Chapter 129: Promoting Healthy Tangrowth!
In a Forest...
Denise sat down writing on her journal as she leaned against a tree.
"It has been a few days since Ash had his battle against Paul and I got to admit it is nice to see that his back the way he used to be. Ash is a kind, enthusiastic and passionate guy that shows a lot of sympathy towards pokemon which is one of the things I like about him. But why do I hesitate to say three little words to him? I like you. Is it because I'm scared what his answer will be?"
Denise thought for a moment before she continued writing in her journal.
"Or maybe because I like Paul? Well, I don't know what to say. He is the opposite of Ash and usually makes me mad because of his actions...but I don't hate him. All this is weird. I am only 10 years old and already thinking of having a boyfriend. It'll be fine. I can keep a secret or two. But there's some truths in life that are hard to hear and you'll know them when you get older."
Denise stopped writing on her journal when Torchic walked up to her.
"Torchic?"Torchic asked.
"I'm just writing down some private things in my journal, Torchic."Denise responded and fed Torchic a blue poffin with her free hand. "Here. Do you like it? It's a dry poffin."
Torchic ate the blue poffin causing him to become happy by its yummy taste.
"Tor torchic!"Torchic tweeted happily.
Denise smiled at her fire type pokemon before bringing her attention on her sister and friends.
"Mamoswine! Spotlight!"Dawn called out.
Dawn threw out her capsule ball causing Mamoswine to come out.
"Mamoswine!"
"Wow!"Ash remarked. "Is Mamoswine going to compete in the contest?"
"Yeah, but first the trick is to come up with a fancy move that will allow Mamoswine to strut his stuff and impress the judges."Dawn explained.
"Prinplup."Prinplup agreed.
"Mamoswine, are you ready to go?"Dawn asked.
Mamoswine looked away from his trainer causing Ash and Pikachu to sweat drop.
"Mamoswine's always Mamoswine."Ash said sheepishly.
Dawn smiled at Mamoswine.
"See in a contest we have to win battles, but we're also judged on how beautiful our moves are."Dawn explained. "So let's work hard and learn the flashiest contest moves that we can!"
Denise and Torchic freaked out and quickly moved out of the way as Mamoswine rammed his tusks into the tree causing it to shake and let loose several green leaves.
"Okay."Dawn said and swear dropped. "But that's not exactly what I meant..."
Mamoswine began scratching the trunk of the tree with his tusks.
"It doesn't look like that Mamoswine is really into contests, sis."Denise commented as she placed her journal away.
"I guess so..."Dawn said as she sweat dropped in embarrassment.
"Maybe if you tried demonstrating a beautiful contest move that would inspire Mamoswine, you know?"Brock suggested.
"Great idea!"Dawn replied with a snap of fingers and looked at Prinplup. "Hey Prinplup, help us out okay?"
Prinplup nodded. "Prinplup."
"Mamoswine, turn around and look at us for a second, please?"Dawn asked.
Mamoswine listened to his trainer and looked at her.
"Now Prinplup use Bubble Beam!"Dawn ordered.
Prinplup fired Bubble Beam in the sky to make it as a circle, which gets Mamoswine's attention.
"See?"Dawn asked. "Don't you think contest moves are pretty Mamoswine?"
Mamoswine narrowed his eyes at Dawn before looking away causing Prinplup to glare at him.
"Prinplup!"Prinplup complained. "Prinplup!"
"Hey, why don't youtry using a move too?"Dawn asked and Mamoswine opened one eye to look at her. "And don't worry, your moves are really pretty so you have every reason to be confident, okay?"
"Mamo."Mamoswine answered.
"Alright then!"Dawn cheered. "Let's start things off by using Ice Shard towards the sky!"
Mamoswine looked at the sky and prepared to activate Ice Shard.
"Now shatter that ball of ice with your tusks!"Dawn ordered.
Mamoswine used Ice Shard towards the sky and shattered it with his tusks which impressed everyone.
"Whoa!"Ash said in amazement.
"Pika!"Pikachu remarked.
"Wow! That was beautiful!"Dawn stated in amazement.
Denise notice the amazed look on Mamoswine's face causing her to look at Torchic.
"It seems Mamoswine is starting to enjoy doing beautiful moves, isn't Torchic?"Denise questioned.
"Torchic."Torchic responded with a nod.
"I have to say that was a really good move for a first attempt."Brock admitted.
"Yeah."Ash chuckled with a smile. "A keeper for sure."
"Pika!"Pikachu cheered.
"Now let's do it again, Mamoswine!"Dawn encouraged. "But this time do a little twirl before you shatter that ice! That'll break the ice into smaller pieces and it'll look prettier! Okay? Go!"
Having never done this before, Mamoswine ends up breaking the Ice Shard on his head.
"Mamoswine, are you okay?!"Dawn asked worriedly.
Mamoswine notice two pieces of the ice got stuck in his nose, causing Pikachu, Prinplup and Torchic to start laughing.
"That's not funny, Prinplup!"Dawn snapped.
"Torchic stop laughing."Denise ordered with a frown.
Mamoswine blowed the pieces of ice out of his nose, but they bounce off a tree and hit him in the head causing Pikachu, Prinplup and Torchic to laugh even harder.
Irritated, Mamoswine lost his temper and chased after Pikachu, Prinplup and Torchic for laughing, only to be stopped by Dawn when they hide behind her.
"Stop it!"Dawn demanded. "That's enough, Mamoswine!"
Feeling humiliated, Mamoswine runs off into a nearby forest.
"Wait!"Dawn protested. "Come back, Mamoswine!"
Dawn started running after Mamoswine causing Denise and Torchic to follow after her.
"Dawn!"Denise called out. "Hold on!"
"Torchic!"Torchic chirped.
Ash glared at Prinplup and Pikachu for laughing at Mamoswine.
"Prinplup! Pikachu!"Ash scowled. "You three shouldn't be laughing at Mamoswine when he was trying to do his best!"
Pikachu and Prinplup bowed their heads in shame.
"Prin prinplup."Prinplup said quietly.
"Pika pikachu."Pikachu responded sadly.
In the Forest...
Dawn, Denise and Torchic were looking for Mamoswine.
"Mamoswine!"Dawn called out. "Where are you?!"
"Dawn! Look!"Denise whispered. "Over there!"
Dawn, Denise and Torchic see Mamoswine hiding in a pile of bushes.
"I think your a little bit too big to hide in there."Dawn commented and walked up to Mamoswine. "I've been looking for you."
Mamoswine huffed and angrily looked away from Dawn.
"Come on, let's go back."Dawn encouraged. "I've got a poffin for you."
Denise and Torchic went next to Dawn.
"Sorry that Pikachu, Prinplup and Torchic laughed at you, Mamoswine."Denise apologised and frowned at Torchic. "Isn't that right, Torchic."
"Torchic."Torchic agreed with a sad expression.
Suddenly Mamoswine became alarmed and glared at something in the path in front of them.
"Hey, what's wrong?"Dawn asked.
"Mamoswine."Mamoswine answered with a glare.
Torchic became alarmed as well and glare alongside Mamoswine.
"Tor torchic!"Torchic chirped angrily.
"Mamoswine and Torchic says that there is something there."Denise stated.
Suddenly Dawn, Denise, Mamoswine and Torchic looked up and saw a Tangrowth swinging in the trees.
"Tangrowth!"
"What pokemon is that?"Dawn asked as she took out her pokedex.
"Tangrowth the Vine Pokemon."Dawn's Pokedex buzzed. "Tangrowth captures its prey by extending its arms, which are made of vines."
Suddenly the Tangrowth started attacking the two sisters and their pokemon.
"Hey!"Denise snapped. "What was that for?!"
Mamoswine tried to defend himself with Ice Shard, but Tangrowth easily dodged the attack.
"Come on, Mamoswine! No fighting!"Dawn demanded. "Same with you, Tangrowth!"
Mamoswine uses Ice Shard, which collided with Tangrowth's Bullet Seed.
Dawn, Denise and Torchic closed their eyes from seeing the colliding attacks.
Mamoswine charged with Take Down, but Tangrowth quickly went on top of a tree.
"Looks like we have no choice but to defend ourselves!"Dawn exclaimed. "Mamoswine use Ancient Power!"
Mamoswine used Ancient Power, but Tangrowth dodged and used Poison Jab on Mamoswine.
"We'll help too then!"Denise insisted. "Torchic use Ember!"
Torchic fired Ember at Tangrowth, who quickly jumped on the trees to dodge the fire attack and make it's escape.
"That Tangrowth is fast without a doubt!"Denise retorted.
"Mamoswine, quick!"Dawn ordered. "Use Ice Shard!"
Mamoswine recovered and used Ice Shard, cutting down a branch and making Tangrowth fall down.
Mamoswine charged, so Tangrowth affects it with Absorb causing him to fall down on the ground.
"Mamoswine!"Dawn cried out in worry. "What happened?!"
"That Tangrowth must've absorbed all of his energy."Denise said with a frown.
Tangrowth placed a Sitrus Berry near Mamoswine before waving good-bye and swinging away.
Dawn noticed Tangrowth dropped a Sitrus Berry.
"A Sitrus Berry?"Dawn said.
"I've heard of those berries."Denise complemented. "It can restore a pokemon's health and it is smoother tasting than a Oran Berry."
Mamoswine eats the Sitrus Berry, which startles Dawn a little bit causing Denise to grab her sister from falling.
After eating the Sitrus Berry, Mamoswine regained his health and stood up.
"Let's head back."Denise suggested. "I bet Ash and Brock are wondering why are we taking so long."
"Torchic."Torchic tweeted.
"Good idea, Dennie."Dawn agreed. "Let's go back."
Dawn, Denise and Torchic prepared to head back, but they notice Mamoswine was not moving.
"Come on, Mamoswine."Dawn responded. "It was just a wild pokemon. I'm sure it is out of the story by now."
Mamoswine shook his head causing Dawn to become angry.
"Stop being such a brat!"Dawn argued. "I told you to give it up this instant!"
Mamoswine huffed and ignored Dawn.
"Fine!"Dawn snapped. "Do what you want! As for us, we're going back!"
Dawn and Mamoswine began to walk away from each other causing Denise and Torchic to sigh in disappointment.
"Come on, Dawn."Denise scoffed. "You and Mamoswine should be getting along. His your pokemon and your his trainer."
"Torchic."Torchic answered with a frown.
"Hey, your right."Dawn said and began to ran after Mamoswine. "Mamoswine! Come back!"
Dawn, Denise and Torchic began to follow Mamoswine, who was determined to get his revenge on Tangrowth.
Later that Day...
The two sisters and Torchic continued looking for Mamoswine as the sun began to set down.
While searching for Mamoswine again, Dawn sees a pokemon hiding in the bushes.
"Mamoswine!"Dawn giggled and tapped the pokemon. "Never guess who's here."
"Dawn, don't-"Denise started in shock.
Dawn thinks she spotted him in the bushes, but actually disturbed a feeding Ursaring.
The wild Ursaring proceeded to attack Dawn, Denise and Torchic with Hyper Beam.
Luckily, Mamoswine showed up knocking Ursaring with Take Down and sending it away.
Denise looked at Torchic, who she held safely in her arms.
"Torchic, are you okay?"Denise asked.
"Torchic."Torchic tweeted in relief.
"Wow!"Dawn remarked in relief. "Thanks so much, Mamoswine!"
Mamoswine ignored his trainer and continued walking away causing the two sisters and Torchic to follow after him.
"Mamoswine, are you still looking at the Tangrowth?"Dawn asked. "I know you really hate to lose and that must've made you really upset as well. I hate losing too so you and I are much alike."
Mamoswine stopped walking and looked at Dawn.
"Hey, here's an idea."Dawn commented. "Why don't we help you look for Tangrowth?"
"Mamoswine."Mamoswine replied with a nod.
"Good idea, sis."Denise agreed. "But your forgetting something. The sun is going down now."
Dawn looked up in the horizon and saw the sky was starting to become darker.
"It's gotten really dark, hasn't?"Dawn said.
"I just hope we haven't made Ash and Brock worry a lot."Denise reminded as she held Torchic, who was asleep in her arms. "Torchic, return."
Denise returned Torchic in his pokeball before looking at Dawn.
"Dawn, I think we should find somewhere to rest for the night."Denise insisted.
Dawn nodded. "Yeah."
Mamoswine stopped walking and sniffed a scent which earned his attention.
"What's wrong?"Dawn asked.
Suddenly Mamoswine used his tusk to place Dawn onto his back and together they took off running deeper into the forest.
"Hey! Wait up!"Denise protested and threw out a pokeball. "Torterra, come on out!"
The pokeball opened causing Torterra to come out and appear near Denise.
"Torterra!"
"Torterra follow Mamoswine."Denise ordered and went on Torterra's back. "I have feeling his going to get into trouble."
"Torterra."Torterra answered with a nod.
Torterra began to follow after Mamoswine as Denise sat on his back.
"I think Mamoswine just got Tangrowth's scent."Dawn admitted.
Dawn, Denise, Mamoswine and Torterra see a Bellsprout, a Cherrim, a Seedot and a Shroomish, which all proceeded to stop them in their tracks.
Cherrim attacked using Razor Leaf, Seedot used Bullet Seed while Bellsprout and Shroomish absorbed Mamoswine's power.
"That's the Absorb move that Tangrowth did!"Dawn said in realisation.
Then Bellsprout offered Mamoswine a Sitrus Berry to heal him.
Suddenly Mamoswine quickly recovered and charged ahead, scattering the forest pokemon away.
Mamoswine halted himself advance at a giant tree that had a few vines around it.
"Whoa!"Dawn gasped. "What a gigantic tree!"
Denise and Torterra arrived in the area and notice the gigantic tree.
"We made it."Denise exclaimed and notice the tree. "Check out that tree, Torterra!"
"Terra."Torterra said in surprise.
Then Tangrowth and the other Grass types emerged from the tree hollow causing Dawn and Denise to go off of Mamoswine and Torterra's backs.
"There's Tangrowth."Dawn said quietly.
"So all of those forest pokemon are it's friends."Denise suggested.
Mamoswine insisted on a rematch while stamping his foot in anger.
"Mamoswine, can't you see that Tangrowth doesn'twanna battle with you?"Dawn asked.
Mamoswine began to take a few steps forward and ignored his trainer as the forest pokemon stood behind Tangrowth in fright.
"Mamoswine, stop it!"Dawn protested.
Denise notice Torterra preparing to fight Mamoswine, but his trainer placed her hand out to him.
"Hold on, Torterra."Denise instructed. "Let's give Dawn a chance to figure this out."
Mamoswine and Tangrowth stared at each other.
But then the Twin Tusk Pokemon looked away when he understood Tangrowth's situation.
Dawn exhaled with relief and put a hand on her chest.
"Thank goodness, I'm so glad that's over with."Dawn remarked in relief.
"Dawn!"Ash's voice called out. "Denise!"
The two sisters turned around and spotted Ash, Brock and a woman dressed in a Forest Ranger uniform running towards them.
"Hey guys."Denise chuckled. "You found us."
Prinplup rushed over to Dawn to hug her.
"Prinplup."Prinplup chirped.
"Hey Prinplup."Dawn giggled with a smile.
The woman notice Tangrowth near the gigantic tree.
"It's Tangrowth!"Verona exclaimed.
"Who's she?"Dawn asked.
"See her name's Verona and she's a Forest Ranger."Brock explained.
"Yeah, she's awesome."Ash admitted. "She's been trying to help us find you two."
"Thank you."Denise answered gratefully. "Sorry if we have caused you any trouble."
"Don't worry, I'm just glad you're both alright."Verona assured with a smile.
"So what's with the huge tree?"Ash questioned.
"Pika."Pikachu said.
"This tree actually watches over and protects the forest."Verona explained as she looked at the tree. "It's over a 1000 years old and its roots are spread out deeply for miles and miles."
When the moon came out from behind a cloud, Tangrowth motioned for the group to follow after it.
The group followed Tangrowth and saw that the tree was split in half, probably due to a recent thunderstorm, threatening the health of the entire forest.
"Oh no."Verona said quietly.
"The tree's been split into two."Dawn commented.
"It must've been struck by lightning the other day. This is terrible."Verona responded worriedly. "That poor tree won't make it at this rate."
"What?"Brock asked with a frown. "But if this tree dies, won't the entire forest go with it?"
Denise looked at Torterra.
"This tree looks like it's in real pain."Denise said sadly.
"Torterra."Torterra agreed with a firm look.
The group notice Tangrowth using Growth on the tree, making the group realise its intentions all along.
"That's a move."Brock replied. "It's called Growth."
"Of course."Verona remarked. "It's obvious that Tangrowth was going around draining pokemon of their power so it could use that power to save this tree."
"And that's why it left those sitrus berries afterwards."Dawn added in realisation.
"So that the pokemon would recover after their power was drained."Ash said with a smile.
Denise smiled. "I guess that explains everything."
Then the Bellsprout, Cherrim, Seedot and Shroomish began to follow Tangrowth with the same move but realise that there isn't enough energy in them.
"It's gonna take a lot of work."Ash complemented.
"There must be something we can do to help."Denise suggested.
"Tangrowth, I'd like to help you!"Verona stated.
Tangrowth looked at Verona with a curious look.
"Tan tan?"Tangrowth asked.
"You see, I want to save this tree and protect the forest just like you do."Verona declared.
Tangrowth eagerly accepted the Forest Ranger's assistance.
"Tan tangrowth!"Tangrowth answered happily and waved its hands a bit.
"Tangrowth, thank you."Verona said with a grateful expression.
Suddenly Team Rocket showed up in their vacuum machine, sucking up all the Grass Pokemon.
"What is that?!"Verona demanded.
Team Rocket gave a quick respond from inside the vacuum machine.
"Don't you know great when you see it?"Jessie asked.
"Of course to know great, you must beit!"James admitted.
"And great you don't fake!"Meowth cackled.
"Team Rocket!"Ash growled. "What are you doing here?!"
"Give those pokemon back right now!"Dawn demanded.
"Sticky fingers!"Jessie and James taunted.
"Yeah!"Meowth sneered evilly. "And we're holding tight to those pokemon cause we got our brand new Mega Serious Suction Vacuum Mark Two!"
"Another machine made by the usual idiots!"Denise retorted and ordered Torterra to attack. "Torterra use Heavy Slam!"
"Mamoswine use Take Down!"Dawn ordered.
Torterra and Mamoswine attacked the vacuum machine with their attacks, but nothing happened.
"Ooh that kinda tickles."Jessie snickered.
"You see?"Meowth laughed. "The skin on dis baby's three times as absorbent, dig?"
"That's three times the power to clean up messy things like you!"James insulted.
Ash looked at Dawn and Denise.
"Dawn, Dennie, let me help too."Ash suggested.
"That's sweet of you, Ash."Denise replied. "But let us take it from here! Torterra use Heavy Slam again!"
"Mamoswine, Take Down, again!"Dawn ordered.
Torterra and Mamoswine attacked the vacuum machine with the same attacks, but nothing happened.
"Give it a rest."Jessie scoffed.
"After all, our armour is currently ten times thicker than before!"James bragged.
"I'd like ta know where you get yourstats!"Meowth said nervously.
"Come on, Mamoswine! You can do it!"Dawn encouraged. "Focus all of your power on one point on that thing!"
Mamoswine's tusks glow yellow and light blue circles appear in between his tusks and circle around them.
"Check it out!"Ash said.
"That's hidden power!"Brock admitted.
"Awesome! Mamoswine just learned Hidden Power!"Dawn said happily. "Okay then, go for it!"
Mamoswine fired orb circles at Team Rocket's machine causing it to crack a little bit.
"Torterra, your turn!"Denise stated. "Use-"
Suddenly the three mountains on Torterra's shell glowed green and matching energy beams extended from their tips.
The beams wrapped around the vacuum machine's body and began draining its energy causing them to recede back into Torterra's shell.
"Oh my gosh!"Denise said in amazement. "That was Giga Drain!"
"Torterra learned a new move too!"Ash commented.
"Pika!"Pikachu cheered.
"Silly twerps!"Jessie giggled and became nervous when she heard more cracking noises around the machine. "Uh oh..."
"I could've sworn the armour's a hundred times thicker than before..."James gulped.
"Threetimes, you dope!"Meowth panicked. "Dial it down!"
When Torterra's draining stopped, Tangrowth moved away from the machine holding the other pokemon as a bit of steam came out of the machine.
"Mamoswine use Hidden Power again!"Dawn ordered.
Mamoswine used Hidden Power to Team Rocket's vacuum machine again causing to explode which sent the evil trio blasting off.
"Are we blasting off faster or is it me?!"Jessie questioned.
"Yes!"James answered. "By a thousand!"
"Will you stop cooking the speed record books?!"Meowth argued.
"Wobbu!"Wobbuffet responded.
"WE'RE BLASTING OFF AGAIN!"Team Rocket screamed as they disappeared in the night sky.
The Next Morning...
Torterra let's Tangrowth drain a bit of his power with Absorb before he was given a Sitrus Berry as a reward.
"Mamoswine."Mamoswine insisted.
"Tangrowth?"Tangrowth asked.
"Wow Mamoswine, you wanna offer up your power to help out too?"Dawn asked.
Mamoswine nodded and lets Tangrowth use Absorb on him.
Tangrowth rewards Mamoswine with a Sitrus Berry and the two of them smiled at each other.
Dawn smiled. "Looks like those two are good friends now."
"Prinplup."Prinplup chirped.
"I found it!"Verona remarked. "The spot on the tree that contains all of its nutrients! So quick, everyone! Use Growth right here!"
Tangrowth, Bellsprout, Seedot, Shroomish and Cherrim all came around and fired Growth at where Verona was pointing to restore the tree back to its original form.
"Wow."Ash said in amazement.
"Pikachu."Pikachu whispered.
"The tree should be fine now."Verona suggested.
"Thanks to Tangrowth and the others."Ash stated.
"Now the forest will be saved for good."Denise responded kindly.
"Torchic."Torchic tweeted with a smile.
Verona looked at Tangrowth.
"So from now on Tangrowth, let's protect the forest together."Verona insisted.
"Tangrowth."Tangrowth agreed.
Dawn looked at Mamoswine.
"Mamoswine, let's you and I figure out a way to use that awesome Hidden Power of yours in our next contest, okay?"Dawn suggested.
"'Mamoswine."Mamoswine replied.
Denise smiled at Torchic and Torterra.
"The same goes with us, guys."Denise chuckled with a confident smirk. "Let's do our best too in the next contest. Torterra, let's practice that Giga Drain for the battle round."
"Torterra."Torterra answered with a firm look.
