Arcturus Black was worried, as about as understated as he would willingly say.

That was the primary emotion in his body as he apparated into the property that used to belong to his friend Fleamont and now to Fleamont's grandson, and his own unofficial grandson, Harry Potter.

When Arcturus was told of the details about the will-reading of his late friend after the funeral, he just knew that trouble would come about on the third and public part of it, his friend's bluntness known to piss off people worse than Arcturus at the best of times. He was paranoid enough that he asked the elves to move all the belongings Harry and his sister ever had to his home, along with placing said sister there while he dealt with the last of custody transfer back at the main Potter Manor. He also tasked a couple of elves under the employment of the Black family to stay hidden as they went to the Potter Manner.

Seeing the disappointments that were his grandson and Fleamont's son waiting for them to try and force Harry was bad enough, but to see Dumbledore on the property of Potters acting like his word was law had Arcturus seeing red and itching for a spell fight. He would have preferred not having Harry hurt by James, but the portkey took him away just as Arcturus's backup arrived to settle the situation, having been alerted by one of the elves sent to them. He wanted to get to Harry sooner but he had to give his statements to the British and ICW Aurors to make sure that no one tried to get away from it, not to mention the premise being closed off as part of the security in the event the owner was injured. The most he could do was ask Tippy to check on the boy and stay with him until Arcturus could get away from this lot. It was a big test of his Occlumency and patience that he did not pull out his wand to hasten the proceedings, but it was somewhat tempered by the sight of James and Sirius behind bars along with Albus getting railroaded. He knew that there was a 50-chance of the British Ministry punishing them severely or letting them off with a slap, with the fool Cornelius probably using the chance to take them down a few pegs on advice by Lucius in his ear. The ICW however would surely enforce harsh punishments on account of Fleamont asking their legal team to help with the will-reading, and from what he gathered as he left the office, they were going to be in their jail cells for a while.

As he made his way to the front door of the modest house, Arcturus let his mind wander to the past.

Arcturus and Fleamont had been through a lot in their years, and while they did not start out as friends in the beginning (their very first meeting had them in detention on the third day of their first year due to fighting with their fists, Fleamont's mother and his cousin Dorea was not amused), their shared experiences over the years and tribulations from the previous war had smoothed things over. It also helped that the two of them had experienced the adventure of the Other World during their fifth year that was found in the house through an actual gateway to another world, a world that was filled with wonders beyond their wildest imaginations and with actual ancient magic that was likely lost in their own world. It was that last part that made Arcturus realize that they could not afford for others to know of this, a sentiment shared by Fleamont who immediately proposed an exchanging of oaths to ensure that no one else knew of this unless they considered the next person ideal to share it with.

An oath that was clearly needed as they went through the sludge that was known as politics during the later years of Hogwarts and work life, and then the crap that was the blood war with that fake lord Voldemort and the fake pacifist Dumbledore. The two were doing their absolute best to split the country into their own personal pie slices, and with them the different family magics that could be controlled if not destroyed. It was thanks to the gateway that Fleamont and Euphemia escaped the original attack by the Death Eaters, the gateway's ability to protect the owner a boon for them. They would come out a few times from the safe room to check on James and the others before returning to the placement, the excuse given to James that they wanted to ensure no one could use them as bargaining chips.

Privately though, Fleamont had talked with Arcturus on the possibility of Dumbledore leaking the location to Voldemort. The man had quite a number of loud arguments with the old wizard who could not keep his nose out of family matters, and he also had issues with James wanting to use the lordship to help Dumbledore pass laws in the Wizengamot that on the surface sounded nice, but was detrimental to many if not removed after the war. It was also something of an open secret that Dumbledore had a spy among the Death Eaters whom he would do whatever he could to protect at the cost of losing innocents from not acting on available information. Some actions included passing information to the Death Eaters about possible points to attack, or even people to sacrifice.

It was perhaps most telling that after the attack on the manor, Fleamont had kept an eye on Dumbledore and the order members when he returned to announce their survival and see their reactions. Most were like James who were happy that he and Euphemia were safe, but as Fleamont pointed out in a Pensieve recording, Dumbledore did not look happy that he survived the attack right around the time Dumbledore was wanting to persuade James to take up the lordship.

Arcturus had to agree, it was suspicious with the timing of their arguments and the attack.

On his part, Arcturus knew that there was no way for Voldemort to get all the members of the Black Family to follow him, so on that side he was safe, but he had better hopes on Sirius Black for being someone who could stand up against the tribulations that were going on. Hopes that fell short with the man following Dumbledore like the faithful mongrel he had become, and while he might have some hope with Andromeda despite marrying that muggleborn, he was not sure about the daughter who was already showing signs that she was getting swept up by the hype of Dumbledore being all-seeing and knowing.

It was rather telling when the one person that had exceeded his expectations in a good way was a dying werewolf who made it clear that he had become disillusioned with his friends and the man who had granted him a chance to have an education.

And that was why he adored Harry Potter. The boy was attentive and truly willing to learn, as long as Arcturus restrained himself to not be too blatant with his personal bigotry (if only to avoid getting hexed by Euphemia), and the boy clearly wanted to do what he can to protect Camillia. With Fleamont and Euphemia's blessings, Arcturus went to conduct a blood adoption ritual with his bank manager as one of the witnesses, and then instated him as his primary heir instead of Sirius, although the latter would not know of this until he saw fit to let him know if he did not change his behavior patterns. Knowing that Fleamont had designated him as the primary caretaker for Harry and Camillia was a surprise, but it did make things simpler and easier to protect them.

And right now, he was close to failing that duty. Not on his watch!

Purposefully, Arcturus walked straight to the door and paused to let the wards test him as intended before the doors unlocked for him to come inside. Arcturus took the moment to take a deep breath to contain himself and check his surroundings before moving inside. He moved swiftly but firmly as he walked through the entrance hallway, his mind torn between memories of the old days and his desire to see his pseudo grandson, when he was interrupted by a pop.

"Lord Black." Tippy bowed deeply. "Young Master Harry is safe and waiting for you in the dining room." Arcturus let out a subdued but relieved sigh at that piece of news. He needed something good for the morning. "But Tippy has a question?"

"What is it?" Arcturus noted the house elf scratching the back of his head.

"Master Harry has a new pet that Tippy is not sure of?" The older wizard raised an eyebrow but motioned for the elf to bring him to his grandson to check on him personally. Tippy led him to the dining room where Harry was sitting by the dining table eating his bread and eggs while talking to something that gave Arcturus pause.

Looks like the cat was out of the bag for this.

"Hi Grandpa!"

You have a decent night's sleep despite all that has happened.

HP Levels: 50/50

MP Levels: 40/50 (-10 Points for overnight healing, limited success)

Status: Broken arm in need of attention.

Harry blinked at the message that popped up in front of him the moment he opened his eyes, before he closed them and let out a sigh. A part of him was wondering if he had dreamed it all out of some delirium from the attack by James, even though he had the letter from Fleamont in his hand. Knowing that he somehow got some weird ability that acted like a video game was really weird, but he supposed he could figure it out on the way. Harry gingerly sat up while cradling his broken arm and used the other arm to push himself upright, only just realizing that he was actually on a bed with a blanket on. The room he was in appeared different from the place he had fallen asleep in, so Harry reasoned that he was in the actual house this time.

A pop on his right gave him the answer.

"Young Master is awake!" Tippy lightly jumped before making his way to him. "Tippy has been worried for young master Harry!"

"Hello, Tippy." Harry greeted the house elf while raising an arm to let him hug his body. "Thank you for taking care of me."

"Tippy will always be by Young Master's side, unlike that ungrateful James Potter! Tippy will use Euphemia's frying pan on him!" Tippy looked ready to use the frying pan to go after James and wreck him over the head.

"How is Camillia?" Harry decided not to dwell on that man and focused more on his sister.

"Young Miss is safe, but she is asking for you." Tippy's ears dropped like that of a puppy denied a treat. "Moppy is keeping her distracted, but that may not last long."

"I better not keep her waiting then." Harry had a bit of time to move himself only to pause when his hand pressed down on something squishy. He turned to find a blue and semi-opaque item under his hand, the material acting like soft rubber as it stretched between the finger joints. He looked closer and then to his shock, saw something blinking back at him.

"WWWWAAAHHH!"

He knocked his head against the wall in his attempt to move away from whatever it was while Tippy leaped in surprise from the suddenness. The blue thing had moved from Harry's action and bounced a few times before landing under the chair. Harry groaned as he rubbed his head, wondering why he kept hitting his head, before looking to the odd blob that wiggled and bounced back slowly towards him, noting that it had what might pass for a pair of white eyes with no pupils and a mouth, making it look like a real life emoji if he were honest.

Well, let's see if the rest of what he experienced the previous day was real.

"Appraisal, please."

Species: Slime (Junior)

Age: 1 day

Durability: Weak

Level: 1

Description: A semi-unstable blob of mana that has gained sentience and a life of its own, Slimes are often considered weak creatures that can't be used in fights with their fragility and lack of skill-sets. But they wield great potential that could be brought out if done correctly and nurtured properly. There are different species of slimes that could be found in the [Other World], so it would be a good adventure to find them all!

The one you are looking at is the basic species with an affinity for water. A lesser known subversion would be a baby slime with beady black eyes and no mouth, often considered the cutest for any females that looked at it.

Do you wish to Tame the Monster: Slime? [Yes / No]

"An actual slime?" Harry blinked at the slime in question, and the slime blinked back a few times at him before giving off an open-mouth smile, further enforcing the image of an emoji. "Hello there." Harry lightly petted the creature to which the slime closed its eyes and gave out a rumble that made the body shiver slightly like jello.

"Young Master, what is that?" Tippy leaned forward to look at the slime who also looked back at him, somehow tilting to the side to show its curiosity towards the house elf.

"Apparently, a Slime." Harry slowly moved to pick the creature up, noting that it was very light to carry. "Never thought I would see one in person."

"Very bouncy." Tippy lightly poked at the slime in curiosity. The slime in turn tilted about in Harry's hand, alternating its eyes at him and the house-elf. It wriggled and bounced off his hand to land on the floor, then moving to the nearest bookshelf to which it bounced harder to get to a book and pushed it out.

"You want us to read that?" Harry got out of the bed and slowly made his way to the book that had opened up from the fall, bending down to take it off the floor and closing it briefly to look at the cover. "Grimoire of Taming?" Harry blinked before he registered the first word. "Wait, an actual magical grimoire? Isn't this someone else's book? Should we be reading this?" A bell chime was his answer before a window opened in front of his eyes.

Skill Acquired: Monster Taming (Medium)

Skill leveled up!

Current Level: 5 (Additional levels held back on account of Host's current status)

Description: The ability to tame any monster or creature about you within reason. It is highly useful in ensuring your continuous growth and survival in a world that is teeming with dangers, so you would need to consider having a familiar by your side. It is highly advisable that you raise your status high enough to ensure you can tame a tougher monster

In regards to your question, all contents of the [Room], and the house bequeathed to you, are strictly for the owner of [Gateway to Another World], no one else. In other words the Host, Harry James Potter, is the sole owner of said Grimoire and others in the house and [Room]. No one else can remove them without your express permission and has to be people with no ill intent towards you.

"Well, that is something." Harry let out a sigh of relief that he was not going to get killed for reading another person's grimoire without permission.

"Young master?" Harry turned to face Tippy who was looking at him strangely. "Is the Young Master experiencing any issues with his health? You have been talking to yourself for a while."

"Wait, can you not see this?" Harry pointed at the screen with the book.

"Tippy can see the book?" Tippy tilted his head. Harry was a little confused before trying a different question.

"Can you feel any magic on me right now?" Tippy perked his ears up before tilting the head in the opposite direction.

"Tippy has been feeling new magic on Young Master since last night, but it does not feel dangerous to him. Tippy thinks this is what Young Master is experiencing. Is it bad?" Harry looked to the screen with that query on his mind, and it answered back.

Host is the only one to see this. Any other owners would see their equivalent version, while those outside of the system will be unable to see it. House Elves can detect, but cannot identify magic unless the Host grants party access.

Well that explained so much. And it was really sounding like a video game if he had the option to form a party group.

"It is fine, Tippy. Apparently the magic has some manner of keeping privacy, that is why you can't see the thing that is in front of me right now. It is safe for now." Harry assured the house-elf who nodded at his words.

"Tippy understands. Does the Young Master wish to have breakfast?" A loud growl from his stomach was the answer. "Tippy shall prepare a big breakfast in the dining room!" Tippy raised a hand to snap his fingers but paused to look at the slime. "Tippy shall make extra for Mister Slime." Said slime bounced at that proclamation as Tippy snapped his fingers to go to the kitchens, wherever that was in the house. Harry went to place the book back on the shelf before looking at the slime.

"Want to come along?" The slime bounced harder at that and leaped to land his shoulder lightly, cuddling to the side of the face like a cat. Harry chuckled as he moved out of the room and looked to find the staircase to lead him down and followed the scents of food coming from the dining room that was lightly furnished but tastefully done well, and some of the quicker food items were already ready for his consumption. It was as he sat down on the chair and the slime popped down on the table to look at the food in wonder that the notification window appeared again.

Repeating Question: Do you wish to Tame the Monster: Slime? [Yes / No]

Harry hummed before looking at the slime bouncing in front of him. "Yeah, right not?" The slime was now bouncing harder in response to his agreement as it glowed briefly and the screen changed the text.

Congratulations, you have tamed your first familiar! Go forth and tame them all!

"Harry! Nice to meet you!"

Wait, the slime can talk?!

~ooOOoo~

(Present time)

"And that is about it." Harry ended the tale while Arcturus massaged his forehead with a hand and the slime was bouncing about them as it looked around the room.

"Well, not quite the introduction I was expecting for you to have, but at least you are safe." Arcturus looked up from his hand to speak to Harry directly. "Someone will come to check on you and confirm your injury came from James Potter. That should help our case a little when we press charges."

"Is Camilia safe?" Harry asked anxiously.

"She is, but you would need to grant her access to this place before she can come over." That barely left his mouth when Tippy appeared with the book and quill for Harry to make the changes. Harry did not waste time to write the name in and told Tippy to bring her over. It took a few moments before Tippy appeared with another house-elf and a little girl who immediately struggled in her restraints to get to her brother. Harry quickly got up to make his way to her right as she was fussing, and used his one good arm to hug her, the girl quickly hugging back with a smile.

"A'rry!" The boy could not help the smile at the girl calling his name even if it was a little mangled with her pronunciation. His name was effectively the first word she spoke, not really surprising since he was the one taking care of her along with the house elves shortly after her birth. Fleamont and Euphemia were her next attempts at calling names, with Euphemia practically giddy with emotion while Fleamont was practically bragging at Arcturus. Said Black Lord soon got the satisfaction of being called Grandpa Arty, and the old man would deny with his heart clutched in his hand that he was blushing at the girl's attempt to call out his name. Fleamont and Euphemia would tease him heavily on that, with grandfather getting hexed because of that.

It was also telling that Camillia did not know what to call James and Lily, while Damien had the "Bad Boy!" moniker to Harry's private delight.

His thoughts were interrupted when Camillia shifted to look at the Slime that had bounced its way to them and looked up at her with blinking eyes. Harry did not need to know that she was interested in the creature and let her down to stumble her way to the slime. The girl paused in front of the slime for a while before giving out a big smile and reached out to grab the slime and hugged it tightly. The slime in turn gave out a pleased rumble and leaned into her with closed eyes and a big smile.

"Harry, I like this girl!" Harry had to give out a smirk at that reply.

"Now that she is here, we can start with your testimony and treatment. After that, we must consider our next move." Arcturus spoke while gesturing at the slime. "And after that, we will need to discuss your ownership of the [Room]."

"How do you know about it?" Harry asked curiously.

"Your grandfather and I stumbled upon it in our youths, and we decided to keep this quiet because there were too many people who wanted to lay their hands on an untapped world of potential." Arcturus took a sip of the coffee provided by Tippy. "A certain meddler we both know of is still the biggest danger." Harry nodded, the note from Fleamont burning a hole in his pocket.

"We will also need to address your education shortly after, but that might have been handled by your late grandmother." Harry blinked at that statement.

"How so?" Arcturus let out a very scary smirk that promised to be an omen of doom for any that earned his ire.

"Let's just say that James Potter is going to regret not listening to his mother on her deathbed, and I hope to be around long enough to savor it."

Yup, Harry was so glad that he was not on Arcturus's hitlist.
