The next day, the girls and I got ready to go out for the day when I had a text from Toby saying he got a secret crush on both Kayla and Kaylee. I told him that is not going to happen because they're friends with Stacey and I don't think they'd risk it. I was told not to say anything to any of the girls including Stacey, but I replied I don't hide anything.

"We'll be going down to the beach now," said Kayla.

"Okay," I said.

We got out there just before Toby and Alex came to us.

"Stacey had plans, so Kayla and Kaylee wanted to join us," I said. "Dad said it was fine with him."

"No problem," said Toby.

"And, there is no time limit for us to return," said Kayla.

"Oh, good," said Alex.

"It's nice you get to hang out while you're here," said Toby.

"Dad enjoyed you both," I said.

"Makes sense," said Alex.

"He approved me with Logan. Luckily for me, I get to have a long distance relationship with him," I said.

"That's a good thing," said Toby.

"The other girls and I wanted to join, too if that's okay," said Marci.

"Fine by me," said Alex.

"We liked meeting you girls," said Toby.

At the bowling alley, Alex said, "We can go bowling before dinner."

"Sounds good," said Kayla.

"Just to warn you on one thing: Kayla and I are excellent bowlers," said Kaylee.

"Are you sure?" asked Alex.

"Yes," replied Kayla.

"I think we feel pretty good about beating you for sure because Mary Anne is also a good bowler," said Kaylee.

"That part is true," I said.

"Us, too," said Marci.

"We'll just see about that," said Toby.

"Let's make it interesting," said Alex.

"Speak it," said Kaylee.

"If we win, we'll be pick where to go and you'd buy us dinner. If you win, we'll buy you dinner," said Alex.

"Deal," said Patti.

After we ate, we went to rent a lane for an hour. I'm not into sports, but I do enjoy bowling. By the time the hour was up, the girls and I beat the boys by 50 pins.

"Told you so," said Kayla as we all laughed.

"I can see when you both kept getting turkeys," said Alex.

"Can we pick where to go since we won?" asked Kaylee.

"Sure," said Toby.

"That's the part of the deal," I said.

"Oh, yeah," said Kayla as we giggled.

"This was fun," said Kathi.

"Agreed," said Marci.

The girls and I picked Chinese and we all shared a pu-pu platter.

"We were gonna get pizza, but I figured we had it last night," said Toby.

"We don't care either way," said Kayla.

"We had fun, that's all it matters," said Patti.

"Exactly," said Kaylee.

"I can't wait to spend the day at the fair tomorrow," said Alex.

"Same," I said.

"What time does that start?" asked Marci.

"I think 11:00 am until around 8:00 pm," said Toby.

"That sounds right," said Alex.

After we had dinner, we headed back to the house when we saw the flyer.

"It must be on the boardwalk," I said.

"Yes," said Alex.

"We go on rides, but we don't go on them on full stomachs," said Kaylee.

"That's like us," said Toby.

"We save the games until after lunch," said Kayla.

"Yeah," said Marci.

"Makes sense," said Alex.

At the house, I said, "I bet the others will go anyway, but we can all hang out together."

"Sounds good," said Alex.

"What time do you plan to be at the fair tomorrow?" I asked.

"Not until 1:00 pm," said Toby.

"How about you?" asked Alex.

"I'm not sure the time for us," said Kayla.

"I don't think it was set up yet unless Dad and Mr. Thomas are waiting to talk about it," I added.

"Oh, thanks for dinner," said Kayla.

"We'll beat you next time," said Alex.

"Maybe, maybe not," said Kaylee as we giggled.

We said our good-byes and went inside. After we got in, Kayla said, "Is it me or did Toby had his eyes on me?"

"I suspect he's like that with me, too," said Kaylee.

"I do know that's not happening because Stacey's friendship is too important," said Kayla.

In the living room, Dad was telling us about a plan.

"We'll be spending the afternoon at the fair," said Dad.

"The boys told us they're going to be there by 1:00 pm," I said.

"That will work," said Dad.

"We're talking about having something light for lunch before we head down there," said Mr. Thomas.

"Fine by me," said Kristy.

"We're not worried about you girls going together in groups," said Mr. Thomas.

Later, the girls needed me for something. I went over to them.

"Is something going on with Toby?" asked Kayla.

"I heard he has a crush on both of you," I replied.

"We thought so," said Kaylee.

"I knew about it, but I was forced not to say anything," I said.

"Why?" asked Kayla.

"Good question. I told him that will not happen since he's Stacey's ex-boyfriend," I said.

"Exactly," said Kaylee.

"I wonder if Stacey knows," said Kayla.

"That's another person he didn't want me to mention," I said.

"I'm glad you came to tell us," said Kaylee.

"We'd tell him no anyway for a reason," said Kayla.

"Did you girls come across with a same boy?" I asked.

"Never," said Kayla.

"We never fight over a boy, we vowed we'd talk about it," said Kaylee.

The next day, we had a light lunch we went over to the boardwalk for the fair. Toby and Alex had just arrived.

"Good timing, we had just gotten here, too," said Alex.

"Oh, good," I said.

"We plan to have dinner here," said Toby.

"Us, too," said Kaylee.

"We plan to do a few rides before we have light lunch," said Alex.

"We just had some light lunch before we came," I said.

Later, we went to get cotton candy.

"We can share one," said Kayla.

"Sounds good," said Marci.

That night, Toby said, "I still have a crush on Kayla."

"I don't think she'd do that," I said.

"How about Kaylee?" asked Toby.

"Same," I said.

"Are you joking?" asked Toby.

"No, I'm not. They're friends with Stacey and I don't think they'd risk it," I said

I walked away. Alex, who knew, came and said, "I told you the same thing."

"I like the girls more than a friend," said Toby.

That night, at night, Toby came to tell the girls, Kaylee said, "Sorry, but that's not going to happen."

"Why?" asked Toby.

"We are not doing that to Stacey. We care about her and we are not betraying her," said Kayla. "We still can be friends."

"Did Mary Anne tell you?" asked Toby.

"Never mind that," said Kayla.

"I told her not to do," said Toby.

"But here's a thing, we don't hide anything from each other," said Kaylee.

"Yeah, we tell each other everything," said Kayla.

"Plus, they asked me what's going on and I'm sorry to say this, but I do not lie," I said.

Stacey must have knew what Alex said because she came. "Why did you tell Mary Anne not to tell me about your crush to the girls? Alex just told me."

"We just told him no anyway," said Kaylee.

"Good, I'm glad," said Stacey.

"Alex did tell you it's not happening," I said.

Toby walked off feeling disappointed.

"I hope he'll get over it or there will be no friendship," said Kayla.

"I agree," said Kaylee.

"You both did the right thing," said Stacey.

"We told him there is no way we'd betray you," said Kaylee.

Later, I noticed Toby was acting cold towards me. He did not talk to me at all. But I did not care. I knew I did the right thing before any friendship can cause any damages.

"Don't listen to Toby, you did the right thing," said Alex.

"I know," I said.

I think Dad noticed something was up because he came up to me.

"Does Toby have a problem?" asked Dad.

"Yes," said Alex.

"He is not talking to me," I said.

I told him about what happened.

"You did nothing wrong. You saved a friendship," said Dad.

"I already warned him ahead of time," said Alex.

"I did told him I don't hide anything. The girls asked me, so I had to tell the truth," I said.

"Of course, you're a good friend to protect them," said Dad. "He better apologize before we leave or I won't let him come around you again."

"I will tell him that," said Alex.

"Thank you," said Dad. "I'd let you spend time."

Toby came around and apologized for giving the girls trouble and will accept their friendship.

"You are not finished here," said Kaylee.

"What do you mean?" asked Toby.

"You need to do the same thing for another person," said Kayla.

"Like who?" asked Toby.

"Who do you think?" asked Kaylee.

"Mary Anne should be the one saying that to me," said Toby.

"Why?" asked Kaylee.

"I did told her not to say anything," said Toby.

"She did nothing wrong," said Kayla.

"But she had a point: we did ask her about what was going on with you," said Kaylee.

"Friends tell each other the truth," said Stacey.

"You put our best friend in a rough spot this afternoon," said Kayla.

Alex came around. "I hate to say this, Toby, I agree with the girls."

"Whose side are you on?" asked Toby.

"I'm on Mary Anne's side and her father is not happy with you for the way you treated her," said Alex. "He even asked if you had a problem. He said Mary Anne did saved a friendship."

"Which we're glad she did that," said Kayla.

"By the way, Mr. Spier said you better apologize or he will not let you come near Mary Anne again," said Alex.

"No, he can't," said Toby.

"Watch him. If he hears you say that, he will do that, so don't push it," said Alex.

Later, when 8:00 pm, Dad said, "Where's Toby? Did he apologize to you yet?"

"No," I said.

"I warned him," said Alex. "Oh, yeah.."

He was about to say something when Toby finally came around and apologized to me.

"Don't you ever put me in that tough spot again," I said.

"I suppose you're right that I did," said Toby.

"What took you so long to apologize?" I asked.

"I haven't seen you," said Toby.

"That's a poor excuse. You're lucky you came in time because my father came close to ban you from seeing me," I said.

"I promise it won't happen," said Toby.

On the way to the house, Kayla said, "What took him long to apologize?"

"I asked him that and he claimed he haven't seen me," I said.

"That's a dumb excuse," said Stacey.

"I was waiting all that time to do that," I said.

"He thinks your father wouldn't ban him," said Kayla.

"He said that?" I asked.

"Yes. Alex was the one who warned Toby not to push it because if your father heard that, he will do that," said Stacey.

"In fact, I was just getting ready to tell him that when Toby showed up to apologize," said Alex.

Later, we got ready for bed and went to bed by 10:00 pm.
