Chapter 112: Hold the Phione!
Ash, Dawn, Denise and Brock have finally arrived at Chocovine Town, the site of Dawn and Denise's next Pokemon Contest.
"Awesome."Ash remarked with a smile. "This place is packed."
"It's busy alright."Dawn agreed.
"Wonder what's the occasion?"Denise said in curiosity.
As they explore the harbour, the heroes noticed a stand selling all kinds of Phione merchandise and begins hugging one of the Phione dolls.
"So how about a Phione cellphone strap for good luck?"A vendor called out. "We've got your Phione dolls here! Your Phione candies here! You name it, we got it!"
Dawn picked up a Phione doll.
"These Phione dolls are so adorable!"Dawn squealed.
"Ma'am, you've got good taste."the vendor chuckled.
"The candies look good too."Denise commented as she picked up a small box of Phione shaped chocolates in it. "I'll buy one."
Denise gives the vendor the money to buy the chocolate box.
"And if you think this is good, check this out."the vendor insisted. "They're the real article!"
The vendor pointed their attention to a TV screen, where video clips of three real Phione were playing.
"Wow!"Ash and Brock said in unison.
"They're so cute!"Denise giggled.
"Chocovine Town's one of the few places Phione can be seen since they're such rare."Brock explained.
"I've never seen one before."Ash complemented.
"Pikachu."Pikachu responded.
"Piplup."Piplup chirped.
"Torchic."Torchic tweeted.
Dawn scanned the stand's video recording of three Phione with her Pokedex.
"Phione the Sea Drifter Pokemon."Dawn's Pokedex buzzed. "Phione lives in warm oceans. It inflates the flotation sac on its head allowing it to float on the waves and look for food."
"So you fine young people gonna enter the Pokemon Contest?"the vendor asked.
"I am."Dawn replied confidently. "Once I show them what I'm made of that ribbon is mine."
Denise smirked at Dawn.
"We'll see, sis."Denise warned with a smirk. "But that fourth ribbon could end up as mine."
"Having Gym battles is what I'm into."Ash admitted. "After we leave here, we're heading for the Snowpoint City Gym."
"Well then, you all want to make sure you all take in a Phione watching."the vendor stated.
This caused Ash, Dawn and Denise to become surprised.
"Phione watching?"Ash, Dawn and Denise asked in unison. "What's that?"
"I see there's an old saying in Chocovine Town that good luck spots down on the Phione and you've all come to the right place."the vendor explained. "Actually, this is the only time of year when it's possible to spot a Phione. Year after year, this town is swarmed with sightseers, all hoping to catch a glimpse. And if memory serves me well, the last several years, all the Contest Champions were Coordinators who had spotted the Phione before their competition."
"You mean it?"Dawn asked excitedly. "All of them?!"
"I guess that would include Lisia."Denise chuckled.
Dawn and Denise looked at Ash and Brock.
"Hey, guys!"Dawn said. "Let's go, Phione watching!"
"Sure."Ash agreed with a smile. "I want to see one."
"Pikachu."Pikachu replied.
"Piplup."Piplup chirped.
"Torchic."Torchic tweeted.
"Great."Brock remarked. "Let's all go together."
"I am so psyched!"Dawn squealed.
"This is going to be great!"Denise added happily.
"Hey Dawn, did you decide who you're going to use in the contest yet?"Ash asked.
This caused Dawn to smile at Ash and take out two pokeballs.
"Buneary! Pachirisu!"Dawn called out and threw out her pokeballs. "Come on out!"
The two pokeballs opened causing Buneary and Pachirisu to appear.
"So how would you feel about going out and getting yourselves some extra good luck for the contest?"Dawn asked.
Buneary and Pachirisu cheered while Piplup felt down.
Ash looked at Denise.
"And what about you, Dennie?"Ash asked.
"I'll show you."Denise responded with a wink and took out a pokeball. "Come out, Luxio!"
The pokeball opened and Luxio appeared next to Pachirisu and Buneary.
"Luxio!"
"I will use Luxio in the performance stage and Torchic in the battle rounds."Denise explained.
"Torchic!"Torchic cheered.
Luxio smirked. "Luxio."
Dawn notice Piplup was feeling sad that she didn't choose him for the Pokemon Contest.
"Piplup, I was thinking maybe you could help cheer them on this time."Dawn suggested.
"Piplup..."Piplup started with a unsure look.
"You know how much they look up to you."Dawn reminded with a wink.
This caused Piplup to immediately cheer up.
"Pip piplup!"Piplup chirped.
Later that Night...
The four heroes walked up to the people, who were selling tickets to people for going on submarines to see the Phione underwater.
"Excuse us."Brock said. "Four tickets, please."
"With ease."Jessie replied.
Brock, Ash, Dawn and Denise got the tickets and headed to a submarine.
Luxio glanced at the ticket sellers in suspicion as he followed his trainer closely.
The submarine went underwater once the heroes went inside it.
Inside the Submarine...
There were other people and coordinators looking forward to see the Phione.
The heroes and their pokemon watched in amazement seeing a bunch of Qwilfish, Luvdisc and Finneon swimming in the water.
"Look at the Luvdisc."Dawn remarked. "They're gorgeous."
"Wow and check out all the Finneon."Ash suggested.
"Beautiful little fishes."Denise complemented kindly and placed a small chocolate in her mouth.
"Yeah, being underwater is really neat, right Croagunk?"Brock asked.
Croagunk croaked in respond.
Suddenly a bright light appeared in the water before it split into three.
Dawn, Ash, Denise, Brock and their pokemon watched the sight in awe.
"Pika pika!"Pikachu gasped.
"Whoa, what's that?"Ash asked.
The three bright lights revealed to be three Phione that swim to the submarine.
"It's the Phione!"Dawn responded.
"They're really here!"Denise remarked.
"Torchic!"Torchic tweeted in joy.
Pikachu, Buneary, Pachirisu, Torchic and Luxio watched the Phione in amazement.
Two men rushed to check the window that Brock was watching from while pushing him.
"Wow!"Two men said in unison. "Look at them all!"
A couple looked at each other and held hands.
"Do you know what this means?"the man asked.
"We'll be happy together forever."the woman answered in joy.
The rest of the people came to the windows to watch the Phione together.
One of the Phione notice Buneary and went to greet the Rabbit Pokemon.
"Phione!"Phione greeted happily.
"Buneary?"Buneary said in confusion.
"This is too cute."Dawn giggled.
"Wonder what it is saying."Ash said.
"Wish I could know."Denise chuckled.
"It's hard to say, but one thing's for sure."Brock replied. "It likes Buneary."
Buneary looked at the Phione.
"Buneary..."Buneary said quietly.
Afterwards...
The sightseeing was over as everyone got out and the ticket sellers bid them good-bye.
"Thank you all for riding the friendly seas!"the two ticket sellers complemented.
"Those Phione sure were cute."Dawn said with a smile.
"Since we saw them, I am looking forward to winning my fourth ribbon in our next contest."Denise stated smugly.
"No way, Dennie!"Dawn argued. "That ribbon will be mine!"
"Sure..."Denise chuckled.
"Luxio."Luxio snickered quietly.
The Next Morning...
Ash, Dawn, Denise and Brock were doing their morning exercises along with Pikachu, Torchic, Luxio, Buneary and Pachirisu.
"1, 2, 3, 4!"Ash counted. "1, 2, 3, 4!"
Everyone stood up and stretched when they finished doing their morning exercise.
"Alright, gang!"Ash responded. "Next is some special Gym Battle training!"
"Pika!"Pikachu cheered.
"Hey Ash, maybe you could do that later?"Dawn suggested.
"Huh?"Ash said in confusion.
"You see, the thing is, me and Denise kind of wanted to go buy some Seals for our contest pokeballs."Dawn explained.
"It would be great if you two could join us."Denise insisted.
"But there is training to do."Ash reminded. "And Dennie you have a Gym battle after the Contest."
"We won't be long."Dawn assured. "Come on."
"We'll do our training right after doing some shopping."Denise remarked.
Dawn and Denise pulled Brock and Ash away to where they could get to the nearest Poke Mart.
Luxio, Torchic, Piplup and Pachirisu followed after their four human friends as while Buneary dragged Pikachu.
Inside the Poke Mart...
Dawn and Denise were checking the Seals they wanted to buy with their pokemon.
"Now Buneary, what do you think of this one?"Dawn asked and pointed at the Heart Seal. "Isn't it cute?"
"Buneary buneary!"Buneary said happily.
Pachirisu checked at the Bubble Seal and Torchic looked at the Seal that contained a red flame design on it.
Torchic looked at Denise.
"Torchic torchic."Torchic tweeted.
"I am definitely choosing the red flame for you, Torchic."Denise stated with a smile. "Luxio, which one do you like? The seal with the yellow bolts or green bolts?"
Luxio looked at the bolt seals and pressed one with his paw.
"Lux luxio."Luxio replied.
Behind the two sisters and their pokemon, Ash and Brock were holding a bunch of bags that held items that the girls wanted to buy.
Pikachu stood below the two boys with a pink box on his head.
"Somebody should be sealing those girls' wallets shut."Ash mumbled with a bored expression.
"Talk about being left with holding bags."Brock added awkwardly.
"Pika pika."Pikachu agreed while sweat dropping.
Dawn and Denise walked up to their companions.
"Okay! All done!"Dawn assured. "No more shopping, guys. I promise."
"Alright!"Ash cheered. "Finally we can get a little training done!"
"And so can we!"Dawn commented. "Now that we have our new seals, let's get to work!"
"There is spot near here next to the ocean that we can do our training."Denise admitted.
"Great!"Dawn chuckled. "Let's go there!"
Later...
Dawn and Denise did some training with Piplup battling against Torchic.
"Alright, Piplup use Bubble Beam!"Dawn ordered.
Piplup fired Bubble Beam towards Torchic.
"Torchic dodge and use Hidden Power!"Denise ordered.
Torchic dodged Piplup's Bubble Beam before using Hidden Power to stop the water attack.
Pikachu, Buneary, Pachirisu and Luxio cheered at their friends.
"Wow! Torchic is getting good!"Ash complemented.
"With great appeal too."Brock added.
"Good work, Dennie."Dawn stated.
"Thanks."Denise answered. "You too, sis."
Suddenly a Phione emerged from the water causing the heroes to become surprised.
"A Phione!"Dawn gasped.
Phione walked up to Buneary and started speaking to her.
"Phione phi!"Phione remarked.
"Bunea?"Buneary asked.
"No way..."Denise started.
"That's the same Phione from last night!"Dawn stated in realisation.
Piplup goes to Phione to greet him, but gets frozen by Ice Beam.
"Piplup!"Dawn shouted. "No!"
Luxio prepared to hit Phione with Spark.
"Hey, Luxio!"Denise protested. "Cool your sparks!"
"Luxio."Luxio muttered and deactivated his Spark.
Piplup shattered the chunk of ice off him as Torchic went up to him.
"Torchic?"Torchic asked.
"Plup..."Piplup answered tiredly.
Suddenly Team Rocket's Magikarp Submarine emerged from the water.
"Not them!"Ash retorted.
The hatch opened causing Team Rocket to appear.
"You've been a naughty little water type."Jessie sneered. "But now after a lengthy search it's back in the pot you go."
"Team Rocket!"Ash scowled. "I'll bet you wanna steal Phione!"
Team Rocket began reciting their motto.
"Go on twerp, take a guess!"
"While we're on the wind…"
"Passing the stars…"
"You'll wish you were as smart as Jess!"
"Bringing chaos at a breakneck pace!"
"Dashing all hope, putting fear in its place!"
"A rose by any other name's just as sweet!"
"When it's worse our work is complete!"
"Jessie!"
"And James!"
"Meowth's the name!"
"Putting you do-gooders in your place!"
"Because we're Team Rocket!"
"In your face!"
"Wobbu!"
"Mime mime!"
Ash, Brock, Dawn and Denise glared at Team Rocket.
"Don't even think about trying to take Phione!"Ash warned.
"Another comedian."Jessie giggled evilly. "The real joke is that Phione is all ours!"
"Then come on Phione."James encouraged with a friendly tone. "Come to Jamesy."
Phione began to back away in fear.
"So you and the boss man will wind up as tinker's eve!"Meowth stated with a evil smile.
Phione steps back from them and when seeing Buneary behind Pikachu, he flipped out and began to yell in anger.
"Phione phione!"Phione shouted.
"Pika?"Pikachu said in confusion.
"Phione phione!"Phione snapped.
"Meowth, do you want to translate that?"Jessie asked.
"Believe it or not, Phione is challenging Pikachu to a battle."Meowth responded.
"Battle?!"Dawn, Denise, Ash and Brock said in unison.
"Phione phione!"Phione yelled.
"Pika?"Pika asked.
"You might wanna sit down for this, but Phione said that whoever wins it gets to be with Buneary to have and to hold."Meowth translated.
"Well, if you had told me that Phione had that kind of moxie I never would've believed it."Jessie retorted.
"Oh, dear!"Dawn squealed in joy. "That's so romantic!"
"His like a guy asking a battle for love."Denise said dreamily.
Luxio and Torchic sweat dropped at what their trainer just said.
Ash looked at the two sisters in confusion.
"Uh..."Ash started.
"A troubled soul searching for love...Phione, I totally understand!"Brock shouted.
"What?!"Ash said in shock.
Pikachu tried to reason with Phione, but the sea drifter pokemon refused to listen to him.
This caused Buneary to go between Phione and Pikachu.
"Buneary!"Buneary demanded and looked at Phione. "Bun bun buneary!"
"Buneary?"Dawn asked.
"Did you get that one too?"James questioned.
"Yeah, Buneary says if Phione has a thing cooking for Buneary then they should do the battling."Meowth translated. "You beat me and I'll go on a date with you down by the ocean."
Phione becomes pleased what Buneary said to him.
"Phi phione!"Phione cheered happily.
"Well, this is worth the price of admission right here."Jessie giggled.
Buneary and Phione went to the sand area near the ocean to have their battle as everyone else watched.
"Listen, Ash."Brock instructed. "It looks like this thing is serious. Knowing that, we've got to see this thing through!"
"Guess your right."Ash responded.
"This is so exciting."Dawn said gently.
Buneary leapt up and started with Dizzy Punch.
"Whoa!"Dawn gasped. "That's Dizzy Punch!"
Phione used Double Team causing Buneary to remove Phione's illusions.
"Hey! That's Double Team!"Ash complemented.
"I'll tell you that Phione knows what it's doing."Brock replied.
Phione used Super Sonic to hit Buneary.
" Here comes a Supersonic!"Meowth pointed out.
"Buneary better dodge it or it's dating time!"James warned.
Buneary quickly jumped out of the way and goes to bounce on Phione, but Phione got into the water and disappeared due to Acid Armour.
"What happened to Phione?!"Ash asked in awe.
"That was Acid Armour."Brock replied.
"Acid Armour?"Denise repeated.
Buneary searched for Phione in the water.
"It's a move that alters the user's cellular structure to liquefy itself and sharply raising it's defence."Brock explained.
Phione jumped out of the water used Super Sonic causing Buneary to be confused.
"Uh oh!"Ash shouted. "Buneary is confused!"
"No! Buneary!"Dawn called out.
Buneary runs off and Piplup tried to stop her, but gets frozen by Phione's Ice Beam once again.
"Torchic melt the ice with Ember!"Denise ordered.
Torchic went up to Piplup and used Ember to melt the Penguin Pokemon out of the ice.
Buneary snapped out of her confusion.
"The confusion wore off!"Brock said.
Buneary fired Ice Beam towards Phione.
Phione used Ice Beam against Buneary's Ice Beam.
"Buneary is using Ice Beam!"Ash gasped.
"Against Phione's Ice Beam!"Dawn added.
Though the two pokemon create an ice sculpture, Phione began to be exhausted, allowing Buneary to bounce off and defeat him.
"And that's it!"Brock announced and rushed to Phione. "Hey, you okay?"
"Phione."Phione said sadly.
"That's a relief."Brock responded. "Listen, I really don't think you should be battling anymore."
Phione goes up to Buneary in sadness.
"Phione."Phione sighed.
"Bun buneary."Buneary apologised gently.
"Phione phione."Phione answered.
"Alright, what's the current fuss?"Jessie asked.
"Phione's saying goodbye."Meowth translated.
Phione sadly walked away from Buneary and headed to the ocean.
"Goodbye!? Just a minute!"Jessie snapped. "We're not going to let your personal problems get in our way!"
"Deal with them on your own time!"James retorted.
"Get back here on the double!"Jessie demanded.
Team Rocket goes after Phione causing Dawn, Ash and Denise to glare at them.
"Man, Team Rocket."Dawn growled.
"Those creeps."Denise muttured.
"We got to do something!"Ash stated.
Buneary, Pikachu and Luxio went in front of Phione to protect him.
"What are you going to do!?"Jessie questioned. "Stop us with cute?!"
"Buneary use Ice Beam!"Dawn ordered.
Phione and Buneary both used Ice Beam to freeze Team Rocket.
"Pikachu, Thunderbolt!"Ash ordered. "Let's go!"
"Luxio, you got your chance!"Denise warned. "Use Spark!"
Pikachu used Thunderbolt and Luxio used Spark to sent Team Rocket blasting off in the sky.
Later that Day...
Phione sadly swam away in the ocean as the heroes watched him go.
"Poor Phione sure looks lonely."Dawn said sadly.
"Your right."Ash agreed.
"I guess falling in love can be painful sometimes."Denise commented.
"I feel it's pain!"Brock cried. "The pain of lost love!"
Buneary hopped forward and started calling out to Phione.
"Bun buneary!"Buneary shouted. "Bun bun buneary!"
Phione looked at Buneary before becoming happy.
"Phione!"Phione replied and nodded. "Phione!"
"Hey Dawn, what did Buneary say to Phione?"Ash asked.
"Buneary told Phione to cheer up because they be battling one of these days."Dawn responded.
Brock and Ash became surprised while Denise smiled.
"Really?"Ash and Brock asked in unison.
"That's wonderful."Denise said with a relieved smile. "And I bet Phione will find his special someone someday."
"Your right, Dennie."Dawn giggled and looked at Buneary. "That would be great, isn't Buneary?"
"Buneary!"Buneary nodded and jumped into Dawn's arms.
Pikachu, Piplup and Torchic all yelled good-bye to Phione.
Phione happily swam in the ocean as his two fellow Phiones arrived and joined him.
"Look Phione's buddies!"Ash chuckled.
"That's quite a welcoming party."Dawn commented.
Denise nodded. "Totally is."
