Chapter 140: Try for the Family Stone!

While on the way to Sunyshore City, Ash and his friends find themselves lost in a deep forest.

"It's strange."Brock declared as he checked on his Pokegear. "I'm almost certain we're on the right path."

"Murkrow!"

Ash, Dawn, Denise and Brock looked up and saw a Murkrow on top of a tree.

"Look!"Dawn said and pointed at the dark type pokemon. "It's a Murkrow!"

Murkrow looked at the four heroes for a moment before taking off in the sky.

"You know what they say?"Brock said. "Something bad may happen when a Murkrow flies over your head late at night."

"Something bad?"Denise repeated with a nervous smile.

"Wow."Dawn said worriedly. "It's bad enough that we're already lost, but now something worse is gonna happen?"

"Nah, that's nothing but superstition."Ash stated with a smile. "Plus it's not even night yet."

"Yeah, that's true."Brock agreed with a smile.

"Being superstitious is just plain silly."Dawn remarked.

"Prinplup."Prinplup chirped.

"I guess so."Denise replied lightly.

"Torchic."Torchic tweeted.

Suddenly, the ground began to shake causing the heroes to become alarmed.

"Ash, I think you may have spoken too."Dawn declared.

The sound of stomping footsteps becoming louder and a wild Groudon appeared above the heroes causing them to become shocked.

"What pokemon is that?!"Denise demanded as she took out her pokedex.

The wild Groudon was about to attack with its claw, but Ash quickly grabbed Denise as they made their escape with their friends.

The four heroes stopped running to catch their breaths when they notice the legendary ground type was no longer in sight.

"I think we are all safe now."Brock panted.

"Man, I didn't expect to see Groudon again."Ash sighed.

"Groudon?"Denise said in confusion.

"Is one of those legendary pokemon that I saw during my Hoenn journey."Ash exclaimed.

"Oh no!"Dawn panicked.

Ash, Denise and Brock followed Dawn's gaze, only to see a rush of water flowing down the path and they were washed away in the rapids.

"Come on!"A girl's voice protested. "Snap out of it, please!"

Ash, Dawn, Denise and Brock woke when they notice that they weren't being washed away anymore.

"Hold on."Ash responded. "What just happened?"

"What you all just experienced was an illusion caused by Murkrow's Confuse Ray."the bright green haired girl explained.

Brock suddenly became lovestruck and pushed Ash away to flirt with the girl.

"Hi, I'm Brock and I'm not really confused!"Brock flirted as he held the girl's hand. "I'm sure your beauty is as real as real gets unless you somehow could be an illusion that Murkrow's Confuse Ray created too!"

Croagunk attacks Brock with Poison Jab causing the breeder to collapse before being dragged away.

The bright green haired girl sweat dropped as Dawn and Denise looked at her.

"Don't give it a second thought."Dawn exclaimed. "It happens all the time."

"It's also known as a daily routine."Denise added.

"I'm Ash."Ash introduced.

"I'm Dawn."Dawn responded.

"And my name is Denise."Denise replied. "I'm Dawn's twin sister."

"I'm Rhyanna."the bright green haired girl answered. "And you're welcome, I live in a village very close to the forest."

"Rhyanna, thank you so much for helping us out."Dawn thanked.

Brock went between his friends and Rhyanna causing them to sweat drop at him.

"So, how did you know we were seeing illusions?"Brock questioned.

"You recovered fast."Denise grumbled.

"Well there's a reason for that."Rhyanna explaoned. "I know because that Murkrow is my brother's Pokemon."

Ash, Dawn and Denise gasped at the green haired girl's revelation.

"I'm so sorry for what happened."Rhyanna apologised. "If there's anything I can do to make it up to you, please just tell me."

The four heroes then sit down to listen to Rhyanna's problem.

"Tell me."Ash suggested. "Why do you think your brother would go do something like that?"

"It's a long story."Rhyanna responded with a hint of sadness. "The truth is, he's never been like this before. To tell you the truth I haven't got the foggiest idea what's made him change like this. Mitchell is a Pokemon Trainer like me. Whenever we have the time, we always used to battle each other. Mitchell and I were constantly competing against each other, so I guess, in a way that made the two of us true rivals. One day, Mitchell suddenly decided to go up on the mountain and train with Murkrow, and that's when he started playing pranks on travellers, like you four."

"Aw, man."Ash mumbled.

"Did you ask your brother why he acts like that?"Dawn asked.

"He's always avoiding me, so I can't."Rhyanna replied. "Whenever, I try talking to him, he just runs away. That's why I am looking hard for a Dusk Stone."

Rhyanna took out her cyan blue pokedex to show the four heroes an image of a Dusk Stone.

"Dusk Stones are one of the evolutionary stones that help some pokemon evolve, right?"Denise suggested.

"Right."Rhyanna agreed. "There should be a Dusk Stone somewhere in the forest. I'm going to use it to evolve my Misdreavus into a Mismagius."

"Why do that?"Ash asked.

"It's what I heard from Grandpa."Rhyanna replied. "He said Mismagius can chant spells that may bring people happiness. Now maybe if I were to use that spell on Mitchell then-"

"Then perhaps you and Mitchell will make up, right?"Brock finished.

"Do you really think Mitchell would be happy with a spell?"Dawn asked.

"Don't know."Rhyanna said with an saddened expression. "But I've kinda run out of ideas."

All the sudden, Brock broke into another love struck mode.

"Now, Rhyanna, wipe the sorrow from those pretty eyes!"Brock encouraged. "Ah, if only I could rid you of your sadness for just a little while! Of course! The only thing for me to do, Rhyanna, is pitch in and help you!"

"You will?!"Rhyanna said with a grateful smile. "Oh, I'm thrilled!"

A while later, Rhyanna lead the four heroes to a shrine, where near it might be some Dusk Stones left.

"Rhyanna, what's that?"Brock questioned.

"Grandpa told me about that too."Rhyanna admitted as she smiled at the shrine. "Back when he was young, he said people used to mine Dusk Stones somewhere near this shrine."

"Wow!"Dawn remarked. "Maybe there are some of them left!"

"The problem is I've looked around here severaltimes, but I've never found anything."Rhyanna stated sadly.

"Don't worry."Denise assured with a smile. "We'll help you find the Dusk Stones."

"Yeah."Ash agreed. "Let's split up and have a look."

Rhyanna smiled. "Thanks so much."

"Alright, Ash, Dawn and Denise, why don't you three look over there?"Brock said as he pointed east.

"Right/Got it/Sure."Ash, Dawn and Denise said in unison.

Ash, Dawn and Denise headed to the direction where Brock pointed them to go to before the breeder looked at Rhyanna.

"Okay, how about this?"Brock suggested. "Let's ask your Misdreavus to come out and give us a hand while we look for it."

"Misdreavus, why?"Rhyanna questioned.

"Murkrow and Misdreavus are the only Pokémon that evolve with a Dusk Stone." Brock explained. "So maybe Misdreavus might be able to find it."

"Wow, I never even thought of that."Rhyanna responded as she pressed her chin in thought. "It sounds like it just might work. Okay! Let's do it now! Misdreavus, go!"

Rhyanna threw out her pokeball and it caused Misdreavus to come out.

"Would you please help us find a Dusk Stone?"Rhyanna asked.

Misdreavus nodded. "Misdreavus."

The Screech Pokemon floated off in search of a Dusk Stone and within moments it seemed to hone in on a very specific location.

"I think Misdreavus is sensing something."Rhyanna stated.

"The let's go check it out."Brock insisted.

Rhyanna and Brock followed after Misdreavus to the Dusk Stone's location.

Meanwhile…

Ash, Dawn and Denise walked together to look for a Dusk Stone with Pikachu, Prinplup and Torchic accompanying them.

"Now Prinplup, if you find a Dusk Stone, you let us know right away, alright?"Dawn asked.

Prinplup smiled. "Prinplup."

Suddenly Mitchell's Murkrow flew forward and tapped Torchic on the head causing the Chick Pokemon to get angry and hit him back with Ember.

"Ah!"Ash gasped. "That is Mitchell's Murkrow!"

Murkrow tried to fly away, but got hit by Torchic's Ember and fainted on the ground.

Then Mitchell showed up and rushed over to his knocked out pokemon.

"Murkrow! No!"Mitchell shouted and glared at the trio as he picked up Murkrow in his arms. "Alright, what are you doing to my Murkrow?!"

"Sorry about that, but my Torchic got upset when Murkrow attacked him."Denise explained and looked at Torchic. "Torchic, say sorry to Murkrow."

"Torchic!"Torchic tweeted with a frown.

Torchic huffed and turned his head to left, not wanting to apologise to Murkrow.

"Torchic says sorry."Denise assured with a sheepish smile.

"Now hold on a minute, Dennie."Ash instructed and looked at Mitchell. "You two just snuck up on us."

"So you're Mitchell?"Dawn added as she and Prinplup glared at the young bou. "Why do you pull pranks on people like that?!"

"Knock it off!"Mitchell shouted.

"Your sister is worried about you."Ash admitted.

Mitchell scoffed at the mention of his older sister.

"Ha! Give me a break!"Mitchell retorted. "She doesn't care about me at all!"

"Hey! Now that's a lie!"Dawn argued with a glare. "She's been trying to find a Dusk Stone because she wants to evolve her Misdreavus into a Mismagius to try and make you happy with its spells, see?"

Mitchell became surprised but his expression immediately changed into an angry one before he started running away causing Ash, Dawn and Denise to follow after him.

"Come on, Mitchell!"Ash demanded. "Wait up!"

Ash grab a hold of Mitchell's wrist to stop him from running more.

"Let me go!"Mitchell snapped and Ash released him. "I need to find the Dusk Stone before my sister does!"

"But Rhyanna is already looking for the Dusk Stone in the first place is to help you out."Dawn admitted.

"Rhyanna doesn't care about me!"Mitchell scowled. "The only reason she wants to evolve her Misdreavus into a Mismagius is so she can beat me every time we battle and that's all!"

Denise looked at Ash and Dawn.

"That isn't what Rhyanna has told us."Denise commented.

"What makes you think like that anyway?"Dawn asked.

"Okay."Mitchell sighed before he started telling his side of the story. "See, every time we battle, Rhyanna always beats me. Obviously I want to beat her, so I decided to go train up on the mountain and become stronger. I wanted to train Murkrow by learning cool new moves like Wing Attack, but it got angry and started causing illusions using Confuse Ray. And that's it. Now Murkrow won't listen to a single thing I tell it."

"Wait."Dawn instructed. "Are you saying that you had nothing to do with Murkrow's Confuse Ray or any of those illusions we saw?"

"Right! Nothing!"Mitchell said with a glare. "If you wanna know the truth, the whole thing is Rhyanna's fault, period!"

"I don't think you should blame Rhyanna for the trouble, Mitchell."Denise stated honestly. "It sounds that you've been treating Murkrow harshly without thinking what it really wants."

"You need to think more about your pokemon's feelings."Dawn added.

"Yeah."Ash agreed. "You're never going to become stronger unless you work as a team. Maybe you should focus on Murkrow's feelings instead of yours."

Kitchell's eyes widen as he realised how harshly that he has been treating Murkrow and looked at his pokemon with tears in his eyes.

"I…I've never thought of that."Mitchell sobbed in shame. "I'm so sorry, Murkrow. I was angry that I couldn't beat Rhyanna, so I took it out on you. It must've hurt getting hit all those times."

One of Mitchell's tears landed on Murkrow's face and the Darkness Pokemon slowly opened it's eyes.

Misdreavus continued leading Rhyanna and Brock, only for the duo to slide down the cliff and hit the ground below.

Rhyanna and Brock recovered from their fall as they looked around.

"Where are we?"Rhyanna asked. "I've never seen this in the forest."

"Do you think this was the place your grandfather was talking about when he said they used to mine for Dusk Stones around here?"Brock suggested.

Misdreavus floated over to a large rock and looked at it as Rhyanna and Brock stood up.

"Misdreavus, something over there?"Rhyanna said.

Brock grabbed a large tree branch and used its leverage to lift the large rock up.

"Rhyanna, look!"Brock remarked. "A Dusk Stone!"

Upon getting the rock away, Rhyanna and Brock see a Dusk Stone underneath the ground.

Rhyanna smiled and picked up the Dusk Stone.

"We found it!"Rhyanna cheered. "It's a Dusk Stone!"

"So we did."Brock replied.

"Thank you!"Rhyanna thanked and hugged Brock making the breeder blush. "I never would've found it if it wasn't for you and all your hard work!"

"Well, thanks to Misdreavus!"Brock declared bashfully.

Misdreavus flew toward a bush and gets caught by a net that belonged to Meowth.

"Misdreavus!"Rhyanna shouted.

Meowth shook Misdreavus inside the net.

"You're grounded, pal!"Meowth laughed.

Jessie and James appeared out of a bush.

"Happiness in a net!"Jessie laughed.

Rhyanna glared at the evil trio.

"Now who in the world are you supposed to be?!"Rhyanna demanded with a glare.

Team Rocket began reciting their motto.

"We're out of this world, can't you tell by our suave demeanor?"

"Our grass is always greener!"

"On the wind!"

"The stars!"

"Neener neener!"

"Happy searching at a breakneck pace!"

"Dashing hope with a smile on my face!"

"Joy by any other name's just as happy!"

"While you twerps are so sappy!"

"Jessie!"

"And James!"

"Meowth that's name!"

"Putting the do-gooders in their place!"

"We're Team Rocket!"

"In your face!"

"Wobbuffet!"

"Mime mime!"

Brock looked at Rhyanna.

"They're Team Rocket and they're a less than successful."Brock said. "They're disastrous bunch of crooks!"

"Give me back my Misdreavus, now!"Rhyanna demanded.

"No."Jessie pouted rudely. "You think I'm turning over my happiness to a twerp with a tude?"

"We're soon to evolve this Misdreavus utilizing a Dusk Stone."James exclaimed. "And then Mismagius will happy us to our heart's content."

"One Dusk Stone please!"Meowth ordered evilly. "And make it fast!"

"No way!"Rhyanna snapped as she clenched the Dusk Stone in her fist. "Misdreavus, rip the net and come here!"

"This may come as a shock, but..."Meowth started and pressed a button on a net.

Misdreavus tried to break free from the net, only to get electrocuted.

"No!"Rhyanna shouted in worry. "Misdreavus!"

"Sudowoodo!"Brock shouted as he threw out his pokeball. "Come out now!"

Brock's pokeball opened causing Sudowoodo to appear.

"Sudowoodo!"

"Sudowoodo save Rhyanna's Misdreavus!"Brock ordered.

Sudowoodo rushed toward Team Rocket to save Misdreavus as Jessie looked at Meowth.

"Meowth, let's get that Dusk Stone and dust those dum-dums, stat."Jessie suggested.

"Where it's at!"Meowth responded as he took out a black remote control with a red button on it. "I'm down with this dilemma! So I've brought my happy place robo-remote! Emote!"

Ash, Dawn, Denise and Mitchell see a giant Pidgey mecha heading towards Team Rocket's location.

"I've never seen a Pidgey that big!"Mitchell exclaimed in awe.

Ash, Dawn and Denise looked at each other since all of them knew that the Pidgey mecha belonged to Team Rocket.

The Pidgey mecha arrived near the mine as Rhyanna and Brock watched.

"That can't be a Pidgey!"Rhyanna denied.

"It's Team Rocket's robot!"Brock replied.

The Pidgey mecha landed in front of Sudowoodo causing it to freak out a bit.

"It's into the Porta-Pidgey Mk II for you!"Meowth sneered.

Meowth tossed the unconscious Misdreavus into the Pidgey mecha's belly before Team Rocket leaped into the robot to take control of it.

"Misdreavus is trapped!"Rhyanna shouted.

"Sudowoodo use Double Edge!"Brock ordered.

Sudowoodo rushed toward the Pidgey mecha to attack it.

"Meowth, do you have a plan?"Jessie asked.

"Everything I have learned about Pidgey, I programmed it into the Porta-Pidgey Mk II including an awesome Gust like you wouldn't believe!"Meowth remarked as he pressed a few buttons of his mecha.

"I have a fan of your work, Meowth."James assured. "But this is silly."

Sudowoodo uses Double Edge to attack the machine though Meowth releases a giant fan which cancels the attack.

"Wow."Jessie complemented. "I say if it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

"Don't give up, Sudowoodo!"Brock encouraged. "Use Double Edge again!"

Sudowoodo recovered and charged again as the Pidgey mecha brought its robot hands to form a giant broom.

"Next, Sand Attack!"Meowth laughed. "I love stirring tings up!"

Sudowoodo tried to attack again, but gets swept by Sand Attack from the robot.

"How do you create doom and gloom with a broom?"James asked.

"That way since it's working!"Jessie answered.

"And now it's that time ta shoot a wing!"Meowth admitted.

"A wing?"James said curiously. "Surely you speak of Wing Attack, yes?"

"No, a wing!"Meowth stated and pushed up on a large gray lever. "Watch while I hit da gas! Wow, what a blast! Rocket Wing away!"

Meowth releases the Pidgey mecha's right wing, which knocked Sudowoodo out.

"Excellent!"James commented. "I love when you speak literally!"

"So let's get our gloves on that Dusk Stone and glide away!"Jessie insisted.

"Okay!"Meowth replied and pressed one more button. "Time to play!"

Brock rushed forward and returned Sudowoodo back in his pokeball.

"Sudowoodo, return!"Brock ordered.

"Give back!"Rhyanna shouted. "Let go!"

Rhyanna struggled to take the Dusk Stone from Team Rocket.

"Stop!"Rhyanna snapped. "Let go!"

"Hand over the Dusk Stone and you can have your hands back!"Meowth called out.

"I'll never let go!"Rhyanna shouted angrily.

Rhyanna then started screaming as she was lifted off the ground due to her refusal to release the Dusk Stone and the Pidgey mecha started going up.

"Rhyanna!"Brock called out.

"Those twerps just don't tire!"James stated.

"Meowth, the time has come to drop her midair!"Jessie encouraged.

"That sounds fair!"Meowth remarked.

The Pidgey mecha began to fly up as Ash, Dawn, Denise and Mitchell come and see the trouble.

"I knew it was Team Rocket!"Ash scowled.

"Jerks."Denise muttered coldly.

Mitchell gasped seeing Rhyanna in trouble.

"Rhyanna!"Mitchell shouted.

"You can't have Misdreavus and you're not getting the Dusk Stone!"Rhyanna yelled. "I need them both to make Mitchell feel happy again and that's that!"

"Ash! Denise!"Brock called out. "Misdreavus is trapped inside that robot!"

Dawn looked at Ash and Denise.

"You two got to stop them!"Dawn instructed.

Ash and Denise notice Pikachu was warming up a Thunderbolt and Torchic prepared to unleash Fire Spin.

"Pikachu!"Ash protested. "You can't use Thunderbolt!"

"Don't attack either, Torchic!"Denise responded. "Misdreavus is in there!"

"Staraptor, I choose you!"Ash declared.

"Noctowl, come out too!"Denise ordered.

Ash and Denise threw out their pokeballs causing Staraptor and Noctowl to appear.

"Staraptor!"

"Noctowl!"

"Go help Rhyanna!"Ash and Denise ordered in unison.

Staraptor and Noctowl flew away to get Rhyanna and Misdreavus out.

"I wanna help too!"Mitchell admitted and threw out his pokeball. "Murkrow, come out!"

Mitchell's pokeball opened and Murkrow came out.

"Murkrow!"

"Murkrow, work with Staraptor and Noctowl to save Rhyanna!"Mitchell ordered.

Murkrow didn't move and just kept lookijg at its trainer.

"Please, Murkrow, for me!"Mitchell begged. "Save my sister!"

Mitchell's look became more desperate as Murkrow still didn't move.

"Murkrow?"Mitchell asked.

Murkrow smiled. "Murkrow!"

Murkrow flew off to join the other two flying-types to help rescue Rhyanna.

"We're free to move about the cabin!"Jessie cheered.

"This is without a doubt one of the happiest flights that I have ever flown!"James remarked.

"Here we go!"Meowth cackled.

While Staraptor gets Rhyanna as Noctowl used Aerial Ace to break the robot arm to free the green haired girl which caused Team Rocket to panic.

"Not our Dusk Stone!"Jessie shrieked.

Rhyanna grabbed the Dusk Stone as Strapator and Noctowl flew back to their trainers.

"I feel my happiness slipping away!"Jessie complained.

"Meowth, unslip it!"James ordered.

"U-join coming up!"Meowth announced.

The Pidgey mecha started heading down as Staraptor gently placed Rhyanna back on the ground in front of her younger brother.

"You're safe."Mitchell said in relief.

"But they got Misdreavus!"Rhyanna stated.

The heroes notice Misdreavus was still trapped inside the Pidgey mecha.

"We can't use Thunderbolt and Fire Spin with Misdreavus inside."Ash exclaimed.

"There's gotta be a way still."Denise replied.

"Murkrow, go free Misdreavus!"Mitchell ordered.

Murkrow shatters the glass area of the Pidgey mecha to free Misdreavus, shocking Team Rocket.

"Now Pikachu use Thunderbolt!"Ash ordered.

"Torchic, Fire Spin!"Denise ordered.

Pikachu and Torchic prepared to unleash their attacks which started to make Team Rocket nervous of what was going to happen next.

"How come I get the feeling we're all leaning into a punch?!"Meowth asked nervously.

"Cause we are!"James panicked.

"Oh, my poor exquisitely beautiful face!"Jessie whined.

Using Thunderbolt and Fire Spin, Pikachu and Torchic blasted Team Rocket away.

"WE'RE BLASTING OFF AGAIN!"Team Rocket screamed and disappeared in the sky.

"We did it, Rhyanna!"Mitchell cheered.

Rhyanna and Mitchell laughed as they happily hugged each other for their victory.

Afterwards…

The four heroes went next to the mine with the two siblings.

"I think this will be a good time to talk."Brock declared. "Since it was misunderstanding and nothing more."

"Rhyanna, I'm sorry."Mitchell apologised.

"No, I'm the who should be sorry."Rhyanna responded. "I assumed those pranks were yours."

Rhyanna took out the Dusk Stone.

"So what should we do with this stone?"Rhyanna asked. "I don't need to evolve Misdreavus into Mismagius anymore because I don't need a happiness spell anymore."

"Hey! How about who wins the most battles out of ten gets the stone?"Mitchell asked.

"Yeah!"Rhyanna agreed. "Great idea!"

"Let's do it!"Mitchell chuckled.

Brock, Dawn, Ash and Denise smiled at the sight in front of them.

"It is nice to see they are getting along just like a family should."Ash remarked.

"Yeah."Dawn responded. "And they are training really hard."

"Prinplup."Prinplup chirped.

"Hopefully, they won't argue again."Denise complemented. "They are siblings after all and should never fight each other."

Torchic smiled. "Torchic."
