Chapter 147: A Meteoric Rise to Excellence!

Flashback…

A six year old Denise was making her way to Lucas' house while holding a sack that had her homemade bunny shaped sugar cookies inside it.

"I have no doubt that my cookies are the best to eat."Denise remarked confidently. "The moment Lucas takes a bite from one of these, he won't stop eating them."

Denise suddenly heard a rattling noise and notice a trash can moving by itself.

"Huh?"Denise said in confusion.

Then a wild Trapinch burst out from it, horrifying Denise.

"Ahhh!"Denise shrieked and hit the floor. "It's a wild pokemon! Please don't eat me!"

The frightened little girl suddenly heard a munching sound and saw the Trapinch was eating her cookies.

"Hey!"Denise gasped in shock. "Those cookies were specially made for my friend!"

The wild Trapinch then finished eating the cookies and gives Denise a choppy smile.

"Never mind."Denise whined in defeat and sweat dropped. "I'll make him a fruit cake next time."

The wild Trapinch walked up to Denise and gives her the last piece of cookie.

Denise looks at the cookie in her hand and ate it.

"Mmm! Its delicious!"Denise murmured in delight and looked at Trapinch. "For a tiny yet scary pokemon, I guess you're kind of cute."

The wild Trapinch then walked past Denise and jumped into a ground, disappearing from sight.

"Bye!"Denise said with a wave. "Hope to see you again someday!"

Ash and his friends were taking a route to Daybreak Town before they stopped to look where they were.

"Looks like we're lost again."Denise scoffed. "We really need to stop these habits."

"Combusken."Combusken sighed.

"So what do we do now?"Dawn asked worriedly. "Did we take the wrong way?"

"Prinplup."Prinplup chirped.

"Good question."Brock agreed and checked his Pokegear. "The Pokegear isn't able to find any nearby roads either."

"Man. So, which way do we go? Left or right?"Ash said as he folded his arms and got an idea. "We go full speed ahead!"

Suddenly, the group see a display of Draco Meteor appear in the sky.

"What in the world is that move?!"Dawn asked in awe.

"Prinplup!"Prinplup chirped.

"Let's go check it out!"Denise insisted.

"Combusken!"Combusken agreed.

Ash, Denise, Brock and Dawn head off to the direction where they saw the Draco Meteor appear.

But as they headed off, a rustling noise was heard in a bush and a Pokemon came out.

It was a small, bipedal dragon-like Pokémon that was primarily blue, had a big mouth filled with sharp teeth and arms that start at the outer edges of its jaws. A red underbelly stretched from its abdomen to the bottom of its jaw. It also had two horns that resemble jet or plane engines, each with a light blue stripe in the middle. It had a single light blue stripe wrapping around its back. On top of its head was a dorsal fin, which has a notch on it since it was a male.

It was a Gible!

"Gib?"Gible said curiously.

The heroes rushed over to find an old woman named Wilma and a powerful Altaria practicing the Draco Meteor attack.

They watched as Altaria puts its wings in front of its body then holds them out and an orange light appears inside of its chest. The rest of its body also glows orange. It then holds up its head and an orange ball of energy appears in front of its beak.

It then fired the ball into the sky and the ball exploded, releasing multiple orange spheres in the sky.

The group freaked out when the meteors were landing where they stood.

Ash, Denise, Brock, Dawn, Pikachu, Prinplup and Combusken then stood up once the meteor shower ended.

"Is everybody alright?"Ash asked.

"Pikachu."Pikachu murmured with a nervous smile.

"We all are fine, Ash."Denise replied. "Though we almost ended up being hit by those meteors."

Combusken frowned. "Combusken."

"What was that all about?"Dawn asked.

"Prinplup."Prinplup muttered.

Wilma and her Altaria then walked up to the young trainers.

"Excuse me, children."Wilma said. "What are you doing out here?"

"We we're walking to the forest, but then we saw this strange light in the sky."Ash explained.

"It's called Draco Meteor."Wilma admitted. "It's not strange."

"Draco Meteor?"Dawn repeated.

"Then that means it was a work of a Pokemon?"Brock assumed.

"Then the Draco Meteor was from your Altaria."Denise commented.

Dawn took out her Pokédex to scan Altaria.

"Altaria the Humming Pokémon and the evolved form of Swablu."Dawn's Pokédex buzzed. "As Altaria flies across the sky, it resembles a soft cloud. It hums using its high voice."

"I believe fate it was what brought us together."Wilma remarked. "I'm Grandma Wilma. It's nice to meet you."

"Hi."Ash greeted. "I'm Ash."

"Pika pikachu."Pikachu responded with a wave.

"Nice to meet you."Dawn remarked. "I'm Dawn."

"Hello, I'm Denise."Denise responded. "I am Dawn's twin sister."

"Combusken."Combusken chirped.

"Pleasure."Brock commented. "I'm Brock."

After the introductions, the heroes sat down listening to Wilma and drinking cups of green tea while Prinplup, Pikachu and Combusken played with Altaria.

"So you only teach Dragon types?"Ash said.

"Right."Wilma agreed with a smile. "A trainer left his Altaria with me, so I can teach it Draco Meteor. But it's just a beginner, so who knows where the meteors fall. Of course, you can see why no one is allowed to pass through here."

"Yeah. I sure can."Dawn said. "We're really sorry that we barged in."

"The important thing is that everyone is in one piece."Wilma complemented and looked at Altaria. "Isn't that right, Altaria?"

"Altaria."Altaria answered gently. "Altaria."

"A smart little wing. I'm sure Altaria will be able to graduate before you could say boom."Wilma admitted.

"Would it be alright if we can watch you train Altaria, Grandma Wilma?"Denise asked.

"Awesome idea, Dennie."Ash agreed.

"I would be really interested in learning about the way you teach."Brock insisted.

"We really appreciate it."Dawn added.

"Of course. I'd be happy to."Wilma answered and took a sip of her tea. "It's nice to have experience, you know?"

"That's great."Ash responded. "Thank you."

The group suddenly heard a rustling sound in the ground and saw something heading their way.

"What?!"Dawn and Denise said in unison.

"Is that?!"Brock started.

"A Pokemon?!"Ash finished.

The being burst out from the ground, revealing itself to be a wild Gible.

"Gible."Gible said. "Gible."

"A Gible?"Brock replied in surprise.

"Back again, I see."Wilma chuckled.

Brock, Dawn, Ash and Denise looked at Wilma.

"You see this Gible lives in the forest near here and it appears to me that it might be interested in all of you."Wilma declared.

Ash stood up a bit to greet the wild Dragon/Ground type Pokemon.

"Hi. How are you?"Ash asked. "I'm Ash."

Suddenly, Gible started biting on Ash's head causing him to cry out in pain while a Brock, Dawn and Denise watched in shock.

"Ow! Ow! Ow!"Ash cried out in pain.

"Ash!"Dawn gasped.

"This is what exactly Grotle did when he first met Ash as a wild Turtwig."Denise chuckled with a sheepish smile.

Pikachu, Prinplup and Combusken notice Gible biting on Ash's head causing them to rush forward to help him out.

Suddenly Gible started biting on Combusken and then Prinplup's head.

"Prinplup!"Dawn panicked.

"Alright. That's enough of that."Wilma instructed as she gently stroke Gible's face. "Let go of Prinplup, please."

Gible went off of Prinplup as the whimpering Penguin Pokemon landed on Dawn's lap.

"Are you alright, Prinplup?"Dawn asked.

"Prinplup!"Prinplup snapped.

Denise gently stroke Combusken's head as the Fire/Fighting Type pokemon angrily glared at Gible.

"Combusken!"Combusken scowled. "Combusken!"

"Yes. All Gibles have habits to bite on people's heads, Combusken."Denise admitted. "Even on Pokemon."

Brock and Pikachu checked on Ash as he stood in pain from his head getting bit by Gible.

Gible attempted to bite Wilma, but the old woman easily dodged its attacks.

"Alright. That's enough for now."Wilma instructed as she hugged Gible. "It's back in the forest for you."

Gible then started digging on the ground and disappeared inside the hole.

"Amazing, Grandma Wilma."Dawn complemented.

"Altaria, should we get back on working our Draco Meteor?"Wilma asked. "What do you say?"

"Altaria."Altaria chirped.

The group arrived in a clear view for Altaria to start its special training.

"Now lets begin."Wilma stated. "First off, I want you to concentrate every bit of your energy in your entire dragon type powers."

Altaria raised up its wings and began to concentrate as orange light appears in its body.

"Then direct all of its powers into the center of your body."Wilma instructed and Altaria began to activate Draco Meteor. "Now face the sky and let it rip!"

Altaria unleashed Draco Meteor into the sky and this time the meteors didn't hit where the four trainers stood.

"I give that a 10 out of 10."Wilma declared proudly.

"Altaria."Altaria chirped happily.

"So, Draco Meteor is a really powerful move that works to make the most out of the special powers of dragon type pokemon."Dawn remarked.

"And the key to successful training is complete concentration to pull those powers to the max."Brock exclaimed.

"Gible."Gible greeted.

The four trainers and their pokemon notice Gible walking up to them.

"Gible?"Ash said in surprise.

"Pika?"Pikachu asked.

Gible's body suddenly started glowing in light orange energy.

"Whoa!"Denise gasped. "Is that Draco Meteor?!"

"Could be."Brock answered. "Gible is a Dragon Type as well."

Gible unleashed its Draco Meteor into the sky.

However, Gible's Draco Meteor doesn't explode and comes back causing the gang to panic and make a ran for it.

Prinplup chirped in terror as the Draco Meteor landed and knocked him out.

"Prinplup!"Dawn shouted. "Are you alright?"

Wilma and Altaria walked up to Gible.

"Well, not quite."Wilma complemented and stroked Gible's chin. "Gible is watching our work and trying to copy Altaria, you see. But that was less than a Draco Meteor, but was a meteor. Plain and simple."

"So then why don't you give me a shot to train Gible?"Ash suggested confidently. "What do you say?"

"Pika pika!"Pikachu cheered.

"Gib gible."Gible agreed with a nod.

Ash then started training Gible while the others stood by watching them.

"Okay! The first thing you have to do is concentrate your dragon power."Ash instructed.

Gible's body started glowing in light orange energy as it focused its power in the center of your body.

"Great! Now focus that power in the center of your body."Ash ordered and Gible looked up in the sky. "Alright! Draco Meteor!"

While Gible fired the Draco Meteor into the sky, the same thing happens and this time its attack made Combusken get hit.

Combusken muttered in pain while being knocked out on the ground.

"Yikes!"Denise panicked and rushed over to her fire type. "Combusken! Are you okay?!"

Combusken recovered immediately and becomes angry at Gible.

"I guess we have to boost Gible's energy even more."Ash insisted and smiled at Gible. "Gible, let's try once more!"

Gible comes to Ash, earning his attention.

"What's wrong, Gible?"Ash questioned.

Gible then jumped up and started biting Ash's head.

Ash cried out in pain as Gible munched on his head.

"I sure would like to know what's going on in Gible's head when he does that."Brock muttered nervously.

Dawn and Denise glanced at each other with nervous smiles.

Wilma then calms Gible down and stop it from keep biting Ash's head.

"Thanks."Ash sighed with a relieved smile. "Guess I needed that."

"Patience and affection."Wilma declared. "Those are the keys into mastering Draco Meteor."

"Patience and affection?"Ash repeated.

Suddenly, rocks fall from the sky causing the group to panic from the sudden attack.

"Is that Draco Meteor?!"Dawn panicked.

"It's a shower of plain old rocks!"Wilma answered calmly.

Suddenly a big capsule hand came out and trapped Altaria in it.

"Altaria!"Wilma called out.

The robotic arm revealed to be from Team Rocket's air balloon.

"Who are you, folks?!"Wilma demanded.

Team Rocket began reciting their motto.

"Listen is that a cricket old voice I hear?"

"That includes puffy looking Pokemon!"

"On the Wind!"

"Pass the Stars!"

"Hey! What's the buzz?!"

"Bringing chaos at a break neck pace!"

Dashing hope, putting fear in it's place!"

"A rose by any other name is just as sweet!"

"When everything's worse, our work is complete!"

"Jessie!"

"And it's James!"

"Meowth, now that's a name!"

"Putting the do-gooders in their place!"

"We're Team Rocket!"

"We're in your face!"

"Wobbuffet!"

"Mime! Mime!"

"What's a Team Rocket?"Wilma questioned with a frown.

"They're a very bad gang of thieves that steal other people's Pokemon!"Dawn admitted.

"Prinplup!"Prinplup snapped.

"True."James agreed with a smirk. "You're using the word bad to utilise good of course."

"Not to mention, they're also a group of pathetic clowns that enjoy messing things for us all the time."Denise added with a bored expression.

"Combusken."Combusken agreed.

"You're the only pathetic clown around here, contest twerpette!"Jessie shouted angrily.

"Hang on!"Wilma demanded. "Altaria is not my pokemon! It belongs to a trainer! Now give it back!"

"Silly."Jessie sneered evilly. "If we give Altaria back, then the stealing part is toast."

"Yeah!"Meowth agreed. "And if we hold onto it, we get big and strong. Sinnoh strong to last a whole region full!"

"Wobbuffet!"Wobbuffet cheered.

"Give me a break!"Ash scowled. "Pikachu use Thunderbolt!"

"Now Prinplup, Bubble Beam!"Dawn cheered.

"Combusken use Ember!"Denise ordered.

Pikachu fired Thunderbolt, Prinplup used Bubble Beam and Combusken use Ember to hit the cage, but it stayed the same.

"What?!"Ash and Denise said in shock.

Altaria tried to use Ice Beam, but the cage was sturdy enough to resist the attack.

"Not even Ice Beam is working!"Brock said in disbelief.

"Ha! Ha! Ha!"Meowth cackled. "I got so good into keeping you twerps out, but soon I'll keep you from being a pain in the neck!"

"Tall boarders!"Team Rocket cheered. "Now we cross the boarders!"

Meowth pressed a button causing the fallen rocks to release colourful smoke to blind the group as Team Rocket goes away.

"Our lonely life with Altaria in flight!"Team Rocket sang.

"We gotta go help Altaria!"Ash stated and glanced at Pikachu. "Let's move, Pikachu!"

"Pikachu!"Pikachu agreed.

"Right, Prinplup!"Dawn responded. "Us too!"

"Prinplup!"Prinplup chirped.

"Let's get going as well, Combusken!"Denise insisted.

Combusken nodded. "Combusken!"

The heroes follow them (as Brock has to carry Wilma), including Gible.

The three trainers and their pokemon spotted Team Rocket's Air Balloon flying past the forest.

"There!"Dawn shouted. "Over that cliff!"

After a while, Brock leaves Dawn, Denise and Ash as he was exhausted by carrying the old lady.

"I can't go another step!"Brock coughed in exhaustion.

"What's wrong?"Denise asked.

"Sorry, guys."Brock apologised. "You go on without me."

"Okay, Brock."Ash answered and looked at the two girls. "Let's go!"

Ash, Dawn, Denise, Pikachu, Prinplup and Combusken continued their search for Team Rocket.

"You have a sad shape for a young man."Wilma complemented.

"Sad and shame."Brock answered with a shameful look.

The three trainers and their pokemon continued following after Team Rocket's balloon , but soon lost sight of it.

"Aw man!"Ash retorted. "Looks like we lost them!"

"Look over there!"Dawn said.

Ash and Denise followed Dawn's pointing and saw the air balloon heading over a cliff.

"How do we catch up to them?"Denise questioned.

Suddenly, there was rumbling below the ground and Gible burst out, frightening the three trainers and their pokemon.

"Gib gible."Gible spoke up.

"Gible, it's you."Ash said.

"Hold on a sec."Dawn remarked. "You live in this forest, don't you, Gible?"

"Yes, he does."Denise agreed. "Can you help us find a shortcut to follow after that balloon?"

Gible started surfing inside the ground as the three trainers and their pokemon started following after it.

However, the three trainers were lead to a grass area that had a small apple tree and Gible started munching an apple since he was hungry.

Pikachu, Prinplup and Combusken slid down on the ground at Gible's misunderstanding.

"Some shortcut."Dawn muttered. "It was only for a snack."

"Alright, Staraptor!"Ash declared as he took out a pokeball. "I choose you!"

"Noctowl, you help out too!"Denise insisted.

Ash and Denise threw out their pokeballs causing Staraptor and Noctowl to appear.

"Staraptor!"

"Noctowl!"

"We need your help!"Ash declared. "We gotta stop Team Rocket!"

"Go search for their air balloon!"Denise instructed.

Staraptor and Noctowl went off to look for Team Rocket as Ash, Dawn, Denise, Pikachu, Prinplup and Combusken followed after them.

Gible looked on in silent as the group headed off.

Dawn started to become tired from running as she followed after her companions.

"Are we there yet?"Dawn panted tiredly.

"Not exactly."Ash declared.

Dawn followed Ash and Denise's gaze, only to see a giant cliff in front of them.

"You've got to be kidding me."Denise groaned in disbelief.

"We'll just have to climb it."Ash insisted.

Ash, Dawn and Denise started climbing the cliff to get to the top.

Combusken used his sharp claws to easily climb up causing Denise to smile at him.

"At least you're not the one struggling, Combusken."Denise chuckled and glanced at her twin sister. "Come on, Dawn."

"Don't worry, Denise."Dawn assured. "I am just fine."

However, Dawn touches a rock that breaks causing both her and Prinplup to fall down below.

"Mamoswine!"Dawn shouted.

Dawn quickly sends Mamoswine, making her and Prinplup land on him.

"You okay?"Ash asked.

Ash was about to fall as well causing Denise to quickly try and catch his wrist, but she messed in an inch.

"Ash!"Denise gasped. "Pikachu!"

Ash notice Gible crawling inside the cliff and quickly grabs him to take him up.

Ash and Pikachu arrived at the top and land hard on the ground.

"That was great, Gible!"Ash complemented. "Thanks!"

Denise and Combusken arrived at the top before bringing their attention on Dawn.

"Hey, Dawn!"Denise called out. "How's it going down there?"

"We're fine!"Dawn replied loudly. "You can go on ahead!"

"You got it!"Ash answered and looked at Gible. "Thanks, Gible! See you later!"

Ash, Denise, Pikachu and Combusken continued their search to look for Team Rocket's air balloon.

They became shocked when they found Staraptor and Noctowl trapped inside a net.

"Staraptor! Noctowl!"Ash responded. "Don't worry, we'll get you out of there!"

Ash and Denise worked together to take off the net to free their flying type pokemon.

"I hate to admit it, but Team Rocket knows how to fool us a bit."Denise scoffed.

"But what's going to happen to Altaria?"Ash asked.

"I don't know, Ash."Denise replied. "But we should free her before it's too late."

Gible quietly looked at the group in silence before disappearing inside the hole it was.

Team Rocket were making their way to a mecha machine that looked like a large Altaria.

Altaria then tried again to free herself using Ice Beam.

The Humming Pokemon panted slowly to catch her breath from using her attacks.

"Give it a rest."James remarked smugly. "Experience should've informed you that whenever you can dish out, we simply soak up."

"For you to resist, we will proceed."Jessie sneered. "So that gives Team Rocket a spin."

"Wobbuffet!"

After using Ice Beam one more time to create a few shards in the cage, Altaria used Flamethrower and that caused the cage to crack.

Team Rocket became shocked at the sight.

"Alright, this ain't good!"Meowth panicked. "If you heating and cooling up, you'll crack through."

Team Rocket shrieked in terror as Altaria began slamming in her cage causing their mecha to collapse on the ground.

Then Team Rocket came out of their mecha to go to quickly fix the cage.

Suddenly, Gible comes out and bites Jessie's head.

"What's wrong with you?!"Jessie shrieked. "If your bored go watch TV!"

While they manage to get it off, Team Rocket became shocked to see Gible eat their machine.

"Our most expensive robot reduced to a snack!"James panicked.

"You metal eating muncher! You're about to learn there is no such as a free lunch!"Jessie scowled and took out a pokeball. "Seviper! Start with Bite!"

Jessie sends Seviper to use Bite, but it gets hit by a rock by Gible.

"One more time with Poison Tail!"Jessie ordered.

Seviper used Poison Tail, but Gible dodged and prepared for Draco Meteor.

Dawn, Brock and Wilma have found Ash, Denise, Staraptor and Noctowl in the cliff.

"Ash!"Dawn called out. "Denise!"

"Where's Team Rocket?"Brock asked.

"Sorry."Ash apologised. "They got away."

The group suddenly spotted Gible's Draco Meteor in the sky.

"Could that be…"Denise started.

"There is no doubt about it that it was Gible, who used Draco Meteor."Wilma stated.

"Come on!"Ash encouraged.

The heroes started following after where Gible's Draco Meteor was.

Team Rocket were not impressive by Gible's attack.

"That's no Draco Meteor."James insulted. "That was just a harmless meteor and nothing more."

"Alright, Seviper use Bite!"Jessie ordered.

Seviper goes to use Bite, but Gible uses Dragon Pulse to counter it.

"Dodge it, Seviper!"Jessie ordered.

Seviper dodged Gible's Dragon Pulse from being hit, leaving a big hole in the ground.

"That was a hit!"Meowth panicked.

"That Dragon Pulse could pack one heck of a punch!"James added.

Jessie sneered at seeing Gible tired from attacking.

"Looks like someone needs a nap."Jessie giggled. "Seviper, finish the job with another Bite!"

Seviper tried to use Bite again, but gets electrocuted by Pikachu's Thunderbolt as the heroes and Wilma arrived in the area.

"Okay, Team Rocket!"Ash warned. "You're done!"

"Pika pika!"Pikachu shouted.

"Give us back Altaria or you'll be sorry!"Denise warned.

"Combusken!"Combusken growled.

"As we will ever listen to you, twerpette!"Jessie scowled.

"Carnivine, come out!"James ordered.

Carnivine comes out and started biting James in affection.

"Stop chopping down!"James complained.

"Seviper use Bite!"Jessie ordered.

"Carnivine, Vine Whip!"James ordered.

Carnivine used Vine Whip and Seviper prepared to attack with Bite.

"Quick, Prinplup!"Dawn ordered. "Use Bubble Beam!"

"Use Fire Spin, Combusken!"Denise ordered.

"Pikachu use Thunderbolt!"Ash ordered.

Carnivine gets hit by Bubble Beam, Fire Spin and Thunderbolt from Prinplup, Combusken and Pikachu, making him get pushed towards Seviper, resulting both of them getting knocked out.

"Pikachu use Iron Tail!"Ash ordered.

Pikachu uses Iron Tail to shatter the cage and Altaria gets freed.

"Altaria!"Wilma said in joy and hugged the Humming Pokemon. "You're safe!"

Altaria smiled. "Altaria."

Team Rocket struggled to recover Carnivine and Seviper from their enemies' attacks.

Gible walks up to Ash and began to activate Draco Meteor.

"Do it, Gible!"Ash remarked. "Use Draco Meteor!"

Gible uses Draco Meteor; but this time it explodes and lands on Team Rocket, making them blast off.

"WE'RE BLASTING OFF AGAIN!"Team Rocket screamed and disappeared from sight.

Denise let out a low whistle in approval.

"Whoa, Gible aced his Draco Meteor this time."Denise chuckled.

Combusken nodded. "Combusken."

Ash bent down to stroke Gible's head to thank him.

"Hey, Gible. Thank you."Ash thanked. "You were great out there."

Gible smiled. "Gible."

"I'm impressed."Dawn stated. "Gible, this time knows how to use Draco Meteor."

Gible attempts to use it once more, but it failed and lands on both Prinplup and Combusken.

"Not again!"Dawn gasped in disbelief.

"Looks like there is still some areas to improve."Denise sighed while sweat dropping.

Prinplup and Combusken muttered in pain while Ash, Brock and Pikachu sweat dropped at the sight as well.

"I guess that's the way it goes."Brock commented. "You can't improve it all."

"Pika."Pikachu sighed.

Ash dropped his head down in shame.

Later, Wilma showed the herois the path to take to get to Daybreak Town.

"See that road?"Wilma asked. "Take that road to get to Daybreak Town and now don't get lost you hear?"

"Right."Ash agreed and notice Gible was gone. "Hold on. Where did Gible go?"

"I'm sure Gible was standing with us a minute a go."Brock suggested.

"Probably went back in his life in the forest."Denise assumed.

"Quite right, my dear."Wilma agreed. "Thank you. You were all such a very big help. Be sure to stop by when you are in the neighbourhood."

"We will."Dawn assured.

"And thank you for teaching us so much, Grandma Wilma."Denise remarked.

Prinplup, Combusken and Pikachu all responded in agreement.
