Chapter 148: Gotta Get a Gible!
Ash, Dawn, Denise and Brock were continuing to Daybreak Town, where Dawn will have her next Pokémon Contest.
Suddenly, the group heard an explosion behind them and saw huge pile of black smoke emerging not far from where they stood.
"What was that?"Ash asked.
Denise shrugged. "Probably nothing."
The heroes then continued walking and eventually arrived in front of a town.
"Yes! A town and that means food!"Ash cheered, raising his fists up and then looked at Pikachu. "What do you say we get something to eat Pikachu?"
"Pika pika!"Pikachu agreed excitedly.
"Hold on."Dawn instructed. "We need to go to the Pokemon Center first."
"That's a good idea."Denise agreed and looked at Brock. "Is there a Pokemon Center nearby, Brock?"
"Let's see."Brock replied as he took out his Pokegear. "Pokegear, help us find a location."
Ash suddenly feels someone poke his leg and looked at Pikachu.
"Hey Pikachu, did you just poke my leg?"Ash asked.
Pikachu shook his head. "Pikachu."
Gible spots them and digs, getting behind Ash and poking his leg. Ash thinks it's Pikachu doing it,
Ash once again feels someone poke his leg causing him to turn around, but saw no one behind him.
"Whose that?!"Ash demanded.
"What's wrong, Ash?"Brock questioned.
"Someone keeps poking my leg."Ash answered.
Suddenly, Gible jumped out of the burrow and bites on Ash's head.
"Look whose here!"Dawn remarked.
"Whoa!"Denise chuckled. "It's Gible!"
"That's the same Gible, who was Grandma Wilma's friend."Brock complemented.
"Gible."Gible sneered. "Gible."
Brock then moved closer and notice how happy Gible was while biting Ash's head.
"Gible sure looks happy while munching on your head."Brock stated.
Denise smiled. "That could only mean one thing."
"Yeah."Dawn agreed. "Gible likes you a lot, Ash."
Ash removed Gible from his head as Brock spoke up.
"Gible was awfully happy when it learned Draco Meteor the other day and it was all because of working hard with you."Brock exclaimed.
"Is that true, Gible?"Ash asked.
Gible nodded. "Gible."
"Do you wanna come with me?"Ash questioned.
"Gible gible."Gible agreed.
"Awesome!"Ash responded as he backed away and took out a pokeball. "Then I'm going to catch ya! Go, pokeball!"
Ash throws a pokeball, but Gible caught it in its mouth and devoured it causing Brock, Dawn, Denise, Pikachu, Prinplup and Combusken to sweat drop.
"Wait."Ash said as he walked up to the wild pokemon. "So, you don't want to come with me, Gible?"
"Gib gib."Gible answered with a nod.
"But you just said that you wanted to come with me."Ash reminded.
"Gib gible."Gible agreed.
Gible's simple grunts caused Ash to become confused and annoyed at the same time.
"Ugh! Make up your mind, Gible!"Ash shouted in a irritated tone while rubbing his head. "Which one is it?!"
Dawn, Denise, Pikachu, Prinplup and Combusken sweat dropped when Gible started biting on Ash's head again.
The group then notice Officer Jenny arriving in her motorcycle.
Brock immediately became love struck and started to flirt with Officer Jenny.
"Officer Jenny!"Brock flirted, holding Officer Jenny's hand. "Your siren is nothing compared to the siren in my heart and the strike of your beauty! Put me under arrest with your eyes later!"
Brock gets hit by Croagunk's Poison Jan and dropped on the ground in pain.
"Later…"Brock muttered.
Croagunk then dragged Brock away.
Jenny then confronts Ash, thinking the Gible was his pokemon.
"So this is your Gible, right?"Officer Jenny asked.
"Well, you see-"Ash started.
Gible nodded. "Gible gible."
Though Ash tries to explain, Gible's grunts make Officer Jenny think it is his.
"It's not a yes, so it is yours."Officer Jenny assumed.
"Gib gib."Gible agreed with a nod.
"You see, but its not."Ash protested.
"It can't be yes and no."Officer Jenny reminded.
Gible suddenly started biting Officer Jenny's head which shocked the group.
"Cut it out, Gible!"Ash shouted.
Ash quickly removed Gible from Officer Jenny's head and the Land Shark Pokemon made its escape underground.
"Young man, I think you need to look after your pokemon a bit better in the future."Officer Jenny instructed.
"The truth is I was trying to catch it before you showed up, but no luck."Ash stated.
"That Gible is still a wild pokemon at this point."Dawn responded.
"Oh, I see."Officer Jenny said.
"Officer Jenny, is there something not right?"Brock asked.
"Did that Gible cause any trouble?"Denise questioned.
"I'll show you, but you won't believe it."Officer Jenny declared. "Come have a look."
Officer Jenny takes the group to a park where many objects have been partially devoured, bite marks apparent.
"Oh my gosh."Denise muttered.
"What happened here?"Ash asked.
"Everything has a bite on it!"Dawn said.
"This is awful."Brock added.
Gible once again emerged from the ground and appeared in front of the group.
"It's Gible!"Ash responded and frowned at the Dragon/Ground type pokemon. "Hey! Tell us the truth! Did you do all this?"
Gible nodded at the Pallet Town trainer.
"Well, what you did was bad!"Ash snapped.
Gible ignored Ash and went to chomp on a bench.
"I told you to knock it off, Gible!"Ash demanded.
Ash removed Gible from the bench, only for the two of them to hit the floor before standing up.
"Look Gible, you're causing a whole lot of trouble to a lot of people."Ash scowled. "Don't ever do that again."
Ash tried to scold Gible, but the Land Shark Pokemon bites his head again much to his dismay.
Officer Jenny, Dawn, Denise, Brock, Pikachu, Prinplup and Combusken sweat dropped while watching the sight.
Gible soon stopped biting on Ash's headed and once again made its escape to the forest.
"Gible!"Ash protested. "Slow down!"
"Come back!"Officer Jenny demanded.
"Get over of my way!"A familiar voice called out.
Ash and Jenny pursue Gible as Barry, riding a bicycle, runs into Ash.
Denise winced seeing both Barry and Ash crash into each other again.
"Not again."Denise muttered.
"Whoa!"Dawn gasped. "It's Barry!"
"Are you two alright?"Brock asked.
"Alright, Ash!"Barry snapped while standing up. "What's with you?! I'm fining you for getting in my way! I'm counting 10 seconds! 9! 8! 7! 6!"
Ash recovered and glared at Barry.
"You're the one who bumped into me!"Ash reminded.
"Well, you're the one who didn't move!"Barry argued.
"Maybe you should learn to ride a bike!"Ash retorted.
Barry growled and took out a pokeball.
"Forget it!"Barry scowled. "Let's have a pokemon battle! Have you gotten any better?!"
"Sure!"Ash sneered and took out a pokeball. "Much better than you!"
"So how many badges have you won?!"Barry demanded.
"Seven of them!"Ash shouted.
"Poor Ash."Barry said smugly. "You've only got seven?"
"How many do you have?"Ash asked.
"Keep your shirt on."Barry responded. "Six, see?"
"You still got six?"Ash said in disbelief.
"Six is less than seven."Dawn stated.
"So you're still falling behind us, huh?"Denise asked with a smirk.
"It doesn't matter how many badges I have, Denise!"Barry scowled with a glare. "I'm a much better trainer than Ash anyway!"
Ash went face to face with Barry.
"Oh yeah?!"Ash shouted. "Alright then let's battle!"
"You're on, kid!"Barry declared.
Brock went between Ash and Barry to stop them from fighting.
"Now let's all take a deep breath."Brock instructed.
"That's a good idea."Dawn agreed and looked at Barry. "But Barry the last time we talked to you, you said you were heading to Sunyshore City."
"Lucas did say as well he was heading there as well."Denise commented.
"Both of us were heading to Sunyshore City, but then there was a tournament that was giving away bikes for free."Barry explained. "So I decided to go there first."
"Bicycles for free?"Dawn repeated.
"Yeah."Barry agreed with a nod. "After that, I stopped by at the Hearthome City Gym to challenge Fantina to a battle, but she wasn't there again."
"Surprise."Ash said with a sheepish smile.
"Guess it will be a while until you actually win that Relic Badge."Denise remarked in amusement.
"Yeah, yeah, sure."Barry scoffed bluntly and then showed a ticket with a number 1 on it. "But check it out. See? I got the genuine Hearthome City challenger ticket and I'm first in line."
"Geez, Barry."Ash commented with a smirk. "I can't believe you still haven't got Fantina's Badge yet."
"Looks like you got a lot of catching up to do."Denise chuckled.
"For your information, I didn't have time to battle Fantina yet!"Barry argued and then looked away proudly. "But now that I have a bike, I'll be able to move quicker!"
Barry notice the wheels of his bike were on the ground, but his ride was no where to be seen.
"Hey, where did my bike go?"Barry asked.
Barry becomes angry and annoyed at learning Gible was the one who ate his bike.
"I can't believe you would have the nerve to eat my bicycle! I'm going to fine you!"Barry yelled in frustration. "I want a new bike right now!"
"I told you not to do that, Gible."Ash reminded.
"Gib gible."Gible answered with a nod.
"Do you understand any of this?"Ash questioned.
"What a piece of work!"Barry complemented and looked at Ash. "Have you heard of training your pokemon to have some manners?"
"To be honest, Ash hasn't caught this Gible just yet."Brock admitted.
"It's a wild pokemon."Dawn stated.
"But has a bad habit to eat any subjects it sees too."Denise added.
"It's wild?"Barry murmured and took a few steps back in excitement. "If that's the case, I'm going to catch this Gible myself! Ready or not, here I come!"
"Gible."Gible agreed with a nod.
"Hold on, Barry-"Ash started.
"Come on!"Barry shouted impatiently while clenching onto a pokeball in his hand. "What is it now?!"
"I was planning to catch this Gible, you see."Ash responded.
"Ha! First come, first serve!"Barry laughed with a smirk and threw out his pokeball. "Empoleon!"
Barry's pokeball opened and the Emperor Pokemon appeared.
"Empoleon!"
"Now Drill Peck!"Barry ordered. "Let's go!"
Empoleon uses Drill Peck, but Gible moved out the way causing his opponent to hit a rock.
"Nice dodge, Gible."Brock declared.
"Wow."Dawn remarked. "Gible's quick."
"You said it, sis."Denise chuckled.
One of Gible's hands glow white and charged forward to hit Empoleon with Rock Smash.
"Dodge it, Empoleon!"Barry ordered.
Empoleon did a big jump and Gible ended up hiting the rock that the Water/Stell Pokemon previously crashed into.
"Use Steel Wing!"Barry ordered.
Gible gets hit by Empoleon's Steel Wing, but went back on its feet after getting hit.
"Use Hydro Cannon!"Barry ordered.
Empoleon uses Hydro Cannon causing Gible to be blown away.
"Oh no!"Denise gasped.
"Gible!"Ash yelled out.
Ash, Pikachu, Denise and Combusken headed after Gible causing Dawn, Prinplup and Brock to follow after them.
"Ash! Denise!"Brock protested. "Wait up!"
"Slow down!"Dawn responded.
"Prinplup!"Prinplup chirped.
"And that's what I call good and honest count."Barry commented and became shocked when he realised he was supposed to catch Gible. "I forgot to catch it! What is wrong with me?!"
Barry bowed his head in shame as Empoleon stared at his trainer in disapproval.
Ash, Pikachu, Denise and Combusken were searching for Gible in the forest.
"Gible!"Ash called out. "Gible!"
"Gible, where are you?!"Denise demanded. "Say something!"
"Pikachu!"Pikachu said.
"Combusken!"Combusken shouted.
The two trainers looked around with their pokemon, but saw no sign of Gible.
"I think we should split up, Dennie."Ash insisted.
Denise nodded. "Right. We'll contact you, if we find anything."
Ash and Denise went separate ways to find Gible.
Combusken stood closely next to Denise as they walked alone in the forest.
"Even though Gible doesn't understand what people are, we only now it loves to munch on things."Denise exclaimed with a thoughtful expression. "So all we have do is lure it out using something yummy. Good idea, right Combusken?"
Denise brought out a plastic bag that had her homemade cookies inside it.
"Luckily, I have my special cookies."Denise complemented. "By smelling the whiff of my goodies, no Pokemon won't be able to resist-"
Suddenly, a figure flew right into Denise's face to snuggle her happily and make her drop down on the ground.
Combusken sweat dropped at seeing his Trainer getting attacked.
"Ow!"Denise groaned as she removed the figure on her face. "Hey! You should watch where you're going, buddy!"
The figure was a a dragonfly-like Pokémon. It has a small head with two yellow antennae and green bulging eyes with black oval-shaped pupils. Its mouth has two large white teeth protruding from each side. It has a skinny yellow body, four skinny black legs with slender feet, and four green, rhombus-shaped wings with black edges. There were similarly-coloured rhombus shapes at the end of its tail.
"What kind of Pokemon are you?"Denise questioned.
Denise took out her Pokédex to scan the pokemon that bumped into her.
"Vibrava the Vibration Pokemon and the evolved form of Trapinch."Denise's Pokedex buzzed. "It violently shudders its wings, generating ultrasonic waves to induce headaches in people."
"Vibrava?"Denise repeated in confusion.
Vibrava started munching Denise's cookies causing the Twinleaf Girl's eyes to widen in realisation.
"Wait a minute!"Denise responded, looking at Vibrava. "You were that Trapinch, who ate my cookies when I was a little girl, aren't you?"
"Vibrava vib."Vibrava replied with a kind smile.
"Oh my gosh! It's been years!"Denise remarked. "And I'm so glad that you evolved since then!"
"Combusken?"Combusken said in confusion.
Suddenly, there was an loud banging sound nearby causing Denise, Combusken and Vibrava to become alarmed.
"There is trouble!"Denise retorted and looked at Vibrava. "Vibrava, would you help us out?"
"Vibrava!"Vibrava answered with a firm look.
Denise and Combusken started running while Vibrava followed them while flying.
The trio joined up with Brock, Dawn and Prinplup, who were staring at a giant ninja mecha, who had Gible on its metal hand while his other hand held Ash and Pikachu.
"Ash!"Denise shouted. "Pikachu! Gible!"
"Hey, who's that buzzer next to the twerpette?"Meowth questioned.
"Probably some hitch-hiker."Jessie replied while waving it off.
Vibrava narrowed his eyes at hearing Jessie's insult before flying up and unleashing Dragon Pulse to hit the ninja mecha hard.
"Hey, buzzer!"James shouted. "What's wrong with you?!"
"You're in our way, buzz boy!"Meowth insulted. "Buzz off!"
"Vibrava is pretty mad because you insulted him, you creeps!"Denise retorted.
"Combusken!"Combusken growled.
Ash struggled to set himself and Pikachu free before remembering something.
"Oh yeah. I forgot that Gible is a ground type pokemon and electric type moves won't have any effect on him."Ash complemented and glanced at Gible. "Hey, Gible! Hang on a little longer, okay?"
Gible nodded. "Gible!"
"Pikachu use Thunderbolt."Ash instructed.
"Pika?"Pikachu said with an unsure look.
"Now don't hold back and go for it."Ash encouraged.
Pikachu, per Ash's order, uses Thunderbolt, causing the robot arm to drop, making himself and Ash be set free.
"Okay, Pikachu use Iron Tail!"Ash ordered.
Pikachu uses Iron Tail to free Gible from Team Rocket's clutches and the Land Shark Pokemon landed in Ash's arms.
"I got you, Gible."Ash remarked and Pikachu landed on his shoulders. "Pikachu, great job."
Pikachu smiled. "Pikachu."
Gible starting biting on Ash's head in joy causing him to laugh lightly.
"Hey!"Meowth complained and pulled a lever. "Autobot, attack!"
Meowth pulls a lever, but the machine was reduced to scrap, as they used scrap metal to build the machine.
"Explain that!"Meowth demanded.
"You see since it's a recycled robot, we brought recycled parts from a junkyard."James admitted.
"A junkyard?!"Meowth said in disbelief.
"I guess we could've used proper wiring instead of old coat hangers."Jessie complemented.
"Coat hangers?!"Meowth repeated.
With this, Team Rocket got blast off by the explosion caused by the scrap metal of their robot.
"I wonder if you have figured out who suffers from our humilation beside us!"Meowth retorted.
"This is hardly time for a guessing game."James reminded.
"A humble guess, but what there is to guess?"Jessie asked with a shrug.
"WE'RE BLASTING OFF AGAIN!"Team Rocket screamed and disappeared in the sky.
Dawn, Prinplup and Brock rushed over Ash, Gible, Pikachu, Denise, Combusken and Vibrava.
"Hey, Ash and Dennie."Dawn replied.
"Are you all okay?"Brock asked.
Denise nodded. "Yep."
"We're all fine."Ash assured and held Gible. "And Gible is okay too."
"Pikachu."Pikachu remarked.
Gible started licking Ash's face in joy, making the Pallet Town trainer laughed lightly.
"Come on, Gible!"Ash laughed. "That tickles!"
"It seems that Gible really likes Ash."Dawn giggled.
"He sure does."Brock agreed.
Dawn and Brock then notice a Vibrava on Denise's head.
"Huh? A Vibrava?"Dawn questioned in confusion.
"Where did you find it, Denise?"Brock asked curiously.
"A friend from my childhood."Denise admitted and looked at Vibrava. "Wow. It's wonderful to see you again. So how long have you been following me and my friends?"
"Vibrava vibrava."Vibrava explained.
"Since spotting us in Grandma Wilma's place?"Denise chuckled. "I'm impressed."
Ash then placed Gible on the ground and bent down to talk to him.
"Now Gible, I'll ask again."Ash stated. "Do you wanna come with me?"
"Gib gible."Gible answered with a happy smile.
"Okay, then!"Ash responded and took out a pokeball. "Go, Poke Ball!"
Ash throws the pokeball and Gible gets caught inside it.
After a few shakes, the pokeball stopped moving.
Gible was caught!
"I did it!"Ash declared as he picked up Gible's pokeball. "I caught Gible!"
"Pi pikachu!"Pikachu cheered in victory.
"Congratulations, Ash."Dawn congratulated.
"Gible is finally yours."Denise chuckled.
"Yeah."Ash answered with a nod. "Okay, Gible. Come on out."
Ash sends Gible out of his pokeball.
"Gible!"
"You're part of the family, Gible."Ash stated.
"Hey!"Barry yelled out angrily as he rushed forward. "Exactly what you're doing, Ash?! I was gonna catch that Gible!"
Gible leapt up and started biting on Barry's head causing him to cry out in pain.
"Guess Gible doesn't agree with you."Denise commented with a smug look.
Ash quickly removed Gible from Barry's head as Barry glared at him with a very angry expression.
"I'm fining you for this and you have five seconds to pay up!"Barry warned.
"Now, now."Brock instructed.
"The truth is that Gible liked Ash so much that made him the effort to follow him over here."Dawn explained.
The angry expression on Barry's face vanished.
"Barry, I was trying to catch it when you show up, you see?"Ash admitted.
"Come on, Ash."Barry replied. "You should have said so in the first place."
Denise scoffed. "He wanted to tell you, but you kept interrupting him."
"Dennie is right."Ash responded. "You weren't paying attention on what I was saying."
"Alright, Ash."Barry said with a smile, holding a Poke Ball. "Then why don't we have a battle between your Gible and my Empoleon?"
"Sure."Ash answered and glanced at Gible. "What do you say, Gible?"
"Gible!"Gible cheered excitedly.
"Alright, Barry!"Ash remarked. "Let's do it!"
Ash and Barry prepare to battle with Gible and Empoleon against each other.
Denise, Combusken and Vibrava sat with Dawn and Prinplup while Brock was the referee of the battle.
"The battle will be one on one with no substitution!"Brock declared. "And begin!"
"Empoleon, let's win this with Drill Peck!"Barry ordered.
The Emperor Pokemon charged forward using Drill Peck.
"Gible, counter it with Rock Smash!"Ash ordered.
Gible clashed with Empoleon using Rock Smash.
However, Empoleon hits Gible first and cancelled his attack.
"I wouldn't be surprised but Empoleon is strong."Dawn complemented.
"Prinplup."Prinplup chirped.
Denise nodded in agreement.
"Use Drill Peck one more time!"Barry ordered.
"Empoleon maybe stronger, so focus your energy and counter it with Rock Smash!"Ash ordered.
The two pokemon collide again, though Empoleon and Gible gets pushed away.
"That encouraged Gible!"Dawn remarked.
"Use Steel Wing!"Barry ordered.
Empoleon's wings glowed white as he headed towards Gible.
"Dodge it!"Ash ordered.
Empoleon used Steel Wing and Gible failed to dodge the attack.
"Gible!"Ash shouted.
"Pika!"Pikachu gasped.
"Keep it up and use Steel Wing one more time!"Barry ordered.
Empoleon used Steel Wing again to attack Gible.
"Gible use Dig!"Ash ordered.
The Emperor Pokemon wasn't able to hit Gible as it dug underground.
"That's it!"Ash declared. "Now use Rock Smash!"
"Empoleon use Steel Wing!"Barry ordered.
Gible goes to use Rock Smash, but gets hit by Steel Wing.
"Keep it up with Hydro Cannon!"Barry ordered with a smirk. "Go!"
Empoleon fired Hydro Cannon towards Gible.
"Dodge it quickly, Gible!"Ash ordered.
Empoleon's Hydro Cannon misses due to Gible's digging.
"Now aim it to that hole!"Barry ordered.
Empoleon aimed his water attack at the hole, hitting Gible and shocking Ash.
Denise bit her lip as Gible hit the ground and stood up again.
"Gible, are you okay?"Ash asked.
Gible began to use Draco Meteor without Ash's command.
"Is that Draco Meteor?!"Ash said in shock. "Don't use it without my command!"
Combusken and Prinplup paled in shock seeing Gible's uncontrolled attack causing them to go hide behind a tree.
The Draco Meteor failed once more and began heading towards Empoleon.
"Hit it back!"Barry ordered.
Empoleon uses Steel Wing to hit the attack, which bounces to where Prinplup and Combusken were.
Both Dawn and Denise sweat dropped at the sight.
"Yeah! Let's wrap this up right now!"Barry said proudly. "Hyper Beam, let's go!"
Empoleon prepared to use Hyper Beam as Gible brought his head up.
"Gible, what are you doing?!"Ash asked. "You gotta listen to me!"
Gible fired Dragon Pulse from his mouth, surprising Dawn and Denise.
"That was Dragon Pulse!"Dawn and Denise responded in unison.
"Dodge it quick!"Barry ordered.
Empoleon dodged Gible's Hyper Beam before Barry gave him his last command.
"Empoleon use Hyber Beam!"Barry ordered.
Empoleon used Hyper Beam on Gible and the Dragon/Ground Pokemon was defeated.
"Gible!"Ash yelled out.
"Gible..."Gible muttered in pain.
"Gible is unable to battle!"Brock declared. "Empoleon is the victory! Barry gets the win!"
"Alright! Alright!"Barry cheered in victory. "Alright! We did it!"
Empoleon simply sighed as Ash and Pikachu went over to Gible.
"Are you okay, Gible?"Ash asked, holding Gible and smiled. "You battled really well."
Gible smiled. "Gible."
"Don't let it get over your head though."Ash instructed. "Make sure you listen to my commands from now on, okay?"
"Gib gible."Gible answered with a nod.
"Wow."Ash remarked. "Your really paying attention to what I'm saying?"
Ash laughed as Gible started biting on his head.
"Pikachu."Pikachu chuckled.
Dawn, Prinplup, Denise, Combusken, Vibrava and Brock smiled at the sight.
"No doubt those two would be a great team."Dawn commented.
"Yeah."Brock agreed with a nod. "And I can't wait to see how Ash is going to raise him.
"You know at this rate, I'm going to become the strongest pokemon trainer in the entire world with no time flash!"Barry announced confidently.
Barry punched the air causing Empoleon to do the same thing.
"That's coming from the guy, who still didn't battle Fantina yet."Denise sneered in a smug tone.
Combusken smirked. "Combusken."
Barry hits the floor before standing up to glare at Denise.
"Don't you think I know that?!"Barry snapped and showed his ticket. "You seem to be forgetting my pass ticket, Denise! I am number one!"
Barry takes out his ticket for Hearthome City's Gym, which Gible eats.
This caused Ash, Pikachu, Denise, Combusken, Vibrava, Dawn, Prinplup, Brock and Empoleon to laugh lightly at the sight.
