop.
"We don't mean that at all!"Dawn assured.
"Absolutely!"Denise chuckled weakly.
"It's just that we're a team and we're gonna figure this out."Ash commented.
Brock took out his Map Book.
"The next ferry to Iron Island leaves in 15 minutes."Brock admitted.
"Great!"Ash responded and looked at Barry. "We'll get there as fast as we can! We'll be there before you know it!"
Then the heroes ended the call before heading out of the Pokemon Center.
There was a boat heading to Chocovine Town, but the group headed to the boat that was going to take them to Iron Island.
Ash groaned as he stomped his feet impatiently.
"Ugh! Can this thing go any faster?!"Ash complained.
"Pika pika."Pikachu said.
"Ash, chill out."Denise reminded with a small frown. "Remember impatience gets you no where in life."
"Torchic."Torchic responded with a nod.
"Exactly."Dawn agreed. "You sound just like Barry."
"Piplup."Piplup replied.
"Look up ahead!"Brock stated.
Ash, Denise and Dawn looked forward and saw they were getting close to Iron Island.
"That's Iron Island!"Brock commented.
A While Later...
The ferry soon arrived to Iron Island.
However when the heroes get to the Pokemon Center, they find out that Barry had already left.
"What?! I don't believe it!"Ash said in shock. "Barry left already?!"
"Well, he is Barry."Dawn reminded. "We should've known."
"Piplup."Piplup said sadly.
Denise sighed in disproval.
"Classic impatient Barry."Denise responded.
"Torchic."Torchic mumbled.
"I'm sorry."Nurse Joy apologised. "He just left and wouldn't listen."
Brock held Nurse Joy's hands and started flirting with her.
"Fear not!"Brock flirted. "Hearing you apologise gives me great pain on my-"
Croagunk poison jabbed Brock at the back causing the breeder to collapse.
"Backside."Brock muttered in pain.
Croagunk dragged Brock away as Nurse Joy watched in confusion.
"Nurse Joy, how is Barry's Empoleon?"Ash asked.
Nurse Joy brought the group to the room, where Barry's Empoleon was recovering along with the other Steel Type Pokemon.
"It's still under treatment."Nurse Joy explained. "The thing I haven't been able to figure out yet, is why only the steel type pokemon are being affected."
"Only steel types?"Denise said.
"I wonder what it is."Dawn responded with a worried look.
"That's really strange."Brock stated.
"They're in so much pain."Dawn added sadly. "The poor things."
"Piplup."Piplup chirped quietly.
"Why do I have a bad feeling about this?"Denise thought.
Denise held Torchic in her hands tightly causing the chick pokemon to become uncomfortable.
"Torchic."Torchic groaned.
"Sorry, Torchic."Denise apologised and eased her grip. "I'm just lost for words."
Ash gritted his teeth in anger of seeing the steel type pokemon in pain.
Ash, Denise, Dawn and Brock left the Pokemon Center to explore the island.
"Man, what's up in Iron Island?"Ash asked.
"I hope Barry is okay."Dawn said.
"Probably is, sis."Denise replied.
"Diglett!"
The heroes notice a group of wild Diglett bursting out of the ground and quickly moving passed them.
Suddenly a wild Lairon came out of the ground and roared at the group.
"Lairon!"
"It's a Lairon!"Ash said.
"All those Diglett must be trying to get away from it!"Dawn stated.
Suddenly the wild Lairon started bashing itself against the rocks.
Ash, Denise, Dawn and Brock quickly moved out the way to avoid being hit by the rocks that Lairon was breaking down.
"Hey, Lairon isn't after those Digletts."Ash said.
"It looks like that Lairon is in pain."Denise commented.
Lairon continued hit itself against the rocks.
"Yeah."Brock agreed. "Just like the other Steel types."
"That's why is crazed?"Ash asked.
"Lairon is rampaging in order to block out all of it's intense pain."Brock stated.
"We've gotta try and do something to help."Ash said and looked at Pikachu. "Pikachu, let's go!"
Ash and Pikachu rushed forward causing Denise to look at Torchic.
"Let's help too, Torchic!"Denise suggested.
Torchic nodded. "Torchic!"
Denise and Torchic went after Ash and Pikachu.
"Ash! Denise! Wait!"Dawn protested.
"Pikachu, stop Lairon by using Thunderbolt and aim for it's legs!"Ash ordered.
Pikachu used Thunderbolt, but the attack didn't hit Lairon.
"No good?!"Ash said.
"Torchic use Fire Spin on Lairon, but don't hurt it too much!"Denise instructed.
Torchic hits Lairon with Fire Spin.
However Lairon rushed through the fire attack and continued running towards Ash and Denise.
"Not even fire spin?!"Denise gasped.
"Be careful, guys!"Dawn warned.
"One more time!"Ash ordered.
"But this time together!"Denise ordered.
Pikachu let out a Thunderbolt and Torchic used Fire Spin at the same time.
The two attacks hit Lairon, but they didn't give the steel ground type any damage.
"No way!"Ash shouted in disbelief.
"How?!"Denise demanded.
Lairon was getting closer to the duo and their pokemon.
"Thunderbolt and Fire Spin didn't do a thing?!"Dawn responded.
"No."Brock answered. "Lairon's hurt. But for some reasons, it seemed unfazed by the pain."
Ash ran in front of Lairon.
"Lairon! Stop!"Ash protested. "We are not your enemies!"
"Ash, it's useless!"Dawn called out.
"You need to move out the way!"Denise shouted.
Denise shoved Ash out of the way and Lairon ends up hitting a rock.
Brock, Dawn, Pikachu and Torchic rushed up to Ash and Denise to see if they were okay.
"Ash, Dennie, are you two alright?"Dawn asked.
"Are any of you hurt?"Brock questioned.
Torchic went into Denise's arms as Pikachu went next to Ash.
"No, I don't think so."Ash answered.
"We are totally fine."Denise said.
"Thanks for helping me out there, Dennie."Ash remarked with a smile.
A small blush crept up on Denise's face.
"It was nothing."Denise assured and helped Ash up. "But next time try and use her head before doing anything reckless."
"Right."Ash chuckled sheepishly.
"Metang!"
The group see a Metang bursting out from the ground which caused a few Geodudes and a Graveler to flee from it.
"It's a Metang!"Brock replied.
The wild Metang started banging itself against the rocks.
"It's like Metang is trying to hurt itself!"Dawn commented.
"No! Metang! Stop!"Ash called out.
Then a wild Skarmory started releasing Air Slashes and a Steelix fired Hyper Beam around where the Geodudes, Rattata, Diglett and Graveler stood.
"All of the steel types are out of control!"Denise retorted.
"Awful!"Dawn cried out. "I can't believe this!"
"I like to know what's going on."Brock admitted.
Ash gritted his teeth and glared at the steel type pokemon.
"Why are you doing all this?!"Ash demanded as he rushed forward. "Stop this right now!"
Suddenly a wild Aggron hits the Steelix before glancing at Ash.
"Ash!"Denise shouted. "Watch out!"
Aggron launched a Flash Cannon towards Ash.
Suddenly a figure saved Ash from being hit by Aggron's Flash Cannon and landed where a Lucario stood.
"Lucario, Close Combat!"the man ordered.
Lucario attacks Aggron while using Close Combat before sending it down on the ground.
The group stared at the mysterious man and his Lucario in silence.
"Are you alright?"the man asked.
"Yeah."Ash responded with a nod. "I'm fine. That was something."
"It was a close call for sure."the man replied.
The man and the heroes started following Lucario.
Then Lucario went up a rock to use it's aura to check if the area is safe.
"What is Lucario doing?"Dawn asked.
"Scanning the area with it's aura."the man responded.
Lucario stood up and nodded at it's master.
"Good. Thanks, Lucario."the man thanked and looked at the heroes. "Apparently this area is safe. So how about a break?"
Brock, Dawn, Denise and Ash immediately sat down on several rocks as Lucario landed next to his trainer.
"Thanks a whole lot for saving me before."Ash remarked. "Nice to meet you. I'm Ash."
"Pika pikachu."Pikachu greeted.
"I'm Dawn."Dawn answered.
"Piplup."Piplup chirped.
"I'm her twin sister, Denise."Denise said.
"Tor torchic."Torchic tweeted.
"And my name is Brock."Brock responded.
"Hi, my name is Riley."the man admitted. "I specialise in steel types. Lots of steel type pokemon live in this island, so this is where I live and train."
"Yeah? For a long time?"Ash asked.
"Yes."Riley replied. "As you can see, this island is made up of rocky terrain. But that's exactly why this island is best suited for us. To condition our hearts and bodies just like a Steel Type."
Ash, Denise, Dawn and Brock carefully listened to Riley.
"Iron Island felt like it's always been a homeland for my soul."Riley explained. "So now that my homeland is in danger and for the sake of Steel Types, we're investigating the causes of these strange occurrences."
Lucario nodded in agreement.
"But isn't Lucario a Steel Type too?"Dawn asked.
"Yes."Riley agreed. "Lucario is a Steel Type and a Fighting Type."
"Then how come Lucario seems to be okay?"Brock questioned.
"Lucario is surrounding itself with's protective aura."Riley explained.
Lucario spoke as blue energy appeared in his body for a moment.
"Whoa."Denise chuckled. "That's amazing."
Torchic nodded. "Torchic."
"Pika pika."Pikachu responded.
"Piplup."Piplup chirped.
"We've actually come to the island to look for someone."Brock admitted. "He's a young trainer named Barry."
"He is also a trainer that happens to be very impatient and has a hyperactive personality."Denise added.
"Barry? Haven't seen him."Riley answered.
A while later, the heroes and Riley started walking together.
Lucario walked forward to use his aura to scan if the area was safe for them.
"In doing our research, Lucario and I have discovered a special, low frequency sound wave covering the island that only affects steel type pokemon."Riley explained.
"Low frequency?"Ash said.
"And it's having an adverse effect on the bodies of every Steel Type here."Riley stated. "Of course, that's why their senses and demeanour have been altered."
"And that's why they don't feel any pain."Brock said.
"It's really horrifying the way they're hurting themselves."Denise complemented sadly.
Torchic snuggled against Denise's chest.
"I really want to help all of them."Ash murmured and gritted his teeth.
"Pika pika."Pikachu agreed.
"Riley, do you know the source of the wave?"Brock asked.
"That's what we're working on."Riley responded and looked at a direction. "Okay. That path will lead you all back to town. If I do run into Barry, I'll tell him to meet you there."
"No."Ash responded. "We wanna go with you. We're really worried about Barry, but we can't just leave all those poor Steel Types to suffer like that."
"Too dangerous, sorry."Riley apologised.
"Listen, Riley. I know we seem young, but we actually have strong pokemon with us that help us in case to solve problems or if we ever ran into trouble."Denise assured calmly. "Please, let us help you and Lucario. We can't just leave those pokemon suffering."
This caused Riley to become surprised.
"All of us really want to help out because what Ash and Denise said are both true."Brock agreed.
"We're all trainers."Dawn added. "We have to."
Riley glanced at Lucario.
"They say they're all trainers."Riley said.
Lucario spoke and smiled in approval.
"But will you all hesitate to attack a pokemon that's gone berserk?"Riley asked.
This caused Brock, Ash, Denise and Dawn to become quiet.
"It's not going to be easy to do that."Dawn responded.
"Perhaps."Riley said. "But if you hesitate and get defeated, you won't be able to save those who truly are in need. Am I wrong?"
The four trainers and three pokemon glanced at each other.
"That's true."Denise answered.
This caused Torchic, Ash, Pikachu, Dawn, Piplup and Brock to looked at Denise.
"What are you saying, Dennie?"Ash asked.
Torchic blinked. "Chic?"
"Since the steel type pokemon are the ones out of control, we got to still fight them even if they are innocent deep down."Denise explained and looked at Riley. "But it's better to stay and help out instead of running away from the problem at hand."
Torchic, Ash, Pikachu, Dawn, Piplup and Brock looked at Denise quietly.
Riley nodded at Denise's respond causing Lucario to start rushed forward.
The heroes and Riley started running as well while following Lucario, who began using his aura to guide them.
A sound was heard from one of the aura waves.
"The low frequency sound waves are coming from up ahead!"Riley stated.
Lucario gave a respond.
"You saying someone is up there too?"Riley asked. "Quite a few of them too."
"I'm getting a bad feeling about this!"Ash admitted.
"So do I."Denise thought with a unsure look. "But it's weird that I had it from the beginning."
The heroes and Riley arrived to the low frequency's location, which revealed to be a ruin that statues of Dialga and Palkia surrounded by huge dark crystals.
The figures around the ruins were Team Galactic.
"What's that?"Ash asked.
"It looks like some sort of ruins."Brock replied.
"Look at that."Denise scowled with a glare. "Team Galactic is here too."
"Which means this place might have something to do with Time Space Legend."Brock admitted.
"No way."Dawn whispered.
"When Lucario was sensing a lot of people, he must've been sensing Team Galactic."Ash complemented.
"Who are Team Galactic?"Riley asked.
"They're trying to figure out the legends of Sinnoh Time Space and they're apparently going after Dialga and Palkia."Brock stated.
"Incredible."Riley said quietly.
Lucario gritted his teeth in anger.
"So this must be the source."Riley responded.
This caused Ash, Denise, Dawn and Brock to become stunned.
"The low frequency sound waves that's causing all the trouble."Riley commented. "They have to be coming from these ruins. I had no idea that ruins made out of a metal like substance even on Iron Island."
"I'll bet Team Galactic discovered them by digging them up."Dawn suggested.
"No doubt about it."Riley stated.
Denise placed her free hand to rub her forehead a little to ease the headache she felt was coming.
Lucario spoke and pointed at the artefact, which Mars put it in a carving.
"What?"Riley asked. "You must be sensing great power. Focus your aura and find out as much as you can. It must have something to do with those sound waves."
Lucario began to use it's aura to concentrate on the artefact.
"It's got to do with those sound waves."Brock said.
A power awakened as the statues glowed and a beam hits a far-away mountain.
Riley and the heroes watched the sight in shock.
"It's blinding!"Dawn shouted.
Torchic placed his face closely on Denise's arms to cover his eyes from the huge light.
Denise winced in pain when she saw a vision of Mount Coronet surrounded by dark clouds and the shadow pokemon.
"Not again."Denise murmured tiredly.
Lucario got hit by the power before getting knocked into the floor.
"Lucario!"Riley shouted. "Are you alright?!"
However when Lucario stood up, it got possessed by a dark aura.
"Lucario?"Ash asked.
"Something is wrong with Lucario."Denise replied nervously.
"It's acting strange!"Brock commented.
"No!"Dawn gasped. "Not Lucario!"
Lucario growled and began to form an Aura Sphere.
"Lucario! Stop!"Ash demanded.
"LUCARIO!"Riley yelled out.
Lucario fires Aura Sphere towards Riley and the heroes.
