Chapter 125: Frozen On Their Tracks!
Having left Snowpoint City behind, the heroes were now aboard a train leading to Lake Acuity, where Ash was due to have his full battle against Paul.
"A full battle tomorrow between me and Paul."Ash commented. "Guess what? I'm going to beat him so bad and he'll never forget it!"
Ash's shout of determination to win caused a man to drop the lunchboxes he was carrying which made Brock, Ash, Dawn, Denise and Lucas quickly caught them before they dropped on the floor.
"Oh boy!"the man chuckled as he stood up. "I'll tell ya that some voice you have. I sure was startled."
"I am so sorry."Ash apologised. "Are you alright?"
"Don't worry."A man assured. "I'm fine."
Denise looked at Ash with a frown on her face.
"Geez Ash, next time you should keep the exciting for the battle instead of letting it out randomly."Denise suggested with a frown.
"Right, Dennie."Ash chuckled with a sheepish smile.
"No doubt about that."Dawn giggled.
"Pika."Pikachu agreed.
Lucas smiled at the man.
"Hi, Looker."Lucas greeted with a smile. "It's been a while."
"It sure has been, Lucas."Looker agreed.
This caused Ash, Denise, Dawn and Brock to look at Lucas.
"You two know each other?"Denise asked.
"Yeah."Lucas responded. "We've met in Jubilife City after I won my first Gym Badge. Apparently, we both spotted two Team Galactic grunts trying to steal research findings from Professor Rowan. But thanks to my Monferno, I was able to defeat those grunts' pokemon and made them retreat."
"Whoa."Denise chuckled. "That's awesome, Lucas."
"Torchic."Torchic tweeted with a nod.
"Box lunches? Didn't they come at the train station?"Brock asked. "You've got quite a collection, I see."
"They're so good that I couldn't resist."Looker remarked. "I've got plenty so you can keep those."
"But how could we after we startled you like that?"Brock asked.
"It's okay! It's okay!"Looker assured. "It's not like I ordered too many or panicking because I couldn't find my wallet or almost miss the train or anything crazy like that!"
Ash, Denise, Lucas, Brock and Dawn smiled at Looker.
"Thanks."Ash thanked. "That's really nice of you to do. By the way, my name is Ash."
"Pika Pikachu."Pikachu said.
"Hi, my name is Dawn."Dawn responded.
"Prinplup."Prinplup chirped.
"My name is Denise."Denise replied. "I'm Dawn's twin sister."
"Torchic."Torchic tweeted.
"And my name is Brock."Brock added.
"Hello, my name is Looker like Lucas said."Looker said and looked at the three passengers that sat the other side of the train. "Would you three like some too? I hear these things are very delicious."
"A freebie for us?"James asked.
"Thanks!"Meowth remarked. "We eat strangers to accept any gifts from strangers."
"Zero modesty is a slow price to pay for free food."Jessie complemented.
James, Jessie and Meowth started quickly eating the lunch boxes.
"It seems all the passengers on the train has one."Looker declared and looked at the bag he was holding. "But I still have more of these left to do with."
Looker had a thoughtful look on his face as Denise spoke up.
"Maybe you should give them to those who are moving the train."Denise suggested.
"Of course."Looker agreed. "There is still the conductor, the engineer and the assistant pokemon too. That should get rid of them all."
Looker walked away as the heroes watched him.
"Assistant Pokemon?"Ash asked.
"I think there is an electric type pokemon working on this train."Brock responded.
"An electric type?"Ash asked. "Sounds cool."
"I wonder what pokemon it is."Dawn said excitedly.
"Ninetales."
Brock, Ash, Dawn, Denise and Lucas notice a pokemon approaching them.
It was a fox-like, quadrupedal pokemon covered in thick, luxurious golden-white fur. It had a small mane of thicker fur around its neck and a long fluffy crest atop its head. It had slender legs with three-toed paws and nine, long tails with pale orange tips. It hasd red eyes, pointed ears and a triangular black nose.
"Who is that pokemon?"Dawn asked.
"It's a Ninetales."Brock replied.
Denise took out her pokedex to scan Ninetales.
"Ninetales the Fox Pokemon."Denise's Pokedex said. "Its nine tails are said to be imbued with a mystic power. It can live for a thousand years."
"Whoa."Denise said in astonishment. "This pokemon can live for a thousand years?"
"Indeed, young lady."A man agreed as he walked behind the Ninetales.
The man had dark blue hair and dark brown eyes. He wore a beige trench coat, a long sleeved white shirt, a grey vest, a red ascot tie and black trousers and shoes.
"Hello there, I'm Detective William Shirogane."the dark blue haired man responded. "But all of you can call me, Bill and this is my partner, Ninetales."
"Hi."Denise greeted with a wave.
"Hello."Brock, Ash, Dawn and Lucas said in unison.
Ninetales gave Pikachu, Prinplup and Torchic a friendly respond and the trio returned the gesture.
"Are all of you travelling to Lake Acuity?"Bill asked.
"Yes, sir."Ash agreed. "I'm going to have a full battle there against my rival."
"Well, good luck to you and all of you stay safe."Bill instructed. "There has been a villainous team targeting the lakes in Sinnoh recently."
"You mean Team Galactic?"Lucas guessed.
"You know about them?"Bill questioned in surprise.
"We have countered them a few times."Denise exclaimed.
As the train travels on to Lake Acuity, the driver tells his Pokémon, an Ampharos, to use Thunderbolt.
"Steeping line ahead."the driver said. "Ampharos use Thunderbolt."
Ampharos uses Thunderbolt to power up the train as the Conductor, Looker, Bill and the heroes watched.
"Thunderbolt confirmed."the Driver declared as the train moved. "Full speed ahead and now we are all cleared. Excellent work, Ampharos."
Ampharos gave his trainer a positive respond.
"Awesome."Dawn remarked. "So Ampharos is helping engine the train."
"Ampharos, wow."Ash said as he took out his pokedex.
"Ampharos the Light Pokemon."Ash's Pokedex buzzed. "The tip of its tail shines so brightly that in days gone by, people used it to send signals to each other with the light."
"Ampharos is a big help."the Conductor stated. "When it comes to things like travelling to steep implies or stopping at a full stop, Ampharos is an indispensable pokemon in our team."
"They work great together too."Ash added.
"Here, these are for you."Looker admitted as he picked up his plastic bag. "Please, enjoy."
"Thank you so much."the Conductor responded as he took the bag.
"Confirming stop signal."the Driver announced. "Stopping."
Looker gives the boxed lunch to the Conductor when the driver suddenly stopped the train as the signal ahead was set at red for danger.
"I don't get it."Dawn said.
"Prinplup."Prinplup chirped.
"You see the light up ahead?"Looker asked. "It's red."
Bill looked at the driver.
"How about contacting the Command Cetnter to see the trouble that is going on?"Bill suggested.
"Good idea, Detective Shinogane."the Driver agreed.
The Driver picked up the phone to contact the Command Center and then ended call when he got his respond.
"Understood, thanks very much."the Driver answered and placed the phone down before looking at the group. "According to the Command Center, no trouble has been reported to signal the red light. But there is no mechanical malfunction either."
This caused glares to grow on both Looker and Bill's faces.
"But it's strange that there is a red signal for no reason."Denise commented.
"Torchic."Torchic agreed.
"It's possible that there could be some sort of trouble that hasn't been reported yet."the Conductor suggested. "I'll go check it out."
"Please, do."the Driver insisted.
"I'll go with you."Looker admitted.
"Your going to go too, Looker?"Lucas asked.
"Yes."Looker replied. "I've always wanted to take a walk to this gorgeous area. Alright then, shall we?"
"Yeah."the Conductor answered.
The conductor and Looker headed out of the train as Bill looked at the group.
"You all should stay here."Bill exclaimed. "Just in case, if there is any trouble."
"Right."Ash, Brock, Dawn, Denise and Lucas agreed in unison.
"I'll make sure the other passengers know what's going on."the Driver stated.
"Okay, driver."Bill said with a nod. "Me and Ninetales will stay here."
"Come on, Ampharos."the Driver ordered.
Ampharos followed the Driver out of the engine room.
"At the mean time, why don't we have lunch?"Brock asked.
"Great idea."Dawn remarked. "I can't wait to try the lunches that Looker gave us."
"Me too."Denise agreed. "I'm getting hungrier just thinking about it."
Pikachu, Prinplup and Torchic cheered excitedly as Ash looked at Bill.
"Is that okay if we have lunch outside, Bill?"Ash asked.
"Go on ahead."Bill encouraged. "You can't travel in empty stomachs."
"Thanks."Lucas thanked and looked at his friends. "Let's go, guys."
Ash, Brock, Dawn, Denise and Lucas headed out to have their lunches as Bill and Ninetales glanced at each other.
"I don't know why Ninetales, but I am getting a bad feeling about this situation."Bill commented. "Be prepared for any idea of kind trouble."
Ninetales nodded. "Ninetales."
Outside...
Brock, Ash, Dawn, Denise and Lucas eat their lunches outside and let all of their pokemon out of their pokeballs for a while.
Lucas brought Riolu out to share his lunchbox with him.
"So nice and tasty."Ash murmured.
Dawn nodded in agreement.
"Yeah."Brock agreed.
"The sushi with the wasabi flavour was great too."Lucas complemented.
"My top favourite was the rice salad."Denise chuckled and looked at her pokemon. "Return, everyone."
Denise stood up and returned Torterra and her pokemon into their pokeballs except Torchic.
"Happiny."Happiny giggled.
"Are you feeling nice and full, Happiny?"Brock asked and looked at his other pokemon. "Sudowoodo? Croagunk? How about you?"
"Sudowoodo."Sudowoodo answered happily.
"Croagunk."Croagunk croaked with his blank expression.
"Alright, let's get ready for our match against Paul!"Ash stated confidently.
Pikachu, Chimchar, Buizel, Gliscor and Staraptor all spoke in agreement.
Suddenly a strong wind appeared which revealed to be Team Rocket with a new suction machine attached to their balloon that sucks up everyone's pokemon, besides Grotle and Mamoswine.
"Pikachu!"Ash shouted. "Everyone!"
Bill gasped at the sight as Ninetales growled angrily at the evil trio.
"What's going on?!"the Driver demanded.
Team Rocket laughed evilly as they removed their disguises and began reciting their motto.
"One's thing for sure is certainly not you!"
"You drive train but look what we do!"
"On the Wind!"
"Pass the Stars!"
"Get a Clue!"
"Bringing chaos at a break neck pace."
"Dashing hope, putting fear in it's place."
"A rose by any other name is just as sweet."
"When everything's worse, our work is complete."
"Jessie!"
"And it's James!"
"Meowth, now that's a name!"
"Putting the do-gooders in their place..."
"Team Rocket!"
"We're in your face!"
"Wobbuffet!"
"Mime! Mime!"
"Team Rocket!"Ash and Denise shouted angrily.
"Not you guys again!"Brock retorted.
"Give us our pokemon back!"Dawn demanded.
"Grotle!"Grotle snapped.
"Spew your none sense when your asleep!"Jessie taunted.
"We'll give them back as soon as you grow up!"James sneered.
"If you really think we give up these cuties when things are going our way, you don't deserve them in the first place!"Meowth cackled.
Suddenly a rock was thrown onto Meowth's head causing him to be knocked out causing Lucas to smile at Denise.
"Nice throw."Lucas chuckled.
"Shut it, hairball!"Denise scowled in annoyance. "Your laughter is getting on my nerves!"
"Twerps can be such downers when things are looking up except for one."Jessie muttered.
"Yep."James and a weak Meowth agreed in unison.
"How dare you do this to my passengers!"the Driver shouted.
"You imbeciles have no right to steal their pokemon!"Bill growled.
"Ninetales!"Ninetales barked with a glare.
"Let's not forget we were passengers as well, choo choo chuckle head and second rate detective!"Jessie insulted.
"This customers are always right!"James snickered.
"We just decided to switched to a ride with a little more kick!"Meowth sneered.
"A wise pick!"James and Jessie agreed.
Team Rocket made their balloon go up to make their getaway.
"Ampharos get the passengers' pokemon back at once!"the Driver ordered. "Use Signal Beam!"
Ampharos use Signal Beam on the balloon.
"Quick!"Brock protested. "Now's your chance to escape and land onto the grass!"
"Our flock moved out of the vault!"Jessie shrieked.
"I'll stop them out cold!"Meowth cackled and pressed a button on a remote.
Most of the pokemon to escape, but Pikachu, Prinplup, Torchic and Happiny get caught in a net.
Lucas gritted his teeth in anger as Riolu frowned at Team Rocket.
"Pikachu!"Ash shouted.
"Torchic!"Denise gasped. "No!"
"Prinplup!"Dawn cried out.
"Happiny!"Brock yelled out.
"Oh no!"James panicked. "Our stolen stack sprung a leak!"
"Well, also in this world you can take what you can get!"Jessie scoffed.
"Ampharos, don't let them escape!"the Driver ordered.
Ampharos went on the train and jumped up to the net.
"Do it, Ampharos!"the Driver instructed. "Destroy the remote control!"
Ampharos fired Signal Beam to destroy the remote control.
However, it doesn't work and Ampharos only creates a hole in the balloon, sending them all flying away together with Team Rocket.
Ash, Dawn and Brock quickly returned their pokemon into their pokeballs as Ninetales started sniffing the air.
"Ninetales."Ninetales said gently.
Ninetales started heading into the forest.
"Where is Ninetales going?"Lucas asked.
"Ninetales said they landed in the forest, but they haven't landed on a far side."Bill exclaimed.
"That's good."Denise responded. "Then led the way."
Ash looked at the Driver.
"Don't worry, we'll get our pokemon back!"Ash assured.
"No, wait!"the Driver protested. "It's too dangerous!"
"Instead of being concerned about us, you got to get in touch with the Conductor."Brock suggested.
Ash, Denise, Lucas, Dawn and Brock headed to the forest with Bill and Ninetales leading the way.
Meanwhile...
Ampharos was able to use Thunder Punch on the net, freeing Pikachu, Prinplup, Happiny and Torchic.
Pikachu, Prinplup, Happiny and Torchic thanked Ampharos for setting them free.
"Pika pika."Pikachu thanked.
"Prinplup."Prinplup chirped.
"Happiny."Happiny giggled.
"Tor torchic."Torchic tweeted.
Ampharos nodded at his friends.
"Hey!"Jessie shouted. "And where do you think your going?!"
"We net you in a proper manner and you decide to go?!"James complained. "That's plain rude!"
Suddenly Team Rocket and the balloon fall to the ground, knocking them out as the five pokemon ran into the forest.
At Another Side of the Forest...
Bill and Ninetales continued running with Ash, Denise, Lucas, Dawn and Brock following from behind.
Ash and Denise brought Staraptor and Noctowl out so that the two flying types can search for their missing pokemon in the sky.
"Pikachu!"Ash called out.
"Torchic!"Denise shouted.
"Prinplup!"Dawn yelled out.
"Happiny!"Brock called out.
"Staraptor, Noctowl, did you two find them?"Ash questioned.
Both Staraptor and Noctowl shook their heads.
"Then try looking over there!"Denise instructed. "We'll check the other side!"
Staraptor and Noctowl headed to the direction that Denise pointed them to go to.
Dawn took out Buneary and Brock took out his Sudowoodo to help with the search as well.
"You guys help find the others too!"Dawn and Brock ordered in unison.
Buneary and Sudowoodo nodded at their trainers as Lucas looked at Riolu.
"Riolu, go join Buneary in the search."Lucas instructed.
Riolu nodded and jumped on the trees to follow Buneary.
Ninetales walked a few inches forward and sniffed the ground before barking at Bill.
"Nine ninetales!"Ninetales barked.
"Ninetales has their scent, kids!"Bill assured. "It's this way!"
The group followed after Ninetales to find the missing pokemon.
Ampharos, Pikachu, Prinplup, Happiny and Torchic looked at the directions in front of them.
The five pokemon immediately encounter an angry flock of Fearow, which started pursuing them.
Ampharos, Pikachu, Prinplup, Happiny and Torchic come to a cliff and have no choice but to jump in order to escape.
After seeing the coast was clear, the five pokemon continued their journey to find their trainers and soon see a big boulder blocking their way.
Pikachu, Ampharos and Torchic tried to move the boulder, but they weren't able move to it.
"Prin prinplup."Prinplup requested with a confident expression.
Prinplup tried to use his Bubble Beam to make the boulder move, but the attack failed.
"Prinplup prinplup!"Prinplup complained angrily.
Prinplup used Whirlpool to move the boulder, but his next attack also didn't have any success.
"Prin!"Prinplup huffed in annoyance. "Prinplup prinplup!"
"Happiny!"Happiny giggled.
Happiny walked forward and ultimately uses her strength to move the boulder before placing it on the river below.
The Playhouse Pokemon looked at her companions, who appeared to be stunned by her incredible strength.
"Happ happiny."Happiny encouraged with a smile.
Happiny continued walking as Ampharos, Pikachu, Prinplup and Torchic looked at each other before following after her.
Buneary and Riolu jumped from tree to tree while Ninetales and Sudowoodo searched in the ground.
The Rabbit Pokemon frowned when something caught her attention causing her to land next to Ninetales, Riolu and Sudowoodo before the four of them started running.
"Buneary!"Dawn shouted.
"Sudowoodo!"Brock called out.
"Riolu!"Lucas yelled out.
"Looks like something caught Ninetales and your pokemon's attention!"Bill complemented.
Staraptor and Noctowl suddenly called out to their trainers before flying away.
"Looks like Staraptor and Noctowl did too!"Ash added.
"Let's hurry!"Denise said firmly.
Ampharos, Pikachu, Torchic and Happiny happily walked while Prinplup was feeling completely tired.
As Happiny joyful sang, Prinplup started glaring at her.
"Prinplup prinplup!"Prinplup complained.
Suddenly Ampharos, Pikachu, Torchic, Happiny and Prinplup landed into a hole which revealed to be a trap from Team Rocket.
"Welcome to our den world!"Jessie giggled evilly.
"A world filled with pit falls, pit traps and digging sensing traps is what we do best!"James added. "So it's back to the basic times!"
"Yeah, basically your not going anywhere!"Meowth laughed.
Ampharos, Pikachu, Torchic and Prinplup prepare to fire their attacks.
"No, you don't!"Meowth sneered.
Meowth took out a weapon and fired a green bag to capture the five pokemon.
"From pit bag and two seconds to last!"James, Jessie and Meowth said in unison.
"And it's Pikachu escape prove!"Jessie snickered.
"The deal is no matter what type of bubble head gets caught in this bag, stays put in this bag!"Meowth added.
"How Meowth likes to brag!"James sneered. "So it's time for a hasty retreat!"
Suddenly Staraptor broke the bag with Aerial Ace causing Team Rocket to become shocked.
Ampharos, Pikachu, Torchic, Happiny and Prinplup came out of the green bag and see their friends running to the scene.
"You said it was rip prove!"Jessie argued.
"Did I?!"Meowth said nervously. "I was talking by myself! Forgot about Staraptor's Aerial Ace!"
Ampharos, Pikachu, Torchic, Happiny and Prinplup rushed to their trainers.
"Pikachu!"Ash said happily. "Ampharos!"
Pikachu smiled. "Pika pi!"
"Prinplup, are you okay?"Dawn asked.
"Prinplup."Prinplup chirped happily.
"Torchic!"Denise remarked and Torchic jumped into her arms. "I am so glad your safe!"
"Torchic."Torchic tweeted and blushed a little.
Happiny went up to Brock.
"Thank goodness your alright, Happiny."Brock commented.
"Happiny."Happiny giggled.
Bill and Ninetales glared at Team Rocket.
"I am arresting you three for stealing and kidnapping these trainers' pokemon!"Bill stated with a glare.
"Ninetales!"Ninetales growled angrily.
"As if!"Jessie scowled. "We'll just take them back by force! Seviper, let's go!"
"Carnivine, you too!"James admitted.
Seviper and Carnivine came out of their pokeballs, but the Bug Catcher Pokemon started biting James' head.
"You can bite later, but first get them!"James demanded.
"Alright Seviper, Poison Tail!"Jessie ordered.
"Carnivine, Vine Whip!"James ordered.
Seviper and Carnivine charged towards the detective and the heroes.
"Ninetales use Mystical Fire!"Bill ordered.
Ninetales sent Mystical Fire at Seviper and Carnivine before Sudowoodo attacked them with his new move, Hammer Arm.
Seviper and Carnivine landed near Team Rocket.
"Seviper!"Jessie shrieked.
"Back at the fight, Carnivine!"James demanded.
"Whoa, what fire attack was that?"Lucas asked in awe.
"A move that I taught Ninetales from another region."Bill stated with a hint of pride.
"Cool."Denise chuckled.
"But what was the move that Sudowoodo just did?"Ash questioned.
"That's Hammer Arm!"Brock commented. "Sudowoodo, you learned Hammer Arm! That's excellent!"
"Sudowoodo!"Sudowoodo said with a smirk.
"Go get them!"Jessie and James ordered in unison.
Seviper and Carnivine charged towards the group.
"Pikachu use Thunderbolt!"Ash ordered.
"Torchic, Fire Spin!"Denise ordered.
"Riolu use Screech!"Lucas ordered.
Pikachu, Torchic and Riolu fired their attacks at Team Rocket causing the evil trio to be sent blasting off into the sky.
"WE'RE BLASTING OFF AGAIN!"Team Rocket screamed and disappeared in the sky.
Later that Evening...
Ash, Dawn, Denise, Lucas, Brock and Bill returned to the train, where the Driver and the Conductor were waiting for them.
"Hey, guys!"Ash called out. "We're back!"
"Sorry, we took so long!"Denise apologised.
"We have Ampharos and the pokemon back safe and sound!"Lucas commented.
"Wow that is great news."the Driver remarked.
"Hold on, where is Mr Looker by the way?"the Conductor asked.
"Hello."Looker greeted as he walked forward. "Sorry, I'm late. I was really taken by the beautiful scenery."
"That's good to hear, Looker."Bill agreed. "A few pokemon were taken away while you were gone, but we have them back now."
Inside the Train...
With the signal and junction set correctly, Ampharos was ready to move the train again to Lake Acuity.
"Green light confirmed."the Driver said. "Ampharos use Thunderbolt."
Ampharos uses Thunderbolt to make the train move again.
"Thunderbolt, confirmed!"the Driver declared. "Now off we go!"
Lucas and Riolu stared at the view outside.
"Right on time."Lucas complemented
Riolu let out a gentle respond before he started to sleep in his trainer's lap.
"It sure is great to be moving again."Dawn giggled.
"Prinplup."Prinplup agreed.
"Great."Denise chuckled. "That means we will be at Lake Acuity first thing tomorrow."
Torchic smiled. "Torchic."
"Now it looks like we'll be able to reach the Pokemon Center just in time for your match."Brock admitted.
"Awesome!"Ash said excitedly and stood up. "I can't wait to battle Paul!"
"Pika pika!"Pikachu cheered.
Looker, Bill and Ninetales walked up to the heroes.
"Oh, I see your having a Pokemon battle in Lake Acuity."Looker commented. "Make sure to enjoy the view."
"And good luck with your battle,Ash."Bill stated.
The two men and the fire type pokemon walked away as Brock, Ash, Dawn, Denise and Lucas looked at each other.
Later...
At the back of the train's carriage, Looker and Bill talked to each other.
"I take it that during your walk you found something that made the train stop, isn't Looker?"Bill questioned.
"Yes, Bill."Looker answered firmly. "It appears Team Galactic is actively been working around here and transferred something to Lake Acuity using the rail system."
Looker takes out a piece of paper that he found in the warehouse, which carried Team Galactic's logo.
"This is strange."Bill complemented. "They recently targeted both Lake Verity and Lake Valor for some reason. What could they be after?"
"I don't know, but I think it's best to continue our investigation."Looker stated.
